Can I get GPS navigiiation without any data on S3? Like how a GPS works! Can I download maps for North America on the SD card and use it as GPS when I am travelling out of my area? Thanks
If you purchase a third party GPS app. I know Google maps allows downloading of small areas

If you're planning travel the same areas over and over you can always save the maps on Google maps. You can even save multiple maps like the entire route for a trip. It won't be able to tell you traffic though, that requires data. Easiest is to get a 3rd party navigation app that has preloaded maps.

Hey all. So I live in Milford CT, yet no matter what I do, the location features of this phone continue to put me in Mastic, NY. When I use my GPS on Maps, everything is fine. But all of the apps and websites (Google, Facebook, Beautiful Widgets, etc...) keep determining my location incorrectly. I searched on Google and out here, but not having any luck. Any thoughts? Anyone else found a fix for this, outside of manually setting location?

I've searched a lot but just come up with people complaing about not connecting to network.. thanks in advance

Network is not required to use GPS. It is just one of your app using GPS to determine ur position such as weather app, map etc

Just curious, who here installed the app from the PlayStore?
Do we get the copy on original release date or do we get early tracks?

This app is another representation on how the man will control you. This app does nothing but harvest your data, sell it to the appropriate entities and not allow you to play how you want. The music industry is trying to pull a quick one on you. Extract the APK if you dont believe me. I personally will stick to other ways to get my music free
We did just get a whole album for free.......right?

I see you saying this, but what data does it harvest. What are you seeing in the decompile app that proves this? I don't even have the app in just curious why your making these claims and very broad claims too.

It doesnt even take that level of investigation. It's just common sense
THIS APPLICATION HAS ACCESS TO THE FOLLOWING:
YOUR LOCATION
APPROXIMATE LOCATION (NETWORK-BASED)
Allows the app to get your approximate location. This location is derived by location services using network location sources such as cell towers and Wi-Fi. These location services must be turned on and available to your device for the app to use them. Apps may use this to determine approximately where you are.
PRECISE LOCATION (GPS AND NETWORK-BASED)
Allows the app to get your precise location using the Global Positioning System (GPS) or network location sources such as cell towers and Wi-Fi. These location services must be turned on and available to your device for the app to use them. Apps may use this to determine where you are, and may consume additional battery power.
NETWORK COMMUNICATION
FULL NETWORK ACCESS
Allows the app to create network sockets and use custom network protocols. The browser and other applications provide means to send data to the internet, so this permission is not required to send data to the internet.
PHONE CALLS
READ PHONE STATUS AND IDENTITY
Allows the app to access the phone features of the device. This permission allows the app to determine the phone number and device IDs, whether a call is active, and the remote number connected by a call.
STORAGE
MODIFY OR DELETE THE CONTENTS OF YOUR USB STORAGE
Allows the app to write to the USB storage.
YOUR APPLICATIONS INFORMATION
RETRIEVE RUNNING APPS
Allows the app to retrieve information about currently and recently running tasks. This may allow the app to discover information about which applications are used on the device.

I didn't get 4.2.2 but I did get the "side bar" thing. It seemed kinda cool at 1st, but it's gotten rather annoying. I get the dual Window option but don't see the practicality for my use. I'd love input if anyone has any.

But what it *still* doesn't have (or, at least, I haven't found it yet) is the ability to go into Navigation, hit the "map" button, and watch the arrow follow your route, without needing to punch in a destination (a "follow" mode, for lack of a better term). I actually used that on occasion, and its disappearance in Maps 7 is very disappointing.

Standalone navigation apps usually include a tracking mode where you can monitor a live trace of your gps' (walked, driven or bicycled) path along the map and annotate, save and share that trace.
I'm not sure how much was included in GNav, but it has been reduced to a GMaps subset and the controls need to be relearned. Map tracing via gps seems gone for now.

No matter if I completely remove maps and start over... It says network connection not found... I could be on wifi or 4g and it still says network connection no found.
Any idea what I need? :banghead:

Uninstall Google Maps update under settings, app manager, google maps, clear app data and reinstall the update via Play Store.
OPEN Google maps and accept the terms DON'T open the navigation app until you have done this final step.
Hoping this helps
