[Q] Where's this Phone At? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Ok so I just got this D710 Epic 4G touch. With some of the info I have read I'm guessing that it's kinda easy to brick these if you use the wrong method to flash a rom if it's before the source release & I'm not sure about where this phone is at. It has the Leaked(FF02) ICS Rom & Stock Recovery on it. I am not sure when this was released.
What I want to do is put phone on a good stable stock rom that everything works to get a good base & nandroid backup. Then I want to go to a good stable ICS or JB rom for my daily driver. Can I just Odin a OTA Stock Debloated Rooted Rom back it up then go from there?
Right now this phone's radio will turn off for a few seconds at times. This morning my phone rang so I answered it that's when the phone's radio turned off so that made me hang up on a Customer when I answered the Phone=NOT GOOD
I want/need something that fully works. Like the GPS works & the radio don't turn off n all that jazz.

A daily driver stock JB ROM will be leaked at some point today. Rooted versions also in the works. Keep an eye out for FK23 threads.

Also the radio problem looks like the eg30 radio. There was massive loss of signal on that one. Try something more updated. Like fi27 modem.

Thanks
:good: Alright thank you guys.
So I can flash what ever rom I want using the one click odin method? Like this Stock rooted rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721229

I personally would look for fI27 but yes. And one click is always recommend if your not 100 percent sure of what your doing.

[Q] Flashing of any JB ROM fails

Hey wonderful people of XDA,
I picked up an S3 yesterday and rooted it no problem. I can install ICS roms fine, but CWM errors out when trying to flash a JB rom (I have included a pic to show exactly what I mean)
It is a Telus S3, but from what I've experienced before with rooting, AT&T should work as well. However, correct me if I am wrong.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Read that. It talks about error 7, although they said they fixed it. The first time I tried to flash AOKP that happened and I just rewiped everything and tried again and it worked.
Thank you! I'll check it out
I had same problem I just updates to 5.8.4.7 and it worked fine, make sure to fully wipe

[Q] What Next after rooting

Just want to say this my first time rooting a device etc, this is pretty new to me. So I followed the steps in this thread to root my totally stock Sprint LGOG ZV9. I rooted with no problem. No I just want to know do I need to backup my current config, what software would I use. Also was the boot loader unlocked. I Just want to make sure that I do exactly what is supposed to be done correctly. Are there custom roms for lgog currently.
Just an image showing phone was rooted

I am assuming this software was installed when I rooted the phone
Phone firmware info
Oh just figured Id show some great 4g speeds I get from Sprint at my house !! These speeds are very consistent at my house and you can see there isnt anu WIFI on just my Sprint Data. I am moving in the next month or so though. Its crazy where internet speed has come in the last 10 years.
4.1.2 Jelly Bean has been released for this phone now, I'd start by getting that. check out the LGOG development forums to flash a stock version of it or I think Lifeless ROM also has Jelly Bean incorporated now.

After rooting you can choose to unlock your bootloader to flash better code or custom roms to your device, or download and run apps that would require root like root explorer or setcpu to change how your device works.
Unlocking is a whole different ballgame. It allows to flash custom kernels and roms. Like spatel said, 4.1.2 is out and if you unlock and flash TWRP or CWM, you can make a backup of your current phone system, data, efs, cache and then flash 4.1.2 to your phone to see if you like it or not. You can flash the new ZVB radio and possibly improve your signal. It all depends on what your comfortable with. Also, it depends on your interests and whether you're into theming or developing and rooting is just one of those precursors.
Currently there are a few roms based on stock but some AOSP roms will follow now that some source is available to developers. From what I understand, the efs contains important device info and is currently breaking with AOSP roms attempts but I'm sure the devs are making progress on it. If anything check the threads and stickies for a lot more info. There's a wealth of info out there and Google is your friend lol

I plan to do this tomorrow, help please?

Hey guys, i would like to know how to pick the right kernel for a specific Rom.
My goal is to Root and flash my Galaxy nexus (4.3 Stock) Running on the Videotron.com Carrier (I would suppose its GSM, i have a simcard) with paranoid android, and franco kernel.
My questions are as follows,
1- Are Franco kernel and paranoid android compatible?
2- Will it really help me on Ram and Battery life.
3- Can someone please explain to me how to pick the right firmware, the right kernel, and google apps version.
This is my 3rd android phone, and i always needed help with this, but i would like to learn it myself. (i am not a pc noob, i just never played with phones)
This is my phone right now

By the way, i am willing to donate when it gets done.
1. You have to use the correct version of any kernel that matches your OS version. So if you are on 4.3 use any 4.3 kernel.
2. Custom kernels usually help with battery life but you will have to try many different kernels to see which is best for you.
3. Like I said in answer no. 1 everything should match the OS you are on. If you are on 4.3 then you will need to use a kernel that is for 4.3 and gapps that are for 4.3, if you on 4.2.2 then use 4.2.2 kernel/gapps.
PS- I am not sure what you mean by "donating when it gets done" but feel free to donate to our great devs

Hi,
I have a GNex from videotron. Rooted it 20 minutes after getting it from videotron store
Yes, it's a gsm. The model is maguro.
I was on paranoidandroid 3 weeks ago and it really cool.
You need to download their rom from the dev section. There is a link to download gapps in the same thread.
If you want to keep it simple, no need to flash any kernel. Stock PA kernel is fine.
Happy flashing

i have a mobile odin guide...but it might be a little to much info for you out the gate....more or less on this device. if you want a recovery you have to flash a kernel...as ryan said...our kernels and recoveries are tied together. so you need to go to rwilco12's repo and find a kernel with a custom recovery (cwm ) that is compatible with the rom you are currently running.
if the device is on jb 4.1.2 you need to grab a gb27 kernel that has cwm in it....but if the device is on ics....you really need to odin the gb27 rooted one click that wipes data...this is needed because jb has a preload partition that we need to make room for.
there is a qbking77 video showing how to do this....but even easier than that...there is a link in rwilco12 repo for this exact one click...and it has instructions as well as a link to a video... i think.lol
if you are on jb 4.1.2 hit me back and ill walk ya through a mobile odin flash for the kernel....easy as pie...

[Q] Wanted to install Jellyverse or ProjectX 3.9 (from stock odexed)

Hey guys,
I've been reading the last 2 weeks how to re-rom my stock gb27 e4gt and have successfully rooted and installed a new kernel/recovery, it's garwynn's SXTP_Agat_GB27-v0.5.0
I made 2 backups and verified that the preload partition was in both nandroids.
A lot of the instructions to the roms were given a while back (12/2012) so I've been bouncing back and forth between threads.
I'm super confused if I can or can't flash the Project X 3.9 zip from my current recovery by wiping everything first from this recovery and then flashing the projectX 3.9 zip. Everything is working fine right now, I'm activated, profile and prl updated, so just being careful.
Are there still issues with flashing/wiping from agat's (v1.4.2F) or garwynn's (v0.5.0) kernel/recovery so I would still have to use the el26 or el29DB kernel/recoveries and then flash JB X2 Format before installing the rom?? Or can I wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik, then flash the rom through v.0.5.0, my current kernel/recovery (agat recovery tREC_v0.3.4)?
I've rooted and rom/rerommed 5 or 6 devices since the OG droid came out but the e4gt has been the most confusing trip of all. Maybe I'm just getting old lol.
Thanks in advance....
Some people have issues, some don't. If you're not having any, you should be good.

Thanks @bilgerryan, and for all that you and the other devs do in supporting these older (but new to me) e4gts. I'm on my 2nd one in 3 weeks. I did a format twice of my internal storage yesterday and my excessive battery drain problems are fixed. Amazing what that did.. 86% down to 68% in 17h so far. (also had 11-6-13 TWEAK-PACK Comadose 3.5 on it THANKS to Goddly). Ready to install custom roms now lol.
