I've had wireless charging since August . . .
Have one in my car and one next to my bed. The phone locks to the wireless dock with magnets which keep it in place and at an incline rather than flat. It's nice. Cost me ~ $25 for all of it.
Oh...and mine doesn't require an ugly case like the Duracell or some sort of special back cover. Phone looks like any other S3.

Guide please. Lol or link to one. 25 bucks I can definitely spend

Ok. I'll try compiling something later tonight. It is basically based off of the Palm Pre charging that everyone on the I9300 forums has gone over except I change the magnets so it's secure and also shave the back cover so that it doesn't bulge.
This might sound stupid but whats the point to spend 100$ on a wireless charger ? Does it really bother you that much to have a cord laying around ? I find it not very conveniant at bed time... /unless its because you need some juice and there is no power source close to you i understand

One advantage is that the micro USB connectors are a weak point in the design of most cell phones. They often break or wear out. Given the extra contacts in ours, I like the idea of avoiding the wear and tear.
But it looks like this one doesn't follow the Qi standard which our phones support with the replacement back which was promoted so I'll pass.

If you look at duracell's page closer, 99.99 is for a S3 "kit" , which :
Includes:
(1) Powermat® for 2 Devices
(1) Wireless Case for Samsung Galaxy S III
(1) Power On The Go
(1) Universal Power Supply (100-240VAC)
(1) Owners Manual
You can also buy the case, powermat or portable battery seperately. The bulky wireless case is 34.99 , the 2 device powermat is 49.99 and power on the go is 49.99.
I'd prefer changing only the backplate instead of having a case around it, but I guess that if you only change the backplate and put a cover on top of it, it could very likely interfere with the wireless charging being to far from the charging mat.
Samsung's own wireless recharger should be available soon somewhere, and supposedly has coils 40 percent thinner than other charger out there, keeping the backplate as thin as possible. Although, I expect the price will be high. I am pretty fed up with all the asian designed cheap accessories ordered over the net for a fraction of the price.. so I wouldn't mind spending on something that i would use as often as a charger.
99.99$ could of been a deal, if the case wasn't so damn huge.
If they would have made a blue or black version I would buy this. Can't see putting a white case on my blue phone.. ugh
Still have to provide power to the wireless charger. Fail.
I'll keep it simple (and stylish looking... man that thing is an eyesore) and plug a cord in
I don't consider it wireless charging if we have to have a gigantic bulky ugly case to do so.
Here's a link to give you a better idea of a DIY wireless charger.

My solution
I guess }{Alienz}{ isn't going to reply. I'll tell you what I did for my wireless charging needs.
I purchased the Palm Touchstone wireless dock from Amazon for about $8 and a new SIII back cover, with a touchstone compatible module to charge the battery, from e-bay for $29 (the scumbag I bought my case from is now selling them for $99) Put that cover on my phone and it looks and works like normal (including NFC), but I can now charge the phone by just putting in on the Touchstone.
Works for me and $35 is hell of a lot better than $80-$100

That's real nice and really simple to implement unlike the hacks I've seen from a few month ago. But the hacks are cheaper, lol. It may even work with the flygrip I have attached to the back of my phone. It's just at 5mm.

I'm on the fence about this one. I want a charger I can have at work where I can just set my phone down without having to plug it all the time, but I definitely don't want any added bulk either, and it looks from that pic like there's going to be at least a bit of added mass on there.
Well it seems very convenient, but with the current size of it I rather use my extended battery.
It also charges much slower using induction.
It sounds cool but if you take a second to think about it you probably shouldn't. It's less practical than plugging it in. It has to lay on the charging pad so you can't really mess with it while it's working. Maybe you could rig up a stand so you could set it on and watch movies but really, it doesn't seem worth it. I often use my phone while it's plugged in at night and to do so I have to pick it up.
I will have one for home, car, and work. I had the palm pre with inductive charger and it was awesome. Set it on the charger when at your desk and just grab it when you leave... No messing with a cable. Very neat too with no wires laying around.
I would buy one but they are a little pricey (imo) and my case (which I really like) will not fit it.

Do you happen to know how much mA this unit outputs for charging?
I've been looking at these two products for my sprint galaxy s3 and I have some specific questions. I did lots of searching and I hope what I know so far is right if not please correct me. Both of these are the qi standard. I also believe the Powermat I already own is qi standard.
The verizon back cover will work for charging but the nfc will not work with it.
The Powermat is a case that fits completely over the phone. Does mhl and nfc still work with this case?
What mah do these charge at?
Anyone who owns these would you please test this out for me. I am trying to decide what to buy.

I have used this case and the NFC does not work with the case. The MHL adapter will not work with the case. The case charges at 1amp I think.
Hope thus helps.

powermat and qi products are not currently interoperable with each other especially the older ones. if you have a powermat charger, you need to get a powermat receiver (they sell the backing on amazon and from their official store).

Thanks for the info. I called Powermat and the Rep (who sounded clueless) said nfc and mhl will not work with the case. He also said Powermat is not qi compatible. However, I read a review on Amazon that said nfc tags work with it. So i went on ahead and ordered it. Since i really liked this on my evo. I just wish i could of got it in blue. I will be testing the nfc, mhl, and otg when I get it Thursday. If anyone else has questions about anything else let me know and I will test it and or give pics.

What are you wanting to do, wireless charge via qi. I use energizer 3 position charger $24.00 ebay with Verizon back. The Verizon back is both nfc and wireless charger. Only Verizon phones have extra contacts for nfc to work through the door. The batteries must be nfc compatible also. There are posts of people moding a cheap door $5.00 with a palm charger less $15.00 and using it to wireless charge. But the qi is supposed to be getting an update that will charge at a larger distance thus thicker cases should be able to be charged through. I love the qi. Good luck
Powermat not compatible
See the Galaxy sIII shine via SynergyRom
even the qi receivers you get off ebay that fit underneath the battery door work w/ NFC. It's up to you though. Check the 2nd post in the qi wireless charging thread stickied in this forum. I have a video showing the qi receiver I have and also that it works w/ NFC
I think you are making a better choice for wireless charging but I already own a Powermat so I would like to keep using it. It might not be the best but It always works and works well. I already sucked it up and ordered my Powermat case i will get it tomorrow and tell you guys how it goes.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
if it charges, it charges. I guess that's all there is to say to it.
The powermat case you get should work just fine w/ the transmitter that you have. You're a-ok imo
Well here is my review. I have been using the powermat case for awhile now and over all im disappointed. Otg and mhl does not work. It doesnt even want to connect to the computer through a USB cable. When I did get it to connect it didnt want to transfer anything. As far as nfc it sometimes works. The case is pushing up my screen protector on the bottom of my phone and I have a zagg screen protector which is a really nice one. It cost me fifty dollars when I got my phone. I case is hard to put on and off which wouldnt be such a big dill except I end up taking it off all the time to connect things to my phone.
About the only good things about it is... it is a hole case so thats nice if you drop it but the case its self is not very durable. I already have many scratches all over it. it does charge my phone well and seems to charge just as fast as my usb charger that came with my phone.
I think there's some other things im forgetting but I think you get my point. I will keep this since I already have it and my mat from my evo but I dont think I will be buying any more powermat products.
Ps I dont really mind the white case on my blue phone but some might. They dont make any other color yet.

sure thing.... I've been meaning to take some pictures of it anyway... it's amazing what you can do with a little bit of foam double sided sticky tape. Keep in mind this is for an N7 tablet so it has a bit bigger footprint than a phone car mount.

I know. More concerned about how exactly these things are usually configured prior to being slapped in a nice square plastic case to be plopped on a desk/dresser/etc... to see if doing what i'm thinking about is even possible. If they come small enough, i might be able to get it to work. If not, i might still be able to rig something up somehow.
Yes, though I didn't use it, this one seems really cheap. But for me, a reasonable priced product means quality to me. I would highly recommend this one, "RAVPower Qi-Enabled Wireless Charger". It's really light and a great gadget to charge my lumia 920 in a wireless way. They're also compatible with many models. That's kind of what I thought until I read an article online the other day that talked about how most Qi chargers are made in China for less than $2. After reading that I told my self I am not paying over $20 for a Qi charger and found one for $10 shipped on Amazon. Its been awesome and I can't find any flaws with it.

Very pricey, I want it. I'll have to see catch it at a deal.
The Tylt definitely is a looker, but I can't justify spending that much on a charger.
I just want something around $15 - $25 that outputs higher than 1A... I want to at least attempt to come close to the max Qi for the Nexus 5.
The cheap $15 one I have right now is 1A max output (so less of course) and I'd say it charges a little over half as fast as the stock charger.
I don't want to spend higher than that for essentially a glorified usb cable.
Missed out on the tylt deal (also already have the nexus) so I couldnt get one. So trying the diy route
Yeah I'm with you guys, they definitely charge a premium for it. I missed out on the sale too but bought it anyway and I'm glad I did. It's really one of the most convenient accessories if not THE most convenient accessory I've ever bought for a phone/tablet and it's that convenience you pay for. I wish it was cheaper, but still think it's worth the asking price.

Ahhh the heat thing. Yeah, that *can* degrade the performance of a battery over an extended period of time, but I don't see that being a major concern. Your phone gets warmer during gaming sessions or just browsing the web than it does when on a wireless charger so the argument can be made that it's worse for the battery to actually use the phone than to charge it wirelessly. That said, at least in my experience, my TYLT charger doesn't make my N5 or N7 warm at all. And my N5 is on it all the time. Bottom line- use your phone the way you want to, you're going to be upgrading long before your battery dies anyway.
Slightly OT, but does it matter if you plug in your Qi charger into a USB 2.0 port on a computer, or do you need to use a USB 3.0?
I know that the mAh of USB 2.0 is something like only 500mAh, but I believe it still supplies the same 5V as USB 3.0 would. Would a Qi charger go by the 5V input, or would is use the 500mAh max draw rendering the charge time absolutely horrendous?
I don't really know how it works too well. I have my Qi charger plugged into a USB port on my power bar for my night stand. But I'd like to have 2 more, 1 for my desk (hooked to my desktop computer) and another for my notebook.

Thanks for the info guys! I just bought a universal mount, but I'm pretty tempted by this if it will charge while using GPS and streaming, which seems likely.
Project has raised about $20k in the last day and a half. It looks like exactly what were looking for

That's what I would like to know because if I leave my phone sitting in my GPS even plugged in it loses power over time. Not a big deal on short trips but I can't get from Florida to St. Louis without taking it off and turning the screen off to give it a break.

Don't use the USB port in your car if you currently are. It doesn't provide enough current. Get a car lighter/accessory port adapter with a higher output.
Something like this (doesn't have to be this one, just an example), then plug into the 2A port.

You should be able to at least keep the same battery charge, or possibly even slowly increase while using GPS.

i'll pay an extra $5 for that.

yeah, i already payed up yesterday.. can't wait to get this.. I specifically asked him about using the n5 version with the Spigen Slim Armor case and he said that he's tested it with cases and it's held fine. no guarantees, but providing it's not a thick-ass case, he said it should work fine... stoked...

also, those suction mounts are about $15 on amazon. of you can do better then have at it, but it looks pretty great especially for and indie project
Looks awesome. Just ordered one. Hope it gets funded!

This looks great, but I wonder if the phone will actually charge wirelessly WHILE using GPS/Navigation? I think those features draw more power than the wireless charger will provide. Does anyone know for sure? I have the Nexus 5 if it makes a difference.

So I'm the guy that developed this, and when I drive to work, it's about a 25 minute drive. I tested the charger the other day and ran navigation, bluetooth streaming audio, and kept the screen on the whole time. I raised 2% in the 25 minutes. The charger does a pretty good job.

It also includes the 2amp cigarette lighter to USB adapter. Check out how much those little puppies cost.
Before this thread I read about it looks very cool I filled out the firm twice once while there where still testers available for 39$ and the other for 45$ both times I baked at the very end literally at checkout as much as I love the idea I think this will be very common in 2014 and I believe you will find many variations and price point there for I decided to wait but I think it's a great idea.......also since in rarely in s car longer then 30 minutes it doesn't make sense for me......
My issue is how long does the holder retain its stickiness before it needs to be cleaned? Also, how much force can it withstand before the device falls? Does this amount of force decrease over time?
I'm guessing it uses the same stuff to hold your device that this uses.

It's a magnetic mount if I read it right. No 'sticky stuff' aka no low durometer high adhesion silicone.

He is right. I am putting magnets in them so the majority of the holding force is being taken up by the magnets. The sticky foam is only there for a little bit of shear strength. The foam does have a pretty good life though. It washes clean really easy with a damp cloth.
