Just curious. I got my SIII on the 29th and haven't bothered with a case yet. My previous phone was an archaic Motorola Razr V3m that I had for 5 years and in that time I only dropped it a couple times on the carpet, and once it hit my closet door track which did put a ding on it. I'm thinking of just forgoing a case.
Only have ghost armor in mine. No hard case.
Dropped quite a few times. Usually just the battery case pops off in the harder falls. One fall left an slight dent that I didn't even notice till later.
Have dropped on sides and front. No screen cracks yet. No scratches...only because of the skin that covers the full body.

Never bother with cases, bulky, ugly and unpractical. Had everything from a Nokia to iPhone 4s. Dropped all at least once when getting out of the car with my good luck none ever broke just a chip lol. However a screen protector is a must for resale value, most people don't care about the back.

I have a thin spigen case... Adds no bulk, and and keeps the camera glass off the table when I set it down. I never drop my phone so protection is not an issue, and just the screen (zagg), and the camera lens.

I've just recently noticed that they're 3 dark spots behind the glass myself. I only noticed it while I was flashing a ROM and it got stuck on just a black screen but was still illuminated. Wonder what that can be. I haven't dropped this phone that i can recall.
As far as cases go, I normally don't buy them but i do have a TPU case for this phone that i put on every now and then

This was a common issue with the t989(s2) right out of the box it's a defect call T-Mobile and get a free warranty replacement. Probably shouldn't mention the drop although pretty sure that has nothing to do with it as I'm on my second s3 and they have both had dark spots. It took me three tries to get a perfect s2

Yeah I plan on keeping mine for a while at least when my manufactures warranty is coming to an end I'll have a legit reason to get a brand new/refurb phone.
Yea those dark spots were bad on the t989 actually very bad. The gs3 is a long way from that but this is definitely the result of their amoled screen
I'm using a D30 case from T-Mobile but I have never dropped my phone, I rarely leave it out unless it's on the charger when I'm in bed. I don't get how people don't protect their devices in some way.
The glass of this phone seems to cracked too easily, so I bought a case for this phone. This is the first phone I ever feel that need a case. I had the galaxy s and the iphone 4 and both were never in a case.

I bought the GS3 at full price no contract or upgrade, I'm not trying to tell anyone how to take care of their things but if anyone is willing to just throw away 650$ because not having a case on their device is restricting then my hands are willing to catch it lol.

I found its easier to put the back on if you start with slotting the bottom parts in first. Try putting the back on again.

Mine currently does atm, but it didn't start off that way, it was fine when I first got it, but after a number of battery pulls and constantly taking the back off enough times it has changed to being like that. This happened on my S3 as well, but I simply bought a new back cover and problem went away. The new one on my S3 hasn't changed to being like that and I've pulled it off many times as well, might just be a minor manufacturing defect thing (I noticed the tiny clips on the backing that click into our phones are small and sometimes look a little warped from being mass produced), You can order replacement backings, as well as different custom colors off ebay, or just the official OEM ones from Samsung. My carrier's store sells replacement S3 backings so once they get replacement Note II backings in ill just get a new one to stop that from happening, they are cheap so no biggie.
I just ordered a metal back for $6.75 at ebay. Hopefully it will be good . The stock plastic back is way too thin, don't know why Sammy was so cheap on its flagship.

This concerns me, so I thought I would warn other Note II owners. Beware of temperature changes.
I went from in my truck, outside where it was near 10F out. (-11c) and into a building while using my Note II. Once in the building, as I was holding the phone and using it, the screen (glass) cracked from the middle left of Home button in an arc to where the power button is.
The phone is 3 days old and never been dropped.
Only the glass cracked. One line.
Reported today, but because it's Sunday, I have to call Rogers Managment Office to see if they will replace it.
I have never heard of this happening before.

Every phone, actually any device is useless with extreme temperatures.
Matters more is the duration of how long the device was exposed to certain degree of cold or heat.
Sent from my SGH-I317M using xda app-developers app
That's surprising! I wonder if you got a lemon...
I saw this video not too long ago and in it, the lady put her note 2 in the freezer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=KERzJo9L7vM#t=63s
A typical household freezer should be about -18 Celsius.
I've had my old Galaxy 1 out in similar temperatures at Whistler and it didn't do any damage and the new gorilla glass should be even tougher than its predecessor.
Regardless, they should give you a replacement since it sounds like it died in normal operating conditions.
Damnit physics. Once again you win.

32F really sounds too high for most winter states I think. I mean, even here in Utah 32F during winter is considered a warm day...at least for me since it gets much lower but luckily never had an issue with my phones.
I will be more careful from now on though.

I guess that's one good thing for moving out of Alaska, about the only one I can think of though... It's -26F there right now. I've never seen a screen crack from the cold before though. Was a computer tech for the Fairbanks school district. We had plenty of cracked video cables in the teacher's laptops when they left them in their cars overnight, but no cracked screens.
Quick temp changes are the enemy not necessarily the extremes themselves.

By the volume buttons the bezel creaks, and the power button is creaky and cheap.
It's driving me INSANE.

Yes, because now when I discovered the creaks, I keep checking to see if they went away...lol.
Same small problem here too. Just slap a case that covers the volume and power button. It helps with the creaks. Nothing is perfect. U might get one that buttons are fine but there will be something else that will get to u. If buttons work and are not about to fall off, enjoy the phone.

Mine scratches easily and has flaked off in some spots like near the head phone jack.
I didn't bother with skins I figured after the glue hardened it would pull the paint off anyways if I tried to remove it so I don't see the point.
Cases are enough for me as I can't see it anyways with one on.

On my previous phone (an Infuse), I had cracked chrome near the micro-USB jack. But my Note 2, after almost three months so far, with no case, has no scratches on either the glass or the chrome.
I belive it is in the design. Samsung intended it to be soft plastic in order to absorb shock. So any lil bump can nic the paint off.
I put my Skinomi on as soon as I got it. Sooo, hopefully not.
Yea mine has a few battle scars. I wish that samsung would up their build quality a bit. Coming from an HTC Inspire (Milled Aluminum Body) the cheap plasticy feel was quite a shock. But overall I love the phone and eventually got over all the plastic.
