When making a flashable .tar file for odin, if i wanted to make a factory restore file, what images should i use from the factory image? do i need to use everything, boot, bootloader, both radios, recovery, system and userdata? or can i leave some stuff out? Or am I completely wrong all together?

I just successfully rooted my device w/Odin, then decided I wanted to start fresh. I used CWR to wipe my partitions, including the System partition. I take it that was incredibly stupid? I guess I'm so used to having a full .zip ROM package to flash with my old phones that I didn't stop to think about what I was doing.
Now I'm permanently stuck at the T-Mobile splashscreen. The progress bar fills, but the phone boots no further. Is there any existing way to restore the system partition to stock? I still have access to CWR and can still flash with Odin. I do see that there are .img dumps of the system partition; can I do anything with these? Thank you!

Do you mean by flashing the ~10MB SGH-T989-Stock-UVKID tar file? If so, yes. The file successfully flashes in Odin, but it the phone still doesn't boot.
Is it at all possible that I need to reflash the system partition? I've downloaded a couple >300MB images of System, either as .img or .zip files. Can I do anything with these?

Did you happen to make a NANDROID BACKUP prior to your formatting frenzy?

Well, thank you for trying. To reiterate my problem:
I have ClockworkMod Recovery installed and working. While in it I did the following, thinking this would cause the phone to reboot in a "factory fresh", but rooted state:
-wipe data/factory reset
-format /system
-format /emmc
-format /sdcard
-Wipe Dalvik Cache
I then rebooted, and thus cannot boot the phone. The progress bar fills on the Samsung/T-Mobile splashscreen and then just hangs. Could someone confirm for me that I caused this by formatting /system? If so, is there any way to copy the OS back over to the system partition?
Shamwow, that would be amazing. I did a Nandroid backup, then proceeded to format the microsd card on which it was stored. Chalk it up to pure, unadulterated stupidity.
Anyone willing and able to post their Nandroid backup?
I accidentally deleted some system files from my phones. I want to ask that will restoring my ROM will bring me back those files or is there any other way so you can tell that as well.
The files I deleted were related to sound so now there is no sound on my mobile phone now. I also want to tell you that I am using stock android 4.2.1 rom.
Restoring is your best bet. If you have CWM you can also restore a nandroid, reflash, or factory reset.
If you have a backup to restore that should work. Factory resetting the device will not as it just formats /data & /cache leaving /system the same as it was before. If you dont have a backup you can fastboot flash the /system image from a Google factory image.

Did you factory reset before restoring the backup? Yes?
Then you need to start fresh = flash stock through fastboot.

I have been playing around with the nexus 7 installing apps and adding a different recovery.
I would now like to perform one final wipe of the device, reset it, and then make my pristine backup. I'm currently using Clockworkmod recovery. What is the best way to return the 7 back to stock?
Should I just reset/erase using Clockworkmod recovery? Also, will I need to delete my old Clockworkmod backup if I do not want it anymore?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

reset from recovery only resets the user data and depending on recovery, also the virtual sdcard.
It doesn't touch the /system files. You might have installed tweaks to the system. You might have installed root, changes to the slimport resolution, USB-OTG like stickmount may have made changes to debuggerd. None of these get reset with the reset from recovery.
The factory image blasts a factory image back onto the device, bootloader, recovery, kernel, rom, resets user data, etc.
So in your case if you really want to get back to stock before making a pristine backup, factory image is the better choice.

Thanks, the new image is exactly what I want to do. I'm still a little confused about the relationship between the recovery and the image though. If I flash the image again, will I lose my custom recovery and just return to the stock recovery? Is it just like a computer that the image is going to configure the tablet exactly back to the stock image or will I still have the Clockworkmod recovery? I know I can easily reflash the Clockworkmod recovery so not a big deal.

4) boot/kernel

6) wipes user data / virtual sdcard

So your custom recovery would be replaced with stock recovery.

Great, thanks. This is exactly what I'm going to do.
Some how I have screwed up my partitions. I was able to Odin to stock lollipop and I can get into download and recovery. However I cannot flash anything at all at this point. In TWRP when I try to flash a custom ROM, Kernel or even the lastest TWRP version, all that happens is recovery restarts. This all started when I tried to flash SlimLP ROM. It flashed fine but would only bootloop when I tried to start phone. So I wiped everything and reflashed lollipop AllianceROM. The phone started okay but I got some error message about the UID. I noticed right away that ALL my text messages which should have been wiped were intact. The phone was running really, really slow and I had continual issues installing apps from the Playstore and TiBu. I decided to try another ROM and again wiped everything, flashed and rebooted. Again text messages were intact. I believe it's my system and/or data partition that is messed up but I am not sure. I'm not knowledgable about any of this so I really need some help here.
Factory reset in TWRP a few times and power down. Pull the battery, reinstall and Odin stock OB7 again. Watch the auto boot, it should go into stock recovery noted only by a android with wavy antennas and small progress bar that may not even fill before booting the ROM.
If you don't see that, factory reset, power down and try again. Make sure stock is OK before trying another flash. Also, use internal memory to flash from. Almost sounds like your sdcard is encrypted?
BTW, I don't know of any available PIT file for our phone. I thought it may be included in the stock tar but who knows for sure? One thing I learned a while back on the older phones going from CM to stock, flash twice to correct the partitions. Maybe it still works? -different recoveries; flash, reboot recovery, flash again. Those ROMs included recovery.
Before going to Alliance, factory reset.
From the sound of things you don't need a pit file to repartition your phone. Don't attempt to mess with that. I would do what was suggested above. Just make sure you do the "factory reset" several times then wipe data several times. also go into advanced wipe and wipe everything EXCEPT your external micro-sd card several times as well. then odin flash the stock BOB7 rom tar. That should do it.

You got some options:
But first a heads-up: you will lose all your data.
Zip-flash method:
Copy the stock rom flashable zip to your micro sd. Make sure you got the flashable zip! To be flashed in twrp.!
Boot to twrp.
Factory reset
Then wipe system partition
Now flash the zip.
Wipe dalvik and cache.
Reboot
Enjoy
Fastboot method: (will surely wipe everything)
Search for team one rescue firmware on our XDA.
Download the firmware package.
Boot your phone into bootloader.
Connect your phone to your PC.
Make sure you got your backup to your PC. Or micro SD.
Extract the firmware package and start
Flash-all stock recovery.bat
Or a name similar.
Wait until the phone reboots in its own, and DO NOT , disconnect the phone while in process of flashing.
Once the the Google setup is visible, you can safely disconnect your phone.
You should be back on marshmallow stock rom.
Do some ota updates. Enjoy,

For starters, twrp is a custom recovery, so you don't have to put the word "custom" before twrp everytime you mention it. X)
There are flashable zips that contain the stock rom. So, in a sense, yes, but you can't do any ota updates.
Download any needed file before beginning to flash a new rom:
Custom Rom, Gapps and if you want root: Magisk or SuperSu. Put those files on your micro SD in your phone.
Create a backup in twrp. You Just have to slide from left to right, no need to select anything more than what is already selected from the start.
Before installing a custom rom, you have to always wipe system, data, dalvik and cache partition in twrp recovery.
Only then you can flash the stock rom, which can be downloaded in one of the threads here in our XDA Lenovo p2 forum.
Little need to know: before flashing any rom, do a factory reset in twrp and wipe system partition.
Be aware that by deleting the four partitions you will lose your app data, sms,call log and so on.
Internal storage however isn't affected, so your music und Pictures won't be deleted.

Thanks for your detailed answer I am now on custom rom, i will download stock rom from the sticky thread, although all links are dead but I will try to find a working link
BTW, what is the latest stock rom?
I think S251 ...i'm not sure though. It shiuld be the one with the highest number=latest version ?
I still think that custom roms are better than stock though but do what you think is right.
