Hello everyone,
I just bought my Note 2 last week and I love everything about it except that I've been having this problem with the GPS. I try to use the navigation app and keep having a Searching for GPS message. I know how the app is supposed to work because I came from a Galaxy S3.
I've been looking around on the Internet and searching forums but it doesn't seem like anyone else is experiencing my problem? The last thing post I've seen regarding this problem around the net is on a Galaxy S2.
My Note 2 is a unlocked and rooted Telus phone with a Fido sim card. Like I said everything runs great! Even the battery life is amazing. It's like night and day compared to the S3.
I am hoping to find a solution to the problem, otherwise I will try to flash to the N7105 firmware and hope for the best.

If anyone is wondering or going through the same problem, I managed to solve this problem myself by downloading an app called GPS Status. It seems that it basically automatically starts and locks on to a GPS location for me every time I use an app that requires GPS. I didn't work for me yesterday when I downloaded this app but there was an update to this app today and GPS started working.
I won't be flashing to the N7105 firmware anymore because my issue have been resolved...and I don't know how to flash a modem. I will definitely do it if the FM radio is somehow able to be enabled though.
I'm glad you seemed to have solved your problem. I was very hesitant about upgrading to the Note II, as my Note I had terrible issues with GPS fixes. I use navigation on my phone all the time, and I can't afford to get "No GPS" errors the vast majority of the time, despite the fact I live in a very heavily covered 4G LTE area. But, my Note IIs GPS has been flawless. So happy to have functioning GPS.

Hi all, exactly 2 weeks and 1 day ago I got a S2X, everything has been running great except it has a problem..
The GPS does not seem to work at all.
I've searched the net for any possible solution and most people have said to download GPS status or other similar app and wait till the phone gets an initial lock with more than 6 satellites. But here's my problem, my phone's GPS does not seem to work at all, whenever I try to locate my location it'd just gets stuck on SEARCHING FOR GPS for a looong time.. I've made sure I tested this on a clear day/sky so it should work..
Although, it seems like the GPS unit is able to get fix/sat but on 1-10 sattelites, it still says it is searching for GPS..
Because I bought this phone out from Koodo without a contract and It has been over 14 days I can no longer go back and exchange it.. Is there anything I can do to help fix the GPS problem?
EDIT:
I've tested this with a Telus SIM and Mobilicity Sim and both seems to work! GPS Status tells me that it is able to get fix/sat however the GPS icon still flashes and Google map still doesn't work..Also, there is no latitude or longitude or last fixed or even altitude as this picture..https://lh5.ggpht.com/JSUWXboRPtXJ_jTkWPx1MFizLa2TXA5U3kUHSunuNYY_CuE6FJpkTu2AFum_jlCcqydw
It only shows fix/sat and direction
No need to test Sims. It should be able to lock on without a Sim. So the problem is that your, phone doesn't lock on even though your apps says it does?
haven't heard of that problem. Have you tried a factory reset? Or a clean wipe if running custom roms?
What fixed it for me is flashing a modded radio.

You can try GPS Test on Play store. Open that app first, and wait until the satellites are locked, then open Google Maps. It will make Google maps locks faster. For me, google map is lazy and refuses to fix most of the time, but other gps-related apps still work great. I think its google map's issue, not your phone.

I also own galaxy s ii x. I have same issue. It has been like that since official ICS came out. No matter which radios or ROMs I use from JBs to ICS, I can never ever get GPS lock on google map period.
I was only able to get gps working again When I had gone back to Telus stock gingerbread.
I am still searching for a fix. It is not that your phone is defective. But I also wanna know how to solve this issue.

t mobile galaxy s ii
To hopefully help, I have a t mobile galaxy s ii. Had the same problem, brand spanking new phone and never really been able to get a GPS lock. I finally called t mobile and described the problem to the tech support people, went through my troubleshooting steps (reset, upgraded, etc, etc...). My new phone arrived yesterday....its a totally different phone. Same phone but it feels different. GPS locks with no issues...
You may have a hardware problem....
I have a s2x from Koodo as well, just ran navigation/google maps and got a gps signal in my basement with no probs. I am using AOKP rom though.
Did ur phone originally come with ICS or did u update via OTA?
Before u ever installed AOKP that is.

After I used odin back to Telus GB stock 2.3.5, I gained gps back.
I just rooted it and then flashed ptmr3's koodoo v3 ROM along with koodoo ics stock radio.
After several tests with gps status app and google maps, I have just confirmed gps locks in and works fine. Though gps does lock in very slow, I am just happy that the gps works now even on ICS

My friend got a Galaxy nexus he brought from amazon and asked me to root, unlock and install jelly bean on it because he cant wait. He is though, just a fan of stock and has no idea of rooting or any development, so i flashed on his phone the ota (bigxie_maguro_JRN84D_v2-signed.zip) then a radio (CWM-RADIO-i9250-JB.zip)... it went okay for a few weeks then he noticed a problem where his signal turned on and off very rapidly... especially in 3g, but when shifted into 2g, his signal seems to be fine.. i asked him what he did but he said he did nothing in particular that could have affected the signal.. he doesnt use his root access though so i believe him. i tried flashing different radio, and it didnt work. so can any of you guys can help us? thanks a bunch
send it back if you can. I'm still trying to get a perfectly working Nexus
When I was having issues with my signal (my RIL and baseband did not match) I found this app mentioned in the modem thread https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sibbor.getril and it seems to have helped resolve the issue for me. Hopefully it'll be of some use for your friend if he is experiencing the same issue.

I am on my 3rd GS3. The issue I am having is that my Navigation programs (default and telenav) will search and search for satellites, but won't connect. But when I restart my phone, it will work fine for a day or two then back to no connection.
I have spoken to Sprint and this is an unreported problem... until me. So, Sprint will replace my device. I am unrooted and completely stock. I know that Sprint is in Nashville, TN working on installing the 4gLTE towers. It isn't live yet, but they will turn on and off periodically.
I have searched these threads and I have not heard of any others with this issue. My first GS3 was rooted, but I have not done the two replacements. This has only occurred on an unrooted device.
Has anyone heard of this issue and know a resolution? I am considering rooting again to see if that is a fix. This is not a horrible issue, it is much better than a device that won't boot, but any help is greatly appreciated.

Currently Rooted running the people's rom (3.06) GPS works flawlessly. I have tested and used Scout (By Telenav) Telenav, and Google Maps with no issues at all (tested in FL, MS, And parts of AL during my drive there and back) Haven't had any issues tho.
Mine worked fine while unrooted but started not initializing for startup apps that needed it after i rooted it. I would have to go to the app directly for it to start the GPS. Otherwise the app would continuously look for location. Unfortunately I haven't been able to narrow it down to any one Rom or kernel. Any one else with this issue?

I have the same issue but haven't been able to figure out the cause either. Notice it mostly when I set my destination from my house, and wifi connected, then change location after leaving, and phone has kicked over to 3G.

Before I returned my phone for another replacement, I decided to delete all of the apps that I had downloaded. I then rebooted my phone. After 2 days, it worked fine. I then began installing apps one by one. I figured the problem had to be app specific and only apps that use gps. There was one of two apps I decided was the culprit: Facebook or JuiceDefender. I installed Facebook and it worked fine for 2 days. Ample time for the issue to appear. I have figured out that all along JuiceDefender is the problem. It is shutting off GPS like it is supposed to, but not turning it on when it is supposed to. The problem started when I reverted to stock and took the OTA Android update. I am just embarrassed that it took until now to look at the apps as the problem and not the phone. I am going to contact JD and let them know what I have found. I hope there can be a fix, JD really works well... except for my gps!
Anyways, look at apps first as the problem child before running to a repair shop (like I did!) .
Hope this helps others...

JD is designed to disable data connection to conserve battery, You can set it for a threshold where it will keep the connection alive if it's transmitting information back and forth.. (Must have Ultimate for that i believe) So if your disabling the data connection, then it'll kill GPS.
It is set on balanced. That is why I didn't think of juice defender first. Never had this issue until android updated.

I am having the same problem. My GPS will work, but for me, it's only for about 15 mins or so (while in an App that starts it). Then, if I stay in the app, it will just lose connection. If I exit the App, and the GPS turns off, then when I go back it, it will not turn on again. It isn't like it is searching and it doesn't get a signal...it never turns on. The only thing to bring it back is to reboot. I noticed it while on a custom ROM (TPR) and thought it must be that, so I flashed back to stock. Still the same thing. I then tried doing a factory reset. Still not working properly. Anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks in advance.

I took it in to Sprint they said it was the bad antenna and will give me a refurbish phone. This phone is less than a month old and why I will take a refurbish phone. Like I bought a brand new car and come in for a fix and they took me to the use car lot for a factory certificated car.
So I sent to Samsung and they claimed replacing a part and got the phone back, same problem is still happening.
Anyone can help us on this. It seems a common issue to a few of us.
Here is a simple GPS fix that works well.

In the OGP the only way maps will locate you is with the GPS and not the WiFi, I have worked settlings but unless the GPS is on and locked nothing in Maps will work from your location aspect?
Nope

Nope, I think it's the problem of your rom. Try another rom. I have experienced this once and had the same thought until I flashed another rom then I could locate easily with only internet connected
I have not unlocked it or installed a new ROM,I noticed it out of the box.Was concerned if I had defective unit

I have the same problem... I just switched from the iPhone 4s to the LGOGP and the GPS is wacked out of the box. Not sure what to do about it... I just rooted and was going to flash a different rom to see if that works... if anyone had the same issue and knows a fix, let us know.
Same issue with mine.

Personally, I always leave the GPS on. I haven't had any issues getting a lock.
Note 2 Searching for GPS problems
Hi I have the note 2 and for some time now I have been having problems using my sat nav be it google maps or co-pilot which is the two I have been using up to now.

have tried 3 different gps fix apps but non helped
can anyone help please I use my sat nav all the time and feeling lost with out it
note GT-N7105
Android vir 4,4.2
No help at all with this then
Try this....MUST BE ON STOCK ROM!
Go to the samsung service mode *#197328640#
UMTS --> Common --> NV REBUILD --> Restore
nothing happens when I type that in what's meant to happen you sure you put the correct number?
well got so fed up with this problem that I bought another Samsung 2 same LTE model, and god man its doing the same thing as my other one, theres something I,m downloading when syncing with google account I think as it was working to start with then after downloading all my apps its staed doing it again. I like the note 2 I got lots of spare batteries and things to go with it so don't really want to upgrade, I wonder if rooting it might help? what do you think?
seems this is happening to the note 4 as well so upgrading the phone wont do any good either. so is this the end of the note phone as we know it if we want to use GPS??
Search up GPS Fix on Play store... let it do its thing and see if it works
I already have mate tried 3 of them
problem sorted now if you ever get this problem download Samsung Smart Switch app on your PC and do a full wipe and reinstalled not just a reset.
this has worked for me and its working find now.
can be downloaded here
