Hi guys,
I use my Note 2 on the darkest brightness setting possible, no auto mode.
All apps are still bright enough except the email client: When I open my email inbox (not gmail), the screen goes even darker, making emails a bit hard to read in daylight. When exiting the email client, the screen goes brighter again.
How can I change this?
Thanks a lot,
Tek
EDIT: Never mind, "energy saving" was the culprit...
I have seen this happen on with the Email client and the Android Browser (not Chrome). Funny, when you leave the program you can see it brighten before the screen update. I saw it on the original stock rom, I have since gone to the DLJ2 rom and have not seen the issue yet.

Hi,
This is my very first post on here but i think I have found an answer to your problem regarding the dim display when browsing etc..
I discovered that on my Note 2 it doesnt dim if I disable the power saving feature..
Hope this helps you.
to resolve the issue with display brightness in stock e-mail app: go to settings / power-saving - and disable "background color" option (change background color to save power in internet) - this will affect both the native browser AND the e-mail app (don't ask me how is e-mail also "internet"... )

It is possible that the mail app uses the same engine to render mail as the web browser (HTML), this was the same for WM6 with is mail client.

stock email still way too dim
Please fix or give the option to use a white background.
I can't read the dark grey font on a black background. It's ridiculous especially in bright sunlight. It is totally unreadable and useless!
Form follows function. This is interactive design 101 and you've called the clad miserably. Make it usable please!
It's a simple fix.
If this isn't addressed I will have to use K-9 or another email program that is more user friendly.

There is an Xposed mod with which you can have White background in stock email app. I used it for some time, didn't like it however, the separation of unread and read mails were weird. Try it, maybe you'll like it.
PS: I see there is a CSC code too to change it!

MissedIt (at least in the latest version 1.4.0) works with all email clients which support notification, e.g K9.
Every app that uses notifications can be displayed (now).

I use the widget "SMS Unread Count", the thing for calls, mails and sms. works perfectly, but also miss the notification for gtalk...
when dragging the widget to homescreen, you'll have the possibility to change the icon, to give them a title... decide which "notification" size to choose–there are two options, small and large. zero's could also be displayed by choice.
a app called "missed it!" is what you looking for

Not that it only kills your battery but it severely speeds up the degradation on the screen even if its just black. A lit screen will degrade faster than a totally off screen.
Thanks brendo.
I assume this could be done for Facebook and Twitter???
yeah, anything with a notification (a number that dispays on the icon). ive seen it done with facebook, wish i could do it with ebay

I installed K9 Mail. wow am I impressed with this. I mean really impressed.
I have 5 issues. I am wondering if there is a FORUM anywhere for K9 ??
#1 Sound notifications. it plays one for EVERY single message that comes in. is there a setting anywhere (I looked did not find one) to make it only announce ONCE until I check the mail like gmail does?
#2 When I click the icon to open K9 it goes to the menu with 3 options.
Unified Inbox
All Message
gmail (my account)
I never EVER want to see this screen. now it has an option to check for "goto unified" when you starup but it appears to have no effect.
when I click the "notification" in the status bar it goes directly to unified.
but when I click a shortcut to the k9 application 100% of the time it loads that menu first and I have to then click Unified Inbox to goto mail.
anyway to fix this?
#3
I have mine set for VERY TINY text. I LOVE that I get so much info on the screen really love it.
problem is I can not tell the difference between "read" and "not read" messages. is there anyway to differenciate it more?
I am using the dark theme.
there is a difference. read is offwhite unread is bright white but its VERY hard to make this distinction on the screen at this font size.
#4 some message have a "gray" highlight over the entire message entry on the list. What does this mean?
in relation to #3 this would be PERFECT for distinguishing read and unread. ie grey highlight for unread no grey highlight for read (this is now how its being used now)
#5 There is a BLUE BAR at the top that says Unified Inbox # etc.. etc..
is there anyway to remove this? its useless info I just don't need and would rather it goaway (I could see it being useful if you had multiple mail boxes but I don't)
any help would be greatly appreciated.
besides these quirks (and they are rather minor quirks for the most part) I and FLAT OUT impressed. Hard core. with this program.
I'm a new GNex owner, and having used other Android overlays such as HTC's Sense, I was wondering if it's possible (if there are any mods possibly?) to do:
- Link Facebook status updates with contacts
- Link Facebook pictures with contacts
If the two above are not possible:
- When setting a 256x256 picture that is good quality as a contact picture, is there a way to have it remain good quality? Every picture I assign contacts looks like crap and pixelated
Adding on:
- Is it possible to create folders in the app drawer?
- Is it possible to change the color of a new message in the text messaging application? When you get a new text it's white instead of light grey, and it's hardly noticeable which conversation is the new one.. is there a way to set the new conversation (in the message inbox overview) to say a light blue that matches the rest of the UI? Or even have a notification beside the message (where it displays all the messages) to let you know which one if the new message?
Thanks.

**I believe there is an app called hacksync or haxsync (not sure on the spelling) that lets you link up contact pics through facebook. having never used it I can't tell you if it is in the store or here on XDA. I would do a search and I'm sure you'll find it.

**Unfortunately this is a problem on Google's end. The servers they use to store contact information on have very low picture resolution. like 96x96 low. Solution: in the account settings, turn off sync google pics or use hacksync

**Neither one of these options are possible unless your rooted. even then I haven't seen a mod for adding folders to the app drawer. It could be out there but I doubt it. There are mods for changing the apperance of the stock msg app but you are limited to whatever the themer wants it to look. (I actually feel the same way about the calender ut so far I haven't seen a good replacement theme for it yet). however, if you want full control to customize your SMS the way you want, you can either download GO SMS or Handcent SMS from the store. Both offer full customization for all aspects of the application.
I hope this helps

Not to my knowledge. Definitely not in stock.

Alternate SMS apps can surely configure colors.
Thanks for the responses.
I downloaded HaxSync and it's awesome! The pictures are good quality and it shows recent activity from my contacts.
I'm going to try an alternative messaging application. If I have two messaging applications open though at the same time (does the stock messaging app run as a background process all the time?), will it slow my phone down?

It will run, and is required to fetch the messages. It won't slow anything down.
Go launcher EX allows you to make folders in the app drawer i believe.
I havent used it for a while but its a really good replacement launcher and has tons of features.
You might like that.

Not at all. Just disable notifications in the stock app and you're good to go with the replacement.
I'm on stock yakju 4.04 and yes, I'm able to create a folder and drag it to my app tray.

And how exactly do you do that?
Evening all,
I am after a bit of advice. Being new to this Droid world im having a bit of difficulty with the email app. The one in the iPhone just… worked but the one that is built in with my note is providing to be a little more challenging. The Gmail app works great and I love it, but it doesn’t support my Uni email which is via exchange.
If I use the stock app, it has a horrible black screen which makes text hard to read, and it doesn’t always sync my emails properly.
Any advice on email apps? I want what I had on my iPhone, or as close to it as possible.
Thanks in advance
I don't know what this "black screen" you mention is. I use the stock email for my multiple exchange accounts. I have no problem with reading or consistency.
I'm on a us at&t unrooted. Providing a screen shot may help.

Thanks for the quick reply. The black screen is when I open the email app and it shows the email in thread form. When I open the email the background is usually white.
No black here. Did you change some other settings?

I will try and upload something now
Please see attached screenshot. I have minimised all mail messages. Basically you have a black background and grey text. Its not ideal when reading. In addition to this i have found that Google will push the email to its own app, but using this Samsung app, it needs a time period to sync. I have tried a few different settings and not had much success.
I see now. I have too much mail for a condensed view to be an issue showing a black screen. That seems to be a very trivial issue. You can't really read your messages if they're closed up like that !
Yes gmail does have push, but you can have the same thing with exchange. However, it's not nearly as efficient; ive had exchange live push drain batteries way too quickly. Email polling is a standard feature on all email clients that are not "native" to the Microsoft ecosystem. The upside is you can set the time range for more often vs over hours (such as non work time or the middle of the night ).
Short story is, try to adjust to a different way of doing something. And nothing prevents you from doing a manual refresh on those OCD days.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
I was using the collapsed view just to show the background. The text from any emails are a shade of grey with a black background. Really annoying.
Hi guys, I would like to suggest to develop an app that allows to get in push all notifications in the edge screen (whatsapp ad gmail do not light-on the edge screen automatically). It should be very useful to have a panel, containing %battery and a counter for sms/social/mail, which appears automatically in event of incoming messages/mails. Moreover, by clicking on each counter, I would like to read directly on the edge screen the content of the messages (sms, whatsapp,...) or sender+subject (mail).
What do you think about that? IMHO it could be a non-negligible battery saving as I don't need to always use the main screen to read every message.
Can anyone develop an app as above decribed?
Would be awesome! I hope that someone will develop such an App
