No usb support for mouse - Sprint LG Optimus G

I have not been able to connect a usb mouse using my adapter to my phone. I understood that android supported this after 3.1. It works just fine on my nexus 7 so i wonder if LG disabled it. Anybody else seeing this? I mainly want to be able to connect a usb drive to my phone so i can watch tv shows on it. Even tried using stickmount (which i had to sideload since it says unsupported in play store)

For some reason USB OTG is not available on the Optimus G... very disappointing, coming from a S3 where i can hook up my PS3 controller to play games, i can no longer do this, or attach expandable storage... Hopefully in the much anticipated Jelly Bean update?

I sure hope so. That is like one of the many reasons android rocks

did you try the usb otg cable?
the phone is a piece of junk without otg. You see, 32 gb is extremely not enough. And you always can connect a 1tb hdd
what to do here?

Anyone figure this out? It looks like the N4 MHL is also not working.

Sorry, I should be more specific, how about US Sprint version? How about OTG support with thumbdrive?

i doubt that there is a difference in usb ports. Thats why no usb-otg without external power supply.
with external power supply has to be chacked.

mhl by service manual should work

I have an issue with OTG on my new nexus 7, I plugged in a Microsoft wireless mouse nano transceiver, and the nexus thinks it's a keyboard as well, so it disables the on screen keyboard. What can be done to fix this?

I've been scouring the internet looking for an answer about USB host mode on the 2013 Nexus 7 as well, and I can't find anything about it, other than one stray comment on the Google Play store saying that it does not. I'm still hoping that it will though. I ordered two of them at work, they will be here on Tuesday. I'll try a USB device on one of them first thing, and I will let you know.
If the 2013 Nexus 7 doesn't have host mode, I'll be sticking with a 2012 Nexus 7. That's a dealbreaker for me.
Nexus Media Importer is supposed to work. Otherwise rooting and using an app like Stickmount will give you full functionality.
Same situation with Gen1 Nexus 7.
Got my hands on one. An Apple USB keyboard and USB flash drive works, a USB mouse did not. By default it provides 8 mA, and the Apple keyboard drew 80 mA.
This should work. It's an MicroUSB OTG cable (It came with an Android Stick), and attached to it is one of the little USB MicroSD card readers that are often included when you buy the SD Card.
(The card is shown pulled out from the reader).
I cannot verify that it works, because I just got my N7(2013) tonight, and I have not yet rooted or installed Nexus Media Importer.
For right now, I stuck my old tablet's card in the Micro-reader, and stuck the micro reader in the USB port on my NAS, and I am pulling everything back down with ES File.
I'll try mounting OTG Storage - perhaps from the command line, once I get some time to play with this thing.

I have the new 2013 Nexus 7 and the only way I can get OTG to work is to start up the tablet w/ the OTG cable connected.
It's a bummer. Does anyone else have this issue?

Mine works really well with Stickmount. No needing to start the tablet with otg connected, etc. Just plug and play.

Good to know that OTG works, as they still make these things with too little storage and no MicroSD. Thanks for the info.
Have had success on the stock ROM unrooted with Nexus Media importer. Was initially having some problems but it turned out to be a bad cable. Changed the cable and no problems.

How's the drive formatted? I imagine here's a good chance a 64GB flash drive will be formatted with exFAT, which stock Android can't deal with.
(That said, I have a 64GB drive here which came formatted with FAT32... and no tablet to plug it into yet...)

Doesn't depend on how many cores a device has. Depends on how much power it can supply to the externally connected device.
USBs require low power whereas HDDs require a lot more

Yes it works, I have rooted device Tab 3 8.0 T311, with all must have apps topped with 'Paragon exFAT, NTFS & HFS+'
My drive - A 2 TB ext powered Seagate Goflex :silly:
Works smoothly
[ Edited/added later]
FYI if ur not aware u need to be rooted, have busybox (once rooted its a must have, if not for this for other important apps), get a good OTG cable, for drives with no ext power supply better get a Amkette or Transcend USB 3.0 powered USB Hub's, you wouldn't want ur drive sucking ur tab's battery like a vampire
and have fun Yeaa !

USB-OTG ?

So recently I have been reading in forum due to low space on nexus 7 ppl were speaking about this things.

If any 1 would be so kind in detail explain me how that thing is working I would be really happy

USB-OTG might not work out-of-the-box on custom ROMs.
If its not working you can try these apps to torubleshoot:
- OTG Troubleshooter
- USB Host Diagnostics
If the USB drive is not mounting then try these:
- USB OTG Helper
- StickMount
Both mounting apps and the stock mounting method mount the USB drive at different paths.

If you have problems with otg and a custom rom you can flash the Bulletproof kernel.
Since there has been no mention of drives I'll add some info.
I can use otg with 2.5 inch drives without external power. (both fat32 and ntfs formats). 3.5 inch drives require external power.
I use stickmount pro (requires root).
I'm running stock firmware and kernel. - KOT49H

I'm guessing you mean ES Explorer as I can't find EZ Explorer. *It works for me mounted as usbStorage/sda1 using ES Explorer, etc.

Stickmount Pro works the best in my opinion and allows you to use your favorite root explorer. Just create a shortcut to your home screen and when Stickmount mounts your micro drive all you have to do then is open the home screen shortcut

No, a regular Western Digital "My Passport" USB HDD.
My Nexus 5 provides enough power without needing a y-cable/external power. But thats probably because it has a snapdragon 800 chipset.
The Tab S uses an Exynos 5 so I'm worried it won't be able to power up the drive.
Anyone tried a USB HDD with the tab S?
Many thanks in advance
Can't get my hdd to work on the t805 weird thought because my g3 can power it.
Galaxy Tab S 10.5 USB OTG works with my 32gb PNY flash drive. I formatted it first in FAT 32 and my drive was recognised instantly. You can double check if it is recognised under the 'storage' option in settings, then in the USB OTG storage tab.
Then i reformatted it in exFAT on my computer and it still works perfectly. It was instantly recognised upon plugging it into the tablet.
The USB OTB cable (micro usb to female usb) I used was a cheap generic ebay one which does the job. So yes, this device does support USB OTG natively (though I haven't tried NTFS format yet).

Half otg suppprt

Well I just found out the turbo 2 doesn't transfer from the device to a USB but it does transfer from the USB to the device. This sucks I need it to work the other way. I hope they fix this with marshmallow or a small update. There is not reason a device should not support this in today's day and age.

Went on Motorola forums and Mark was useless. Told me he would look into it and never got back to me. I did find a work around. Download USB otg file manager for nexus from the play store it works on the turbo 2. only issue is its slower then having it native in the OS. It can take 5 to 10 minutes to transfer a movie depending on size.

Ok, this is my last post about this. I plugged the otg cored in with a wireless mouse and it worked. I have 4 different brands and sizes of thumb drives and non of them work. It seems like the phone isn't pushing out enough power through the otg cord to read the thumb drives. Any ideas?
Moto X Force here, just plugged my CorsairVoyager Go 64Gb , read and write ok
Did you grand USB Storage permissions ? If not you can read but not write
Just install ES explorer, the first time you'll try to write on the usb storage a permissions pop-up will appear and guide you through to accept sd-card write or usb-storage write
-->
if storage permissions don't work maybe Verizon disabled some OTG functions that are enable in the international version (Moto X Force) (((((((
My Turbo 2 has worked fine with OTG since day one... using a Meenova Dash Micro, shows up under "Storage" in Settings and can be accessed by any app...
Ok, im not going to let this go because it bugs me. I have four flash drives of different brands and sizes. My wife found a 2gb PNY flash drive from about 6 years ago and have it to me yesterday. I said to hell with it and plugged in the otg cable and put the flash drive in. Hell froze over quickly because it worked. It's the only one that has worked so far and I do not understand it because it's old. It's formatted in FAT. The rest of my flash drives are formatted FAT32. Anyone have a clue because I sure don't. I was going to re format my other flash drives but I shouldn't have to because my nexus and my s5 read them just fine.
If you want to copy files without changing time stamp you should use Root Explorer ou ES File Manager, works fine for me
Ok, just for a update... I gave up on this for awhile. I had been trying to use Toshiba, Sandisk and PNY usb 2.0 Flash drives and none of those would work. I had ordered a Sandisk usb 3.0 off of Amazon a few weeks back and i had forgotten that i had gotten it. I found it in my drawer and tried it with the otg cable and it worked. I tried it on my wife's turbo 2 and it worked on hers. So I've found a brand and usb type that will work with my phone so I'll stick with it.

I am using Es file explorer pro and it works with any USB device. From what I can tell you have to grant permission to the file explorer. Not all ask for permission so the transfer fails.

I thought I'd add my experience here. I bought an X Force, and on day one tried a 64Gb SanDisk USB stick. It worked fine, and I started watching a movie. On day 2 I took the Marshmallow OTA, tried the USB stick again (to finish watching the movie) and... no joy. After a bit of research, I believe that this is because the USB stick is formatted as exFAT, and it looks as if Moto dropped support for exFAT in Marshmallow.
I have the Droid Turbo 2, USA Verizon - and the Sandisk USB 3.0 with the dual port. The thumbdrive worked on my Kindle Fire 7", and my buddy's Galaxy Note 5, no problem. It even worked on my kindle fire when formatted to NTFS. It doesn't work on my Droid, with the MicroUSB plug, or when the normal USB 3.0 end is plugged into an OTG cable. However, if I plug the sandisk thumbdrive into a Sabrent USB 3.0 hub, plug that into my OTG cable, and plug that into the Droid Turbo 2, I can read everything just fine.
Then looks like that Turbo doesn't provide enough power to usb device or doesn't provide it at all.
But, I have Oppo portable headphone DAC amplifier HA-2 (and PM-3 headphones, awesome sound) and works out of the box with Force. Even indicate charging if I use generic OTG cable. With Oppo cable, amplifier is not draining any energy from the phone.
I'll try USB stick with Force...
