When flashing a mod for certain roms...do you guys usually clear cache/ dalvik before or after flashing the mod... Or not at all. Just curious as to which method works best.
I always wipe both before and after, just to be safe.

You're going to want to wipe dalvik and cache (as you always should when Flashing something). Possibly even battery stats if you want to play it safe
Treat kernels just like you do roms I don't want you to be paranoid

Don't wipe data
Do wipe cache
I never wipe battery stats, but I suppose you could.

Exactly...
Just make sure to ONLY wipe cache and dalvik cache. This will ensure that the kernel is flashed correctly with no traces of the previous kernel. Again, like said previously, treat flashing kernels as you do flashing ROMs. It's easy, and if anything goes wrong (rarely ever happens, unless you use a kernel not designed for the EVO, LoL) then it can always be undone by reflashing
Good luck and enjoy! You'll be fine br0
For completeness....(? it's Christmas)
Due to some possible wipe (recovery) issues:
Wipe cache , twice.
Wipe Dalvick , twice.
IIRC
Thanks all for your help. I looked at a couple of different kernels, which one do yall think is the best mainly for the battery anyway?

I'm running SBC-net 4.2.2. And it runs great for me. Good battery and is smooth.
Do you have a link that I can download that kernel?

Yea. Sorry guys. Meant the data, don't wipe it. Several others already explained it so don't worry.

I just sifted through the forum and couldnt find anything so is there a special thing you have to do if you want to return to Sense after CM 7 and MIUI? Or can you just flash a Sense rom?
I remember on the Fascinate we had to ODIN a stock ROM after because of MTD BLM.
No you can just flash. Well you should clear data/cache.
I normally wipe data factory
wipe cache
format system
clear davlik
clear battery
then flash.
Might be to much but thats normally what I do and Ive never had any problems.

I would definitely wipe all those, especially from an AOSP Rom to a Sense Rom
FWIW, I do the same, except I don't bother to wipe battery stats.

Make sure you return to a stock kernel as well (if you changed it). From what I have heard, sense and AOSP kernels are not compatible with each other.

+1 that.
Guys, we need to stop telling people to wipe dalvik and cache before flashing a kernel. It's completely pointless.

Really. The kernel has nothing to do with the cache partition, so wiping it is literally useless. No need for it, only when switching ROMs, etc, but for kernels, no need.

I believe several kernel devs themselves have said it's completely useless to wipe. Has nothing to do with the kernel at all.

it was something else thar caused the bootloop. dalvik cache and cache involve your apps(system and user).
Hi everyone,
Coming from the og evo. Every time I did a factory wipe for a new version of Deck's ROM (fav), I would lose all my apps, data,ect... I flashed lifeless v6 wiped system and both caches in twrp then choose the recommended factory wipe in aroma. However, after reboot, I still have all my stuff. Did I miss something? Thought I would be restoring with titanium after I flashed.
A big thanks to all the devs working hard to make this phone amazin' :highfive:
Weird. It should wipe everything. What recovery are you using?

You need to do a factory wipe as well. The wipe only does
system, cache, dalvik
the second option only does system.

TWRP 3.2 I believe. Everything seems to running great. Apollo works, no fc on anything. I noticed better WiFi reception after flashing. not sure if that was included in the tweaks or not. Still not sure what happened?! Just to be clear, a factory wipe means everything goes? I guess I'll be keeping it dirty
Just wanna know what are your steps when you actually do a super CLEAN install? I would like to know since there arent that many mentions around in the arc community.
Usually performing a wipe data/factory reset alongside wiping the cache and Dalvik cache in CWM does he job.Sometimes its better to clear /system too when installing a new ROM.
You don't have to wipe data to flash a new kernel - just cache and dalvik cache(not compulsory too. You won't lose any data. But it never hurts to wipe those two things. As far as i know It will just take longer to boot.)

My plan is to actually do that since I'm experiencing reboots when im turn on mobile data on KXP (which never happened before using arcfusion 3.x). This happened after flashing lupusv5 and now i'm on lupusv6 and i thought it'd stop but it's still there. So I think I isolated the problem to the ROM. So I just flash stock ftf like that? No exlusions (using Flashtool) like baseband, etc?

Of course you will, otherwise it's not what I would call a "clean install". Might be annoying, tedious, time consuming or whatever you want to call it but it's the best way imo.
