[Q] /efs folder - Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660

Hey guys,
I have another question about flashing,
reading through some threads about flashing i learned that you have to backup your /efs folder before flashing anything.
It's said to have your phone's IMEI, Mac adress and product code.
I tried to backup it the way explained in this thread: *click*
But all methods result in: /efs: No such file or directory.
Does that mean the Gio doesn't have this folder?
How do you backup your IMEI etc then?
Thanks,
DevWithCookies

I treid many roms and I still have an imei number and mac adress.

Ya, I read it won't get corrupted so fast.
But i wanna play safe, this is my first android phone.
If i brick this one, i gotta use my old non-android device for 2 years. (parents say so)
2 years without apps !

Does anyone know how to backup it?

you cant, just dont do something stupid
Sent from my GT-S5660 using xda app-developers app

No you don't need.
As far you follow the correct step, you won't missing the IMEI, and Mac address.
Unless you need unlocked Sim card provider , you should backup that folder. In my experience, when i unlocked S2 from t-mobile

But the efs has to be stored somewhere?
How does Gio store IMEI etc then?
Just curiosity...

Unfortunately, i never backup the efs folder from my gio since using it..

I heard that u need to use computer(Using ADB and connect Gio using usb with adb access) to backup efs but im sure that u wont lose ur imei tht easily

You can't back it up at all.
I googled a bit and the tool that should work (EFS Pro) doesn't work,
an app that could do this said me my device is not compatible and even trying
it with adb myself resulted in "Folder does not exist".

HELP IMEI Lost

My Nitro's imei was lost in between flashing Roms, I did not have an imei backup, I've tried the temporary recovery solution in the lu-6200 forum with no fix, I can no longer access cellular network or data. Would appreciate anything right now as I really don't want to have to buy a new phone

Have you tried the LG update Tool ? If you dont have a Ginger Bread rom .Try the unbrick method up to when you flash the korean GB version then run the LG update tool to get stock ICS and see if a factory restore would reset the imei .Honestly I have done havoc to this phone and havent had imei messup .
Actually doing the official update right now, I have done havoc to mine too, I've flashed countless amounts and unbricked at least 5 times. I guess the phone finally got sick of it and quit on me
EDIT: after doing the official update my imei is still missing

Try in dialer *#06#.
Do you recall the steps you took to flash that resulted in this ?
Flashed via CWM from HoNo's official ICS to CM9 stable doing a wipe of dalvik and wipe of data/cache

There is no way you can get it back, but you can restore some partition's data from other cell phone, use other people's imei.
I would just send it to LG to repair and/or replace.

Sir i did that but it displayed IMEI: 0
I'd like to make an important note that I flashed my phone twice using the lg official update tool, that the second time I did it I selected recover phone option and entered my imei, after that around downloading at 4% I disconnected my phone and after it started up my imei had returned! However after a reboot of my phone it was lost again, I repeated the steps several times to get it back and it has not recovered again. I have also let it perform a complete flash after entering my imei and it still has not come back
EDIT: My IMEI occasionally appears giving me a connection to the network however I can only receive texts, no calls, SMS, or data. Then once I reboot my IMEI is gone again. Another note is that I can not disable the radio no matter what I try.

Contacted LG regarding repair, they said issue was service related and I should contact ATT

Can you get into recovery? If so wipe your caches and re flash your Rom. That should replace any missing files without you losing anything you want. If you want to use a different Rom then you have to full wipe otherwise you'll have compatibility issues.
Edit: you said you were on the n7100 though so make sure you flash the n7100 Rom
i were do as you say, but,it change nothing with my phone,i think that it may be the problem with hardware, some more way to repair my phone?

Boot into CWM, connect Note to PC via USB and change your build.prop back over ADB.

Really? That's not a fix; it's not even advice. You're just suggesting he give up and start over. He just made a bad build.prop edit. All he has to do is undo the changes he made via ADB and reboot. It's Android tweaking 101.

i forgot i wipe and system , is recomand reflash rom in my situation ?
If you already wiped. Then yes reflash the rom.
For your knowledge, for next time make a nandroid backup before making any major modding.

Aside from the ADB fix for those who failed to do a nandroid backup, this is the best advice so far. Recovery is your friend. ALWAYS DO A NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE TWEAKING!!

Yeah, take a Nandroid, if you can't at least backup your build.prop dude. Never change it unless it's absolutely necessary.

Odd question for a somewhat noob
So ya I have had the SGS3 T-Mo google wallet hack by editing the build.prop for a while, works great! Today I went to to put the copied original build.prop back into system and renamed edited/hacked one to _build.prop, but it got stuck at Samsung logo at boot. Recovery & Download mode OK. I had a CWM backup from a month ago, I know I should have done a backup up & at least weekly while developing apps, but i have now recovered back to the old one, and man it's old.
What i am looking for is can I can I go and edit/replace the build.prop in a CWM backup? Or push it through ADB in Recovery mode?
Note:
I did try using ADB while in CWM, but phone did not get recognized in ADB, needed phone back, so just recovered last month old backup for now. If I can recover the looped backup, and get ADB to recognize device, then i know I can just push it to the folder, but will ADB work in CWM recovery mode? Never done much ADB in recovery or DL mode.

Sorry i just realized i posted in the wrong forum. Didn't realize this was Note until after post, my bad, sorry

flashing a back up on new phone

I had a case of sudden death and att replaced my phone.my question is can I root it and restore the back up from the one that got replace? the imei and seriel # aren't in a nandroid right? or should I root and start flashing all my mods from scratch?
I think you can and restoring it won't mess up anything with your imei or serial as that's not rewritten. I wouldn't though. I'm in the start fresh crowd.

Just root it, install the custom recovery you used to make the backup. Put the backup on your phone and restore.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using XDA Premium HD app
yeah you can do this with no problems. just make sure you use the same recovery/version on both devices.
Ok I did it. Had to make a backup so that twrp could create the directory, then moved the preexisting backup into that directory and presto.

[Q] CWM backup help!

Hey guys. I was wondering if there was an app or a program that could take a backup of my phone like the one from cwm. See i have a permanently locked bootloader and i want to try out the 4.3 firmware, without losing all my customisations on my current firmware. If thereis an app or a program that makes such backups, link it to me. THANKS
Sent from my C2005 using xda app-developers app
Well, if you have root then you can use this app. Another option would be using "adb backup" command, this one works without root but some contents may not be backed up...
Thanks for the reply, but there is one problem, that app doesn't allow me to restore the backup that i have made. Is there any app for that, or is it just impossible. By the way, i have a rooted phone, i just cannot unlock the bootloader
Sent from my C2005 using xda app-developers app
Uh, I forgot that, Online Nandroid Backup only makes the backup, a recovery is still needed to restore, so, it's useless for you. You'll have to stick with adb backup then, it'll backup most of your apps and data, but modifications you made directly to system (buil.prop changes, files flashed with Flash Gordon, etc) will be lost...
Ah ok thanks bro. I'll just wait until a root method for licked bootloaders has been discovered on 4.3.
Thanks again
