Op what did you Odin? You have to root your phone first in order to install clockwork recover
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I first put into download mode
Then I put the clockworkmod.tar file and then clicked start.
After that it said to hold down the volume up button with the home and power button. I did that . But after it just gets me into android recovery mode.

You need to first root your phone and get superuser in first before you do anything with clockwork mod. You can find out how to root by going to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1735561 or if you aren't using tmobile, just do a search on the forums

Yeah, after you odin that you should have rooted your phone. Then you can flash clockwork mod and flash it to go to recovery.
Morning,
Loving the site, tons of stuff..Almost to much lol Anyway, so just getting into rooting. I used option 2 of simple lifes rooting guide. Now I want to run the jedi13 rom, but I cant figure out how to flash the rom because of the way the phone boots... pretty easy rooting process, but now I can't figure out how to flash the rom or re root due to the new initial boot directory when I vol+ home pwr up the phone... I've looked through tons of guides, but still no luck :banghead:

After rooting the device, did you install a custom recovery? you can download goo manager in the play store and install TWRP recovery and reboot to it. If you already have the recovery installed and cant boot to the recovery then use adb to reboot it. Or another way is download terminal emulator and reboot using command lines from you for...only if you have root.
are you on stock or non stock recovery .. And to get into download mode . As far as i know from a off state hold down vol down and power button . to get into down load mode and its vol up to recovery ..
Not tried on my note but its how it goes on the note 10.1 tablet and other samsung devices i have had

Negative, only stuff I installed after the root was superSU and titanium backup.. both of the paid versions. .. When I power up holding vol+ Home Power instead of any upload option I just get the following
Reboot sys now
Apply update from ADB
Apply update from external storage
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Apply update from cache
Tried wipe data/factory reset to clear the root mod (multi-csc), but basically just wiped my phone of everything else except the root, lol, so at that point I figured I should ask for help..

that is the stock recovery. You need to get root again since u factory reset it. Once u get superSU go to play store and download goo manager to install TWRP or if you prefer CWR then install rom manager.

You don't have to reroot after a factory reset, these aren't iphones (unless you just mean download supersu again) But everything else is correct

reboot again and hold vol up home and power until samsung appears then let go of power, but still hold home and vol up until recovery comes up. from there you can select to install zip ,which would be your rom. make sure to do a clean install (factory data wipe, wipe cache) Then use the instructions the op has up from where you downloaded the rom. should be good to go.

I used goo manager to download and install the latest recovery. Every time I go to boot into recovery it gets to the load screen where the blue letters are at the top but then it vibrates two or three times then reboots the phone like normal. My phone is rooted but not sure why it's doing this....help would be appreciated.

Have you tried flashing TWRP via Odin?
Have you tried to install twrp again?
Try installing cwm (you can use the ROM manager app) and see if that boots. Then try using too to install twrp again.
Sent from your phone. You should be careful where you leave that thing.
I haven't tried using Odin yet. I will give that a try. I was hoping I could do it without having to use a computer. I have tried reinstalling twrp using goo manager without success.

Switch to cwm to make sure the recovery partition of the storage is okay. Install cwm via the ROM manager app and make sure you can get into SOME recovery. Then try to install twrp again from too. Switching to another recovery was an important step in that process.

Finally got twrp installed! Goo manager and Rom manager did not work for me....they both would not boot into recovery. I had to use Odin mobile and install the recovery then it would boot. Thank everyone that helped out. Hope this can help someone else.

This is a little late here, but I an others have had trouble booting into recovery after flashing ROMs like the leaked 4.3.
It behaved just like the above when I was trying to get into recovery to restore a nandriod - even after a battery pull for 1 minute. I put in into Download mode, then did a battery pull. After that, it went into recovery with no problem.
Note - if Goo Manager installed 2.5.0.3 - that could be part of the problem, as there are issues with it. I went back to 2.5.0.2.
I think some 4.3 roms make you loose root also read their op.

Omega 1.0 was the first one to indicate it was rooted - but it unrooted me. It was when I initially tried to restore a nandriod when I could not get into recovery. I had read about others not being able to get into recovery after flashing 4.3 also.
So just picked up a new Galaxy S3 AT&T as my old one had a cracked LCD. I rooted using Odin, boot into recovery Clockwork Recovery, installed superuser and rebooted. Afterwards I tried to go back into the clockwork mod recovery to install roms but instead of CWM I was greeted with the factory android recovery screen instead.. I tried rooting a few times, each time shows clockwork mod recovery but after a reboot it reverted. This use to work on my previous galaxy but this new one isnt taking it..
version 4.1.2 Just got it yesterday.. Any idea?

This is not the AT&T galaxy s3 forum. This is the GT-i9300 (international) forum. Top of teh screen is a "type to find your device" box, which you can use to locate the correct forum.
Or better yet, use the /!\ report button to the top right of your post to report it for a moderator to move it to the correct location.
Lol I did not read your post right :silly:

Thread moved to AT&T Q&A.
Check for a file named /system/etc/install-recovery.sh on your system partition. That will try to replace the recovery when the phone starts in case it has been corrupted.
Try booting to recovery with Rom manager.
