[Q] Rooting the Desire HD

Hey guys, I am going to root my Desire HD, but Im not sure what the best method out there is currently. Could someone point me to a thread or a description on how to root in order to get custom ROMS? Thanks. I have android 2.3.3 and htc sense version 2.1

This is the best Guide
just pay attention
if somethings doesn't work, BELIEVE ME , you did something WRONG
and don't worry...you wont BRICK your phone..... even if you gonna get some errors....is manageable
also . i recomend you ANDROID REVOLUTION HD by mike 1986,,,is the best custom ROM

Direct to S-Off

I want to S-Off my Desire but when I do a search of the forum with "S-Off" as the search criteria I get zero hits but I'm certain a "how to" guide will have been posted somewhere. Can anyone direct me to a guide or give me instructions on what to do

Using the new beta http://alpharev.nl/x/beta/ is even easier... Just a little tip: copy the beta serial into the terminal I and l look so similar...

Took your suggestion and tried the Beta and it worked a dream. Very quick, no fuss and no messing about Thanks.

How root official desire gingerbread 2.3.3

i upgraded my desire official desire froyo to ginferbread 2.3.3 before this i backup my phone from recovery after i upgrad i lose evrything know i needmto root this rom to go back my backup help me pls.

You cannot root it yet.

Dont need root to use the search function.

Well if they say, you can't then you probably can't this time. Also in other threads were updates - people are working on it. It will be on the forums, when root is available.

You have to wait either for HTC to release their boot unlocker or someone else who manage to root it. It's a race. Wonder who will faster.

aren't there rooted stock GB roms in development section? maybe you should ask developers how did they do it?

Here's an idea, search before making a new thread. Its right there in the rules of these fora. There are multiple threads about this subject already. If you can type then you can read, right?

You do read that its not about rooting an ordenary gingerbread device, right?
After HTC released the official upgrade to 2.3.3 alot of eager smartphone users have left their cooked 2.3.x rooted devices stranded on the upgraded 2.3.3.
As did I. Now I am too looking for a solution to get back to the much better 2.3.x rooted version gingerbread that I had before.
I understand threadstarters frustration. Maybe so should you instead of flaming?

EDIT: just found the other thread about downgrading to bootloader 0.93. But still think a decent reply to a kind would be nice, eventhough there are other threads about same topic.

Yes and as we all said there are already multiple threads about this exact subject. I understand that the thread starter is frustrated but there are others with the same problem already. Thats why you're meant to search before posting new threads, because there are already threads covering this topic.

its only a week i have bought a desire and cos it was my first android phone, i didnt have much information and updated my froyo to official gingerbread and then i understood what mistake i have made. i am keeping my eye on the forum to see any good news of rooting it

You need this tool from revolutionary.io (sorry I cant post links yet)
It was quite easy (after finding a guide on google).
I needed to root so I could updated the radio and have 2 way call recording, it's working perfectly. Well happy

lol I thought we all knew that revolutionary works on the 1.02 hboot now??

hello i run revolutionary and im done until it ask "do u want to download and flash &recovery" and im say yes and it done,and i have a question how can i root? and in this recovery when i select each item it just show revolutionary

To select items use the optical trackpad, not the power putton

Yes it can, Revolutionary currently supports the following Android phones and HBOOT versions:

Try contact Revolutionary then. Because they made the prog and we don't have a crystal ball where we can see why it doesn't work for you.

and make sure you follow all steps as they mentioned on revolutionary page

I installed driver, actived debug usb, connect to pc only charge.
revolutionary see my desire but when i put beta key....error beta key invalid.

then you need to contact revolutionary, they give you proper answer

I wish some of you members would be a little more polite to people. Yes they are asking a question that has been asked a few times, but so what? This forum is for helping people.
By the time you have insulted them you could have posted a helpful answer and been the saviour of the thread

Download the file again, chances are you're using the old version which needs the OLD beta key

do it with revolutionary........before using it properly install htc desire(with htc sync) drivers,adb drivers(if on windows)...google for the drivers....uninstall the htc sync....then run revlutionary ...and the beta key is 3EOf1E7vN1CEe1XJ...rooted my desire with official gingerbread....now on miui....the link for revolutionary is http://revolutionary.io/.....

I just rooted over the weekend, i used Revolutionary tool, and used the HTC Fast Boot Drivers that are linked on that site. Nothing else.
Everything the loaded up fine, after that i was able to just go into Recovery and install a custom ROM.

Revolutionary would do it. Then revolutionary have an SU patch zip file you can run through Recovery, Install zip from SD. Then you can root original 2.3 on Desire

[Q] *noob* How do i update my DHD to sense 4.0/4.1?

Hey guys,
I have Desire HD for like a year I guess, and I have never tried to update stuff and jailbreak (root) it or anything..
After a long time I feel that I need to have a little refreshment for my phone and do something with it.
A friend told me that if I would update it to Sense 4 it will be just great.
and thats what i want to do, to update my phone to Sense 4.
I dont want any other ROMs that people made, just the normal HTC Sense 4.0/4.1
Can you guys help me out and tell me how can I do that?
BTW. current sense version is like 2.1 or something.

Sure. You'll need to buy another htc phone to get what you want.
Any rom you find here will be ported from another device. The most you'll be able to get from your carrier/htc is sense 3.0, go over to the website, download the ruu, follow the instructions.

Well, first you need to root. Read the PDF guide in post #7 of the Ace Think Tank thread for detailed instructions. After you do that, Venom DHD will work for your phone, as will all ROMs in the DHD and Inspire 4G forums.

I strongly advise that you do not use a video. AAHK comes with an extremely clear, detailed manual; if you read it thoroughly and make sure you understand it, you won't have any problems at all.

i second that. i cannot stress the importance of thoroughly reading the 'effen maunel'.
there is no 'official' htc provided ics and sense 4/.1 rom for the htc desire hd. however, developers have managed to port these roms from other devices, as well as includeing additional features. the aahk will make your phone rooted and s-off. if you are on android 2.3.5(and maybe others, in not sure) it will run twice, first to downgrade the software, and then to root and s-off.
personally, my favourite sense 4.1 rom is sabsa prime(very very stable and some nice additional functionality).
it's probably a good idea to read a bit about how to use a custom recovery and flash roms etc
