I'm using Mr.x's synergy kernel and 2.3.6 and it's working well.

Using faux's 0.06r2 kernel and it is silky smooth and amazing on 2.3.6

Any kernel with loop devices allowed?

I want Ubuntu on my phone but can't find a kernel that works.

it doesn't installs.installation aborted.maybe its installation package was made only for xperia devices.

Chain fire worked for me... no kernel programming, just the root binary is installed.... simple and easy to do via Odin
