[Q] Who pushes the OTA with an unlocked stock phone? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I'm thinking of buying a GS3 really soon, but I want to make sure I get the best model version of this phone. I'm currently with fido and don't want to switch carriers. My initial instinct would be to buy the rogers version, but am reading that they are pushing back their JB update (they did this with my captivate years ago I hate rogers for updates). I also see that bell has released theirs. I'm just curious if I bought a bell gs3 and unlocked it to work with fido, would I still receive the OTAs from bell? Or would they come from rogers due to fido using Rogers networks? Also, what problems could you for see with me using a bell gs3 on the fido/rogers network?
Thanks in advance

No matter which GS3 you have fido will no send you an update cause they don't carry that phone....
So the only way to get the update is once avail get one of your friends to lend you his sim from Rogers,Bell or Telus... then when it's avail let the OTA install and configure....shut down and put back your Fido sim card and boot up...and thats it...
Or Just wait for are Great Dev's here and they will have much better JB roms to get on your GS3...

[Q] Sim card on Telus Desire HD

One stupid question. Can I put a different Sim card in the Telus Desire HD out of the box? I will try to buy one directly from the Telus website, and I won't be using it in Canada, so do I need to activate it or something before I can use it with a different type of sim card?
It's amazing how hard it is to get a new phone with the right 3G bands!! In my country the only 3G bands available are 850/1900, just like AT&T, so the Desire HD will be the next best thing after the Nexus One.
Thanks for your help.
Yes, mine was bought unlocked, and works perfectly with At&t. Telus version, of course. I can answer any other questions you might have.
Thanks for your help. You got the AT&T 3G bands working then? And how did you get yours? Because the Telus website won't send phones outside Canada. Mabey Ebay is an option.
And also, I've heard that it's easy to root the phone using unrevoked, and maybe that way you can use some kind of flavor of Gingerbread. Maybe CM7.
Thanks for your help.
I got it from here: http://negrielectronics.com/htc-desire-hd-ace-sense-850-1900-3gblack-unlocked.html
I pre-ordered it Dec. 29th, and forgot about it completely. I was going to get the At&t version, but they sent a email saying it already shipped!
Either way, I haven't rooted it yet b/c people have been saying that they've lot sound with the s-off method. I probably will when more people are successful
Thank you. I will consider that site. And I agree with you, it's better to wait until the root process is reliable.
Thanks for your help.

I too did the same and it works just fine. I am curious about my plan though. I still have the unlimited Data plan. I had the Captivate and got an iPhone 4 in trade for something. I switched to it until the Nexus came out.
I had to call AT&T and have them change my plan so that the iPhone would get data. When I got my Nexus I just put the sim in an adapter and have service with Data. Interestingly my phone shows up as a Captivate again at the AT&T website. Anyone familiar with AT&T plans to tell me what plan I should be on now?

Straight talk At&t Sim + Tmobile Note 2

Just wanted to make sure.. but from what I've gathered here I can buy a tmobile Note 2.. unlock it .. throw in my Straight talk At&t sim .. update APN settings and be rolling as good as I would with an official At&t Note 2 which won't be released till the 9th of Nov.
Just want to verify this cuz I really want to go to tmobile tomorrow and pick one of these up... just didn't want to regret it because of lack of radios and coverage ...
any feedback would be fantastic!
not sure you about straighttalk freq. i know simple mobile will work http://www.trysimplemobile.com/ im going to just use the 100mins 5gb from tmob for awhile, now i just need wendsday to roll in!!!!

You will be all set. I have been using my att, straight talk prepaid card for a few days. When I went online to request my unlock code, I had to choose the 7100 international version - there was no option for the T-Mobile version. The unlock code worked fine though.
Does anyone know if rooting the Tmobile Note II also unlocks it, or do I need to do something more to unlock this device for use with Straight Talk?
Rooting and unlocking are two diferent things
But you don't get LTE. I know this becuase that's what it is on nine on at&t

Straight talk doesn't offer that service.

[Q] I can't get T-mobile to work..

I'm giving my incredible 2 to my friend who has T-mobile and i flashed cm9 global because it's a gsm default rom and it won't connect to any network i tried putting in the T-mobile apns and they won't show up, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Did you have the sim unlocked with Verizon before you left their service?
I still have there service i just upgraded phones and i gave my inc2 to one of my friends and no i haven't got it unlocked..

You'll need to call global support and get the unlock code for your sim.
Aye, but I'm not sure Verizon's policy on unlocking the SIM on an unactivated phone. You may have to activate the Inc2 again before they will unlock it.
Maybe someone else knows the policy more and can chime in...

They will unlock one phone per year, shouldn't have to activate it. Please let me know if you can get hspa+ on it once you've done it... For the life of me, I cant get mine to work.
I'm having a similar problem with an Incredible 2 for a friend. Flashed CM9. He was unlocked already, so he can get phone, but not data. I'll write up a post about it, but I'm still interested in this thread.

My girlfriend has my old inc2 and she is with tmobile. I just paid one of those sites 10$ for a unlock code and entered in tmobile's apn's and it has data. But with the inc2 being cdma radios and tmobile uses gsm it will only get edge "2g" connection.
I recently unlocked 2 Inc2s in anticipation of moving them to t-mobile. They were both out of contract but still activated, and my first call to global support ended with the woman telling me, bluntly, that Verizon doesn't unlock phones period. I had been telling her that we intended to give them to family members who weren't on Verizon after we upgrade to new phones. No dice.
Not being one to give up, I waited a few minutes, called back and said that we would be traveling to Europe and wanted to be able to use our phones on a local carrier while we were there. No problem, I was given the 2 unlock codes immediately.
So if/when you call, that's probably the best story to use. As soon as they hear that the phones will be going to another carrier, they have no incentive to help.
Ok i finally got the unlock code for it and i was running viper 1.20 and it told me to use the code so i put it in and it said invalid code so i returned to the stock rom and now i don't know what to do, like i don't know where to put the code in at..
Nevermind guys i finally got it unlocked and T-mobile is working fine on it

[Q] Question about Rooting

Good evening,
I am not sure if I am putting this in the right spot but here goes.....
I have a Galaxy SIII that was on t-mobile but is now unlocked and on ATT. I had to go back to stock to do this which stunk.....but since I am now on ATT can I re root my phone again, or will that mess up my SIM with ATT?? Since it isn't an ATT phone and just on the ATT network with their SIM I didnt want to brick my phone messing with it but want to ditch all the bloat. Thanks....
