[Q] Samsung GALAXY Note 2 - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently had a new Samsung GALAXY Note 2, l loved the updated S Note. However, I noticed that when I wanted to change the type of pen and the type of colour, I tapped it with my S Pen, it took a very VERY long time to give the menu, is there a problem, or it's normal?

For me it is. I found that long pressing instead of tapping made it seem faster lol. Mainly because most of the waiting time is taken up by holding the pen to screen haha

Yep it takes a lot of time, S Note is acutally very slow app, if you dont close it it even slows quadrant benchmark by 2000-3000 points, just by having it opened in the backround, super slow sometimes, it needs some modifying

Thank You All.
Thanks to all who helped me .

S pen Test

Today I went to a sprint store inside Concord Mall just to test the S pen and was very disappointed. I even dream about this phone but thank god

That's not giving this awesome phone a fair shake though.
People beat the stuffing out of those store models. Trust me, if you get this phone you will not be disappointed.

I have had absolutely no problems with the S Pen. In fact my wife is an Industrial Designer, and said that the Pen isnt too far behind her WACOM and programs she uses for work. slight lag, but nothing to lose sleep over. for me the S Pen is almost a novelty.

The reason I was soo critical about it is because I need it to take note in class and always have it with me when I need to study.
i dont think a phone/tablet/any electronic device could ever replace pen/paper when it comes down to class and taking notes...not even a laptop. our brains learn best when we write things out, not just type them up and to take tons of class notes on a 5.55" screen is just silly...anyway, my s-pen was initially too sensitive and would register screen taps at times when I would only be hovering. following a fix in some thread, I probably love my phone more than all my other devices combined :good:
Theres a known issue with the s-pen and magnets. Mine works great.

Guys - at the Sprint store the pen did not work for me AT ALL - the guys at the desk said "yeah, its not good - buy an iPhone 5 this thing sucks" - i bought it anyway, it works fine... CONFIRMING that at 3 stores I went to in order to find stock in Las Vegas, this was a problem and that with my device - no such problem.

While I do agree that paper and pen are the best, I actually saw a girl in my organic chemistry class who took all her notes on her iPad. She drew structures and wrote formulas with a cheap, standard capacitive stylus, typed out whatever she could type out, and took pictures of slides and a pasted them into her notes. I'm not sure what program she used, but it was quite impressive to say the least. Of course, I think it requires learning the programs inside and out and making sure you can use them efficiently.
I have a Nexus 7 and a Galaxy Note II and wouldn't use either one to replace a notebook and a good mechanical pencil. I'm also not motivated enough to try though either lol.
If you're gonna take notes, just do a Bluetooth keyboard... makes more sense.

Yea but there are some classes where you can't type everything? How do you draw a structure or diagram with a keyboard?

There is a great app called handrite in the market and it lets you type and draw in the same file as well as import pictures. I use it in meetings on my Xoom.

Cool features. ./ general talk

I want to say hello note family! This phone is already my favorite phone. Also I like to have a thread where ppl can ask questions about anything and talk about everything. I personally like to talk about lil this I find and share them with others. So we dont blow up threads on dev section and have a million threads on things that have been answered.
So to start it off, I found that the note 2 has low light feature witch makes photos look great!!!
Same phone flash.. had galaxy s3 didn't have that feature. Thought it was cool

That will def come in handy, esp these uppoming winter months when we're all pretty much stuck inside! Inside/dark photo-taking=always a challenge.
One of the hand gestures I saw on a video that I didn't know was there is pretty cool. Basically if you have it active, while your phones on your desk or at a table, you can wave your hand over the headset and it will turn on part of the screen(most the top half) and slowly dim over a few seconds. Basically used for taking a quick peak at missed calls/text/notifications.

Cool video feature

I took this from the t mobile note 2 forum...
Ever touched the screen on your video while watching it by mistake? Happened to me all the time on my og note. On the note2 if you press the power button the screen locks and continues to play the video.

Just tried it and it locked the screen. While watching movie!
Also noticed that vol is on the right, brightest on the left just by sliding your finger on the screen

Should I return it?

Just got my note 2 & noticed a small discoloration in the volume button as shown in the picture.
Everything is working perfectly
Is it worth the return?

If it doesn't really require lots of hassle, i would ask for a swap.
If I bought it at a store, I would return it.
It will definitely go back first thing in the morning as I just found that the theft side of the screen is waaaay to unresponsive to the spen.
Thank you guys.

Holy crapola that sucks! I was gonna say (before I read all the way down) that I'm so anal with my stuff that I'd return it in a heartbeat. Now that I see the sensitivity issue I'd obviously return it like you did. Hopefully that doesn't ruin your opinion of the Note 2 though, because it's a truly awesome phone! I've had mine for a few weeks now and I don't know what I'd do without it anymore!

Well, I'm a huge fan of the note concept & I know that Samsung's quality control is very very good but sometimes you get a lemon & you have to deal with it.
I guess I'm just fortunate I never have these issues....how did you purchase in store. ...yet its later outside the store you notice something you SHOULD have noticed at time of purchase.............doesn't everyone inspect their device prior to paying and leaving. As far as the s-pen issues people should adjust their settings mines works just fine you have to tweak the sensitivity to your own UNIQUE handwriting style

bipoler: Sometimes new gadget owners fall victim to the so-called Gollum syndrome: their eyes enlarge, their skintone dulls and greys out, and their cognitive functions are diminished. It can last from a few minutes to a few days, and only the worse failures can stop the symptoms quickly, more subtle defects take longer.

Well I got my unit online from timo's website. Once I got the device 18 hours later it was on its way back. The spen issue is not just a less sensitive area... its a deadzone which the device just does not register anything.

[Q] is this part suppose to make a clicking sound?

i bought me the samsung galaxy note 2 about a month ago and recently i noticed when i press on the part on top next to the headphones port it makes a clicking sound as it something is not in place. i removed the back cover and pressed again it still clicks. i dont know for sure if it is a problem or not but it is really annoying me.
i cant return the phone for a new one because it passed the 14 days return policy in my country but it is still under warranty status.
im worried about one thing if i send it there that they might open the phone to fix it and i dont want an open phone
so can somebody an expert in these things can tell me if it is ok to leave it like this or should i get it fixed.
I just tested this out of mine and heard the clicking. I'm sure its not supposed to but the phone is creaky in general, guess it's just a trade off you have to accept when owning the best phone in the world.

He is talking about the upper bezel.
That click is because of the double tap the bezel to return to the top of a list (in contacts or messages etc).. It's a setting from motion settings.

Both my note 2 phones from hantec had this issue. Two of my friends with the at&t version do not.
My handtec phones also had the gap issue between the frame. My friends phones do not.
I dont buy phones from hantec anymore. The replacement for my note 2 was sent with open box. They told my to piss off when I complained.

I must have a lemon then, because my phone (AT&T Note II) doesn't have any squeeks, rattle, chinks or bumps.
