I am having issues connecting to wireless using my Galaxy Nexus. I have tried connecting to 3 different WPA2 networks with the same results. All are configured to use WPA2. Each time, I get the following series of events that show up underneath the SSID:
- Authenticating
- Saved
- Connecting
- Authenticating
- Authentication problem
I haven't tried fiddling with the settings of my home or mobile hotspot as I feel it should connect to WPA2 without any problems. Any suggestions?
Are you trying to connect to a 2.4 or 5Ghz?
I was experiencing something similar but only when trying to connect to 5Ghz.
I solved the problem by switching security from WPA2-TKIP to WPA2-AES.

To be honest, I am not sure if its 5GHz or not. I would assume my Nexus One would be broadcasting on the 2.5GHz frequency, but I could be wrong. I'll check when I get home and test that setting change.
Hello,
I cannot connect to my AP on 5 Ghz
It sees it, it asks for password, but then disconnect and reconnect endlessly
Any idea why
Cheers.
One X does not support 5GHz wifi. I see only 2.4GHz in official spec
Oups, I thought it could as i can see it
Switch your router to 2.4, and it will work
I thought it was 2.4ghz only cos of the specification too but i can connect to my 5ghz frequency on my Netgear WNDR3700.
I can see and connect to my Netgear 5Ghz WNDR4500 no problem at all.
You guys can tell me what parameters do you use for your 5ghz ?
Thanks.
My router is fairly new, just bought it 2 months ago. I didnt change any of the settings, just plug & play. Even didnt change the router password.
The problem is with Linksys router's wireless .
even in my house we used to have a Linksys router , kept on disconnected when over 3 devices are connected to it , keeps on disconnected every 2-3 minutes really.
changed the router , and everything is smooth now

WIFI Channel 44
WPA2 AES encryption
Up to 300 Mbps speed setting
5Ghz a/n network types.
That's all the settings that i've configured, although it works out of the box with stock netgear settings too.......

I have seen some places (specs) where is doesn't show the 5GHz, but the phone supports it.
Not able to connect with 5Ghz WiFi AP

I have tried to double check this spec on the HTC offical website and it does indicate this phone supports WiFi 5Ghz, as it is with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n
htc.com/us/products/htconex-att#tech-specs
however, i have tried to link with a DLink router, DIR-857, and it sees the 2.4Ghz SSID and could connect without any problem, however, not able to see 5Ghz SSID though, i have also tried to set no security and with different channels but seems not have any lucky to this.
i am wondering is there any particular setting to the phone or router double checked with customer service but seem not really help, only ask me to change and try with another AP or router.....
I'm connected to my 802.11a AP with no problems at all. Ditto for 802.11g. I don't have 802.11n here so no idea if that affects it or not.
I didn't need to do anything special on the phone. The AP is a Cisco AP1242AG and it has the usual configuration with WPA2-PSK.

i found out the GN do not compatibility with some netgear wireless router...the issue is wifi disconnect after screen lock..i have netgear wireless router model:WNR612V2 and wndr3800..both of them have same issue with my GN..i also have other dlink/tp-link/asus wireless router...and they work fine with my gn....i tried recovery factory setting...also tried flash 4.0.4 and 4.1.1 android version...still same issue... anybody has same issue like me? or found out how to fix it?..TKS for any help...and forgive me poor english...TKS a lot!...
No issues with wndr3700 here.
On your gnex, go to setting gas, WiFi, then press the menu button go to advanced and check the WiFi sleep policy. Make sure it's set always on "keep WiFi on during sleep"
Galaxy Nexus GSM
Have wnr 1000, works perfectly...

already set "always on"...never change from got GN...so i don't understand why i got this issue with all my netgear router...my dlink/tp-link works fine...but they all broken...thats why i replace them to netgear...:crying:
One quick thing to look at, that seems to pop up now and then, what's your DHCP lease set to? Setting to '0' (that should be forever) doesn't work as well for some chipsets it appears. If you just have bad luck getting/keeping a lock on your router, try changing the dhcp to something else, 2 weeks ish? Play with it.
Might be something else entirely, but after having seen this 3 times now, it's worth a bash.

TKS for replay...seems netgear wndr3800 not allow change the dhcp lease set...there are not option about dhcp lease set...and as my custom...i have set the gn as a static ip...so it may not be effect to the dhcp lease set...both wnr612 v2 or wndr3800...all of them not have option to set dhcp lease...
What type of connection are you using on the wndr3800?
2.4ghz, 5ghz?
And what channel, since you have two routers, make sure they're on different channels and opposite, set one to 1 and the other 11 or 6.
Also what type of security? wep? wpa2?
Try using 2.4ghz, i found the 5ghz isn't very strong/good with gnex.
Also you can try with NO security and see if it works better.
...
worse comes to worse, reset your wndr3800 back to default and regular dhcp no static, no custom settings for anything and go no security on wifi or go wep.
...
Also, since you have 2 routers, you have them set so that only 1 is doing the dhcp and the other is turned off right? you can't have 2 routers doing dhcp.

i have 3 netgear router..2xWNR612v2..1xWNDR3800... 3800 is a host router...612 connect to 3800 via wire...because there is low signal in the corner of my house..so i use wds to make it stronge...but 3800 only support no/wep to Encryption...and 612 can use wpa/wpa2..and i set the 612 in channel 1...3800 can support auto select the best channel...i used wifi Analysis software to check the channel...in many time...3800 used different channel...so i think it isn't the reason for this issue..i tried independent test every router..got same issue...:crying:
Always worked fine with my 2.4ghz 802.11g (can't remember model#) Netgear router. Never had issues with other routers too.

i worked round it by not using DHCP on the phone, change it to manual setting and assign an IP (or keep the current setting) to the device (long press on your connected wifi, then choose modify; for some reason adding new connection only accept DHCP by default). need to do that at the router end as well, edit the lan setting and record the phone MAC address to that IP. someone on another thread mentioned, if my memory serves me right, that GNex can have wifi issue with some routers' DHCP setting, causing it to drop connection when new lease was issued, and this is the reason why i choose not to use DHCP.
TKS,I try it…hope it can work…

Gnex takju stock + Netgear WNDR3700 (running DD-WRT) WPA2 PSK = Total failure to connect.
It was fine with ICS, but since the OTA it will not work despite trying every setting and factory reset.
it may cause by DD-WRT…i use netgear stock fireware…never try any 3rd fireware…

I tried your suggestion, unfortunately, issue still…in my friend's coffe shop just now…gn wifi works fine with his tplink wireless router…received any push message/email fast under screen lock…so i still believe the issue cause by netgear router…or the setting with it…
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
seem i found out why this issue comes....
the GN can connect to all dlink/tp-link wireless router and never disconnect after screen lock...so i check the advance wirelees setting about three sets include netgear.dlink and tplink...i found the netgear has a few option you can set about advance wireless setting...the other two router have very detail setting about wireless...read the help text...i found the beacon peroid may cause this issue...default value is 100...so i tried to increase the value to 200..oops...the gn disconnect the wifi...and i can't receive any data...just like the email sync, weather sync, and google play push soft install...then i decrease the value to default..the wifi work fine,i can receive any data under the screen lock...then i continue decrease the value to 50/20..nice...no any issue...so i believe is the beacon peroid cause this issue...but the question is the netgear never has a option to let me change the bacon peroid value...so i will connect to the factory...hope they can fix it in the near future...
attachment: what is the beacon peroid
beacons are packets sent by a wireless router to synchronize wireless devices...specify a beacon period value between 20 and 1000 the default value is set to 100 milliseconds...

My main router is my FiOS router, that does all the DHCP, I have one of the ports plugged into my WNDR3700's port (not WAN port), I use the WNDR3700 for all WIFI devices.
I have DHCP turned off on the WNDR3700
Basic Wireless Settings
Both 2.4GHz b/g/n and 5GHz a/n I have SSID broadcast on, and set to Up to 300Mbps.
2.4GHz set to Channel 03, and 5GHz set to channel 36
I use WPA2-PSK [AES] for both radios.
In Advance Wireless Settings, it's all default.
Both 2.4GHz and 5GHz are the same:
Fragmentation Length: 2346
CTS/RTS Threshold: 2347
Preamable Mode: Automatic
Transmit Power Control: 100%
That's it, I do have MAC Address Filtering too, but that shouldn't matter.
Again, everything else is default.

Bought brand new I9195 and it only connects to 2.4Ghz, and would not connect to 5Ghz wifi.
We had I9190 and it was connecting to N 5Ghz wifi just fine. My S3 still connects to N 5Ghz fine, all PCs connect to 5Ghz fine, and only speakers connected to 2.4Ghz.
Anybody know what is the problem might be?
Phone have been updated to latest official version of software (via settings menu) and still no 5Ghz connection. Tried before update and still no connection.
need help please.

I've got the same problem. Anyone an idea to fix this
Tnx
Go into the router settings, and select a different 5 GHz channel. Most likely a lower one will work.
Thank you, it works now
Hi!!
I just bought a new tab s4, and I can not connect it to the 5ghz wifi network. It connects, but says connected without internet. The 2.4GHz network connects perfectly.
PS. Sorry for my English.
Same issue.
My tablet is TIM branded.
Same issue, it connects on 2.4ghz but not on 5ghz...
Anyone?
HI peep's mine is connected to 5 GHz and it’s working flawlessly, it’s showing a connected speed of 866MBPS!
Quick questions, did you try a reboot router and Tab S4 once connected to 5GHZ ?
Also are you using separate WPA2 PSK key ?
As some routers can’t handle separate keys, keep the Wi-Fi key same for both channels i.e 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ!
Does it get ip address from the router/dhcp server you have?
I don't have access to a 5Ghz wifi right now. Next week I'll try the tablet and I'll try everything you said. If the new tablet has the same problem of course, I hope it goes well.

See below and bands i have Separate bands!
Galaxy-Tab-S4
dual stack
Galaxy-Tab-S4
device info type 5 GHz
IP address: 000.000.0000 (DHCP)
MAC address: 77:EE:00:FFD:00
I have the same problem and I noticed that it came with the Anroid Pie update! 2,4G is working fine in my S4.
I have another tablet Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition and 5G Wifi is working flawlessly.
Might it be software issue in Android 9?
My basebandversion is T835XXU3BSF4, kernel 4.4.153-16124683 #2 Fri Jun 14 2019.
My Tab S4 was ,finally, updated to Android 9. 5GHz working fine. Both 5GHz and 2.4GHz working fine...
All good here...
I got one coming in the mail and will report back on my success but if you don't get internet trying setting your dns manually to Google's public one for testing. 8.8.8.8 Could also be related to the channel the router is using for 5ghz.
Malcolm
Okay, so I got a new tab s4, and I have the same problem. At the second floor of my house, I don't connect to the 5Ghz wifi. I have separated bands. I tried changing the channel... I don't know what else try.

5GHz WiFi has less range than 2.4GHz, maybe the signal strength is not enough at the second level. Use the lowest frequency band available, move the base unit to a place less obstructed etc. This does not sound like a device issue.

Yeah, I know, the device issue is that all my other phones, computers and devices are able to connect to the wifi. I enabled the smart wifi and it looks like it's going better, the tablet is able to get better download speed.
