Hello.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 with T-Mobile. I broke it when flashing something. I was not worried because I thought as long as I had access to the download mode I could recover. Problem is it seems the firmware I used to recover, is not the one that came with the phone because it doesn't work perfectly (ie. The stock SMS app fails, the keyboard swiping fails and I cannot connect to Kies).
I want Jellybean but I can't connect to Kies to look for updates so I've tried two OTA updates with clockwork recovery and both failed with some sort of assertion check.
Here's the phone information:
Model number: GT-I9300
Android Version: 4.0.4
Baseband version: 19300BVLH1
Build number: IMM76D.I9300XXBLG8
When I try to install GT-I9300_I9300XXDLI7-OTA-I9300XXBLH3_NEE_277179738:
Code:
assert failed: file_getprop("system/build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint") == "samsung/m0xx/m0:4.0.4/IMM76D/I9300XXBLH3:user/release-keys" || file_getprop("system/build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint") == "samsung/m0xx/m0:4.1.1/JR003C/I9300XXDLI7:user/release-keys"
So can I install Jellybean? Can I at least get the correct firmware so that the keyboard swiping will work (Samsung stock keyboard) and I can connect to Kies? I have no idea what firmware that is because I thought I chose the correct one since it was labeled as the T-mobile firmware, but it wont work fully.
Thanks for any answers.
PS: I've tried other swiping keyboards but I actually like the stock Samsung one and regardless I still want to be able to connect to Kies and ideally I want Jellybean.
TMO updates will fail, because you have an International Version (I9300), not the TMO version (T999). You will need the appropriate forum and Stock Rom Archive threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1563
I suspect you'll need Odin to return to stock, and begin your JB upgrade processes from there. Good luck!
Your phone models number is international G3 and T-Mobile T999
Kies will failed. Firmware is different... I thought international have jellybean already.

OK thanks very much. I'll look around. This is odd because my plan is with T-mobile, so that's why I'm confused. So T-mobile uses I9300 and T999? Why? What's the difference? Is the T999 the 4G one? I've double checked on the back of my phone and it's definitely I9300.
Sorry for the confusion.

No worries, it *is* confusing...indeed, here is a chart which helps distinguish all the different models of this unit:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756332
You have Quad-core, and I believe 21mbps '4G', whereas TMO T999 version has Dual-core, but 42mbps '4G'....but you can always run speedtests and report back the speed you're getting. I was happy with HSPA+ on my Sensation, but even happier with DC-HSPA+.
And please don't ever flash anything else you find here!
I'm a little surprised you didn't hard brick! They are very different, not just hardware but SW as well. Completely different partition layouts.
when people flash an international rom to the T999, they get a paperweight in rerurn! Just fyi!

As of right now, the roms for your S3 are not meant to be used on other S3 variants. Bricks might happens or a soft one might happen. Before flashing a Rom make sure you are in the right development section an you read the entire op, twice. Until other devs or experienced users find a way to make them cross compatible, please refrain from using other carriers S3 roms.
Also wind mobile an Tmobile are interchangeable, just don't flash the modems.
ONLY FLASH THE ROMS IN THIS FORUM!

I second this, guys PLEASE don't risk it. It is not worth it. Right now I think most devs are working on their own ROMs, but we should have a patch soon to allow cross-compatibility.
think some peeps are confused by whats before tmo development. (AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III) just my opinion but good idea on thread.
Mr Highway:
Could you start another thread for Windmobile Android Development?
In the past all Windmobile phones are just T-mobile phone rebadge.
In this case, it does not in terms of kernels....(and may be baseband)
I am working on this so that all roms will work on all carriers

i want to be in this AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III - xda-developers thread for everything correct ?
and not in the Samsung Galaxy S III I9300 thread ?
I keep seeing posts about ROMs that can work on these variants of galaxy S3s. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the ROMs supposed to be specific to GSM or CDMA? When I flashed windows based roms on my touch pro II, that was one of the things to look out for. Is it possible to create a ROM for all carriers?

Yes and no.
With the use of aroma-installer, we could set it up to detect your phone type (well, not we....I don't know that much about it but I saw the thread discussing this) and aroma would be able to install the necessary files based on your phone.
As of now, for instance, mine works across all GSM carriers. clark44 is current working to get everything switched up so it also works for Sprint (mostly appears to be the apk files and XML files) that are specific to the phone. As of now, he has it booting and working fine except there is a large rush of FCs on initial bootup but then everything runs fine.
I wasn't even aware you could make a patch to allow cross-compatibility! XDA never fails to surprise
Just a thought, but maybe they could do it like the SlimROM on multiple devices. He has a common base ROM and another flashable for each device supported. It works out perfectly and multiple ROMs for multiple carriers.
I figure it will be easier than doing it for different devices since I read that all the US variants are essentially the same. Not sure but worth a look.
link to the ROM: http://www.slimroms.com/
I use it for the Vibrant

Will there ever be any SGH-T999V development?
Does anyone think that someone with a SGH-T999V Wind Mobile variant will ever be able to root their phone so they can overclock the cpu, etc?
Why not? I am using a custom rom and overclocked to 1890 at the moment.
Just use the windows way to root. I knbow it works
I have not tried the toolkit.
If you are going to flash a custom rom just make sure it does not contain the boot, modem and amss file in the rom that you are flashing.

I'm more curious as to what exactly the differences are between the 2 variants (i.e. t999 vs t999v). What could possibly make them so different from each other that ROMs from tmobile wouldn't work on wind GS3?
What if you accidentally tried to flash i9300 rom and your phone is not turning on.
With the forums changed I accidentally flashed the wrong version rom on my phone. :crying:

Thanks for the link, unfortunately the phone will not go into download mode for odin, it won't even turn on.
After doing some research it looks like I have to fix it through jtag.
I think I could do it, but you need some expensive jtag box that connects to the computer(It's called the Riff Box), but it would be cheaper if I just sent my phone into here it costs $60. Not ideal, but not a complete disaster either. Unless there is some other way to JTAG I am out of options.

Hi all. I've royally screwed up my wife's AT&T, American Samsung Galaxy S3. I need the factory ROM. I really need help with this one guys. I won't go into all the details of what I messed up, but suffice to say I know I can fix it if I can just find the factory ROM for this phone. I'll then use Odin to reflash, and all will be well. So can anyone help me out with a link to the factory, stock ROM for an ATT Galaxy S3?

I've never heard that. I always thought that if you have an American ATT Galaxy S3, then that's the only model you need to worry about. Are there sub-models or something? How do I determine what ROM goes with my model?

Hello guys, sorry if this is a noob question for you Sammy guys (I'm more used to Nexus devices), but I was wondering if it is possible to update the baseband version on this device? More specifically, I was wondering if I could update to an international radio/modem? If not, does anyone know where to find the latest radios for each device. I tried searching but only could come up with an older thread for the version I already have (MDL). On my Nexus One and HTC One S we could flash any baseband we wanted, international or carrier release. Thanks!

No.
Do not flash any radio other than the ones made for your device. At best it won't boot. At worst it won't let you Odin back to the correct radio and it will never boot.

Yeah but a new modem update by itself will probably never be a super improvement. So you probably aren't missing out on much.
Its not like an updated modem will let you talk to the Moon or something.

Spot on. Apparently, T-Mo is supposed to release their 4.3 update early to mid November (consult General Section for source). Then and only then would we be able to use a 4.3 TW ROM without cell network wonking out like a drunk. Hopefully T-Mobile could be at least 1/3rd useful this time and actually push out an update for once.. (you can feel my hatred towards carriers...... =.=).
EDIT: SOURCE THREAD, towards the last few pages starts the talk of the rumored T-Mo Nov. release.

There is no M919 Tmobile 4.3 dump.
That's the problem, the only dump and the flashable zipfile rom
available as of yet is for the international versions of the S4's.
Flashing an international version of the 4.3 rom into our M919
phones even if it worked properly we would be losing wifi calling
and most like the LTE feature plus who knows what else.
You are wrong there is a t mobile4.3 dump for very long posted in general section : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2478553
Sent from my SGH-M919V using Tapatalk 4
We CAN run the TW 4.3 ROMs and have full LTE as normal (except for Wi-Fi calling b/c that's a T-Mo specific feature), the only issue is that data randomly cuts in and out. I don't understand how I could run AOSP 4.3 with no issues but 4.3 TW gives problems...
The thing is, only us T-Mo users have data issues, not the international or any other carrier. So it MUST be the radio version that is the cause of the problems, which is why we must wait for T-Mo to finally release an update...
Has anyone dare to flash international MJ5, JM6 modem? I mean our bootloader is unlock right? If it don't work can we just flash back our old modem? Just a thought.

Im new to this part of XDA, I just recently purchased a Galaxy S3 T999L.
Purchasing this phone, I had no idea there was a non LTE Model which leads me in a bit of confusion when looking for a custom Rom
Im no rookie when it comes to flashing. If you look Below in my sig you can see the devices I currently have and have flashed different roms many times in the past. My question is what ROMs will work with my T999L? Ive looked and to my confusion have seen more for the T999 than anything since its been around much longer.. I've been looking and the forum here is a bit fragmented and its hard to see which ROM will go to which device. Please forgive me for my ignorance, Im just trying to play catch up, and perhaps contribute in the future in some way.
Edit: Im more familiar with flashing Tablets than phones, I dont have much experience with flashing radios and other phone related stuff...Is there a Difference with T999 and T999L other than the Radio?
edit 2: No comments? I guess either i said the wrong thing, or I posted in the wrong forum..
Thank you in advance
The t-999 ROMs will work with your t-999l, except the 4.3 touchwiz ROMs for the moment. 4.3 aosp/cm/aokp is fine.. There's really not much difference between the two, except the t-999l was updated to support lte.. Do not flash a t-999 modem to your t-999l, it won't brick but it won't pick up service at all. I suggest looking at the t-999l and t-999n q&a thread for further info

Thanks for your input
Don't mean to hi-jack this thread but it kind of pertains the the question. I have the T999L as well. I've read Doc's informational thread about the T999L and T999N.
In terms of this part:
"ONLY flash T999L firmware to a T999L and T999N firmware to a T999N!!!!
If it does not match your model EXACTLY, it will almost certainly brick your device!!!"
I keep reading I can safely flash T999 roms, kernels, etc. But it's the firmware process that confuses me. Should I only stick to 4.1.2 roms (can I even flash Jamison's 4.1.1 rom for example), or can I flash a 4.3 TW rom in the future, assuming the leaked builds get LTE support when the official update comes out?
Thanks in advance.

If that's true then how come the T999L wasn't updated to 4.3 alongside the T999? The 4.1.2 software wasn't even the same. No multi-window, no Note 2 photo gallery, still rockin the old "My Files" app on the T999L 4.1.2 software.....At first I thought it was just the "LTE Radio" difference but I guess there's more to it seeing the differences in software.

Firmware refers to the files used in Odin, so for those, make sure you use the ones for your device only. You can flash any ROM, even 4.1.1 I believe.. And yes once there's a leaked 4.3 firmware for the t999l you should be able to just flash the modem and then flash a 4.3 tw ROM, based on what we experienced with the t999

Thanks a lot for this. Been bugging me for a while now. I'll probably take the plunge soon and use "The Recovery Way." Rooted my first S3 using motochopper back in June or July when I first got it, but problems arose and exchanged it at Costco (just got it and WiFi wouldn't connect after a factory reset). Been scared since lol. Also scared me that I wouldn't receive official updates anymore as it said it was modified, but that doesn't bug me anymore reading all the complaints about the whole no turning back.
Thanks again!
I'm looking into flashing a custom ROM onto my T999L for the first time as well...have any of you guys taken the plunge yet, and have any feedback on specific ROMS? I think I will try with AOKP

SGH-M919 is the T-Mobile variant, so it should be no problem.
The easiest way to go back to stock is to use KIES, but that will revert you back to V.
You can download stock and flash with ODIN. As long as it is stock T-Mobile and you have a T-Mobile account, WiFi calling will work fine.

OK I tried ODIN 3.09 with firmware version M919UVUFNB4 which is 4.4.2 and it failed with a bootloader permission error
I already have 4.4.2 on the phone but its the Nextel Firmware
I read something about installing modem.bin is that my problem?

No, the modem wouldn't be your problem. Since you are already updated to the official 4.4.2, you now have KNOX to worry about. If you don't care about setting the 0x1 flag, your best bet would more than likely be to flash a custom recovery and a modded/stock ROM specifically for the M919 from the Android Development section. You keep mentioning that you have a Nextel device... just to confirm, you have a T-Mobile SIM, correct? Because if not, WiFi calling won't work for you anyway.
Yup, I have a T-mobile account and the phone has a T-mobile SIM in it
I don't think that KNOX flag is an issue as it is an unlocked Non T-mobile phone.
If I have an issue with the phone at all T-mobile is not going to support it.
The model phone I have apparently is exactly the same as the T-mobile branded phone, when I registered it with Samsung they identify it as a T-mobile phone.
I guess I could just get a 1900MHZ repeater and call it a day as well.

You could, I guess... but I would be willing to bet that it would be a lot cheaper to just get WiFi calling working
Like I said, you'll probably have to forget going the Odin route and use a custom recovery and modded/stock T-Mobile TouchWiz ROM.
First of All I want to say sorry for poting this query in Another thread, really don't want to create another thread Can I install ROMs from Tmobile section to my i9505 (international Variant)? There're loads of great ROMs here wanna try some of them..but bit afraid to brick the device, even though both devices shares same hardware...just want to confirm from you people

T-mobile TouchWiz ROM.. Is that stable?
I'm not interested in constantly flashing the phone to get the bug fixes ...
I'd give a stable ROM a try so is that the one to go with?

Yeah, most every ROM posted in the development section is stable, TouchWiz or AOSP. Just make sure you read the OP to confirm that whichever ROM has WiFi calling included as there are TW ROMs which have been ported to our device from other carrier's S4s.... Only those specifically for the M919 will have WiFi calling and it will be specified in the OP. I'm not going to recommend which ROM to flash, but from someone who's tried them all... you can't make a bad decision whatever you choose.

Yes, you can. The only S4 ROMs you should stay away from are those made for the i9500 and non-standard S4's (i.e. S4 mini, S4 Active, etc). Any other variant of the standard S4 (including the i9505G) is good to go; just use a kernel for your specific device. On that note though, the i9505 and M919 kernels are interchangeable, so there's no need to follow that protocol when using our ROMs for your device and vice versa.

Thanks bro for your reply, that's great to know and gained extra 150+ ROMs thread as well really good to use great ROMS in this section
After doing some research my question:
The reason I can't use this firmware is due to the fact that my current baseband is higher than the one I was attempting to flash.
I have FNE2 and was trying to flash FNB4?
Thoughts?
Still looking to do this did anything change here? Has anyone successfully with flashing this with the stock ROM?
I'm a T- Mobile customer
Thanks
I have an unlocked Nextel version 4.42 of the SGH-M919Vzlmnx Baseband / modem / PDA version M919VWXUFNE2
