LTE Toggle? - LG Optimus G (International)

I can't seem to find a way to toggle LTE on this phone? Maybe I'm just missing it. Also funny, I'm with Rogers and they tell me that I have to get a new plan in order to get LTE. However, I'm in the city today and my phone shows LTE and it is blazing fast! It is killing the battery pretty quick. Hopefully I'm not incurring extra charges??

Under your wireless and network settings tap more and then go into Mobile Network settings at the bottom. You should have a Network Mode setting you can change unless Rogers has disabled it (it's there in my TELUS version but AT&T is known to disable it for whatever reason). Be aware that turning off LTE has led to some massive wakelocks and battery drain on the AT&T version but the Rogers one may not suffer from the same symptoms so give it a try.
Also, I'm not on Rogers but on Telus I did not have to get a new plan to get LTE. Sounds to me like they were trying to swindle a contract renewal out of you.

AT&T have disabled the option. There are a few hacks or build.prop settings to disable LTE. As I said above, be warned that some users reported massive battery drain when turning it off but that may have been resolved now that fast dormancy can be disabled. In any case, there's an AT&T LGOG forum here with more info.

missing network mode?

I just got the S3 and noticed that I am not able to switch from a 2g network to a 3g/4g on t-mobile. I go into network settings and don't see the network modes option. Any help would be great. Thanks.
Try downloading an app from the play store called phone info, should help, if not try downloading a toggle widget, hope this helps

Tried both and didn't work. Chatted with Tmobile online and the rep said that its not possible.
Actually I think I know why. on newer samsung phones like mine its not there but in future development I'm sure you will see it happen. I have the network mode now but I didn't before.

I didn't do it a rom developer did it and all it was is doing the Rodgers ROM which has network mode

Hi there, please go to bell.ca/support and search apn settings, you will probably need to add Bells LTE settings to your phone.

Are you inside a building? Bell's LTE penetration is....enough said.
Did you get LTE with stock rom? If so it could be a setting in the rom somewhere. I also have troubles with LTE when in a building (if thats the case)
I've been outside a building and still don't get lte in the kitchener Guelph area where lte is supported I also changed the settings to gsm/lte but still never see 4G on the top

Just got the confirmation yesterday that Bell have issue with their LTE network.
Go on your network setting and select WCDMA ONLY if you are able...
This is what the tech told me for my LG and since yesterday got 1 drop connection and not 10 a day!!!

I'm on Virgin Mobile Canada (Bell) and was having issues getting 4G (LTE). I believe it was posted on the CM10 thread but I reposted this as someone else was asking the same thing, but if you can't get 4G working even with the correct APN, go to your dialer and dial *#*#4636#*#*
This will take you to the phone testing menu. Tap Phone information, scroll down to the selectable list which may say CDMA or GSM/CDMA. Change that to LTE/GSM or LTE/GSM/CDMA and that should get it working again.
This worked for me on CM10, but AOKP should be close enough that this may help you out.
I'm on Att but the 9-8 build of aokp defaults to wcdma preferred on boot up..I know I live in an LTE area so what I did was *#*#4636#*#* then choose LTE only to force it into LTE coverage after that choose LTE/GSM/CDMA prl auto then or LTE should stick..for me if I chose LTE/GSM/CDMA first it would still default to wcdma...hope this helps...keep in mind you have to perform this after every reboot until its changed by task if it ever is in future builds.

Hmmm, that's interesting. On CM10, I don't need to change that on every reboot. Not even after a dirty flash. Just after a clean flash.
I had the same problem on rogers in Vancouver also running cm10 make sure you change your APN to the lte version also where it says APN type I put default. Another thing that may confuse you is that there is no lte icon on cm10 it says 4g instead

Also what might help is don't keep to many APN stored delete all except the lte and the lte tethering one. My phone was also switching to the regular APN on booting it up

Disable LTE to save battery?

I am not in an LTE market (yet), and I'm not likely to get LTE for another 3 months at least. If I switch from CDMA/LTE to CDMA in the Mobile Networks / Network mode settings, will I be saving battery?
Only one way to find out papi

I have read that you can expect minor improvements. That seems to be the consensus with Galaxy Nexus anyway.

Yes, not sure how much exactly, but turning off LTE will save battery.
The Sprint Zone app gives suggestions for saving battery life, and turning off LTE is one of them.
Someone said in another thread that it didnt make any difference. So, I dunno?
What about running in automatic mode?

Not positive it was related but my phone wouldn't boot after I changed it to CDMA from CDMA/LTE.

fix for disconnect from 3g network

For anyone having issues with getting disconnected from 3g network. If you find that you are continuously getting disconnected from the 3g network on Sprint, goto your network settings and change your preferred network setting from lte/cdma to CDMA only. That should keep you on the 3g network without having to continuously reboot all the time. It's not a problem with your Rom I think it's an issue with the lte network. Being that it may not be up and running in your town. Yes they are advertising it but it is not online across the entire country yet.

Turn on LTE

Does anyone have the link handy for the post on how to activate LTE on the Note 2 (by popping out your sim) ? I searched for it, but didnt find it for some reason.

That's not really turning on lte. I believe it was just to have LTE as a option, but it's not like it'll do you any good.
Sent from my SGH-T889
Why wouldn't do me any good if I had the option to select it? I live in Vegas they keep turning it on and off while they test it. I was at the T Mobile store today and one of the reps had their Note running on LTE.

I guess we gotta wait on a leak for this ota then. I was thinking we were ready to roll without any mods but I guess not...
There's already a person with it activated in a test device. He said it has new apns and is based on android 4.1.2, so when you see that update we will have LTE. Right now it is currently only going to be active in Las Vegas, and Kansas City.
There is a CM10 ROM that is suposedly gonna have LTE capablilties. I have not yet tested it but I may at a later date.

I went to *#22693# and came across an LTE option on my T-Mobile Note 2, has it always been there? I thought the bands were not enabled yet.
Currently on LL4 .
Curious, when lte comes out, would it consume a lot more battery power than the current 4g?
And what if your on rooted rom? Will the option be there or will you need to revert to stock for the OTA ?

Tbh id rather wait for the tmobile lte than try and use att. I had my friend at work run speedtest on his and its not much more faster than our hspa+ right now.
My connection on average is around 13-15mps, ive peaked at 22mps too before. The att one that was ran was at about 19mps. Since att is realease 9 lte and tmobile is said to be releasing release 10 lte. Im going to wait and see.
Hopefully the 2 people here can post their speeds with the test devices to see what we can look forward too.

If your connected to LTE you should see about an 30 min to an hour less of battery life, if your connected to "4G" (3G) but your phone is constantly searching for a LTE signal you going to lose about 1:30-2 hours.
I just bought some batteries to deal with this

Any news on LTE in Vegas? Can you post your screens of ServiceMode or speedtests?
THanks
Thanks that explains why my battery life has been fluctuating. Even when I am connected to 3G my phone still displays 4G and the battery life consumed is the same when I am connected to either type. Is there anyway to turn on the data connection automatically whenever a particular app requires it?
