Need help rooting. - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Ok so I just bought a s3 on craigslist for 250 that was only used for a week or so. The phone is perfect in All aspects. The morning after I bought it I got an ota for JB. So I went ahead and installed. Now a couple of days later im Trying to root. I can get into download mode and connect to odin install the cwm tar and all goes good odin does its thing and says its has passed. Next I go to get into cwm recovery and it takes me to stock android recovery and wont let me install super user. Ive tried several other tar files hoping they we just bad downloads. My flash counter is at 7 now. Ive looked everywhere I can think of for a fix and find a lot of other things that point in a certain dirrection but I am unsure of which way to go. Any help would be great.

my solution was just to bite the bullet, and odin a full image that was already rooted. Takes a while, but solved my issues.

Uncheck auto reboot in Odin before you flash the tar file, once it's done, unplug your device, and boot straight into cwm recovery, volume up home and power, flash su, reboot, done.

I also tryed the other sugstion and no luck

I would recommend root66 if you just want stock with root injected, with no counter trips. From there you can CWM and play. Enjoy!
Doc's thread here:

So I was able to do as shane1dimond suggested. It worked got in to cwm. Installed superuser. But I still dont have root acces. ???

WTF $250? That seller was nuts.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium

Yup. He was a apple fan. Decided to try android. Didnt like it cut his lisses and went back to it. His loss my gain.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app

If you just odin the cwm tar I dont think it will include the su files. You will need to flash a zip containing the binaries
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app

Use the root66 img

Which root method should I use?

There are 2 root methods in the Android Development forum.
Which one would you guys advise me doing? OR which method did you use?
I know that one of them is flashing Stock ROM image with root, and the other I think is rooting via Odin as well...

I would say the one you feel more comfortable with. I personally used the ODIN then flashed SU from CWM. I have not had any issues.
I took the Odin no flash counter method it took about 20 min but it happened

I used the guide by mrRobinson here. No issues whatsoever and it was very straightforward. I also used the guide mrRobinson linked to in the same post to install a custom recovery.

Mobile odin back to stock.

I am stock and rooted. I woke up this morning with a CONGRATULATIONS!!! message saying there is an OTA for me... I tried to update and it wouldnt let me cuz im rooted...
I looked into it and found I could use mobile odin to unroot...
I have the app (mobile odin) I do not have the tar file. Is there a link handy?
With maybe a how-to?
Thx in advance

You can get all the FW and itas here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949687
Just to clarify, Mobile Odin won't unroot you, but it will reinject root during flash so you stay rooted.
Also you can get the ota if rooted but if you don't have stock recovery, modem and everything else it'll fail.
Using Mobile Odin and the fw in my thread will work. Just make sure the Everroot options are selected to keep root.
Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper can temp unroot you so maybe that's what you were thinking of?

Well if your just trying to unroot, go into your root program and have it uninstall itself. SuperSU and SUperuser both support the ability for them to fully uninstall themselves.
Will just need to install root via recovery again once your updated.... Pretty easy
Wellllll... I got a super root kit from this site rooted just fine but removed it frim my computer avg said it was infected.
Is that what you mean forgive me for being nooby

Mobile Odin should support internal sd.... I guess you have the free version from his thread here? I didn't realize it didn't support internal...sorry bout that.
In that case just plug into the computer and use pc odin. You can use regular fw or MrRobinsons root66 fw which is pre-rooted. You can find his thread in development.

I am only focusing on your phone. IF your rooted, then you will have an app in your app drawer called either superuser or supersu (That is your root ) Open that and click full uninstall, then your unrooted.
When your done with the update, you can use Odin (Windows Version) to flash a custom recovery and then install the supersu.zip file located in chainsfire's thread.
I have superuser. I cannot find an option within the app to do a uninstall.

Try rooting your phone again via Root66 that is much easier than that + its a updated version of rooting and am assuming that recently you just got your phone?
and if your gonna root it again go for the JB version the pre-rooted one.
Root66

Use this guide can't fail. Remember to unchecked reboot on Odin. Or you will never have root. Cause when it reboot it reflashes stock recovery u need to flash su before you let it reboot. So after you install cwr with Odin remove battery and boot into recovery and flash su. And ur good to go.

[Q] Help please possible brick :(

Hey guys so i rooted my phone using odin and was attempting to put on cyanogen mod 10.1 when it failed and i restored to factory settings. then i thought ill restore to my previously saved backup and it stayed at the samsung screen that lights up behind the white lettters. now i tried going into recovery mode and restoring to factory and also tried clear cache and delvik cache. only problem is it still got stuck at the samsung screen so i then tried to reroot it on obin but since there was a binary count of 1 it didnt work what can i dooo
binary count wouldn't stop anything from flashing. after flashing a stock rom with odin again, make sure to go directory into recovery to wipe data/factory reset and then boot up the phone.
I got it working then I tried to put cyanogen 10.1 on and it crashed again idno what the deal is I put it on sd card and loaded it with root manager

root manager? or rom manager?
sent from my I747
Don't use rom manager to flash a rom. Odin back to stock (Samsung devices are special that way) or use one of the root injected firmwares in one of the stickies in the development section. Once you get set up, download goo manager from the play store (you must be rooted to use it). From the menu of goo manager install recovery script, you will then have twrp recovery installed. Then follow the instructions in the op for the rom you want to flash. If this seems foreign to you then Odin back to stock and stay there. If you want to continue to modify your device read and read some more. Tony stark has a thread with all the information you need. Just Google search.

It is easy once you do it once. First time can be overwhelming. I'm a visual learner so I found a YouTube video for the phone and followed it step by step. Now I'm almost flashing them in my sleep.

So I know I'm rooted right now on my s3 so do I have to go back to stock and reboot it before I flash a rom? Or can I just do it like in the video now and flash it from recovery mode

Just odin to stock and reroot, reflash recovery, and restore backup

It's only a soft brick. As long as you can get into download mode you can use Odin to return to stock.

If it was bricked you don't get a chance to keep bricking it. Stay with stock until you feel more comfortable with the process.

How to revert from 4.3 BACK To 4.1.....no brick!

If someone could show me how to post a link that allows you to flash TWRP onto 4.3 then you can kick Samsung's generic version of Ft. Knox to the curb. I have the one click Odin file on my phone..... Just don't know how to get it out to everyone else.

Wow I can't believe no answers yet.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Really? You need a link to TWRP recovery? Or "a link that allows you to flash twrp"? I'm confused. :what: You can flash twrp on 4.3 through odin. But if you flash TWRP that trips Knox, and even if you somehow flash back to 4.1.2, you still have a voided warranty. So why not just flash a touchwiz 4.1.2 rom (not through odin). Unless you found a way to go back and get rid of the bootloader? I'm sorry I'm just confused. But if you need to post a link upload it to a host. Then share the link.
If you need a recovery might I suggest this one:

Good catch. He just created this thread by itself after asking the same question in another thread. The other thread that he posted in was a response to someone hard bricking there phone trying to down grade the bootloader. I assumed he got an old bootloader you work. The way he worded it in this thread does leave it open either way.
