I have to ask... why wouldn't they? It's a standard, after all.
Or do you have some other definition of "work"?
there's a ton of stuff out there that's better and cheaper than the iPhone buds. But I guess if you have nothing else to use...
i dont like htc issued headsets. theyre too long and too big for my ears. i never liked em.
I'm pretty sure they would, maybe not the volume buttons but the single press for pause double for skip and triple for previous has worked on a few blackberries I've had. So I don't see why not

If the OP was asking about the ones with the integrated volume controls... those are proprietary to Apple. There's no reason they would work on an Android phone.
I dont see why they wouldnt work, They do in my other android device. I personally like mine because I sleep streaming music and they are comfortable in my ear when I roll my head. (the mic works too)

I don't care for the volume controls. Just need a decent headset with mic that would work on the Evo.

lol.. yea my definition of work was a little unclear.. i wanted to know if volume control and the mic channel would work..
and aaronb1980 already confirmed that the mic works on his post.. now all we need to kno is does the volume control work?
these would be really nice to have:

I doubt the volume control on any of the headphones meant for an iPhone is gonna work on an Android device... But if you just want a good quality pair of headphones with great SQ and a mic, there's plenty of choices out there. I just bought the MEElectronics M9P straight from their site for $23 w/S&H (coupon code "SHIPPING_COUPON" knocked a few bucks off shipping). They should be a nice upgrade from my Sennheiser CX300 which are 4 years old and still kicking, but I wanted something w/a mic.
I've got a pair of JVC HA-FX34 which I use to exercise (less cord noise than the CX300) and by most accounts the MEElec's should be an upgrade over that as well... Just throwing it out there since I know they're fairly common headphones at retail, might be a point of reference. Head-Fi.org is a great resource for this kinda stuff. Other popular choices are the NuForce NE-7M, Maximo iP-HS5, Apple's own dual driver IEMs, etc. Most of those are $40-50 tho and the M9P seemed like a great value judging by the many comparisons between them and some of the pricier competition.
Newegg's selling the M9P as well btw, FWIW (as is Amazon).
Meelectronics makes some great stuff. I have their M6's, which are straight earbuds, fantastic SQ for the money spent. The M9s are supposed to be an amazing bang for the buck if you need a mic.
i saw these bad boys on sale earlier:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001DERZK0/
i think it's what i'm going to go with
I'm really hoping the mic works with the iPhone earbuds cause I know that they didnt work on the HTC Hero which was disappointing... it recognized it as a headset but no audio in worked.

got a set of those for my iPod Touch. Things are great. They come with 3 different sized ear buds. Nice and loud, and the mic works great on em. They also work on my Hero, the button actions are different though.
EDIT: just tried the mic, it doesnt work on the HERO ..;(

im hoping it works. ordered a pair already.
I have a pair of V-Moda (Faze) earphones / mic and use them on my Hero (and Pre) all the time... I'd say u should be good to go with those. SN: They sound great, BTW (but one of my earphones stopped working :-( .. but I'm sending them in for a warranty replacement )

**The Play/Stop button works too BTW
From what I've experienced (on the Hero at least), is that the iPhone headphones work for your music and its recognized as a headset but the microphone is not functional. I guess the jack isnt touching the right connectors or something. From the display model of the EVO, it looks a little more promising... I hope they work. I have Shure headphones meant for the iPhone but I wanna use them on my EVO!
The apple earphones don't work on Nokias too. The mic ring is positioned differently compared to standrad earphones with mic.
Has anyone tried using the mic?
Im used to using my iphone headphones with the built-in mix and music controls (lost them). Was wondering if any earphones with these features will work with the DX to answer/hang up calls and control the music player.
Im on my way to best buy for an unrelated purchase but would like to know what options I have before I get misled by a sales agent there.

I have the Motorokr S9. They are bluetooth. I really like them. I have been looking to upgrade and there are a lot more out since I first purchased. I would definitely do some research online before buying from Best Buy.
Update: I went out and upgraded from the S9 to the S9-HD. They are huge improvement from the old model. The sound is so much better. Battery life is still about the same.

V-MODA Vibe Duo Earbud Headset (Gunmetal Rouge)
Try doing an amazon search for those.
I ordered them a few weeks before I got my DX cause I knew I would need some headphones. And was I pleasently surprised! These 26$ earbuds EASILY surpass the quality of my friends' $100 Bose and $60 Skull candy or w/e earbuds. Plus they are very well built, with a braided cord and a cell phone call start/end button. Oh and the color matches the droid x.
Try em out! I guarantee you won't be disappointed

The Beats line by the Doctor has Control Talk, which may or may not work completely with Android (leaning towards may not). I believe only the pause
and volume control work, not the next/prev track. Not cheap though. I'm looking at getting the Gaga's for my sister. They better tuck her into bed at
night too for $130!
I want the beats sooooo bad. Can't justify that kinda $ though.

+2, I've had mine since I had my old 6700, they work great.
I'd also +1 the S9HD's if those blasted ear bud pieces weren't so prone to falling out and getting lost while being transported in a pocket or getting pulled out of a pocket (I can't use them any more b/c this happened to all 3 sizes of ear buds, and I have yet to find a way to purchase replacements w/o buying the entire headset again).
I have a set of rocketfish over-the-ear BT stereo headphones w/ music and call controls. They work quite well and though they take some adjustment on my head due to me wearing glasses, they are also fairly comfortable..... and they're not at all as expensive as the name-brand motorokr's (motorola if you couldn't tell).
I got the V-Mode Vibe Duos too! lol
I agree, very good pair of earphones. Only catch is that the default music player wont pic up the control button. No big deal tho cause you got a nice widget on the lockscreen that allows u to pause, forward or rewind.
I got the Dr Monster Beats too but i THINK they are fake. Friend gave em to me, anyways, the v-modas sound wayyy better and have a very nice deep rich bass!
If you go to amazon you will read a lot of negative feedback, to be honest my v-modas still working just fine!
+1 Motorola S9-HD
I use mine every day.
These are nearly the only headphones/ear buds in existence that will have all the controls work properly on your phone with.
http://www.zagg.com/audio/smart-buds.php
Virtually all headphones/ear buds with audio controls are designed for Apple products. Apple is a terrible company, they make everything proprietary; they switched the mic and ground connectors so they could force manufacturers to make headphones that would only work properly on their bass-ackwards newer Apple products.
Products like these:
http://www.bose.com/controller?url=...mobile_solution/index.jsp&model=mie2i_headset
http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheiser/home_en.nsf/root/private_headphones_sport-line_504603

http://www.klipsch.com/na-en/products/image-s5i-rugged-overview/
Will only work on newer-generation iPods/iPhones/etc. because Apple switched the microphone and ground connectors, so when you plug any of the above-linked products into a regular, worldwide standard, normal headphone jack like we have on our Droid X and that a gazillion other devices have, the buttons work sporadically or not at all.
God, I hate Apple. Support Zagg for being nearly the only company in existence to recognize what Apple has done, and accordingly provided a product for everyone else with. Apple would do the same thing with Bluetooth if they could, but they don't own the Bluetooth standard, thankfully; which is why all your audio controls work on any Bluetooth-enabled device out there. (as long as it's not a really old one)

Another reason to hate Apple... thanks alot man!
i have the in-ear beats. They are AMAZING. the controls don't work though.
+1 for S9 as well.
The Nokia TRRS standard is what everything else uses, Tip = Left channel, first Ring = Right channel, second Ring = Mic/Control feed, Sleeve = Ground.
The Apple TRRS standard uses, Tip = Left channel, first Ring = Right channel, second Ring = Ground, Sleeve = Mic/Control feed.
Funny thing is Nokia started to use that TRRS layout well over ten years ago in Asia. Almost immediately China and Japan adopted it as an industrial standard and every phone manufacturer since has used it too.
Then Apple comes along years later, with all its infinite wisdom on how to do things that will alienate themselves from the rest of the market and switches the second ring and sleeve. So now the mic and controls for Apple headsets wont work with ANY other phone, and you can’t use any other headset with the iPhone unless it is Apple configured.
Things get even more complicated when apple decides to alter the amp setting for the output of their audio. This is even more interesting and dumbfounding: Apples headsets bass range can be driven at a much lower signal power, that means that you can still use the Apple TRS headphones for audio only (no mic, no controls) in any other device BUT you can’t properly use TRS headphones manufactured for the rest of the industries phones because they require a higher signal power to drive the low end. So if you try to use a standard set of headphones with an Apple device the bass will surely suffer. Those issues happen all the time with iPods because of the same configuration of the TRS standard.
With TRRS you get other issues caused by the signal grounding through the control buss, every now and then output from a song will bias a diode or transistor just right to skip the track or stop the song or do a whole slew of different and wacky things.
So if you ever see someone having this issue with a smart phone tell them to get non-Apple headsets.
If you see someone with an iPhone that’s having this issue, tell them to get an Android device. No, seriously though, tell them to get an Apple headset. Same thing goes if they are experiencing poor bass.
So it isn’t that there is only one brand making the correct headsets, its more like a few brands making headsets that only work with Apple. An easy way to identify the difference is Apples control standard is referred to as TapLine. Just buy headsets that aren’t TapLine or TapLineII. A vast majority of ALL the headsets on the market use the Nokia TRRS standard which is what everything other than Apple is configured for, you shouldn’t have any issues finding a headset that will work for audio and voice.
If you want to use Bluetooth, then you have a world of options for headsets, pretty much everything works. I like the MOTOROKR S305, inexpensive, uses micro USB to charge, and has FULL control, even with voice commands.
If you want to save your battery and use corded headsets with FULL control, then be prepared for disappointment. Right now the Droid X does not support phone controls through the headset command controls. You should still be able to control your music player (maybe, that is still a hit or miss), but if you want to answer and end a phone call then you only have the option of setting the phone to handsfree. With the phone set to handsfree answer and the headphones are plugged in, the phone will answer and you just have to allow the caller on the other end to terminate the call.

I can't repost the link because the forum thinks I might be a spammer.
It was the link for the Zagg headset.
OK, I am confused with your post. You acknowledge that Apple does things differently and that Apple headsets won’t work on other phones, but then you list a link that is for an Apple configured headset. The description on the page states: “ZAGGsmartbuds music control for iPhone” and then contradicts that with: “Compatible with almost all smartphones with 3.5mm jacks” and then it states: “Some non-US smartphones, such as the Samsung i9000, have a unique jack configuration that requires an adapter for use with the ZAGGsmartbuds.” which is yet another contradiction because that phone is the Galaxy S Android phone that uses the Nokia standard. So the description on that page is pretty much saying that if you want these to work with anything other than an Apple device then you need to use a converter.

I recently purchased an HTC myTouch 4G but didn't like the headphones that come with the device, although they do work as advertised.
I have, and would rather use, either a pair of philips "actionFit" or "Beats by Dr. Dre". On These the sound works fine, however the microphone will not work with the phone. I don't see any difference between the jack, so can anyone tell me what's going on? Is there any way to get these 3rd party headphones to work with the myTouch 4G?
Me too
I have had a terrible time trying to get a wired headset to work on mytouch 4g. The mic and the controls don't work on the headset. I've tried a bunch including one's that supposedly work, but they don't (bose, diddy beats, plantronics 216,etc). A user in a different forum told me that he use the klipsch s4i's, so I'm going to try those once they arrive in the mail. I have a theory kim yet to try, that if the headset has more than one byron, its not going to work (unless its the one that came with the phone).
I've tried a 3.5mm adapter to 3.5mm adapter, too, and that didn't work either. I've searched all over the net and can't find an answer, but I'm glad to hear someone else is having the same problem! I spoke with t-mobile and they sent me a replacement, but it didn't work either...

Did the S4i's work? I'm dying to get my hands on some of those if the controls and mic work with the mt4g.
Final scoop on mt4g and headphones
Okay, I'm posting this response as a service to all those infuriates out there struggling to find am explanation why we can't use headphones like everybody else. We find this out when its too later to do any refund and we convince ourselves that headphones are not a dealbreaker.
Well, before I got the s4i's, I had pretty strong evidence that all headsets would not work impresa they only had one button (including those that boast several clicks do current things-although it won't on your phone). When the s4i came, the suspicion was confirmed. However, I was very disappointed by sound quality anyways, so not a big loss. I felt like I liked my headphones without controls for sound quality anyways.
So, fellow mt4g users, jets what to do. The best headset with mic (you can still use the button to ffwd and pause) that I've found so far is the jbuds j4m. Very clear highs and mids, with decent bass. Very durable and look cool. Chord is a little long though. Better still is a bluetooth device made by cellular innovations found on amazon for about 30 bucks. Its a bluetooth with music controls that clips on your short or whatever and you can plug ANY of you favorite headphones into and listen to your tunes.
I would have to second the JBuds. I love them. It is best to break them in by using the program on JLabs website, after that they sound even better, especially on the low end. Plus they have a lifetime warranty. Can't beat that.
For what it's worth.... the reason our beloved Mytouch 4g does not completely work with most 3rd party headsets is that the ground and mic pins on the phone are reversed.

Anything we can do to make a current headset work?
FYI the bose mei2 mic doesnt work and only the play/action button on the controls work, not the volume buttons.
I had a pair of skull candy FMJ that did work however I washed and dried them like 4 times and they finally gave out.

I believe only 1 button mic's will work, and you can use any headphone with a mic adapter.
Search amazon for "Headset Hands Free 3.5mm Adapter + Microphone" should give you a few options to choose from.
I Know that any of the Eelectronics options do work and the button and mic also work. but, they are very bass heavy so if your not a basshead, it may not be the best option. If you love your bass the M6 has the best sound (IMO) and if you don't like wearing an over the ear model the M9 is a very close 2nd.
I am planning to try Etymotic HF2's next, hope they work.

Hi there,
What is the advantage of using this "Headset Hands Free 3.5mm Adapter + Microphone"?
Thanks,
M
"Beats By Dr. Dre" headphones are extremely overpriced for what they are, for the same price you could buy a pair of higher quality (perhaps two) headphones such as the Audio-Technica ATH-M50s. Bose, skull candy, and virtually all other mass-marketed products of that nature are the same way (overpriced).
This is an old thread but I thought I'd just throw this out there for others who might stumble upon it later
So I have had iPhones before, and I have a set of Klipsh Image One headphones with a mic and remote. I'm not really caring about the remote, but the mic doesn't work on the SGS3. It worked on my HTC Titan WP7 phone, so I thought it was some kind of standard, but apparently not.
I've done prelim research and found that the stock in-ear headsets that come with the phone have the mic and ground reversed from the iPhone (WHY would you do that?). Now the issue lies in that I have very small ears, and just about any in-ear phones that I use for more than 5 minutes cause my ears to physically hurt and turn red, even the stock phones with the smallest cushions on them.
If I have to make an adapter just to use the mic, I will, but I'd rather not. I don't care about spending another $100 to get DECENT headphones that have a mic in them, since I use them for work almost every day. Any ideas? I'm looking for something along the lines of Sennheiser, Klipsch, etc, and trying to avoid no-name stuff. Thanks for reading!
EDIT: To rub salt in the wound, my Pantech Burst also works fine with the mic and middle button of the remote. Seems like everyone BUT Samsung uses this standard. Thanks... dicks.
There's a thread about it. I think the title has control talk or something. My search function isn't working on XDA right now for some reason so I cant look it up for you. People posted a lot of headphones and earphones with mic's that work with the S3 so if you can find it you should have a variety to choose from
klipsch s4a?
I got a brand new pair of earbuds (Brainwavz Delta something) and plugged them into my HTC 10.. they work fine for a bit then if I move the phone just right (or sometimes do nothing) the music stops, there's no longer a headphone icon in the status bar, and I have to unplug and plug them back in.. any idea what this may be caused by?
My Xiaomi Piston 3s worked fine with it, they just died in one ear :/
Edit** the headphones work fine with my Nexus 7, so it's not an issue of compatibility... unless the fact that it's a 3-ring plug (which should be fine, so were the pistons)
Same issue with headphone jack
I was using a pair of Fischer Audio Consonance Pro IEM's on my M8 and now 10 and experiencing the same issues. Songs skipping all over the place, starting, pausing, the OK Google app starting up and saying it couldn't hear what I said, or picking up something from what I am listening to. It is maddening. I love this phone so far, but this issue will drive me crazy if I can't be easily fixed.
It's as if the jack/plug is coming loose, since it fails to recognize the headphones until I unplug it and replug. It's very annoying, and seems to happen only if I tip the phone just the right way :/ hope it's not a hardware defect...
I have a feeling this is because of the edges, if you look at the headphones Jack it isn't flush the edge goes in a little thus you don't get 100% covered 3.5m lead.
Does seem worse in some headphones though

Not really, the best way would be to get a very small 3.5m extension cable, one that isn't so sensitive, but you would only find out through trial and error. Or buy another set of headphones. For example my bose qc25 aren't to bad but a cheap sony set I have if I move abit they crackle.
Is the one bit of design htc messed up. If they would of moved it a few mm to the front and problem solved.
Surprised more people aren't moaning about it as one big points is the 24 bit audio.
Can we confirm that this is an issue across all HTC 10's and not just an unlucky few? I thought my phone might've been defected. 2 Beats headphones I have (got both as gifts) do not seem to work properly. But if I use other a plantronics headset I have, works just dandy. I'm afraid to buy any headphones not knowing which would or wouldn't work. This is not a good thing at all.
I have a Sol republic headphone with mic integrated and doesn't work properly on mine either. However, a friend of mine has a sol republic headphone too, and it works. I bought a panasonic tcm 125 and it works really well.. so IDK, I'm going to change the cable on my sol rep to see if that fix the problem.
Might be headphones with integrated control/mic which has the extra ring :/
Question: when does the issue happen for everyone else? Mine almost always acts up when I turn the screen off, maybe that has something to do with it
I can confirm this is NOT a wide spread issue, I even dropped my phone, not low enough to hang on the cord but enough movement to yank on it, I have messed with it, played around to see if I can make it have an issue, but no issue exists, its either an unlucky few or your headphones.
The only issue I have not related to this is my headphones I tested, the "Audio Technica ATH-M50" jack is too big to fit in the headphone jack while my phone has its case on (Spigen Neo Hybrid Crystal), taking the case off solves it, just barely not big enough cut out on the case for that model of headphones, regardless they don't sound as good as my IEM's so F em! lol
Have you guys tried other headphones or AUX cords? I don't have this issue anywhere, not via Headphones, not at my work on are speaker system, and not in my car via AUX.
So the actual shape or design of the headphone jack it self is NOT flawed like I noticed some have speculated.
I've been using my m50x or bose qc20's. Both work fine with no issues.
Pretty sure it's headphones with integrated controls for Apple devices that don't work. My jbl reflects which I use for running (3 rings) don't work if pushed all the way in. But my bose sound true work just fine. And the bose just so happen to be made for samsung and android devices. If I had some apple earpods around I'd test it but I'm thinking it's just headphones with integrated controls exclusively for Apple that might have issues.

If I had some apple earpods around I'd test it but I'm thinking it's just headphones with integrated controls exclusively for Apple that might have issues.

Wish that were the case.. mine are specifically Android remote headphones :/
Experiencing similar issues with my Sennheiser Urbanite XL headphones. Seemingly random moments where the headphones seem to just disconnect with the slightest movement (or non-movement).

Hmmm you're right. My sisters htc 10 seemingly all headphones just do not to work. Might be a small batch issue. I'm thinking about exchanging out for another one because I have the yellow band issue on the bottom of the screen anyways. Really don't want to play the exchange game like I did with the nexus 6p especially since HTC doesn't have the same support Google does. Gonna exchange if I get a bad one twice I'm just returning this phone all together. Hate to see it go because this phone is gorgeous.

Man I'm past my return date... and I'm not ponying up $100+ for a replacement through Verizon insurance

Ah I have the unlocked model and I modded it to use on Verizon. I had no problem replacing phones through verizon though. Switched out my s6 edge 4 times for free due to display and speaker issues. Of course you end up getting their certified like new device which may or may not bother you. But if it doesn't you can just go to a corporate store and show them some headphones won't work. Most likely they'll ship you one free of charge.

I'm not a huge fan of Verizon anyway.. parents are just too afraid to lose the coverage (T-Mobile is top of my list but they're not so convinced)
I accidentally whacked my headphone jack very lightly with the tip of my finger and now my headphones seem to randomly disconnect. It works fine with my aux cable, but with my headphones with a mic it seems this happens.
