anyone else not able to connect to a wpa2 wifi network?
mine connects but there is no internet..>.>
figured out my own issue, apparently my router was giving my phone a different ip than the phone wanted, so all ihad to do was assign the ip my phone wants from the router manually.

For some odd reason I am unable to use WIFI at work on our 3COM wireless routers. I can connect to all the access points fine, but it never routes. I can ping other internal IP addresses, but I am not able to ping public IP addresses outside of our network.
I started looking through logcat and found that it is setting the gateway to 120.123.1.0 when it should obviously be 192.168.1.1. I looked everywhere in the router settings and the gateway is specified as 192.168.1.1. This is obviously a problem! Why in the world is it picking up this bogus gateway IP address from these routers?
I've had no problems with any other routers and an office neighbor is able to get wifi just fine on his iPhone. Any clues?
Well it is definitely just a gateway issue. I opened a shell with adb and set the gateway to 192.168.1.1 manually and I was able to to access the internet via wifi on the 3COM wireless router.
Does anyone have any idea why the EVO would not obtain the correct gateway? Every other system on the wireless network gets the right data from the DHCP server. I don't care how much of a long shot your suggestions or ideas are, I am looking for any leads to investigate. I've already double checked everything in the wireless router and DHCP server and the mysterious gateway IP (120.123.1.0) is nowhere to be found.
IP, netmask, DNS, DHCP server, and lease time are all coming in fine.
At some points in your life, one of your Android devices connect to a wifi router, but can't connect to the internet. However, your computer, laptop or iPad will connect to that same wifi and use the internet just fine. I've looked everywhere on the internet for solutions, some of them are:
+ Turn off and on both modem and wifi router
+ Factory reset wifi router
+ Battery pull your phone, wait 30s and put it back
+ Reflash stock or custom ROM
+ Change DHCP IP setting to Static
+ Disable security (WEP, WPA) on wifi router
+ Check DNS server, gateway IP address for correctness
Fortunately, I stumbled upon this old thread last night -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371794
It helped fix the internet connection temporarily, turning off and on wifi on phone caused the issue to repeat.
In summary, he found out the correct MAC address for gateway was mismatched with the one on his phone. Even though the gateway IP address is correct (example: default gateway IP 192.168.1.1)
Upon further investigations, I found out my Wifi ROUTER has the same IP address with my MODEM (192.168.1.1) This IP conflict causes the phone to recognized the WIFI ROUTER's MAC address as the gateway's MAC address. This problem mostly occurs on Android phone, not computer (I'm no tech savvy so I have no idea why)
Simple fix: Go to wifi router setting page, change the IP address on wifi router to different number (other than default 192.168.1.1), and the problem should be fixed.
Please help spread the words to fellow Android lovers, I'm sure a lot of us have struggled with this problem
I'm one guy who is desperately looking for a solution to this.
Unfortunately the solution you gave didn't work.
Hi
i have a problem with wifi. it remains connected but loses internet access randomly. i found this solution:
"In the wifi networks, select the network you want and select ‘Forget network’
Turn off the wifi
kill all the apps with your task manager
Turn on the wifi again
Connect to the network
Check the internet connectivity
If still the problem exist, switch off the phone and redo the above steps"
it solves the problem, but it happens again after some minutes. actually, i also installed an app named "wifi fixer" which does the above process automatically. when the program is active, it turns the wifi off and on every 2-3 minutes. and the phone has internet access when the program tuns the wifi on.
any idea?
Turn off wifi optimization on some android phones help.

(bump) By any chance, are you all using Aztech's router? I have the same problem with my Aztech router.
solution?

2 years after the last reply I am having the same problem. My wife and kids all have internet access on their phones, tablets, desktop and laptops all from the same modem router yet I am unable to use the internet on my Galaxy S2 mobile phone even though my phone says connected to Wi-Fi Network Netgear 06.
The Mac address solution provided isn't applicable to my situation as my Mac address on my mobile is different to my modem router Mac address.
Any other solution?
Anyone having trouble with WiFi? With my home router it just keeps cycling between "Authenticating" and "Obtaining IP Address". It will connect with my Nexus 4 if I use my N4 to create a WiFi hotspot. My old N7 connects to this router just fine. It has full bars and is using WPA/WPA2 PSK security. I tried WPS and it didn't work either. Anyone else having issues or have any ideas? I want to root this, but I need to make sure the wireless is working correctly first.
Edit: It appears to work correctly if I switch to 2.4 GHZ mode, but will not connect correctly under Auto or 5GHZ mode. Curious if anyone else is having this problem.
So, weird thing started to happen last night. Both my Samsung devices ( my 2014 10.1 and my S4) started failing to get an IP from my wifi network. It would see the wifi network and report a strong signal, but would fail at the obtaining IP address. The IP assignment is handled by a Windows DHCP service running on a domain controller. I work in IT so I have a fairly extensive lab at home with routers, switches, servers, domain controllers, etc. The wireless access point in my home is a WNDR3700 with no WAN port config as my firewall/routing is done by a Cisco ASA 5505. All the 3700 does is provide wireless access to the network, essentially it acts solely as a wifi AP. Every other wireless device on the network is functioning fine including 3 laptops, a Blackberry and two other Android tablets ( Asus Transformers). So I know nothing is wrong with the dhcp or the AP in general. It's not a security issue as it is not failing on authentication, just on obtaining IP. So as a workaround I configured each one with a static IP and, of course, everything works fine.
One thing I noticed that seemed odd was that when I went to change the IP addr the address that was already in there, but greyed out sort of, was the wrong network for my home wifi. The phone and tablet both looked like they had a 192.168.1.0/24 address whereas my home wifi segment is 192.168.0.0/24. So maybe that had something to do with it. At the office now and both my phone and tablet have no issue connecting to our Cisco APs and getting a dhcp config from a Windows DHCP server. So pretty weird situation. I'm fine with leaving them on static config while on my home wifi network. Was just wondering if anyone else has seen this before?
Thanks
For any that might be interested. I used inSSIDer to find a less crowded channel for my 2.4 ghz band at home and both my Samsung devices are connecting and receiving ip addrs now.
I have spoken to many, many different amazon tech's regarding my amazon fire tv box (Not the stick), and no one can figure this out. I had a trendnet 732br router that would not connect via wpa/wpa2 psk. Tech told me router was incompatible. I bought a tp-link ac1750 router, same problem, but could connect via "open" network, and WPA/WPA2 PSK using TKIP encryption, but not AES. Tech told me to get a "name brand" router. I just spent 300.00 on a Linksys EA9200 AC3200 router. Can connect wired, WEP, open network, but STILL cannot connect vi WPA/WPA2 PSK. Have latest updates, stock firmware, latest update, and was told that an amazon developer would be calling me back. I tried the advanced setting, and can get tit to say connected when entering IP, DNS, gateway, etc, but it then gives me an error at the homepage saying network is not connected. When trying to connect vi WPA/WPA2 PSK, I get "Saved", "Obtaining IP addess", "Authenticating", or "avoided poor internet connection. Here's soething else that's weird. I CAN connect via WPA on my old linksys WRT54G router flashed with dd-wrt, but my speeds are horrible on it. ANY ideas???? Thank you in advance.

Never had this issue with aftv but it's interesting. I think I already know the answer to this, being an aftv user, but on a computer like linux, what you might try is to connect without the encryption then reactivate after connecting. I'm not sure thats an option on aftv but might be a way to do it on the router? Good luck. That's gotta be frustrating.
BTW--if you're into open source router software like dd-wrt, that might be the best place to go for advice. They'd probably know better than amazon.
I've had the exact same problem, are you using a 5GHz network?
if so change the channel to 40+36, that should fix things. I have no idea why but it worked for me.
