The 6.16 hboot is the one revolutionary sets it to. No it doesn't make any difference. And there's no need to put it back youre all good

Yea there's a whole bunch of different hboot versions. I don't know of any reason to change it, the end user doesn't use it for anything.
Keep it, change it. What ever...lol

It can and has been done, but it's kind of messy. You would need to download and flash about 4 files to get that to work, and flashing Hboots is always dangerous, especially if you are not experienced at it. There are also several commands that you can run from that Revolutionary Hboot, like re-flashing the Recovery, in case your phone soft bricks that you cannot run with that 2.15 (or 2.16) Hboot.

What is the stock bootloader version for non rooted Evos? I need to take mine in and I got S-On but it won't let me flash the PC36img and it is stuck in a bootloop now.
2.15 I believe
And I believe s off is needed if you wish to flash.

It is fine to take in with 2.10 Hboot as long as you are running Froyo - just use an RUU PC36IMG file with 2.10 Hboot and you will be fine.
Anyone know of a quick easy way to S-OFF the EVO 4G? I was able to root it but somehow it's back to S-ON.
Need more information as in root method, gingerbread or froyo ect
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I used Revolutionary to download root. Would that be Gingerbread?
I'm 3 days new to rooting. Any help and advice would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.

Yes that's gingerbread. Go to settings applications and make sure fastboot is NOT checked then power off the phone then hold the power button and volume down at the same time and post everything you see

I checked for the fastboot status under settings applications but did not see the option.
Here's what I get:
SUPERSONIC EVT2-3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-6.17.0001
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMEL224_16ab
RADIO-2.15.00.0000

Do you have a recovery?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Yes, I have clockworkmod installed.
So you completed the entire revolutionary process but it never gave you s-off but do you have revolutionary on the top of your bootloader?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I did complete the revolutionary process and it was on S-Off when finished but somehow I did something to turn it back on. Will I need to reinstall the program.. is there a quicker way of turning it back off?
BTW, looks like you have your Evo really set up! Any chance you can send me some links to set up mine? I'm running on Cyanogenmod 7 and I'm not completely happy with it.

Hey evo4gnoob, sorry about the delayed response friend. If you could still help me I'd appreciate it.
If I could recall this right, here's what happened: I was able to successfully root my evo4G through Revolutionary. I then tried installing the Cyanogenmod7 rom and ended up with a bootloop problem. I then flashed the Evo4G RUU to return it to manufacture settings. That process fixed the bootloop and installed Cyanogenmod7. I'm pretty sure that was what S-ONed the phone.

Ive never heard of a ruu giving people s-on ? A ruu brings you back to a complete stock unrooted rom and takes away your recovery

There is no 2.18 baseband for the Supersonic.
Sorry meant HBoot.
Why would you want to upgrade hboot?
It makes it harder to obtain s-off

^This.
It does exist, though. It's very close, even.
The reason why I want it is because of flashing back to stock. If you unlock using the htc dev site you are pretty much locked into 2.18. And is the reason why I am looking for a stock ruu with hboot of 2.18.
On a side note I might have another way around my problem. Anyone have the stock recovery image that can be flashed?
I used captain throwbacks method and down graded my hboot now im at the unrevoked process, I downloaded unrevoked3 ran it and it looked like everything was going great but when it rebooted my phone the unrevoked3 program gave me error message "communications with phone unexpectedly interrupted. Try again." Can somebody please tell me what I did wrong?

rowity and
I'm currently using hboot 2.10.0001 with radio 2.15.00.11.19, I was using hboot hboot 2.18.0001 I read that I could downgrade my hboot to 2.10.0001 that way I can use unrevoked3 to root the phone. I followed all the instructions and used the boot unlocker from htcdev.com to unlock the bootloader and use captain throwbacks method. When I installed the pc36img.img from captain throwbacks guide it seemed to mess everything up. I don't have a custom recovery but I should have one at this point right? I am so confused. I have s-off but it says I don't have root. I did have HTC sync installed when I tried to root it the first time and it failed so I had to uninstall HTC sync.
I can't remember but shouldn't it be "PC36IMG.zip"..? Been a while since I rooted my phone.

Okay, so this is my first thread and I wanted to know whats the difference between the hboot versions. I've seen people guides having to do with hboot 2.18, but my evo is on version 6.16.1002 with revolutionary and s-off. So, I would like to know what are the differences and the advantages of being on 2.18.
There's really no difference except the 6.16 hboot is the one revolutionary sets and 2.18 is the latest hboot. And no, there is no need to change it to 2.18

Thanks, also I don't want to make a new thread but what rom should I use for my evo? I've been flash quite often but I can't seem to find a good rom for it?
I can't recommend a rom, because it starts dev wars etc. but I can give you this helpful list.
