Freeware PPC, and the numerous FTP sites, along with device update, and PDM.
These are the many places I've fund over 85 different applications("apps") that I run on Windows Mobile 6.x.x. These all being in many places, sometimes hard to find, sometimes easy to find. Other "apps" include going to a website, made for and by the "app" parent company.
I have around 500 cabs on my HDD, updating and reorganizing them all the time.
Now say I make up a handy spreadsheet(on my phone) That goes over screen size Supported OS versions, and various other things including a description. Is there any way that someone else, that has a lot better understanding of mobile "app" writing than I do, take the info I compile, and apply it to their Marketplace for window Mobile, the real one.
I would hope to include my best Icon(that may take a while), and Potentially server mirroring the apps, since I already keep all the "apps" I use and have acquired, in a very organized fashion.
The style of PDM I like a lot more than M$Marketplace, the search feature is nice(sorting ITL and WWE is convenient. The touch interface, such as the drop down info, is also well implemented.
Device Update on the other hand it awesome, its simple, very similar to the OS it runs on.
I know WinMo is dead, within a few months from this threads initial post, it will be outdated, and completely forgotten shortly thereafter. But I know plenty of people sticking with at least one older model(e.g. HD2) and the apps are really out there.
Anyone care to work on this? I just lost my main PC and have been using my phones word processor and multiple web browsers to keep myself as close to a real PC as possible, this also had me downloading apps for usage similar to what I was doing on my PC.
Alongside this, I read an article about why someone is using the iPhone 4 as a "daily driver." When it came to his comparison of the apple, android, and WinMo marketplaces, he went over how although there is always an app there for WinMo its painstakingly hard to find. This is true(at least to those average consumers) and as he mentioned the Marketplace holds 1100 "apps."
I've been using a PPC since 05-06(can't remember...) and love what WinMo has had I.M.O. Over the other OS's. I have always been able to find exactly an app(s) for that. Normally in the larger "collections" I've grabbed from the net, there are thousands in each 0day pack and he was releasing them on a regular basis.
I also know that this could really help the platform, it would be the user made the marketplace. Then what's stopping M$ from handing us helpful(outdated e.g.. code) info that can make our app store even better.
I don't want a mimicking app store(although a skinnable one would beat unique) I just want something that can help out and be user made, user maintained.
Let me know what you guys think.

XDA Marketplace
Hi,
Nice to see your thoughts on this...
xda member 'davidgida' has developed an application 'XDA Marketplace' (thread)
Your repository would be a great addition to it ... I will point him to this thread as I have pointed to his
Hope to see a great partnership come in place !
I would love it if you upload your cab files to the xda market
If you have an idea what could be improved on the xda market or a feature you would love to be added just PM me. Every new idea is welcome.
EDIT:
Nearly I forgott:
This is the official thread for the xda market: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=707988
Wow, I saw this thread drop off the main page listing so fast, I figured all was missed.
Glad to find the App that's here already, Just got my Tilt2 Monday, was busy borrowing other peoples internets to flash deepshining on it. Got it up and working the same day I got it.
I'll try to get my FTP server back up. I'm currently running all my computers in my office on shared shared internet. Tethering to my main rig, and sharing the net to the other three. My switch recently died, and the wire running from the lower floor died shortly thereafter. I've been only online with my phone.
After I get the XDA app store on my phone, I'll compare my list to yours, then null out the duplicates. The spreadsheet I can custom tailor to similar categories, but I haven't seen the layout yet. Hopefully it will only take me a few days to write up some descriptions.

Okay,
There will be some design problems with the qvga/vga version. I currently working on a complete new version of the xda market. I will fix this error with the new version
Hi,
I hope you are still interested in a market.
I'm now finished with developing xda market v2.1
if you want to you can take a look at it:
I really would like to use my evo for work and i'll briefly mention what I'm trying do.
A co worker and myself own and run a small pc repair business.
We take notes on every thing we do and every thing we see and observe. why? Well, We can change a psu for a customer and 2 months later they get an infection and try to say we fixed this already, when we didn't even touch the OS.
Anyways, we have a thriving business and we have people in and out all day, the phones never stop ringing from open to close 6 days week. So needless to say, we accurately a lot of notes, memos and todos.
Lol, we thought we should take care of our own IT needs so we are trying different things out.
We were writing every note and conversation down on paper and keeping each customers invoice for a particular visit with the corresponding. This methods works. All you need is a pen and some paper. How ever we sometimes file these notes incorrectly or I can't read mybown writing, lol and I can't ever seem to find them quickly.
We recently decided we'd switch over to some sort of electronic note taking system and its a bear trying to find a way to get these notes available for editing and creating notes on 15 dedicated work Benches and 3 desks and one point of sale.
The method we are using now involves creating a folder and sharing it with certain users then mapping folders and creating shortcuts, then each customer gets a folder and each folder will inherent the permissions. we bought a netbook and a couple of laptops to drag around all the stations taking notes and what not. And its a pain but its working .
We may eventualy use sharepoint with word to make our application more network friendly.
Here's where my evo could tie in. My evo is having problems with creating and editing docs on the network. I may not even like using my evo for non stop note taking but it may prove to be handy for just viewing the data.
Also I thought about using gmail contacts for customer info and note taking because multiple people can be logged in and the same time and changes made to one customer will be updated immediately on all pcs that happen to have that particular customer contact open...its sweet. Plus we can have this gmail account added to our Android phones and we would have this info so we could essesntialy have our notes with us no matter where we are, even out on site.
My partner says she doesn't want to rely on google for something so important and that since we don't pay for it can break or change. If ee loose our internet we loose our notes. BTW In 2 years our internet went down only once for about 1.5 days.
So can you guys think of any way we can manager this data and still have direct access on your phones. BTW I use ignition and its not fluid enough to be beneficial in terms of time.
Any ideas, concrete or conceptial are welcome.

The evo is definetly a work phone, as well as a play phone. You might want to check out dropbox, it allows you to sync files over many computers, as well as your smart phones. For to do lists, theirs a program called todo.ly (I don't know if its a program or just a idea) that can maintain a to do list and work with drop box. If I'm right, it should be a add-on to dropbox found on their website.
I hope this helps!
Oh, and you get 2 GB of space for free. That's plenty for invoices and to do lists.
Try extensive Notes Apk. It might help you a little
You could also look into Evernote.
I like your google docs idea. Google has thousands and thousands of servers. When is the last time you heard of a google outage?
I do basically the same work but I maintain a television station instead of many clients. I use OTRS and Evernote. Otrs has long term notes and customer info, Evernote for short term until I can copy and paste my final notes into OTRS. Not ideal but I expect android support for OTRS soon. Hope that helps.

We have our Google Apps accounts go down. Rarely but it does happen. Usually it's in groups not everyone at once though.

I really appreciate everyone's comments. When I get a sec i'll look into some of these apps.
I love xda folks...thanks again.

So I have this idea, I hope someone in HTC can do this (Ideally this should be done by all manufacturers)
1. App is submitted in Play Store - Google adds it
2. App is quality checked by HTC for each HTC device before it shows up in say HTC one X play store. Same done by Sammy and others
3. If any problem HTC refuses the app into the Play Store for HTC one X / or for any HTC device, till the developer fixes the problem
4. Plz HTC implement it
Why should they do it ? Because we give them money and they should place quality control over the apps so we get the best experience (smooth, takes advantage of hardware as per each device, end spam)
Edit. I still stick to my point that brand that loose value due to hiccups of apps is the open handset alliance. Google will come out the winner in the end because their handsets are developer handsets thus the apps will always run smoothly on them.
I think the open handset alliance should take an active part in screening for quality of app.
Good idea, but impossible in the long run. There are far too many apps to make this anywhere near workable.
LoL
You serious? Every app has several versions and there are like tons of htc models out there. Even if we don't count custom firmware it is a impossible task..
And this not even a petition.. you are just a lazy bum hoping someone will do the job for you. So if you cant even find the effort for testing out apps... Then just use the standard apps
Grtz

My favorite statement in this case: buy an iPhone . Or at least a windows phone.
Google gave so much free space to manufacturers, that it impossible, neither in long, nor in short run.
The only way for HTC, is to create own analogue of store with games best passing for your device (apps compatibility is already very good). Like nvidia did.

My question is, what does HTC get for doing this?
Why do you even want HTC to do this? Apps in the market are by default supported by all phones that pass Google's CTS tests anyway, and all OHA member companies' phones must pass that test before being given the green light by Google to be released.
Do you want them to bankrupt faster?
It is nowhere near being possible.
and I must say I find your approach very very unhealty!
you can not ask for anything from anyone just because u pay them.
HTC is a phone manufacturer and does not promise you anything about any android application.
even if we try to take this approach seriously, HTC is putting sense on top of android which gives us HTC's own way of using your android device, with their own apps in some way. that is what you pay them for.
It's not HTC's job to check the quality of APPs in the Play Store.
This is like saying HP should be checking software is compatible for thier PCs running Windows.
(The software developer or Microsoft should be checking in that case - not HP)
APPs should be either checked by Google (who run the Play Store and Android) or by the developer of the APP itself.
HTC are a hardware manufacturer, not an APP developer....
the public do this already.
Just be careful what you download, pick apps with many downloads and/or many high ratings.
PLEASE NOT!
This wouldn't be a good idea ... Just think about how long it takes to put Sense 4.5 on top of Jelly Bean release. Quality checking apps by manufactures would definitely be a step in the wrong direction.
It would be better when HTC releases a plain Android (asop) version for the HOX.
complete useless and rubbish imo
no way, small company dont care end user
Maybe if you say
"Pretty please with a cherry on top"
They might just do it xD
What a ridiculous suggestion. Let them concentrate on producing great hardware and software.

What does this have to do with caring about the end user?
Nothing at all.
Still I would argue that if apple can ensure that all apps use the hardware why can't the open handset alliance do the same in assisting google in screening apps. As to why I made the thread I recently downloaded drag racing and immediately I had a notification full of ads which I don't mind however I uninstalled it and now the ads pop up on the screen whenever I switch on WiFi.
HTC and other manufacturers including Samsung need to step up if they want better quality apps for the end user. I would like to play a gameloft game without having to add a mod , changing kernels etc
Just my opinion and yes someone commented of me being lazy .... Yes its a public holiday here so nothing better to do other than making a thread.
No
Hell no!
Play Store is completely Google's thing, plus I don't want HTC fooling around with the way the Play Store works, AT ALL. Google's trying to make the Play Store a cleaner place I believe.

Then rate the app with one star and write a comment. That way you'll help all the others that consider downloading it and hint the developer that the app needs improvement. And vice versa - look at the ratings and comments of others before installing an app. Play Store is for people that can decide for themselves if they want the app or not. Anyone wanting to live in a walled garden and put his/her trust in someone else to not allow "bad" apps (basically those that hurt that someone's interests) should go with iOS.

Posting this in the forums I haunt. I discovered this threw another issue im dealing with. Really this effects multiple industries as I found out.
This is more for any developer but trying to get the message out.
Google is killing several API services. First one was the Weather API. That one killed any app or query built in a rom sniffing google for weather updates. Anyone that has noticed there weather app suddelny stop working is suffering from this issue. Most Devs have allready updated there API address but if you havent please edit in your next revision. Keep in mind this is only one of many APIs that will be cut off soon. So pull your resorces elsewhere if you can. Sadly that stuff is privately owned and not public so its there right to do so. For whatever reason they are doing this very quietly and without warning. Not sure why but its a problem that will get out of hand quickly if noone knows about it.
Thanks.

Hi - My internet browser is Firefox, and I have been using NoScript for years.
There is only one website that causes me constant problems when browsing: XDA Developers.
I use NoScript constantly with a lot of stuff disabled by default: Everything Facebook is always disabled, along with doubleclick and a bunch of other tracking websites.
With NoScript on, the XDA screen is constantly jumping around, with various websites constantly trying to refresh about twice a second. It is so jumpy with embedded websites continuously refreshing, that I can't even control NoScript well enough to enable whatever disabled website(s) are causing the problem.
I wouldn't be frustrated if this happened to me all the time, but XDA is the only website I see this problem on. I would expect a high-tech developer website like XDA to have less problems instead of more problems.
Sigh. I wish somebody at XDA could fix this.
¿GJ?
NoScript has a whitelist feature. If you don't want to use it, you can't expect it to be "fixed" (actually, modified to fit your needs would be a better choice of words) anytime soon, as the forums (and many other forums, in general) rely rather heavily on scripts.
I personally have XDA added to my whitelist.
As for the refreshes, did you make sure it's not another add-on that's conflicting? Start FF in safe mode and check if the issue persists.
Don't know if this helps, but I just tested XDA with NoScript without any issues.
That being said, a lot of features rely on JavaScript, so no guarantee what would happen if you only turned on some of them.
Huh.. I use NS on FF, and have seen no issues. To be sure it is NS, have you told it to temporarily allow all, and see if that fixes it? It could certainly be another issue..
What he could be speaking of is the portal constant refreshing (not on the forum), which also occurs on my differents computers with NS (with xda on whitelist).
For me, everytime I scroll on the portal main page, it refresh itself.
It's weird - Something changed between yesterday and today. Yesterday, this page wouldn't sit still until I was able to do enough "Temporarily allow all this page" button presses (about 5 or 6) to get the page finally stabilized.
Now, everything was stable when I entered XDA with the same "allow" list I had yesterday.
I'm not a big fan of "White List"ing sites, since so many sites have Facebook embedded in them (amongst many other tracking sites I don't like). Ever since Facebook violated my privacy and sucked up my personal contact information without my explicit approval, I ... ...
... well, let's just say I won't "Like" Facebook.
I appreciate the feedback from y'all, and I wish I knew what changed.
Thanks!

Some forum features won't work: dropdown menus (e.g. "Go to Page" next to the page numbers, "Quick Links", "Rate thread") search boxes not being cleared automatically when you click them, username/device completion in search boxes or using the new mention feature, share buttons (they won't show how many times X got shared), etc. The WIYIWYG editor obviously doesn't work as well.
The portal's layout is a bit messed up, too.
It's all fixed by adding xda-developers.com to the whitelist. I think you both already have it added (I removed it for testing), which is what you're supposed to do for websites you trust anyway.

I would suggest using something that will block them on all websites, then. You can probably do it using NoScript's advanced filtering options, but I personally already use AdBlock Plus, and there's a neat list you can subscribe to that will block all those buttons. Get the "Annoyance Block List" from here.

I have the opposite problem it seems, in that if I white-list the site then quite often one of the scripts goes haywire
and refreshes the page repeatedly for several refreshes or until the server complains with an error message about being overloaded.
It has been suggested to me that this may be a 2013 theme problem, so I'm trying the 2010 one for a few days to see if that fixes it.

@Nameless One: Yes, I've been seeing the "Server Overloaded" error message as well. I wasn't sure if it was NoScript related, though I was beginning to suspect it. I would open the same XDA pages in IE or Chrome without any problem, but see the "Overloaded" error only with Firefox. Usually (but, not always), temporarily enabling all sites fixed that problem for me.
¿GJ?
I have the same constant refresh problem.
The site only works if I set noscript to allow everything globally or if I use IE (ouch).
It feels to me this site is overburdened with ad/tracking scripts and blocking them forces the site to break (admins anti block?).
I will try the 2010 theme idea and report back, also I do have the main domain whitelisted.
--edit--
2010 theme fixes it, so I guess a 2013 theme issue.
Yep - Dumped the 2013 Theme and went back to 2010 Theme.
Everything's groovy now.

2013 relies heavily on javascript so I imagine that is why you are having some issues. 2010 uses it much less but you may still see some issues relating to Javascript being blocked, such as menus not working and that sort of thing.
