Hi,
did you manage to install the update? I downloaded the update as well but when I try to install it goes into recovery starts the update and then after some time comes up with the red error triangle with the exclamation.
I had rooted my phone with a custom recovery and have got back to the stock ROM as I wanted the OTA update. I have the stock recovery flashed and the phone is relocked but still rooted.
I'd appreciate it if anyone has any idea why I cannot update.

are you sure? in the link below they say that you can update with root intact. if your correct then how can i remove root? is it a case of removing the SU application?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1670433

No .... relocking the bootloader is not necessary......unrooting is !
With rom you need
Stock rom (root is NOT stock)
Stock kernel
Stock recovery
Bootloader can stay unlocked
With ruu you need to lock the bootloader that's it.

[Q] Rooting

Most likely a silly question I know but I will ask it anyways, as I can't find a simple answer.
I am looking to unlock and root my phone, I have no intention of installing a custom ROM, just want to instal the core control app (I play games a lot and phone over heats and read this app helps)
So here's my question, after rooting my phone providing I do not instal a custom rom will it still be possible to receive ota updates without having to relock my phone?
Any and all answers welcome, thanks in advance

What are you talking about?I have a rooted phone and i had OTA 1.28 and OTA 1.29 update. The only thing you have to do is to do a flash of the stock recovery, don't inform people wrong.
Creyni you can root your phone.Go to htcdev and unlock you'r bootloader,if you want update you'r phone to 1.29,after that download CWM and SuperSU and flash them.If an update is found you will receive a notification.Download the update but don't install it yet.First reboot you'r phone and enter fastboot and flash the original recovery. The recoveries for your version can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1594819
You will find there the stock recoveryes you need.Flash the stock recovery coresponding to you'r version, after that update the phone with the OTA you downloaded and after that you can flash back CWM.Is not that of a bigger deal.

There have been cases when updates have gone wrong because the phone is rooted. Unlocked bootloader is a different story.
Better be safe than sorry. You can't guarantee OP that the OTA update that he gets will go smoothly with a rooted phone.

Yeah i had a problem updating to 1.29 because i've installed alot of mods on my 1.28 and after that the update kept failing, but i did a nandroid backup that i had on my phone and after that the update worked. The key is to do a nandroid backup exactly you've installed the update so you can have a recovery of a "stock" update if you have problems with the update.

I already know that you should always do a nandroid backup just in case things go wrong. But the OP should know that OTA updates don't go smoothly with a rooted phone 100% of the time.
Cheers to both of you
As you both can tell I'm a bit of a noob with the whole thing, so think it might be best to pick up spare phone to practise rooting/flashing roms ect with in-case I make a silly mistake I wont ruin my day to day phone

yup. my bootloader is unlocked since my first day with HOX
And you did flash a custom recovery and made a nandroid backup and then you tried to applied the root with what ? I need more info bro, i can't keep on going to guess what you did and what you did not do
Do a nandroid backup of the stock rom and keep it somewhere safe, then go for a custom already rooted rom ! Have the advantage of a tweaked one ....why stay on stock

So, am I correct in understanding that my phone will not take the OTA with twrp installed? As in nothing to worry about?
Is there any command I can run in terminal to make it stop asking if I want to install the OTA?

Just follow the 2nd post here, then reflash TWRP. The OTA doesn't break root.

Yes, I just used Voodoo today to restore root after taking the .15 OTA. Will not work after 4.3, though (according to Google Play).

I can confirm this works fine as well. I had S-OFF through rumrunner and had flashed TWRP. To take the OTA, I re-flashed the stock recovery (.10) from the link given in this thread, then took the OTA. After the OTA installed with no problems, I re-installed a recovery (I changed to CWM, just for fun). I tested it by booting into recovery, and when I rebooted from CWM, it asked me if I wanted to re-install root (su). The phone now has the OTA (.15), still has SOFF and root was easily recovered.
I flashed the .10 stock recovery and I'm getting an error when I try the ota, any ideas why? I followed these instructions and I end up with a red triangle with exclamation point the reboot and phone works fine. Thanks for any help.
Edit:I got the congratulations message but when I checked it says failed, error 410. I've downloaded it a couple of times.

Boot into recovery. If you see a black screen with a red triangle or green circle, that is stock recovery. If you see TWRP/CWM you are obviously still on custom recovery.
But in case that the system is not stock, lets assume some system file was missing, won't doing a factory reset resolve the problem since the factory reset is being done from the stock recovery!
