[Q] Changing teh gorilla glass on the Note2?? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey folks.
My 7 month old son thought it wuld be funny to bang my note against the floor, and the result is a broken screen.
Anyone can tip me of a good video tutorial on how to replace the glass?
Bought a glass for it on ebay but im unsure of the "how to" part

Replacing Glass

First of all, hi my name is Gabriel and I'm new in this community.
My girlfriend has a T-Mobile samsung galaxy s2, thing is she was using it for a while without any kind of case and screen protector so her glass has a few scratches that she wants to eliminate. The digitizer is completely functional.
Is it possible to just replace the glass? Replacing the whole screen (LCD + digitizer is way too expensive for a phone that works fine)
I found the glass on eBay : //item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=300695417455
Is the process way too complicated? Is there any risk of damaging the phone? I've searched for YouTube tutorials but no dice.
It comes as one piece its virtually impossible to separate the glass from the digitizer without destroying the digitizer..

I've seen people do it on the S3 but not on our phone.

About the Screen?

Hello people, I got this phone for like a week now. And i just wanna ask and confirm if the screen in front is Gorilla Glass or no?
Some say Yes, but i've read it somewhere that its not? Anyone know?
It is Gorilla Glass 2. Idk about the back even though it is supposed to be gorilla glass as well.

Front And Back is gorrilla glass 2 according To Sprint documentation
Oh i see. Thanks for the reply, i just noticed hair thin line like some kind of scratch that's why Im curious bout that. . Just a few mm though. Thanks again people.
Yeah, gorilla glass can still scratch. They have a video somewhere explaining the differences between their glass and others. The main difference is the scratches remain smaller/thinner and don't gouge as deep, often times to where you don't even notice them. They are there though!

Replacing broken glass

Anyone know of a legit place to get a replacement front glass for gnex. My digitizer is fine so I don't need that. I've never done this before, just looking for someone to point me in the right direction.

can you post the pics of the phone
$17.90 for front glass, not bad. I have a surface scratch on mine that has been bugging me, might be cheap enough to be worth the trouble. Has anybody had any experience ordering from that website? Is there any instructions included on how to replace the items or is that something that you just have to find on your own?

Any luck with this? Looking to do the same with my i515 gnex, does anyone happen to know if the glass cutouts for the two versions are the same?
From what I read, its strongly recommend to replace the whole unit(screen, digitizer, and glass) because its a huge pain to get glass off if you are lucky enough to do so.

I know its tricky, but i've done it before(heat is my friend). Once you do it once it actually isn't bad especially because the nexus has the slight lip around the screen which helps you big time with positioning the glass. I'm just confused if the two glass cutouts are the same or not.
So I still have broken glass that is finally starting to fall out whilst the cracks have gotten larger, no thanks to my two year old who loves to throw toys.
Has anyone seen the glass replacement, not the digitizer, last long term?
I'm trying to hold out until October but concerned that I'm going to lose the screen entirely soon.

My phone has EXACTLY the same crack pattern!! And I know how bad it feels.
Is this some design issue with the GNex stress points?
I asked the Samsung Care Center and they asked around $185 for the replacement (glass and digitizer)
That is more than half of the phone cost. :crying:
(Edit: They said as the front glass, the digitizer and the lcd are glued together, it is impossible to get a seperate glass replacement)
Luckily I had a screen guard on so the glass pieces are not falling apart yet.
You can get the glass and ask a trustworthy maintenance guy for helping replace it.
I haven't tried yet. But might try soon. :fingers-crossed:
Can someone tell me the link of the adhesive that you have bought on eBay or amazon??

Should be able to, screen is the same.
Get a case and screen protector and be careful with your $700+ phone!
I would try to fix it myself with a replacement screen off ebay, and once it's functioning again I would sell the fixed note 2 and buy a new one

at first glance, it sounds kinda shady, but in reality who wouldn't pay like 400 dollars for THIS phone with a chinese knockoff screen

I broke my screen also only 2 days after buying it. I took it to a cell phone repair shop and they used an n7100 screen amd also digitizer. (Because they broke my digitizer replacing the glass) 2 days after that my phone just quit working. They refused to fix it because I signed a waiver. So I took it to another shop who said it was the wrong screen that caused the problems and it totally fried my phone. Not sure if they were right or not but I ended up dishing out the $700 for a second time for another new phone. Not sure if you want to chance it.

Guess I got lucky. Bought an Elago case and iSmooth screen protector. Phone fell out of my pocket next day and happily bounced down an entire concrete staircase. The pen fell out and went even further. Case has few dings from concrete. Phone is in perfect condition, so is the pen.

Broke my screen. Is 250 euro to fix it excessive?

Hello there
A few days ago I was using the public transport when my Note II fell on the ground. When my girlfriend asked if it was broken, I replied that the Note II was unbreakable. When I picked it up my screen was broken (karma hits player 1 for one million thousand trillion points). I mailed to the store I bought it from and they told me it would cost 250 euro's.
I'm wondering whether this is a normal price for a screen replacement.
Thank you for the replies!
Stores always want to rip you off! I have seen issues about screen on the galaxy s3 which obviously is different but almost the same. The glass can be bought for under $10 online and there are plenty of YouTube videos with instructions on how to do change it yourself. So to answer your question yes I think $250 is wayyyyy too much

If it were me, I'd attempt to fix it myself, after reading up extensively and making sure I had the right tools.
Only you can contemplate whether it's worth it for you, watch some YouTube and make a decision

The alternative is getting it fixed in a local 'foreign' shop here in my city. Not entirely reliable, but I have little to lose.

Did you ask if they were going to change just the front glass or the whole display such as glass+ digitizer+amoled? Because if it's just the glass then it would be a major rip off! It's not that simple to just change the glass since it glued with an adhesive and you'll need to be very careful when removing it.

Well they said they had to replace everything, which probably explains the hefty price tag.

I'd do some research before running to pay. These companies tell us w/e they want in hopes of making more money off customers

First of all. If the screen is scratched or broken but still works it means than the screen is not damaged. Only upper glass over screen is broken and you can buy one from ebay for 20$ and replace yourself by video tutorial on youtube. Anyway if you fail to repar it yourself you can anytime go and replace whole screen for 250 eur. But I think its worth to try to repair upper glass only if screen is still responding after damage.
