I've been a long time iPhone user, since the first one, and I just bought a Galaxy s3 and can honestly say I don't miss it at all. The new one is just more of the same....
This is probably going to get locked down real fast.....but its definitely a BIG dissappointment. Some of my friends are turning into hypocrites real fast saying they'll buy it. Especially when they told me"I don't need a bigger screen, 3.5 is more than enough" this was when I had the x10, captivate, nexus s etc. iPhone users need to wake up.

I was going to reply, just this..LOL so funny. I had every iPhone ever released until 3 weeks ago, got the GS3 and i couldn't be happier, iP5 is just a minor minor revision, playing catch up to the rest of the world.
The only feature I was eagerly looking forward to in the iPoop5 was NFC, but, nope, mobile payments are now set back a few years for everyone.

Actually, what we really need would be Google Wallet support for our GS3's without the hack-around. But we know that wouldn't work with Apple since they're now Anti-Google. Forget where i saw it... think it was on the news earlier, but i like how they put it. Something along the lines of "There is so much competition between Apple and Google, that Apple decided to recreate the world." in regards to Apple's new maps system.

So when the iphone comes out with a lighter feeling phone, it feels impressively light, when Samsung comes out with one with a lighter feeling, it feels cheap.

GS3 owner can have an opinion about other products specially if they are direct competitors, it is not about making he threat about OS vs OS, but general opinions about the product just announced.

Apple is at it again, same old phone design. Lame is what I think it is. Honestly, whats changed? Basically nothing besides LTE. The event was more of a " we sold a billion of these and a trillion of these, and oh yeah heres the new iPhone 5 we gave it a bigger scree, now go wait in line"

This.
Its almost impossible to get (cheap) nfc tags in Canada. I asked a Best Buy rep at the Eaton Centre store in Toronto a couple of days ago, and he had no idea what NFC was.
I was really hoping the new iphone would have it so that it would become 'mainstream', but guess we have to wait another year now. Also, doesn't help that stupid S Beam is incompatible with Android Beam (try transferring photos to any non-GS3 phone, it will fail..till we get updated to JellyBean)

i remember reading reviews almost 'ranting' about how light the galaxy s and galaxy s ii were. people were saying 'too light', 'does not feel premium because phone does not feel substantial in hand', 'iphone is perfect with high quality weight to it', 'sometimes not sure if in pocket or not'. something along those lines.
and i read this on a youtube comment but I think it could hold some truth. could Apple have not included nfc (even if it wanted to/why wouldn't they want to?), because it already finalized its aluminum design? fail.

The reason I was soo critical about it is because I need it to take note in class and always have it with me when I need to study.
i dont think a phone/tablet/any electronic device could ever replace pen/paper when it comes down to class and taking notes...not even a laptop. our brains learn best when we write things out, not just type them up and to take tons of class notes on a 5.55" screen is just silly...anyway, my s-pen was initially too sensitive and would register screen taps at times when I would only be hovering. following a fix in some thread, I probably love my phone more than all my other devices combined :good:

Guys - at the Sprint store the pen did not work for me AT ALL - the guys at the desk said "yeah, its not good - buy an iPhone 5 this thing sucks" - i bought it anyway, it works fine... CONFIRMING that at 3 stores I went to in order to find stock in Las Vegas, this was a problem and that with my device - no such problem.

While I do agree that paper and pen are the best, I actually saw a girl in my organic chemistry class who took all her notes on her iPad. She drew structures and wrote formulas with a cheap, standard capacitive stylus, typed out whatever she could type out, and took pictures of slides and a pasted them into her notes. I'm not sure what program she used, but it was quite impressive to say the least. Of course, I think it requires learning the programs inside and out and making sure you can use them efficiently.
I have a Nexus 7 and a Galaxy Note II and wouldn't use either one to replace a notebook and a good mechanical pencil. I'm also not motivated enough to try though either lol.
If you're gonna take notes, just do a Bluetooth keyboard... makes more sense.

No, My wife has had the Note 1 since it came out and people still ask her about it.
I love "the best phone I ever owned!" I am coming over from the Apple universe and although I am still learning my way around Android... I absolutely love this phone!
I moved up from an iphone 4s and just holding the iphone now makes me feel like I'm handling a baby mouse. I could NEVER go back to such a small screen. Honestly the Note 2 doesn't even look that big. I've already gotten used to the bump up in screen size. Problem is the market is saturated with "baby mice" and when a rat comes along they freak out.

It would be pretty neat to get the launcher/themes over to Android, though wouldn't it? The interface seems pretty cool.

Blackberry seems to be shooting to be just good enough with this phone. Dual core processor, 1 gb RAM and a smaller screen by today's standards seem like this is the device they are testing the waters with when really they should go for broke. Realistically this could be their last hurrah.
Personally I want to see them succeed. I dont think i will ever buy another blackberry, but a third strong OS would keep all systems innovating at a very high rate instead of encouraging stagnation.

Hd2 was able to run ICS before most android devices at the time. The webos tablet and blackberry was also able to run android. Doesn't surprise me the bb10 will too. A smartphone these days no matter the stock OS can in some way run android. Even the iPhone could run android and has in the past

I certainly hope it isn't their last anything.
Look, you might think the hardware isn't all there. That isn't the big picture. Watch your mind explode. No iPhone, no Android as we know it, No widgets, no Windows 8, and to come full circle, no blackberry, no iPhone.
Android will die one day. Blackberry might die too. Analyst are already predicting the iPhone's doom. But, BB only gives us more. The ideas that blackberry comes up with will enhance the android phones. Competition brings innovation. I hope blackberry does great and brings timely updates too. Imagine if all the other os's updated like Apple. Don't think for a second blackberry didn't take note to our fragmentation. They have the same 2 phones worldwide for a reason.
And don't think for a second our brand loyalty its less fickle than it is. We will jump ship in drones. Blackberry might not be leading the pack now. But, now is very relative.
So, i agree with everyone.

The only level of encryption approved by pretty much every government worldwide for their secure communications. Blackberry will still have it's place in corporate and gov't settings for a while yet, but I don't see the mass appeal that they want and need to regain their once dominant position. They would have to do something more eye-popping than what they did.
On a somewhat different note, what are thoughts that some others have about upcoming platforms? Firefox OS, Tizen, Ubuntu, etc... I read that Samsung will be releasing Tizen phones in Q3.

Well see...I'm happy with the direction android is going in so far. if anything, since iOS doesn't seem to be encouraging innovation with that boring stagnant ui and features, I would like a good third player in the market whoever it may be to keep Google on its toes and android moving along. You hit it right there that people prefer comfort thats why (since rim gave people PLENTY of time to get comfortable with android lol) I don't think they'll FLOCK but I agree there will be people willing to give it a shot and yeah it could actually catch momentum so all we can do is wait and watch haha I'm excited to see how the mobile landscape looks by the end of this year since it changes so rapidly
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
I believe android will remain dominant for many years to come I see bb10 as more of a threat to wp8. BlackBerry has made it easy to port over android apps meaning they could easily out shine wp quickly when it comes to apps. I also believe people will defect from android also but not in droves android will remain dominant if only for the choices you can get their is a device out their that fits everyone's needs
Here is a question? Will we need to buy the app again? I assume so. Honestly, both phones are appealing.
There was a good article today about the demise of phones. It could be a great thing. If the losers leave and the leaders cut back we might see more stellar phones from less manufacturers. Lg won't make 30 different phones a year. So, the 5 they end up making might get faster updates.
