[Q] does the magnet on the casing affect note 2 ? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i was trouble by this when i got my new casing for note 2 , at some point i cannot draw on the middle part on the right side with the S pen.
at first i thought the casing was too tight hence result "presure" on the phone so that i cannot draw on it ( i can draw on it using my finger), so i removed the case and everything is back to normal.
untill just now i finally realised it wasn't the casing , it was the magnet on the casing ( when i draw, i flip the cover to the back ). when the magnet get too close behind the screen, the S pen won't work on that area.
so here is my question. is it okay for the magnet to be so close to the phone , and will it affect the hard ware ( either S pen or the sensor in the screen ) ?
many thanks .

I have exactly the same experience. ...so now my phone is without a case. ..
Saving up to get the SGP case soon

The red big circles is where it is affecting my phone using the magnetic wallet case.

I had a case on for one day with a magnet clip on the right side of the screen and I noticed that the s-pen didn't work properly around that area. I can write there but hovering doesn't work too good.
I removed the case and it's been off for maybe less than 20 hours... But I still experience the problem and it also seems that when I'm using the GPS it can't fix on my location. It just jumps around on the map closely to where I'm located. Tried the same thing on my Note 1 and it found my location with no problem.
I think somehow the magnet from the case has affected something internally. I hope this is not permanent...

Ans: It obviously does.

Hello alls! Any Note 2 owners here have the Flygrip installed? Curious if there's any magnetic parts in the grip which could distort the compass. Thanks for reading!

Hm... Now I'm not sure the Note 2 behaved like it did because of the magnet.. I've tried several Note 2's in store and hovering on the screen around the sides only work if you have the S-Pen real close to the screen. The GPS works fine now, I think perhaps it was some settings I played around with with how to find my location.

I think so

The s pen's sensor in ur note 2 is some kind of magnetic sensor.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphics_tablet

I think it affects the s pen input, I have a mercury case with a magnet which is used to close the case, and now when I'm writing or drawing with the S pen, the input goes haywire at that area so sad seems permanent...

Do you mean that even without the case you still have problems?

[Q] S-pen dead spot on screen

hi all
i have a strange problem on my 1 day old note2
i have been playing with all the feature and have discovered a sort of dead area when using the pen
load up snote/memo or anything else using the pen
then on the right hand side when using the pen there is a square about 1cm in size that does not detect the pen when applying NORMAL pressure, using my finger its fine.. then to make it more odd if i apply i little more pressure it picks up the pen.. when applying pressure the line being drawn is more bold everywhere until i draw over the dead spot when it becomes a lighter line ie nor picking up the same pressure,,
i hope my very bad explanation is understood lol..
phone is 1 day old and i'm not sure if i have a fault or a bug
firmware is stock thailand

yes.. small unobtrusive one
just tested without case and no problem
confused
is there a thread about this issue .. looked but cannot see
Does your case have a magnet on the side of where your S-Pen does not work?
It happened with me as well.

yup.. thats the problem
having more info in hand google was my friend
:Apprarantly this problem occurs if you use a case with a magnet. The area will correspond with the location of the magnet.Samsung’s user manual clearly states not to use it with cases that have magnets. People have also commented on how this effects the internal compass too. Prolonged exposure will apparently result in the internals getting magnetized – no way out then!
People have reported that even after removing the magnetic case, it take between 24-48 hours for the effects to disappear. .!:
very worrying
i wonder if there is a way to block the magnet in the case from effecting the note..
otherwise its throw out the new case

S Pen - Is this normal?

I noticed today that my S Pen does not actually mark where I touch the screen. This is not that significant in portrait but it marks and points a very noticeably 3 mm above where my pen is actually pointed. Is this normal or is my S Pen/ Note defective?

If you are a lefty make sure you go to the S-pen settings and set it for left handed use

I hoping you find a solution thats exactly why I moved from the Note 1 to the SG3 since it was driving me nuts. I had been told the Note 2 does not have the issue so I was going to get my Note 2 later this week.
If you notice, hover the pen above the screen and push the spen inwards with your finger it writes without even touching the screen.

I must say that if that was the case I would go to AT&T and demand they fix it or give me a new one! (Same thing if it wrote before I touched the screen!!) I just tested both of these things and it marks exactly where I place the pen, and does not do so until I am actually touching the screen! (very lightly!) I paid way too much (even though it was only 199 that is still a lot 4 me!) for it not to work exactly as I want it!

I think it may have been in an app I was using, because it does not go into landscape. It is still not exact but I think that is just the way it works for human error. It works as far as I am concerned. I will test more before running to ATT

Spen fix
To fix the hovering issue u can pop off the spen button with an exact blade or a box cutter blade. You will see two pentiometers. Having the top point to the left, use a fine flathead screwdriver and turn it clockwise an 1/8th of a turn each time or to ur liking. The left pentameter is for sensitivity of the spen. And the right one decreases the distance and sensitivity of the pen of it hovering above the screen causing it to write automatically. There are posts on this matter however I can't find the link anymore. Just Google it. "how to decrease sensitivity of spen for note 2.". I did this to my brothers and my own spen already and all is well. Note the button when prying out WILL fly out so watch your eye and do this in a well lit and clean Area. To put the button back on, just insert the side closest to the tip of the spen first then click in the back side. Hope this helps us guys.

[Q] S-pen thickness different on edge

Hi,
Has anyone noticed or is my device somehow broken but it seems that when i draw near the left side of the screen it will be much more narrow than on center or right side. Defect screen maybe?
my friend had a similar problem, but in his case there was a circle the size of 1/10 the screen that did not respond to any pen input, he was sending it in for a replacement, it turned out that he had a magnetic cover(similar to the smart cover on the ipad) which somehow screwed with the spen input, as soon as he took off the cover everything worked normally, this might probably be your case too
This device has a "wacom" screen . It means thet if you press the s-pen the line is! thicker
try it open a s-note and drow 3 lines
1 realy press on the s-pen
2 normal presere
3 try to move the s-pen as lite as posible

Yeah i know. I tried to press little as possible or same amount but still it makes different thickness on left edge than center. I can make same amount on edge too, but i have to press much harder. I dont have any magnetic cover and this problem started suddenly when i was writing sms message.
Should the end of s-pen be bit loose?
Added after edit: There is little difference on thickness when i press really hard. Tried s-note and sms message. There is difference, but its really really small difference.

[Q] S-Pen not as sensitive on the right side of the screen?

I got a new case and I love it, but I've been having this problem where my S-Pen dramatically loses sensitivity on the right side of the screen (starting at around where the backspace button is on the keyboard) and I have to push a lot harder. When my stylus is touching down on the right side I can see my nib right under the tip, so I thought it might be that my case is lifting up my screen protector in a weird way. The thing is that works perfectly fine in responsiveness to finger touches and also doesn't look or feel like it's being lifted up at all. Maybe this could be related to something else? Has anyone else had this problem before?
Is it a flip case?

No, it's a metal case. I would post an image of it but I have less than 10 posts and am not allowed to post outside links. If you feel like looking it up, it's called " Samsung Galaxy Note 2 II Deluxe Ultra-thin Metal Aluminum Case Bezel Cover Back " on ebay
So, have you tried taking the case off and seeing if the problem persists? This would at least eliminate one variable.

Okay, so when I took the case off the screen worked fine, but then I tried a different S-Pen (with the case on) and it worked 100%. I guess that other S-Pen is just worn down?
Possible. Try tapping the pen on a hard surface. Not the point. Hold the pen like a hammer and rap it like you were hammering a nail. Not to hard and try it again.

problem w/ magnetic cover... help!

Okay so i recently got a galaxy note 10.1 2014 ed. and i bought this ivso case for it: ww.amazon.com/Samsung-Edition-Bluetooth-Keyboard-Portfolio/dp/B00FJTV0PG
I like the case and the detachable keyboard but what i cannot stand is the effects the magnets have on the tablet. It makes it auto wake, which i guess is kind of nice, but when i fold it back around behind the tablet, it always auto locks my tablet. It also will not let me drag the drop down notification bar from the top when it is folded around the back.
Anyways, i was wondering if anyone knew of any apps or settings to disable the effects of the magnets on the tablet? I've spent hours googling and trying out different apps and whatnot but nothing helps.
Thanks in adv,
betaPartier
What I did was get a sharp knife and take the magnet out. Stick a velcro instead.

I folded some papers and slip it underneath the tablet in the case. It block the magnet so it won't off the screen when u flip the cover to the back.
The pen holder strap that comes with the cover is too small to hold my Wacom stylus feel. So, I got some stretchable strap, loop it and staple it to the paper. Now I can slip my stylus comfortably attachedge to the cover.

Off topic, but how do you like the Wacom feel?
I'm thinking of getting one but I read that it is not as accurate as the default stylus, unless held at a 90 degree angle (!). Is that the case?
Sent from my SM-P600 using Tapatalk
There is a bit of offset. But it doesn't affect me much. Just write or draw like normal.
In apps like lecture notes, tgere is a setting where u can adjust the offset to make it accurate.

No. I ended up just getting a different case that doesn't have a keyboard. Since there's no magnetic keyboard, the magnets aren't nearly as strong and only affects the tablet when I open it, not when I fold it around the back.
Thanks for the speedy response. On close inspection I noticed that there is a small magnet on the front cover top left corner about 1 inch from the top. almost invisible but can find it when we run a coin over the surface of the front cover. When the back side of the note 10.1 meets this magnet, screen switches off. I noted that by placing a magazine/ booklet between the front cover and the back when using in flipped over mode: the screen does not switch off. A small victory. But wish that samsung provides a solution 2 disable this magnetic screen off feature through a menu option.
i have same problem and i fix it by take out magnate from cover. i hope found a better way for this problem
Did anyone find any way to turn off the magnetic lock and unlock function? When I backfold my cover (aftermarket), it automatically locks my tab. Which is very irritating. I have Samsung galaxy tab S5e
You'd think that the guys who make these cases would just add a small amount of padding over the magnet so it only activates the sensor on the one side... To simple an idea I guess...
