[Q] which kernel? - Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660

Hi,
my phone-info states that I have this kernel: 2.6.35.7-perf-CL783107 [email protected]_dev-pc#1
Which one is this? Are there better kernels available? Can I flash a kernel without resetting the phone or whatever? and is a kernel included in an nandroid backup?
I know, a lot of questions about kernels , trying to understand
cheers

Which is the best kernel for the Stock Rom for Overclock

Hello.
Can you help me please?
Which is the best Kernel to overclock my wildfire using the stock rom. (Phone is already rooted). I'm seeing that there are some kernel that present problems with wifi and GPS, anyone know's which doesn't give this problems?
If I don't like the kernel, is there any way to get back to the stock kernel?
Thanks a lot in advance!
Go to rempuzzle thread in the dev section and read the first post. You will find rempuzzle kernal (overclockable) and the stock one both as flashable zips.

[Q] Question about kernel

All devs please help, I have a question. This question is about the kernel. Can you change the kernel of a ROM without changing ROMs.
Thank you for your help.
Not a dev, but yes. Download your kernel of choice and flash in recovery after wiping dalvik and cache.

Yes. Just make sure you flash a Sense kernel on a Sense ROM, and a AOSP kernel on a AOSP ROM.

Yes you can and like Fin said, make sure to read the whole op before flashing the kernel, theres alot more to it than just flashing a kernel and even though it says its for AOKP or JB,make sure its made for your rom and alot of devs add different governors and voltage regulators to their kernels, make sure to look at that also,so you can get the best battery life, but at the same time you might want speed, theres alot of things to look for and concider before using a OC kernel, the main thing, follow close directions and if your not sure about something, ask first before bricking your phone.

Simple Little Questions thats bugging the **** out of me.

Do i have to have a rom to get a new kernel. Thats the first question the others will be after this one is answered. Thanks in Advance
It really depends if the kernel supports the phone and rom. Most kernels only work if the rom supports that kernel. Take cyanogenmod for example. If you were to flash cm that has stock 3.0 kernel, you can't use the 3.4 kernel or above unless the rom supports it. If you want a more recent kernel then you'd have to flash a rom that supports it.

You need to be rooted with custom recovery to flash a kernel. But, you can use the stock rooted rom. Does that answer?
Also, if you stick with stock rom, or any touchwiz rom, can only use touchwiz kernels. If you want aosp kernels, need to be on an aosp rom.

[Q] Which kernel to choose

Hi, I know this is a bit of a noob question, but I want to flash a new kernel, and I don't know which kernels are safe to flash. I'm running CM 10.1 Wild for the Night with CWM 6.0.3.3 . I have a EL29 modem and the current kernel is something like 3.0.64-CM-q31f128d. As to why I want to flash a new kernel it's because I have an audio problem (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2374061) and other people with the same problem, but the GT-I9100 version of the s2, have reported it fixed by flashing the dorimanx kernel. However, I can't flash that one because it's only for the GT-I9100 right? So my question is which kernel can I flash?
I believe the only current AOSP kernels are the standard CM one (and its derivatives) and the LightningZap kernel. The CM one is the standard one in most of the AOSP ROMS.

Yeah I believe the cyanogenmod one is what I currently have. Is it possible to flash the LightningZap kernel using Mobile Odin while keeping my current Cyanogenmod 10.1 setup? Thanks for the quick reply!
As long as there is a tar for it, yes. If they have a zip, you can flash from your current custom recovery. Either way nothing will change but kernel and recovery.

[Q] Question about flashing kernels

Greetings fellow humans,
I'm currently running Cyanogenmod, but am looking into flashing Embryo, Jedi Mindtrick, or one of the other Touchwiz based ROMS. I notice that they are running off of different kernels, but reading the instructions it seems like the different kernel is packaged with the ROM. Is this correct, or do I need to flash the kernel separate from the ROM itself?
Nevermind. I figured it out, I think. Some have kernels installed, others don't. You need to read which ones have kernels installed, and do separate installations for those that do not.
Most xda developers will give u optional kernels to install with there rom. The kernel should be flash with from. Radio- Rom- kernel- Gapps

Great, I'll keep that in mind as experiment with different ROMS.
