I just purchased a used DINC for my son and before I give it to his I was planning on rooting it and upgrading to ICS. It sounds like CM10 is still somewhat buggy, so I think CM9 would be best for him. What CM9 would you suggest to put on the DINC? I am running CM9 on my DINC2 and it is like having a new phone!
Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated!!!

If you are adamant about using CM9 over CM10, I was running the invisiblek version of CM9 and it was very stable. The 9/3 version of that ROM did have a broken camera, for stills, but is easily fixed with the files linked in post 565 of that thread. The video camera is broken but that seems to be par for the course with the INC on ICS or JB. I think I also used MX Player (free) for video playback. If you are new to the INC, you may also want to look at the ext4all mod and incredikernel for ICS.

I made the jump to CM10(pons) from CM9 last week and I would say both are equally stable. The issues with vid recording/playback were present on the few ICS and JB roms I tried, so I might suggest trying CM10 with a couple of sideloaded apps if your son wants to watch/record videos. If it isn't to his liking, you might have to look at CM 7.2 as the alternative.

This is why the best CM9 is CM10. Everything that was working in CM9 is working in CM10, no reason to stay behind on CM9. If you want everything working, stay on CM7.
This has been explained before in many threads, shouldn't need to be explained again.
Thread closed. Best and most stable ROM are both completely subjective statements so these types of thread have no place outside of this thread in General which was allowed to stay to take place of lots of people asking this same question as that thread is just a thread for opinions.
Best thing is to try and see what's best and most stable for your use and has the functions you want. Most ROM's have a changelog with list of what's working and what's not so that's the first place to start reading if you don't want to test many out.
Thanks

I think the title says it all....
I'm probably going to flash an ICS rom once they are out of Alpha.....
But for now.. thinking about moving over to plain jane Android... probably using ADW EX to theme it out like ICS (since ADW has the nice folder action)....
So people's opinion.. best NON SENSE Rom at the moment?
Latest Cyan? Bugless? The Kang'd one in the development thread? Another I don't know about?
Chime in... all opinions welcome (I would like to know "why" you are stating what you are though)...
p.s. no flaming others on this please It's purely opinions.. everyone is entitled...
p.s.s. any kernel advice is welcome as well
Seriously use Evervolv ICS rom preview 5. I am using it as my daily driver. I posted links to the rom, exchange.apk fix and gapps on rootzwiki. As I am not allowed to post links on xda at the moment you would have to go to rootzwiki.
What's not working on it? I take pics of my niece all the time (she's 4) so I need a working camera... don't care about video though....
Also I use this for navigation.... and part of where I drive is kinda crappy service.. so I have been using Navigon for those areas and the maps are on the SD card...
Also full bluetooth needed... as my car stereo has bluetooth and a mic behind the steering wheel....
edit: just tried.. and camera doesn't do panoramic.. only 4:3.... don't really care about video.. but want the other... so original question still exists.
Best NON SENSE Rom? Anyone?
I use Inc-Deck its a modified CM7, I think it feels a little less "fat" than cm7.
Bugless is also a stout option, either or.
Edit: To go back a ways OMGB is a solid rom, it was my daily for at least 2 months straight.
Got a link to Inc-Deck? I may be blind but I'm not seeing it in the development section... Mostly I want to get used to stock before a ICS build is ready for primetime...

It's tweaked just enough to make it feel a bit smoother than cm7 and it comes with the stock launcher. Also I'm not too sure about the bluetooth on this, I never use it but I haven't seen anyone complain about it.
Happy Flashing!
Give MIUI a try. I recently switched after using CM for about a year and am really happy with it. I think the ROM is much better than CM, although I hated the iPhone look to the ROM but I just use GO Launcher and go back to what my CM homescreens looked like. There are a few things I miss from CM, but overall really happy with MIUI
I flash a new rom about every day but cm9 has held me for a while so that would be my current daily that i would suggest to give a try to.
I've been playing around with my girlfriends incredible trying to get a decent 4.0 rom. I just put on AOKP M5 (what I use for my nexus) and it seemed fine until she tried to use her gallery, which glitches and crashes often.
Are there any relatively problem free ICS roms for the incredible now? I was thinking of trying CM9 next but I'd like to know if its stable first so she doesnt have to go through the hassle of setting up her phone again unnecessarily.

does she care about the camcorder or netflix? if not, i would recommend CM9 kang by drk.hd, link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1558923
You can download the app videocam illusions from the play store, and that'll work as a camcorder. Other than that, near 100% stable and bug free, it's only gonna keep getting better from here.

Abduction 2.0a9 was the most stable of the ones I've used. I never had any forced restarts and I believe the gallery works fine. You will need to flash the camera fix that's floating around though.
The only problem with it is battery life, but you can supposedly fix that by using one of the hwa-enabled incredikernel betas.
+ one for CM9.. more active development stable except minus the stock camcorder..
Abduction is OK.. mostly stable but development is dead.. and its used as an advertisement for a useless competing forum in which u have to check along with XDA for updates.... it gets old.
But all the rooms are ASOP.. so they all have the same inherit flaws.... camera and flash usually broken..

Just to respond about the gallery. If the ONLY issue she has is the gallery, use "QuickPic." If there are additional issues then count me as another vote for the unofficial CM9.
So my upgrade is coming up on November 1st, and I will be looking into getting a new phone in the near future, and I am finally done waiting for this ICS update that isn't coming from HTC. I was wondering if there are any fully functioning roms for the Incredible 2, or if anyone can tell me the one that is closest to fully working. Of course looking for something ICS or above and appreciate any suggestions on where I should begin...

I have not tried Psycho's CM9 Global yet, but I hear it is pretty much fully functional except for the FFC is upside down or something...I have tried their CM10 Global and it is a smooth running rom, just a couple of little bugs they are working out. Mimicry CM9 based rom is almost fully functional...only thing not working that I know for sure is the FFC. Those are the only roms I have tried recently. I have also read that the Viper Sense rom is pretty good too, but it is Sense 4. I prefer the Paranoid Android, but there are some camera issues with it and a couple of other small bugs that don't affect me that much so I never notice them. Other than that I am out of suggestions, I have not tried UKB, MIUI, or any of the other roms that I hear are great roms.

I started with aeroevan's CM9 ROM and it was terribly slow and pretty buggy. I had to reboot it at least once a day. I'm now running Psycho's CM10 Global and it's actually been really great, aside from the nonfunctional FFC, graphic tearing with Chrome, and unstable Bluetooth. Also, the CM10 Global ROM has an issue where after locking the phone it will take 1-2 seconds before allowing you to unlock again.

IC Tazz has been flawless for me. I tried CM9 and CM10 for a few weeks, they work pretty good but are not 100%.
I'm using the new viper Rom. In the past I've always preferred sense tho. Viper is nice. But I prefer my own non sense widgets. So my phone basically looks the same as it did when running cm10. So I'm not sure what the point of staying on viper. Must say battery life is impressive, especially for a sense Rom. Battery life was one reason why I hated sense. But then my phone doesn't really look like sense anyways since I'm using all the same widgets as I did w aosp. *confused*

Haha, I can understand that. I've only been around this one for the past few months. Seriously, thanks for the reminder. I won't forget next time haha
for an ics rom, i gotta say viper sense is the most bug-free. both the ffc camera and rear cameras work fine, and you can shoot fine in 720p HD recording, a problem with many other roms.
this was one of the main problems i had with most CM's and aosp roms was that the stock camera sucked. it didnt even compare to the sense camera and pictures looked they were taken with a basic phone. the viper sense camera was great, maybe even better than stock.
as for bugs, i think the only thing was that taking a picture while recording didnt work, i dont think its supposed to though cuz the inc2 isnt designed for it? also for some reason after a reboot it changed from cdma to gsm, and i think the only way to change that it running the aroma installer again.
I'm no expert or developer but there is quite a few Roms that I have found a pretty stable that could be used as a daily driver with no problem. If you're not rooted I recommend trying it and giving some Roms a test run and seeing what you like before ditching your inc2 its a whole new experience.

Fully functional eh? Both dkstunna and Aerovans cm9 & 10 both run nicely. Just have to make some changes depending on your carrier but youll find the solutions by reading the threads. But don't forget most roms are like that woman in the red light district. She's pretty and fun and can do a lot but there is also something under that skirt that is fully functional.

It's been a pretty solid experience for a few months now.
Condemned Sense's Stock Build Odexed.
Depends on your definition of "fully-functional." For me that means everything that the stock ROM has including FFC, rotating softkeys, 720P camcorder, wifi-tethering, etc. Most of the ROMS listed (excluding stock ROMS) so far have issues with at least one of these things. I don't consider a mentality of "living with minor bugs" consistent with "fully-functional."
Personally my list would include:
- any of the the "standard" Sense 2.1 Gingerbread ROMs like GingerSense, SkyRaider Zeus, etc. (they all use the official 2.65 kernel specifically built for GB)
- Arctic Ascension 2.02 (aka IC Tazz 3.6) - Sense 3.6 using the leaked Chinese v3.x OTA kernel - everything including the stuff I mentioned works on it. It even includes features not even the stock ROM has such as automatic 3G switching when sending and receiving MMS messages.
Try CM 7.2, it was the first rom i flashed. the battery life is extraordinary and it runs fast like hell! only problem is its a bit old fashioned.
I'm currently running ViperSense 1.1, but its just slightly slow because its using a stock kernel
Thanks everyone for taking the time to give me this information. I have been busy but plan to look into these very soon! Much appreciation!
Miui 1.12.9 with Aerovan's 0.7 CFS kernel.
I'm running CM9 with no real problems. Is it worth switching to CM10 and Jelly Bean? Is there more problems with JB than ICS for the dinc and dose the video work on JB? I know it is more demanding on the cpu but is the preformance worse than ICS?

What defines video? I mean you can see what does and what doesn't work easily in the CM10 thread. It also doesn't take long to make a nandroid and test JB out. There's also other threads about it's performance and if it's the best, etc. CM10 is worth it to me and quite a few others.
TLDR: Flash it and see for yourself.
I've read so much information it just gets confusing. Sometimes it seems when I try to improve on something I wind up messing up my phone. Yeah i could record video in mov. format format but it's a hassle. Which version of cm10 are u running? I read that on some roms have a problem reading SD card.

Honestly, just flash it and try it. If it doesn't work for you, you now know. The SD card problems were never in CM, but in Rom Manager, which has been fixed and isn't even included anymore in CM.

I agree just try it. For me there was no comparison between the performance of CM9 and CM10. CM10 was much better.
CM 10 seems better for me. Even when some of the function like video camera not works so well but still i prefer CM 10. And you better try yourself. since nandroid backup and TB was invented i never afraid for switching and testing roms

I was using CM9 for a while and decided to try out CM10(pons) last week and will stick with it going forward. Video recording isn't a big deal to me and YouTube does flicker a little but it's not that bad. Other than that it seems as responsive as, or more than, CM9(invisiblek) for how I use my phone.

I have to agree with just giving cm10 a try. Pons' builds are excellent. Google Now is also cool. Download goomanager and use twrp for the best experience.

Make a nandroid and try it. Its really, really good. I have had almost no problems, it is super fast, and everything seems to work(except video recording). It also supports OTA updates which is cool but you will need TWRP recovery.
I just moved to cm10 yesterday and so far I really like it. I say give it a shot and see what you think.
I say go for it! I first went with the AOSP RC3, but it was very very laggy. I switched to Pon's CM10, and it is absolutely amazing. It is as smooth and fast as my HTC Evo 3D which has a dual-core processor and more than double the RAM!
I highly, highly recommend CM10!
I was very impressed when I switched to the CM10 builds from CM9, CM10 is much smoother in my opinion.

There's so much I want to say. But instead, I will say this:
This device is only officially supported through Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread). Any Android versions past that do not have official drivers, so they would have to be built from scratch, for a device that has been EOL for quite a while. Thus, your statement "where everything works the way it should" doesn't make sense, as the device doesn't officially support running ICS or JB.
That being said, all of the ICS/JB ROMs suffer at the very least the same list of things not working - FFC, 4G, HDMI out, Netflix. Videocam can also be an issue on some. So, based on your criteria, you'll be sticking to Sprint-based Gingerbread Sense ROMs .

Not sure why all the sighing and such but thanks for the info. It's hard to tell because it's not always clear what people base a ROM on and it seems like only about half the people posting ROMs list what doesn't work. I was hoping there might be a cynagenmod 9 or 10 for it at some point but it doesn't seem likely.

To me finished means things work. I mean what makes it finished? Just that you are able to install it on the phone? If that were the case there was a finished version more than a year ago. Obviously cyanogen doesn't think it's finished either otherwise they would make it official.

That's not what makes a CM build official or not. But I'm not going to bore you with facts you can find via Google. And yes, everything that can/should work work. But there are updates to drivers that can make things work better, or tweaks here and there that can be done. Besides the fact that Google releases updates/patches that need to be included.
Since I answered your original question, I will now digress.
Lol how many times a week are people going to ask about ics and jb builds with everything working, or official HTC releases without looking for themselves first before realizing they don't and wont ever exist. Yes they are finished, they boot, make calls, get data, the only things that dont work on em are 4g and FCC. Just unroot your phone and forget about it, you aren't cut out for this business son.

You need to assess just how important some features are to you. If you only have an Evo, and somehow don't have an upgrade on your plan, then you have 2 options.
1: Keep it stock, everything works. No hassle, just poor battery life. Maybe get Superuser and remove the adware/junk if you feel like it.
2: Use a custom ROM which will not have working 4g, FFC, and other features that you won't know they don't work until you go to use them.
Weigh the pros and cons and make a choice, but everyone here so far is correct. The device is EOL and there will most likely never be a working ICS/JB build that has all features working. That would require too much work, for an EOL device.

If you must have all radios and hardware of the EVO 4G fully functional, you should stick with a gingerbread ROM v 2.3.5 or later. MikG 3.11 is a Sense based ROM that is well integrated and fully supports all EVO 4G operations. You can download MikG 3.11 at http://themikmik.com/showthread.php?10338-MikG-v3-11-3-9-2012.
As others have indicated, no ICS or Jellybean ROM supports 4G or the FFC. Sadly the necessary work for the hardware drivers is not likely to happen. If you do not require working 4G or FFC, there are a number of fully functional Android 4.0.4 (ICS) or 4.1.2 (Jellybean) ROMs available. I happen to like HALO Series II Nova http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903469&page=33 and AlienMOD Solar Flare Series V http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086163 with the caveat that I am experiencing some tint issues with camera applications in these ROMs.

Try jmztaylor's unofficial CM9. It's my daily driver, and it's solid. 4G doesn't work, but Wifi, Youtube, and the camera all work perfectly.
