honesly I havent rooted or unlocked my bootloader yet, i dont really have a sense of urgency. at least not till aosp roms drop.
my question is, now that the boot loader has been cracked. we should expect an untethered recovery right?
also, from what i undrstand. i have to root first, then boot loader unlock, then i can flash the tethered recovery, right?
When you root and unlock the bootloader using the methods in the dev threads it will put in CWM.

I honestly have no idea what tethered version is, I am assuming you can only get into it by plugging your phone in and running some type of cmd? If so, then its untethered cause I can use it anywhere.

Can you wipe, back up, etc? Exactly how did recovery wind up on your device? I'm confused.

The Freegee bootloader unlock process installs it for you. You can wipe, mount, flash.... it gave me an error when I tried to back up but i'm pretty sure that can be done too.

You have to backup up to internal sd card or something like that, it's a few lines down from the normal backup.

Titanium backup needs root. You cannot make a nandroid backup without root/custom recovery either. Unless you found a way around the bootloader, you need to unlock it before you have root access. So, you're in a pickle.
Honestly, I'd say to just use the built in screenshot function to save what your screens look like. Rely on the Market auto-restore feature to make the restoration quicker, and set it up over again.
If you want to save your texts, use SMS Backup and Restore (free app). Save your images and vid to your computer to stick back on there after.
Good luck!
Wait a minute...
Couldn't you just flash clockwork mod through fastboot without root?
Or does fastboot only work once unlocked?
Sorry if I sound ignorant, I don't know the answer myself because I unlocked immediately. Therefore I don't know what would happen if you were to try and flash CWM via fastboot while locked.
Anyone know?

You have to unlock the bootloader in order to make changes to recovery.
With the bootloader locked, it won't let you make any changes to system image files.
On other phones, there are exploits available to trick the phone into unlocking the bootloader. On Nexus devices, all you have to do is "fastboot oem unlock"
Nothing bad will happen if you try to flash it with the bootloader locked. It'll just simply deny you the access to override the existing recovery with the one you wish to flash.
My last post may have been a little long winded, so I'll keep this one short. Has anyone here successfully used the ta backup and restore function in flashtool? And is it similar to a nandroid? I've searched everywhere for info on this, but it's a fairly new feature.
Thanks

My bootloader is not unlockable. Hopefully it will be soon.
Edit: Reading the cwm thread, doesn't say anything about needing an unlocked bootloader. However there are a ton of people saying it is not very stable. In the mean time I'd like to modify the remove bloatware script on here in case i need to restore from ftf.

Will there eventually be an app for unlocking the bootloader on the 10.3 firmware? I don't have the factory cable and it sounds like a lot of people have bricked their device doing the downgrade to 10.2.
I hope so. I am not gonna even try it... Lol instead rooted it and used Kindlefree app to install Nova and used titanium backup. So it's "like" Android but not quite lol....

But if I downgrade my bootloader I won't have to use the whole 2nd bootloader method and all that right? Won't I then just be able to use some utility to flash TWRP and then flash a ROM? This Kindle thing is probably a little more intimidating than anything else I've messed with. I have mine rooted and a bunch of other hacks but I want pure Android on. I don't want a brick though..

What about all that craziness I have been reading about locking up the bootloader due to the 10.3.1 bootloader? I can just forget about that and install that apk file and THEN I would be able to flash a ROM via TWRP? I thought that the thread said that this tool said it was for the old bootloader. So, it looks like I have screwed something up. This figures as my luck is terrible with this freegin Kindle. So I got TWRP recovery working fine. I DL Cyanogenmod 10.1 and Gapps accordingly. Went into TWRP of course made a backup, then went to flash. I wiped EVERYTHING and went to flash the ROM. I received the error <Could Not Open .zip> So now I have nothing on file except a bad .zip. I did re-download the ROM assuming it was bad and restored my TWRP backup. Now I am stuck in what appears to be a Kindle Bootloop. The Kindle Fire (Orange) logo comes up, a few seconds later it blinks back off again and recycles. Now what? I can't get the Kindle to boot so I can put the .zip back on the machine. I am STUCK. This sucks... :crying:

I did the exact same thing when i got my kindle back in January. (Yeah, i had to order my cable right after that )
For some reason I've never been able to restore a stock TWRP backup on the kf2. It always borks the bootloader.
I know there is a special requirement that our bootloader uses a file called stack on the system partition- that's why you can't get into recovery now (when you wiped the system it wiped the stack file which let's us run the second bootloader.)
Anyway, Once you have the fastboot cable its really easy to get things going again. Pm me if you need a hand.. I've been through this myself a few times lol.
If you ever end up in the same situation again where you wiped the system and the zip is bad... Stay in twrp and use "adb sideload" to push a good zip from pc.

you didn't flash it on this phone, if you did you discovered something new.
there is a reason why all the splash screens tutorials are flashed in fastboot RUU (I did a lot of testing when I first made the splash screens.). It would be great though to be able to put on root of internal using the .zip, much easier and ppl won't need a CPU.
PH98IMG is for the Rezound also..? That phone had an SD-Card Slot..
This one doesn't, I tested every # for our phone on the internal and nothing, if you can get it that'd be great, but from what I've read and seen, it's not possible on a phone without an SD-Card Slot.

That is probably because you changed something. If you remove any system apps or make any changes to the system and re-lock it will soft brick. It has to be untainted for the relock to work. That's why you're supposed to make a backup before making any changes and then restore the backup before re-locking the BL.
