anyone haev their tether working on 4.2? wifi tether, built in tether, and all other 3rd party apps dont work anymore. it was working on 4.1.2 but not on 4.2.
Wifi-tether working straight away here, I just enabled it and my computer connected straight away.
I did however install 4.2 with a full wipe, it seems people using the OTA have had plenty of bugs non of which I've experienced.

Mines not working :crying:
Seems to be a common problem over at the Wireless Tether for Root Users development site :-/
I use it a ton and miss it badly.
mine seems to be broken too how weird

any update on this? works on macs but not windows or xbox.
I was using a AOKP ROM with lean kernel (4.1.x) and wifi tethering was working fine.
I then went to 4.2.1 and 4.2.2, WiFi tethering so far has been broken.
I tried Bigxie's deoxed, tried Android Revolution HD 10.x, and Rootbox's 4.2.2 nightly with the same result where WiFi tethering doesn't work. In my case, the client that is trying to connect will connect, IP is assigned but it won't be able to access the internet.
The ROM flashing were a full wipe, as well as dirty wipe - made no difference.
I was using Pdanet on a USB tether and it no longer works after update. My phone is totally stock with no mods. I did a factory wipe and reinstalled everything and still a no go. PC is a Windows 7 box with all associated drivers reinstalled. Contacted June fabrics (Pdanet Dev) about it and they think its a driver issue.

I also have these threads gpoing on it. Though you will get better support here than at the Google Dev forums.

For anyone that is interested, I got an email from PDAnet yesterday that says they have fixed the problem with a new PC side software install. I don't know if this helps any of you but there is a fix out there at least for PDAnet.

Hello,
I an running stock rooted 4.2.2 on vzw gnex. I have been using wifi tether since I got the phone and now with 4.2.2 it is not working. I get started with errors warning. log shows failed to configure AP and start AP.
I tried MWALT2s disable of native tether check which seem to run fine in recovery but I still get the same errors.

Has anyone with stock rooted 4.2.2 been able to get wifi tether working?
Thanks,

the wifi tether app no longer works but the built-in tether does. there's a copy of a modified version of wifi tether floating around (actually, in this Q & A forum thread!) that some are saying does work but I have not tested it myself (yet)
{edited to add} well, I just installed the hacked version of wifi tether and it works perfectly. the link to it is here in the Q & A thread so you should be able to find it. you will need "unknown sources" checked to allow it to install...
I'm currently using Stockorama ROM version 2(4.1.2) on my T-Mobile GS3. However, the VPN Service seems not working. The native client for PPTP and IPsec works fine, but any kind of app I download for OpenVPN does not work at all. I'm currently using VPN service by Private Internet Access, and it used to work fine on stock ROM, but after installing Stockorama it stopped working. I checked to see if TUN was present with TUN.ko, and it is there.
I tried out 3 apps. OpenVPN connect, OpenVPN for Android, and VPN for Private Internet Access.
All three fails to work. OpenVPN connect, and OpenVPN for Android both claims that this version of Android does not support, and PIA app just don't respond at all.
Is there a way to fix this? Please help.
The rom may have something removed that is required.
Dif you search the rom thread for similar problems?

I searched the rom thread to see if there was any VPN related issues, but I found none. However, I managed to fix it. Turns out, the Samsung's VPN Client app was required to have VPN Service API activated. On my previous install, I chose not to install that app when I was installing the rom with Aroma installer. However, when I tried reinstall with that app, few other VPN apps started working again(PIA, OpenVPN for Android). The 'OpenVPN Connect' still did not work saying that I need to install certification, but anyways I got the ones I need to work.
Thanks for the reply!
I dirty flashed Stockorama 2 and selected VPN Client from Samsung during install config and it works now. Thanks :good:
No luck with the wifi tether app, log shows errors.
When using foxfi self service will come up saying i need a subscription to add or something like that so no go there.
BUT...
I can get PDAnet via foxfi to work for USB tethering, AND do wifi share to connect other wireless devices to my phone!
A bit of a hassle but if you have a computer at least you can USB tether to broadcast your phones internet.
I ask though has anyone found a way to get wifi tether to work WITHOUT having to use USB tethering??
I'm not on 4.3; I'm waiting for either for deoxidezed rooted stock rom upload and wait till the official release and it being deoxided rooted stock.
I have found that WiFi tether can be a nickpicky about busybox, especially wihich version is installed. The last version that worked well for me was v1.20.2 linusyang. Anything after that I found to cause to errors. I think it has something to do with kernal, which I'm using Perseus. I get issues with STweaks because of it as well.
It may be worth trying a previous/different busybox install and see what happens. WiFi tether does use Busybox.

Root is done, but can't get wifi tether working on stock JB 4.3 on T-Mobile. I tried both Wifi Tether Router and Wifi Treve Mod 3.3 pre, but they don't work. It seems like the issue is on the mobile hotspot installed which cannot be uninstalled on any apps: tried Titanium, Root App Delete, Root Explorer and other. Please help. ROM flash was not needed on JB 4.1.2.
None of the wifi tether apps work on 4.3 ( I mean NONE!, lol). The way I got around it was to root the 4.3 and flash a 4.1.2 rom that has the hot spot hacked built in. I used JEDI X18 and the built in hot spot worked with no issues. Hope this helps.

I am trying to root my AT&T S3 i747 OS-4.3. I followed the instructions to flash CWM Recovery from this website http://www.theandroidsoul.com/lates...tt-galaxy-s3-sgh-i747-android-4-4-compatible/ but it doesn't seem to work. In Odin3 it says that it passed but when i try to boot up CWM recovery it still boots up android recovery. Any suggestions or another route to root my phone that doesn't require a wipe? My end goal is to install a tether app that works on phone. I currently have FoxFi but the update to 4.3 broke the wifi mode.

Once you are on 4.3, the common methods of rooting don't always work. You may, however, try method #2 posted in the thread below. I have found that to always work. Using this option will not wipe your data but you are advised to back up frequently. Also before rooting your phone, I would suggest you check to be sure that is really necessary. Most apps, including non Play Store apps, can be installed simply by going to your phone settings and enabling installing of apps from other sources. Root would be required primarily for apps or installations that make changes to your phone's OS.

No, that's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is that a Wi-Fi tether app (or any other app for that matter) may still work on an unrooted phone as long as it doesn't need to make changes to your phone's operating system. Wi-Fi tethering from Open Garden inc, for instance, is available as an app from the play store and this can be installed on an unrooted phone.

Ok i understand now. Do you happen to know if Wi-Fi tethering from Open Garden inc works on the i747 on Android 4.3?
I was able to root my phone but i am unable to find a WiFi tether app that works on i747 OS 4.3 root. Any suggestions?
