well actually come to think of it there is a way.. like when i flashed a custom rom the option was hidden..so i used the combo to make it visible but i didnt need to since usb debugging was already on, so if that is the only think you use in dev settings its possible to let it remain hidden and have debugging on

Go to settings - apps then the all tab. Scroll to settings and clear cache and data. Should be hidden again. You'll lose signal for a minute or so but after that it's back to normal

If you already root and don't want to losing your settings just install root explorer..open it and navigate to data/data/com.android.settings/shared_prefs/development.xml..edit and change value "true" to "false"..save and exit..then delete development.xml.bak..after that go to settings>apps>all>Settings..open it then force stop..then open Settings app to check it..voila! developer options disappeared!

Hide developer options mod
Thanks phadly!
I was searching for a solution just like the one you have suggested.
Based on your answer I have made a small mod that hides the developer options - All it does is replacing the development.xml file with one that contains a 'false' value, and setting the right permissions. I tested it on my Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9500 and it work perfectly.
If anyone want to use the mod, it can be downloaded from here - flash it with CWM/TWRP etc.

Use case: I just put CM11 on a friend's Nook Tablet but I want to hide it so she can't go in there and somehow do something to make it explode...because she will find a way. I don't want ADB access ever getting turned off in case I need to try and save the device and that's the only way I can talk to it. I also want to take away Advanced Reboot so she doesn't get into recovery. So, there ya go Thanks for those who posted those methods to do this.

you could just clear the settings app data and it would go away.

Antone knows how to hide de home menu settings?

The Clear Data button is greyed out. Why??
It's never been greyed out on my previous phones. This is an LG V20.

Capacitive Buttons

Any way to completely disable them? Running AOKP and would like a Nexus-like experience. I know we can disable the lights, I don't want them to work at all.
Get a button remaper app and remap it to focus for all 4 keys.

Get a root explorer. and either mod/delete System > Usr > Keylayout > melfas_touchkey.kl
I would delete it. Then they shouldnt work at all.
EDIT: you are going to have to delete more than just that one. I believe you are going to have to edit Generic.kl and possibly qwerty.kl as well. Let me extract them and look at them side by side in notepad++
Okay here flash this attached file and you should be golden. ive edited all appropriate files.
Thanks for the zip, it works perfectly.

Nope the zip just disables the ability to press them. Lights and everything else controlling them will well should still work. The zip just says to android that search menu back and home buttons aren't available. Just the same as a galaxy nexus or tablet would.

You should probably make a little thread with that enabler/dis-abler zip in the apps section of t989 because i'm sure there are alot more people that would find this very useful..

I pressed "install" for tasker and didn't realize it was a paid app, lol I'd rather not spend 6.50$ for a simple toggle, but thanks for the suggestion (s) XD

The settings in Better Wifi on/off do exactly that. Mine is set to only stay on with whitelisted SSID. There is an off if not connected, and many other settings. I think you missed some settings in the app.

[REF] How to enable dev options in 4.2

1. Go to the settings menu, and scroll down to "About phone." Click on it.
2. Scroll down to the bottom again, where you see "Build number."
3. Tap it seven times. After the third tap, you'll see a dialog that says you're four taps away from being a developer.

Interesting that they decided to make dev settings hidden like an easter egg.
probably due to people messing with it and wondering why apps start crashing
Any other hidden settings ?
Very strange, but good to know. Thanks!

Howto Hide Developer Options?

Hi,
I needed to use ADB to root my wife phone. Once done, I'll like to Hide the Developer Options as she will never need that option. It's safer that way, as I suppose I can make "Developer Options" visible again using the 7 taps trick.
Thanks for any help.

Woman. What did I tell you about pushing buttons you didn't understand.
Factory reset and don't unlock it again. You'd probably want to reset anyway between users.

So then it appears that the 7 taps trick can only Un-hide "Developer Options" but cannot hide it again. Too bad.
I wonder why this "7 taps" could not be designed as a kind of toggle.
You can deactivate them if that's enough for you (and if you haven't already seen the option).
Just go to the developer settings and in the top right corner you should have an on-off switch.
Clear data on the settings app

nexus 4, 4.2.2, no root.
Long tap on Settings in the app list, drag it into "App info" at the top.
Clear data ... poof ... Developer options is hidden again.

That's a geek worthy trick thanks very much. BTW, the Slim Bean ROM seems to do a little bit different. If I turn Settings / Developers Options off. The item disappears from Settings automatically. Seems to make more sense than the behavior of stock JB.
