[Q] OTA question - Sprint LG Optimus G

Hello,
I hope this is the place for this.
My device did the OTA by itself.
the only thing that was changed is software version from E97010l to E97010o. rest of the parameters stay the same.
how do i know if I can still root and unlock my device?
did any one had this update too?
thank you

You can root and unlock... you must have just purchased the phone. The update came out right after the release.

I have the phone for a few days. I had a notification for an update for a few days, I avoided it.
It despaired and after a day it appeared again, and the installed it self.
so am I safe?
how can I block the OTA next time?

Your safe for rooting and unless unlocking. You should be able to disable the ota by removing fota from your apn settings.

It is kind of a misleading title because this is the Captivate Glide forum and I expected it to be for our phone.

I wouldn't know... ?
Yes, the update is pushed from service provider's server... Because adding BLOAT is the most important (for carrier), but last step in update... So OTA is pushed from AT&T servers...

I wonder if they pay for the Bloat or do bloat developers pay them to use their bloat hence why the Service providers install it. If it is the other way around, I guess the Service providers think it adds value to the user....Little do they know most of us hate it!

You go to Nitro HD? I go to GSIII I'll see if I can fix CM7 for us first. Apparently the init.rd scripts in the ardatdat kernel are made for stock and not cm7. Too lazy to dual boot linux though

One X There are no updates available

Ok, here's my problem, Yesterday I checked for updates and there was one to 4.0.4 but I selected that I would do it later since I wanted a better charge, but I forgot about it, and now today I go to do it, and my phones says that there's no updates available. I'm still on 4.0.3, what could be going wrong?
try rebooting the phone and trying again, if it still not working, could do factory reset.

Wtf lol ? Keep trying.. If anyone can actively do something about it then it's them, reason I say is because Asus' servers don't provide the ota updates to unlocked devices at all.
htc must have a similar-ish setup, and somethings possibly gone wrong their end that they need to sort out before it will allow you to update. The fact they sound like they don't recognise your imei is a little worrying.. Maybe that's the problem..

[Q] Ota update today?

I just got an ota update pushed today but I haven't tried to update yet because I'm rooted. I am wondering if this is new or if this could be the same update as last time being sent out again. I didn't update the last time because it seemed to be a small update to change the coding of the pinch to zoom feature. Any word of a new update? Thanks in advance

Just fyi, even though its a small update, it shouldn't cause any issues where data is concerned, and you can update a number of ways that will let you stay rooted. See my firmware thread in development stickies to get the fw or ota.
More importantly, the upcoming jb update will patch this update, so if you haven't updated you may miss the message.

Sorry about posting in the wrong spot. I have build UVLH2. I got a notification maybe a week or two ago but didn't update because everyone said it didn't really do anything. Are there significant changes this time around?
You'll need this update to get the jb.
No reason not to update....

Well I was a little reluctant to apply the new updates for fear that they would mess something up or take away some feature that I enjoy. I applied one update because it added the brightness bar but it took away the search feature. I found a way to put the search back but didn't want to lose some other functionality unless it was worth it. So do you know if I have to go back and apply the previous update before I can apply the one that just came through?
Depends on what you've done to the phone since then. If you've modded, removed, added or replaced anything then you'll probably have to odin flash the stock build to get the update. But why do that when you can just odin the updated build!

Question, What is this uvalj4 update about? I mean I know its updated something else, Did a google search on it.. all that came up is new roms on xda using it lol.
Edit: Another question, I just got that OTA Root Keeper, then tried to update, it rebooted, went into CWM. Then said something about the file and didnt do anything else. Can someone confirm/deny it works with CWM installed?

Interested to know whether this simple process is sufficient. I imagine you also need to completely shut down GFE if re-rooting at any time - what's the easiest way to do that? Ideally someone can develop a GFEOff+Root toggle!

Or ... Just why would I care what the company wants .. If its my phone . If the company wants me to have an unrooted phone they can issue me one . If the phone belongs to the company i can understand them not wanting it modded in any way though .
Rooted or jail broken devices are a security risk an hence not allowed at many companies for BYOD..
Just removing su didn't help

same byod policy at my company too. no jailbroken iphones/ipads and no rooted and non-stock rom android phones/tablets.
but....why the hell would i ever want to make my personal device take work emails? that's why they gave me a blackberry.
Try removing su then factory reset see if that helps

[Q] Verizon HTC one root?

Saw this posted earlier:
https://twitter.com/TeamAndIRC/status/371047150056009728
Is there any news regarding this? I know with the recent HTCdev lockdown, unlock is not possible, but it sounds like root is easily achievable.
I really only need to root. I don't really use any of the features that unlock would give me. Heck, the only root function I use is Titanium backup. I get free tethering (share everything) and always stick with the stock ROM.
Is anybody actually working toward a root only solution? Or is all the effort directed to a s-off unlock solution?
Same. I want to know as well. This guy seems like if it's such a cakewalk he should do it but as long as someone can figure it out I will be happy

Bootloader unlock is sufficient for flashing ROMs and rooting. S-Off is kinda superfluous.
That's what I had heard. Well I'm not installing too many applications yet so I won't have to start all over when bootloader unlock comes back around

I spent 30 min setting up my phone only to have it wiped by the bootloader unlock. Then it hit me.
Jcase said it would be "easy" for someone to work around it but he has not offered to do it. If you look he ends up specifically saying he is not going to work on it... I'm sorry my friends with the one... Hopefully someone else will come up with a solution. We had to wait a few times with the DNA so I know how it feels

I honestly think if its THAT much of a cakewalk he should just be able to do it, or to basically hand it to a dev (which he kind of said he did) instead of hinting at all this and doing nothing.
But it's not my place, so hopefully someone DID get the info and will have it unlocked asap
Yeah but better he hint to tip someone off then say nothing at all you know... Plus he like all the rest of us has a life outside of xda and I'm sure he has good reasons... I mean he has already done so much for many devices

I thought you couldn't write to /system while booted unless you were S-Off. Has that changed? When the DNA was unlocked we weren't able to do so until Beaups (I think) found a workaround with the kernel.
Also, JCase, in a previous tweet, said his PREVIOUS exploit still worked on the Verizon One. I haven't searched, but maybe it's already been released?
I'm at work so I can't look up the specific tweet for you guys.

If you are careful you shouldn't have a problem. But if you flash iffy things then you can easily end up with a brick. That's why most developers stay S-On.
