Is there anyway to get notifications to show up on CM7's lockscreen (like "Text Message: John Doe")? Or how it is now in iOS5, where you can slide to unlock into that app? Please help!
If you have Widget Locker you can set custom unlock sliders that open into a user defined app.

I want something, like the iOS ones :/
You can use Missedit on Widgetlocker, and it will let you know that you have a missed text, call, email or calender event and by pressing on the notification it will open the app.
It can also be hidden so that it only appears when you have missed something.
Just use gosms or handcent and have the notifications turn the screen on

How do you set it up to only show when you missed something??

I have MissedIt! on my phone (running CM7), how do I configure it to show me texts and such?
Not sure with cm7. I think missed it only shows the number of missed. I know certain lockscreens on miu rom will show the actual message.

What script do I need it to run, so it'll atleast show me the notification.
Download SMSpopup.
You're welcome.

Working on this (see goo.gl/JFTyk) as a personal project. So far displays SMS and missed calls accurately. Using Widget Locker to display the transparent widget on the lock screen. Still need to figure how to swipe an individual notification to open into it.
Can I test that out? It's exactly what I need!
Here's the APK of my alpha release (goo.gl/OFE5v). It won't let you open the notification from the lock screen yet. I'll probably get that working over the weekend (swiping does not appear to be possible in widgets, I'm thinking double-tap). I'll probably make some UI tweaks, and add calendar events as well.
My next release will probably be on the Android Market, and for free since it sure as hell hasn't been tested on any phone other than mine.
MIUI has plenty of iphone lockscreen clones.
@mmrussell Thanks alot; let me know when you're going to put it on the Market, I'll look forward to it!
@sjpritch25 I used to use MIUI, but I just prefer CM7.
This would definitely be nice... My guess is we'll have to wait a few months for CyanogenMod to release Android 4.0 and it'll have most of this stuff. I doubt anything as good as iOS5 lock screen will be out sooner.
just thought id throw every one a heads up... iv seen people asking about getting toggles in pull down tray well here is a widget that allows you to do just that. plus it has a ton of customization's.
check it out.

Thanks. Kinda late though as there are numerous ways of already doing this.

How, without root / flash?
I use Notification Toggle: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.notificationToggle
I think it's the best one because of its customization options and the fact that I can download stock ICS icons for it. Plus, you can add apps (free, included in app) and shortcuts ($0.99 add-on). Like I have the shortcut for my AudioManager Pro Profile list in there and an icon that runs the Lockscreen app (saves pressing the power button to shut the screen off).
I'm not rooted. The only useful thing root would give me is the ability to directly toggle GPS rather than having to go to the settings page, but considering I almost always leave GPS on, I don't really care about that.

+ 1 for that......im using too and it is awesome.....
elixir2 does this also...
I also prefer Notification Toggle over Widgetsoid. Stock icons and the ability to always have it at the top of the notification screen. My only complaint is that it's a little laggy when tapping thru the brightness settings.
I use AoKp to do this without using a app....:beer::beer::beer::beer::beer:

If only I liked AOKP. *sigh*
Thanks for the recommendations, shall have to try these, because besides themes, the notification pulldown with a plethora of settings to play with are what I miss most from MIUI builds on the HD2.

Much easier to install a custom rom than an app right? lol
Anyway, +1 for Notification Toggle. I was using Extended Controls for it but Notification Toggle is much better since it stays on top of other notifications and it also replaces the Battery Widget that I was using to display the battery % in the bar.
so have any of these been updated so that i don't have a constant icon running in my notification bar? i don't know why but that's a dealbreaker for me.
btw, i'm not rooting yet until CM9. temporary solutions without the annoying notification icon?
Thanks OP
Forgot about widgetsoid and how awesome it is. Between this and Nova launcher gestures I now have the perfect setup for my home screen because of this.
Swipe up - brings up the app drawer
Swipe down - brings down the notifications
Home button press while on the homescreen - brings up voice search
Any idea how to change the colour of the battery icon in the status bar using the Notification Toggle app? I want to change it to ics blue.

+1 on this. What's worse is they'll give the option for no icon, but then it just leave a blank spot in the notification bar.............
That's a limitation of Android, so until Google offers a better way, that's how it has to be.

First, I know this is my first post. I've searched for answers the past hour all over this site and the internet but can't find anything. I successfully rooted and put CM10.1, nightly 12/27. I chose that one since I saw many comments saying that they are having the least issue with that one. Here are some problems I'm having:
1. Google Now is not working. I installed GAPPS twice to make sure it didn't mess up the first time but still no luck. When I hit the microphone icon, I get an error that says "Unfortunately, Google Search has stopped". It disappears real quick.
2. I think I may not have all options available in my lock screen settings. After reading up online on what you can do, many people are able to add things like weather, news, etc in their lock screen. All I see when I go into the settings is Screen security, Battery status, Slider shortcuts, and Button actions.
I'd appreciate anyone's help.
Google now works fine for me. On the lock screen swipe down on your clock widget and you can swipe left and right to add more pages and widgets

I'm only seeing 4 available widgets...calendar, digital clock, gmail and messaging. I have a lot more than that on the phone.
As for the Google Now, if that doesn't work, could that be a problem with the nightly update that I used?
I'm using the illusion rom and the gapps linked in the op and it works. You can't put all widgets on the lock screen. Apw and beautiful widgets is what I'm using

Just uninstall Google search and reinstall it from the play store.

About the widgets, you can only add the widgets that are designed for the lockscreen. You need to mod the guts of the ROM to allow regular widgets to be placed on the lock screen.

I couldn't uninstall Google search but I updated ur and it started working. I don't know why I didn't even think of that. Thanks a lot.
As for the widget...so which one did bfranklin a few posts back use? When searching for widgets I wasn't able to find out whether they can be used for lock screens or not so I'd like to try one that works.
I noticed just 1 more issue. I set led notifications for my texts. The problem is that when I get texts, the led works but as soon as my display goes out the led stops flashing.
If anybody has a noob guide for modded roms please let me know Lol. I came from an old blackberry to an android so imagine.
Hi, just want to know how many of you guys feel that lockscreen widgets are useful and use them. I have never used them till now. Let us know.
Personally, I use dash clock widget with a bunch of extensions. Most of the info I like is all on 1 widget. Missed calls, texts, Google voice mails, weather, battery, BBS, gmail and a few others. As far as other widgets go I also use Google sound search as well as the "my work clock" widget. I can punch in and out without unlocking the phone. Quick and easy:thumbup:
That's really all I use but it all comes in handy I think.
i only use the origin clock

I have one, and it's the camera. I find lock screen widgets annoying.
I never got the utility of the lockscreen in the first place. If your phone is not password/pin/whatever locked, why would you want to touch the screen 1-2 times more just to get to the main screen with all your usual apps/widgets or to the full menu?
And all the info you could put on your lockscreen, you can put on your main screen in a better, more personalized way.
I tried a few times to use a lockscreen (a total of a few weeks over the last 2.5 years), but I always deactivated it after a few days.
Just my 2 cents.
i only use them by accident and that suxx. me wants them gone for good

Dashclock is basically what the lock screen should be all about - an extendable piece of quick info.
I just use dashclock and poweramp. I tried to use calculator but when i was using it the screen turned off everytime. So i gave up.

I guess most of them thinks it's useless. Even I feel the same. I don't understand why Google introduced it.
Probably because they needed to ship some features with the N4 and didn't have much else to present. The whole 4.2 series looks like a cherry picked filler between the JB and next major release.

I use Dashclock, the stock camera widget, and a flashlight widget on a regular basis. The lock screen widget feature certainly isn't groundbreaking or anything and it does seem like a bit of an after thought (for example, Dashclock is what the stock clock widget should have been as others have mentioned). I do like the idea and see it as a quick intuitive way for getting to things quickly without having to unlock your phone first. Sure you had the shortcuts on the lockscreen before that would take you directly to the camera and what not but with the lock screen widgets the operation seems a little faster, more stream lined and fluid.
Really though, I don't see why you would want more than 3 lock screen widgets. There is the main home page one that you see whenever you wake up the phone, which most people have either the stock clock widget or Dashclock and is therefore mostly for informational purposes (do you have any new emails, text messages, time/date, battery percentage, etc). Then from there you can swipe to the left or the right to easily get to the other two widgets which are more functional in the sense that you can interact with them (camera, calculator, flashlight, etc.). If you have a 4th one you have to swipe a second time and at that point you have to wonder "why not just unlock the phone in the first place".
i just hate them i use pattern lock and while i try to unlock the screen moves arrfgghh thts soo fukn irritating :banghead::banghead::banghead:

I used to disable them with Lockscreen Policy, then I started using Dashclock.
All the threads that I have looked at for this seem to be for sound or text-based notifications that are either sent to your screen or email, almost being as easily missed as the original. I'm looking for something very simple, similar to the circles with the quantity of calls/messages that you may have missed used by Sense ROMs. Nothing I've tried from the Play Store works. I'm even willing to flash a different ROM. I am currently running Task650's AOKP ROM (4.2.2). Thanks in advance, and I really did search first!

Nova, Apex, Go, Next launchers all have extensions that allow for this. Tasks ROM has built in "breathing" sms notifications in the status bar, plus missed call and text notifications in the status bar. Then there is Dashclock widget that can be used on both your lockscreen and homescreen.
What more do you want? Look at all the various notifications below.
