Anyone else skipping roms?

I decided no roms this time around. I want everything to work. I will likely root to get rid of some bloat. Anyone else?

I agree, I'm only rooting to get my apps from titanium back, but other than that, I'm pretty sure I'll be happy with touchwiz JellyBean

I will say that this is one of the ONLY phones that I ever thought about NOT romming but I doubt I will be able to hold back if something really good comes out...Hello, I am Justin, I am a flashaholic!

I hope not to also but when a new version of android comes out and no update from the carrier then flashing seems like the only option..

Deff agree on that one. But alas, i will miss alot of the OG functions from touchwiz on this phone. Although with GN1, they found work arounds for it. Especially S Note.

My plan is to root as late as I can to avoid messing things up. I figure we won't see an update for a few weeks and by then all the bugs that come along with rooting a phone should be worked out. I really enjoy this phone and can, surprisingly, wait on rooting.

I know when I rooted that if I go to check for a software update it says it won't do it on a modified device so I am pretty sure we won't get OTA's through the rooted devices but you can just wait for someone to post the updated OTA and flash that and your good to go!
Or do you still have stock recovery?

Only rooted for bloat and spyware removal and a nice kernel. But im only flashing stock TW based roms!

The only way I will install a custom rom on the note 2 is if they come out with Android 4.1.2 , 4.2, or Key Lime Pie.

Seriously I don't understand why would anyone want aosp roms on this baby when spen features and touchwiz is what makes this phone awesome. To each its own. I just dont want the term flashing hipster to give birth.

Im either going to wait to root until after the ota for multi window function is sent out or ill root if a rom including it is released first.

Just got the UPDATE!

Just got the Samsung Update available on my phone. It might be for multiwindow function. Don't think I can install it due to being on a custom ROM, so I don't know what it will include.

No update here, running stock rom...anybody else get it?

Turn off automatic time and manually advance the time forward or change the date. It will check again then.
But I don't have an update.

Rogers in Canadiana with nothing yet. I did hear rumours of an update for the S3 and quite possibly the Note 2's starting tomorrow though. But I've given up on rumours.

AT&T here in the US and completely stock Note 2 and no update via Kies or AT&T that I can see.

U got that because u on a custom Rom. Every one I tried I have that notification.

If you have a custom ROM, you won't receive ota updates. You said you "received" an update? Did you install it?

No update on the Rogers note 2.

I'm rooted and I checked for the OTA update and their was no update, said I had the latest version. I want to go back to stock rom now because every time I read about installing a custom rom it breaks something else on your phone and you have to wait for a fix for that.
Rooting your phone with custom roms takes too much time and energy. I don't have time to research different roms and play with my phone everyday. Ill just wait for ATT to come out with their updates, So if someone can link me to have to get back to ATT's I317 stock rom that will be great, thanks.

This OP's started a raucous, and does anybody notice that they've miraculously gone AWOL since the 1st post...??? Oh, and 0 (zero) individuals have successfully retrieved this "phantom" update?! Seems like a weak (yet successful) attempt at stirring the pot,

If you're on a custom ROM, especially if it's a port, then you shouldn't even bother starting a thread like this.

I am on a custom Rom and also got the update notification, but it is just to 'OK' the software updating service.

[Q] My gs3 won't update to 4.1.2?

I've been looking around and apperently the T-Mobile gs3 got 4.1.2 around May 13 but I'm on 4.1.1 and when i click on software update it says device is up to date.
Am I just looking at all fake threads or what?

Are you sure your S3 is the t999? You'd be surprised at the number of people that don't know what model of a phone they have. Some people think they have one model, when they actually have the other.

Hahaha yes I am 100% positive this is a T-Mobile T999 Galaxy s3. I just heard of this ota update but still, no luck with the software update button.

Just checking lol.
Try this a few times:
1. Go to Settings -> Apps -> All
2. Find Google Services Framework.
3. Tap on Force Stop.
4. Select Clear Data.
5. Head back to the Settings, go to About, and check for a System Update.
Then you should see an update available.
You're not really missing out on anything though. From reading, the 4.1.2 update has caused horrible battery life as well as slowing down the phone. I can't stand touchwhiz, so I cant share my personal experience with the update.

Still no luck with clearing data. And I really dont want to go through the flashing process. ..

They release the ota updates incrementally. I still cant get it that way here. Only other option is flashing it.

You probably can. Personally, I cant stand kies and will never recommend using it. I think many others would agree. If youre willing to update using kies, why not just flash via odin?

Another perspective. Kies has been unreliable for me once and it was because my computer went to sleep in the middle of an update. Otherwise as long as your drivers are up to date it works just fine. And I'd say kies is safer IMO than Odin. And I've used Odin since the sgs days. Never have a problem with that neither. Its all user pref.

Ive just never had any use for kies personally, and have helped a number of people who had nothing but problems when trying to use it.
Plus if kies is on your computer Odin doesn't function properly.
It is personal preference, but imo its just not worth the hassle it often causes.

Agree. I have kies on my Mac since Odin doesn't work for Mac and Odin on PC when i want to root my phone. Seems to work for me. When in only had my PC I only used Odin.

ATT Pushing OTA Update Today

ATT just tried to push an OTA update to my Note 2. I don't know what is in this update. I suspect it is 4.3. At least one of the local dealers told me they expected it any day. Unfortunately, with my rooted phone and missing some ATT bloatware, ATT OTA updates always fail for me. They download OK. But when they try to install it fails.
Did anyone else get this update? Do you know what it is?
I will probably just take one of the 4.3 (or 4.4) ROMs from here. But I am curious what it is.

Yes I am stock and rooted. But I have deleted a bunch of the ATT Bloatware. My understanding is that updates won't install without some of that stuff. Apparently it checks during the update process. I don't really want to reinstall all that junk just to get the updates.

The S4 Actives had the same problem when we all went to a pre-release firmware... Could download current firmware OTA but failed on install. Only solution was to go to the Samsung rep at best buy to force the update (with their secret software).

Any idea of the size of the update that's being pushed?

Im having the same issue. It downloads with not problem (165mb) but when installing it crashes at 30 percent. I prefer the official roms from my experiences with custom roms there are usually buggy and I end up deleting them later. Any help I would be most thankful for.

I don't think 165MB is the 4.3 update. It was an update for 4.1.2 months ago. Did you have that?

UCAMH3 is 185.14 meg for ATT...
I'd suspect that 4.3 will be something like 350-400 meg.

It's currently running 4.1.1 and whenever i check for updates it says that the system is up to date, whereas the AT&t official site says that they have even rolled out the 4.3 update. Can any of u guys help me out that why my is not updating..? and how to update it....?
I shall be really thankful.

Remember that the phone checks for updates using the AT&T servers, if you are not using an AT&T sim, you wont be able to get the update. I would just load a custom 4.3 TW rom, which I'm sure are a lot better than the crap AT&T releases.

Have you tried to Odin to a stock 4.3 ROM.
You might want to try the one click.
Think I have it somewhere let me check.

Not sure, have you tried plugging it in to a pc using Kies? Do you have an Att sim with you? You could give it a try by using an ATT sim and connecting to wifi

The one click method puts the leaked AT&T 4.3 bulks on it. It is not rooted. If you skip the cf auto root steps you will be on 4.3 non rooted stock.

Agree this is your best option if you want 4.3 non rooted.
It would be helpful if we knew your network provider. It's an ATT unlocked Note 2, are you on ATT?

No im using it in Pakistan at the moment. Don't have an At&t sim with me.
