Dont know what else to call it really but I know this is happening with all of our devices.. which is when the screen times out and u press home to wake it up it takes u back to default homescreen. The sgs3 doesnt react that way and ive had to get used to hitting the power button instead. Any ideas? This would be amazing and greatfully appreciated.

I can't replicate this issue. I let my screen timeout and pressed the home button and it simply turned the screen back on to where I left it.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
I've had it happen. You press he home button immediately after the screen goes black, and it wakes the screen up, but also takes out of what ever you are in and takes you to the home page. I've retrained myself not to go for the home button, but the power button.

This is really an issue, "immediately" hitting the home button when it goes to sleep? Why not just avoid letting it go to sleep or hit the power button? This seems like a non issue to me and I've never had it happen.
but my post does not help the OP so good luck with that, sorry for the editorial.
The point is my sgs2 gti9100, and sgs3 tmobile which both had physical buttons didnt react this way.. I find it to be strange.

Are you using stock LEAK ?
I think this is a Jellybean 4.1 issue. My Note 2 has the same problem, but my wife's Galaxy S3 didn't when she was on ICS. Last week the phone updated to JB and now the problem exists.
This is definitely related to Jelly bean but I'm not sure if it is strictly a Touchwiz Jelly bean issue. It happens when I removed S Voice from the home button double press. It happens on the S3 and when my Note II comes in I bet it will happen on there too.
There are a lot of people that noticed it and I even saw someone open an issue with Google, although I'm not sure it is entirely a Google issue.
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=39326
The last line is the issue maybe.
"I want the single tap to be more snappy - for that I must disable s voice, but when I do it this bug raises its head. "
Do you guys have s voice disabled on the home button to save that lag time?
I disabled the s voice on the home button but still have the lag.

This is a mod how to enable navigation bar(on screen buttons) , its very simple and easy...
Add the following line at the end of buid.prop file
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
now on reboot we will have nav-bar like on nexus 4
To disable hardware keys, I used root explorer go to system/usr/keylayout click and hold on kaypad.nl and choose from menu open in text editor and 139,158,172 edit the home to hom and do the same on all 3 lines and hit save and reboot,
Plus I went and deleted all the 139, 158, 172 lines from external_kbd.kl, Generic.kl, MHLRCP.kl, osp3-input.kl and qwerty.kl. I dont know if that helps because I deleted them first then edited the lines in kaypad.nl.

HELP! I tried this and got the nexus 4 buttons working. However, once I got to the disabling hardware buttons part, it all went to hell.
I think I may have screwed up the key map file because now my phone's power button is not working.
I can't lock the phone, I can't wake the screen.
However, once I offed the phone using an app, I can turn it on using the power button, so it definitely isn't broken.
Is there a solution to this? I don't have any warrenty and I'm freaking out!!!
Oh and yes, I've done a factory reset and no that didn't solve the issue.
Please help! Thanks in advance! :crying:

The easiest way to disable the default navigation buttons is by going to
system/usr/keylayout/keypad_8064.kl When you open the file you'll find
key 158 BACK VIRTUAL
key 172 HOME VIRTUAL
key 139 MENU VIRTUAL
add a # in the begging of each one like
#key 158 BACK VIRTUAL
#key 172 HOME VIRTUAL
#key 139 MENU VIRTUAL
Reboot and they should be disabled, but the buttons still light up. To fix this go the settings/display/front key light Then uncheck
Turn on Front Key Light.

Also noticed that when I reboot my phone the first notification I get shows up normally, then they stop showing. It notifys me and everything, just cant pull down the blind to access them.
Also noticed that my menu button isnt integrated with the menu bar at the bottom. Ideas on how to do this?

I can't answer the notification issue, but I believe for the menu button a lot of apps have a built in menu button (usually in an action bar on the top right) now that they display (it is more of a tablet display, but given the resolution it probably still shows up that way).
You can still get to the menu in apps right?

Thanks so much for this! I'm going to give this a shot. Not sure if it's really that useful/suits me, but it's always nice to have options.
I have been having some fun with this. Enabled the software keys, disabled the hardware keys, disable the back and menu button lights. Now it just looks like I have a sweet notification light area because you cant see those two buttons when they aren't lit up. I adjusted the pixel density all around to make is so I don't lose any app screen space.
The only issues I have are the icons on the launcher getting cut off on the bottom rows and the camera button is a little messed up, still usable, but there is a dedicated hardware button, so it doesn't really matter.
Now I just need to change the multitask button to a menu button and it will be pretty sweet!
there has to be an app that does this as well.

There are some mods which let you reprogram your home button. You should check out Xposed framework. Also, you could go for a virtual bar which emulates home, menu and back button. There is a very nice app which is called something like "dynamic app bar" in the play store. Maybe you could use that app to create a special button for music controls.
