Hello All,
Searched around.. no fix.
Just installed the FK09-- runs awesome. Every so often (on 3G--unsure if related), I get a modem crash. Says do not touch anything for 10 minutes, then reboots to a modem crash cp dump page.
I pull battery and try to turn on and goes back to cp dump upload page. If I plug in the phone, then turn on, it goes away. This leads me to believe it might be a battery issue?
I tried wiping dalvik/cache in clockwork, then reflashing FK09 kernel. I also did the one-click FK09 again also, problem still persists.
Anyone know what this could be? Any fix suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
man.. i've tried a bunch of stuff. still doing it

Million dollar question - which package for FK09 did you flash?
And have you tried the full restore yet?

i just tried the original tar (http://www.sxtpdevelopers.com/showthread.php?53-jb-odin-tar-sph-d710-fk09) .. before that was using one-click, both rooted restore and rooted nodata. same problem.

Well... wouldn't hurt to do the spin test with your battery. If it spins easily get it replaced.
Other thing to consider is dumping a logcat via ADB and attach here.

yeah it spins--going to stop by sprint store on way home and hope they have an extra laying around.
just doesnt happen on any other rom/modem/kernel combination. and im a flash-a-holic.
i've already switched roms, but if sum1 wants the logcat, i'd be willing to go back and post it.
thanks for reply.
UPDATE:
I lied.. phone crashed running a stock-rooted FH13. Im gonna blame all of this on bad battery...crashed with no error messages.
This happened once, for the first time this morning, I almost thought it had to do with an email I got at the time (like maybe I it was a virus), I let the report go to 100% then did the battery pull and everything has been since... glad to see I wasn't the only one this happened to.

yeah. never happened before yesterday. first time after being on FK09-- popup comes up RILNotifier saying something about modem crash dont touch anything for 10 min.. then goes to recovery like screen with a percentage count to 100.. nothing happens. waited a bit, finally pulled battery and tried restarting. goes back to dump recovery like screen. only fix for me now is to plug it in while turning it on.
this modem crash only happens when on battery. has not happened at all today while plugged in.. can recreate error usually after about 3-10 min of surfing internet/playing game on phone when not plugged in. hopefully new battery fixes.. or asurion is getting my aged epic pretty quick here.
Just got this today. Was charging battery to move to Agat recovery and (and maybe Wizzing Beanis ROM), when I went to get my phone that should have been at %100, it was on the CRASH CP dialog. Almost looks like the ODIN dialog. When I restarted it was at 78%. Just replaced my Battery 5 weeks ago. BUT I really believe ICS screwed this battery up already. Gonna make the switch to the ROM before I replace the battery. Currently on FK09 ROM with FK23 Modem and Kernal- been using it since the day it was avail to all of us. Might just be an FK09 thing

Stuck on Downloading... screen but won't connect to my PC anymore. (COM not showing up).
It froze when I was trying to install EE03 modem from EG22.
What do I do? Pull battery and boot into clockwork?
Thanks!
You probably have to reboot your computer. If you can disconnect the phone, pull battery, put it back and still get into download mode, you are fine. Just reboot, open Odin and try it again. I have better success with a full battery but that may just be me.

lol OK sorry for the new thread, but I got it back. Was really paranoid that battery pull during download mode would only make things worse. Panic set in.
I pulled battery, got back into download mode, and just to be safe, wiped and reflashed rom and kernel.
That's the first time anything has gone wrong for me. Panic attack lol I'm a nerd

Heck, half the time my phone won't make it through the Odin process unless I hold it gently in my hand and keep telling it "shhh...it'll be alright, it won't hurt"
I have never had any problems using odin and i'm guessing thats because i dont use the gay usb's samsung provides with the epics.. lol
usb's are real cheap. I recommend everyone to get a new one..
My epic randomly went into boot loop on sunday. I odin'ed it monday and it was working better then before i woke up today and it was boot looping again i just tried odin 3 times now and it boot loops... is my epic bricked?
No, bricked means no lights, no power, no nothing. You are sponged. Try a different cable and a different tar.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
any idea why this would keep happening out of the blue? Also i am using another my other cable that i always use. used it to root and odin multiple times.
What are you Odining and are you restoring data? My guess is your data is bad. Downlod your apps fresh from the market. Don't restore any data.

IDK
Not restoring anything i also removed the sd card. I tried to odin ec05 stock and eb13 stock. right after it says successful and closes threads i unplug my phone. Then put my batter back in and it say samsung after about 45 seconds it turn's black and samsung comes back up and loops. Also when i charge it shows the battery icon and the spinning circle in it freezes and the screen will not turn off. Seem like its just done for. I took extremely good care of it too very frustrating. If you have any other idea's I would appreciate them.
Edit: also each time it did this i couldn't get into CWM. Thats why i used odin. Just thought i should mention it.

Have you tried using the "official" Samsung EB13 app? I've used it as a last resort for a clean flash.

Good call it seems to be working.. i guess i will see for how long. Really strange it was totally bricked for a few mins no power or lights.. then i unplugged it and plugged it back in and boom started actually charging like normal (the the circle started spinning in the middle of that battery icon) so i turned it on and I was shocked to see the sprint boot screen. I bet its a temp fix till it full breaks but at least i dont have to use this damn blackberry.
Very strange
thanks
The Samsung update tool repartitions your device. It may have been a bad partition table. My next suggestion was to use the PIT file and check repartition in Odin but I see you are up and running...great!

I couldn't without rooting it and installing CWM. So i got it charged, rooted the installed CWM then did what u said. Anyway I hope this doesn't screw up again. thanks for the help guys.
OH, so when you Odin'd you did not root after...Ah, I see. There is also an app to clear the stats and calibrate the battery but I believe it requires root as well.
Alright so ive used the search and couldnt find anything. I have a rooted s2 running eagles blood v1.1 and last night i flashed over lite'ing theme and now my phone screen will shut off and wont allow me to turn it back on, i have to hold the power button and it restarts. Ive reflashed eagleblood even recovered back to stock with just root and it continues to do it.
Any help would be much appriciated :/

Probably best to post this in the rom developer's thread. Any number of things can cause this behavior.
I would but my post count is low and i am unable to post there, so for now i am seeking help here.
ive tried un-rooting the phone, flashing the stock rom and no root, but have the same issue.

Are you using SetCPU? I had this problem from a screen off profile where I could get calls or have my alarm go off yet not able to wake the screen unless I manually powered it off and on.

i have tried this already, does not work :/
I'm having the same problem on rooted stock rom. It's getting more and more frequent. The phone just refuses to come back on after going to sleep. If I plug in the power/usb cable, it actually makes the connected noise as if it's actually awake but the screen stays off.
I've uninstalled all cpu and memory tweaking apps and am still experiencing the issue.

ive tried everything, flashed over and over, un rooted, different roms etc nothing has worked so i just used zedomax's stock rom to restore the phone ( problem still continues) called tmobile and will have my replacement within a day or so, nothing else i can do i suppose.
though my problem did seem to start right when i flashed lite'ing theme for eaglesblood (not saying that caused it )

im starting to think it is a phone issue myself, going to find out Tuesday when my new one arrives though i am hoping it was an error on my part because this phone has the chance to be fantastic.
I was having random shutdowns with my 1st phone, the thing is I never did have stock long enough (rooted after 45min of gettjng) to see if it was the phone or root/rom(s).
My second phone is working great without any random shutdowns, but I'm still stock(running on second day of testing).
Gonna root and flash tomorrow and hope everything remains the same if not back it goes before my remorse period ends.
I really think it's phone related rather then a rom because I've never had this problem with previous phones.
So I would suggest on exchanging it.

i do appreciate the feed back, and from everyone who did give it. after lots of research and back and fourth between stock and custom roms i definitely wanted it to be the rom so it was fixable but im about 96% sure its the actual phone its self.
Is anyone getting random reboots? I am rooted on stock ROM.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Mine did that the first day I got it. Had not rooted it or anything. Just would reboot, sometimes would shutdown and needed battery pull to get it back up,, had to return it to the store 2 hours after I got it.

Having mine for only 20 hours and Rooted with Darkside ROM installed, I have not had this issue.
p.s. It took only 10 minutes of playing with Stock ROM to decided that it needed to go.
I still have that issue on my device. I have them off and on but far between. It tends to happen if I am using a app to over or under clock my device.
Mine randomly did this. Your /data partition may be corrupted. If thats the case it will get worse and worse to where it will just reboot as it trys to start almost immediately over and over again...
There are some tutorials how to fix it
Had the same problem with my first device. I did an exchange and it was all good after that. I'd recommend you doing the same.

So every since the JB roms, my phone gets the sleed of death 1-3x a day. Sometimes, it will be immediately after a text message, i will see the indicator blinking,,but as soon as i hit the power button...NOTHING. It will then at that point have gone into the 'SOD'. There are other times where nothing is going on,,,and it still will randomly go into the SOD. THe only common thing is going into sleep mode cuz i havent touched it for a while.
I have been getting this on FK23,FL04, and FL16. ALL of these roms have been the stock leaks/stock recovery. Only thing modified has been addition of root/Superuser......
Could it be the phone itself??
I thought I was having this problem as well. Random turnoff and won't turn back on without a batt pull.
Turned out it was the swollen battery issue though. Check that.

I've tried all three & never experienced any SOD.
I recently got that on three different ROMs ..my remedy is unroot Odin flash fi27 and root fi27 Odin flash and start again ..oh when you unroot complete stock perform a stock factory reset

Yeah I had the same issue on the stock leaks. I am now on the goodness ROM (for about a week) and has not done the SOD since.
I was using the Odin one clicks for FK and FL builds. just followed the OP for goodness installation. So in my case, it seems like the installation method was the issue.

I had the same problems with all the recent builds. It turns out that it was my battery that was causing it. Went to the Sprint Store and got a new free battery which is free if you have insurance.
I've noticed SOD (and only just heard this term from a friend yesterday) on Paranoid Android 2.54 about once every day to 3 days. Just switched to Codename Android to see if that helps (and to try something new )
BTW, instead of a battery pull, I was always able to recover by holding the power button for about 8 seconds which will force a power down, another 2 seconds and it reboots. Very useful if you have a substantial case on the phone and don't want to remove it to pull the battery.
JB fl16 is one of the few roms I have never had the sleep of death with. This is a very weird phenomenon......
