Hello all,
I'm running into an issue when trying to change the build.prop to 240DPI. I used rom toolbox and a couple other LCD density modder apps from the play store. Each one causes my phone to get stuck at the Samsung logo, doing a cache wipe allows it to load to the "Android is updating" screen then once complete reboots and gets stuck again in boot. I am using a stock debloated rom by Geo411m. I also loaded up some 240DPI modded apps to play nicely with the new DPI but havent gotten to test it. I am using the stock touchwiz launcher, so could that be the issue?
just an update I installed Apex launcher and then removed defaults for the launcher. Set the DPI in Rom Toolbox and rebooted. I was able to successfully reboot this time. Only issue I have now is that I use the PIN unlock for the phone while crashes soon as you being entering your PIN. So looks like another system restore for me..... :crying:
forgot to mention I wiped cache and also fixed permissions.... now waiting on the restore to try it all again..
Strange...boot loops would happen to me on my Note 1 when I changed the DPI manually (like through root explorer) but when I used ROM toolbox it would work fine. If you want 240 dpi, I would suggest using DAGr8's hybrid ROM. I was running it at 240dpi with no problems. You also have to flash his multi dpi fix zip though because some of the stock apps won't be formatted properly.

I just automatically got the update to 6.2 and now I'm stuck in a launcher boot loop.
I rerooted, and attempted to install launcher pro again, it says it exits, I copied it into the system/app dir, but now what?
Shooting in the dark, but clear data/cache for LP?
thanks, a reboot or 2 seemed to have done it. I am rerooted, and everything seems to be working.

Reflash?
You installed stock ROM and then ran a debloat script.. Why don't you better flash the GPE ROM and then install Google Now Launcher? That way you'll have zero bloatware and will get updates a few days before stock ROM users.
Not really a fan of gpe wanted to keep stock fw as it is almost vanilla plus stable but really wanted to get gnl running on it
The reason why you can't see home is you removed the original launcher, to solve this just install another 3rd party launcher, don't set it as default then install the new Google Now Launcher and select it from the popup list and set as default
I suggest installing 4.4.4 GPE with root and remove the system apps you don't like with system app remover from Play Store. And ultimately install GNL.

i did not remove the stock launcher check out the screen cap in the first post, i also tried your suggestion at first the home menu in the settings was missing so i installed nova from play store then it reappeared the uninstalled nova the menu remained but GNL is still not recognized even if installed. also tried third party home/launcher switcher

Update Google search and activate Google now. Now you are good to go.
Hello,
I run CM 12..1 and update at almost every nightly. Every time, I change build.prop to set the dpi to 200 instead of 240; i figured out that there's an option for the default dpi in the latest versions so I set the dpi to 200.
But now, I've got a "Unfortunately, system ui has stopped working" popup which lead to an unusable device. I've done a factory reset and reinstalled the last CM version, redone a factory reset and installed a february version and flashed a stock ftf of android 4.3; only this allowed me to use the phone.
So, what can I do to go CM again? Thanks for your help !
Anyone?
Before I start, I would like to say that i am aware some apps just wont work as a system app.
I recently rooted my Samsung Tab 3 7.0 lite and more recently have flashed a debloated/deodexed/rooted ROM onto it using TWRP. I am now in the process of modifying the ROM, having uninstalled a few apps such as TouchWiz, Video Player, and samsung keyboard, and then installing Nova Launhcer, VLC, and Google Keyboard.
however my problem lies with the Google keyboard, I had to move it back to the /data/app directory after finding that it does not run when in the /system/app directory. All of my other apps work fine under system and the launcher has no problems either.
Are there ways to configure apps to not be removed even if I were to do a factory reset on my custom ROM? This would be very helpful for me.
Google keyboard wont be working as a system app i think you can try using gapps nano package or make a flashable zip of Google keyboard(i personally tried this)

I've been running aosp mm ROMs, and ever since I flashed bootstack 35 i cant get system ui to reboot. I select it and it does nothing. Even tried apps from playstore. Reason why I want to restart ui is because I have 3 mint battery mod any the only way I've ever changed battery icon is by restarting system ui. Vs985. Please help
