You download the factory image from google for your phone. Then you download android skd (adt-bundle) from google. Install the fastboot drivers from one of the many threads here detailing how to do it. Then you can use the directions here (don't download the images linked in those directions - they are for toro/mysid/cdma variant).

you could do this.. or use adb to transfer a rom to your sdcard and then flash that rom in cwm

dont worry your phone will reborn ^^
you can also follow this tread and install a google factory image automatically http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392310

Thanks!!!
Thanks guys! It worked!!!
I used the toolkit btw! Downloaded the stock rom and flashed it!

How to get new ROM on phone without ability to boot?

Can anyone tell me how I can load another ROM onto the SD card without the ability to boot. I wiped all my cache and data, and tried to load GummyNex, but the phone refused to boot. Now I'm stuck in CWM. I tried ODINing the stock system, but I couldn't get my phone to boot into ODIN mode. Now my only option is to find a way to load another ROM and try to install that via CWM. But without an external SD card, I don't see how that' s possible.
Suggestions?

with fastboot. you download the rom to your pc and then use commands for fastboot and it pushes the rom to your phone.

Would you mind posting step-by-step directions on how to do that? I know how to get into fastboot, but don't know how to load the rom from my computer onto the SD Card. Please explain.

By not loading rom from computer to SD card.
You update the phone from the computer. No transfer of files to the phone.
No SD card is ever involved.
You use fastboot and fastboot only.
(That, or Odin, and that still involves zero SD card)
Fastboot was one of the reasons you got a Nexus. Now is the time to learn how to use it.

I did that. That has an explanation for how to use fastboot with stock recovery. I need to load a custom rom. I've unzipped the Toro .zip and cannot find any file that has the word fastboot in it. Please stop referring me to other links. A simple explanation would be much more helpful.

The fastboot-windows.exe file is in the GNex Toolkit... if you've actually read post #2 that was linked earlier, you'd see that explained very clearly.
You need the fastboot-windows.exe (assuming you're in Windows) in the same folder as your toro files.
I believe the entry in post #2 of "Q. How do I Update to the latest Google Stock Rom?" should be plenty of step by step for you.
This will put you back on a stock rom. From there, you should be able to easily copy the zip file for whatever rom you want onto the phone.

if you had read the links, you should've used your brain to figure it out....
im sorry for trying to help you. you're on your own now.
What the other uses are instructing you to do is correct. There are no roms compatible with flashing via fastboot to my knowledge. You will need to flash back to stock first. Then you can boot into your phone and download or copy the rom zip to your phone to flash via cwm.
But you will most likely need to flash stock first as a step in the process. Unless you had a nandroid backup...

I would really like to find out if any of you figured this out??
I find myself in the same position as I'm finding that many have on here as well. I found this thread interesting because it is dealing with the Sprint Galaxy in particular. I have hosed the radio and the baseband on the Galaxy - likely the EFS parition, not sure.. at this point. It needs to be made very clear to everyone that even has a thought of flashing with this phone to make triplicate backups of the EFS partition before they turn the phone on (exxageration for affect).
That being said - I don't think that gets the rest of us anywhere. I'm a OG owner and a Bionic owner - and the first 72 hours of Samsung ownership has felt like non-stop triage to me..
I have this here.. but this really isn't the specific image for the Sprint the phones...
The link below points to a post for the IMM761 GSM+HSPA - which I believe these phones to be identical.. and since Sprint had locked code for the CDMA versions - is this one the same - in other words, is there an image out there that can be downloaded, flashed, and from there we can we can either fix the EFS and restore IMEI folder and baseband function or at least call warranty?
At this point - I can't reset the counter on the phone, I can't take it to the store (as if the 7 iployees would know what I was talking about) and I'm not about to pay $800 to learn that the EFS partition is the "short" in the term "got you by the short hairs"..
androidforums -
Heat57 says:"
It sounds as so you are on the GSM "maguro" device. In that case I suggest you download the complete ICS 4.0.4 factory image from Google at ... file. Beware! if you have a Windows PC the original download with a .tgz extension will be renamed by Windows automatically to a .tar file, which means that you'll have problems extracting it. In that case simply rename the file by changing the extension to .tgz and all will be well. Note: you'll need the Galaxy Nexus bootloader unlocked in order to flash a factory image and at the end of the procedure you can leave it unlocked and flash a Superuser file to root, if so desired. You'll need the Android SDK installed on your PC and then copy the bootloader, radio and image .img files to your ...android-sdk\platform tools-tools folder and run the adb commands in the windows command shell (note: you must flash each image in this order and wait until each image is flashed completely >bootloader >radio > image). Finally, flash the "image-soju-imm76d.zip" through your cwm recovery. You should end up with a healthy Galaxy Nexus on ICS 4.0.4 and everything working"

[Q] S-OFF, NO OS, ADB broken, TWRP won't install anything. HELP!!!!

Please help! I have all of the following problems.
What's not working
- Samsung Kies, official Samsung drivers, AND "adb mount" or "fastboot devices" aren't working!
- My OS got wiped, and TWRP 2.4.0.0 always fails EVERY ROM install! I'm in a boot loop
- I'm assuming it isn't rooted even though I had it rooted before, because every time I reboot TWRP asks if I'd like to install SuperUser. It never actually installs it though!
What's working (thank God)
- Odin can install various versions of TWRP
- TWRP and my stock Download mode work.
- I saved a backup of my data and preferences

Micro SD 64GB external

Hi,
Try this toolkit; toolkit will help you flash stock rom / unlock / boot
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614827
Or else you can always try to flash stock images.
Download a ROM boot into recovery and adb push to /sdcard flash profit. Or you can also mount the SD card in twrp. You're really not in a sticky situation you should be able to fix this in little time.
Another easy way is if you have USB OTG cable(very cheap... Got mine for $4) you can throw a ROM&gapps zip onto flash drive and should be able to flash via recovery from that.
No need to freak out buddy, whether you wanna setup SDK on ya PC to easily use fastboot & adb to restore device or even push/sideload zips, or use toolkit, there is tons if options.
Did you wipe ALL /data im guessing? Instead of factory reset which leaves your /sdcard(aka /data/media) untouched? And also wiped /system?
I've been there. Haha many of us prolly have. You'll be up and running again in no time! Dont fret!

Also, I'd be happy to help you via private messages with step by step if you absolutely need it. There are a few very well written stickies in this forum that can help also that have step by step in them

Why go thru that when you can just sideload right now?
i ran into this issue again as well. I have nandroids on my phone, but when I wiped data, the rom I was going to flash didn't get put on from my computer. I sideloaded through adb to /data/media/0 and it pushed fine, but still won't show up in my install section of TWRP, only the file manager in advanced. Anyone else have problems sideloading with TWRP?

I never even noticed that. But how does the sideload work? When I click on it, it asks if I want to wipe either or both dalvik and cache, and says swipe to start sideload. after you swipe you just use adb sideload filename.zip and that's it?

Yup. First start the sideload on your phone, then connect it to a computer with working adb (should be easy). After that, open a command prompt window and execute "adb sideload your-rom-name-and-position.zip". Your ROM should then be pushed to the root of storage and flashed.

Flash failing tried everything.

Hi all,
I hope someone can help as I am at my wits and sanity's end.
I am trying to install twrp into my phone to make a factory backup before rooting. I have unlocked the boot loader via htcdev all OK, I have followed the guide online to install twrp but it just will not work, I have tried various methods and every one of them failed. ADB and fastboot are installed OK, when I type "fastboot devices" it shows the phone and serial number, HTC sync is installed and updated, SDK is installed, everything the guide said to do I have done but it just won't flash. Error when I try to flash twrp every time. It is the latest version etc (I think) the twrp image is in the adb/fastboot folder and the cmd was opened from the folder.
I really don't know what I am doing wrong, can anyone please advise?
Thanks in advance

download it, connect tehphone to pc, move the rom zip to either extsd or internal sd, boot to recovery select the zip and flash.don't forget to make a backup, and to wipe dalvik cache, cache, system, and data, under advanced wipe. nothing else then install the rom
what was causing the problem before, that you couldn't get recovery to flash, just curious
