So i probably shouldn't have done this but i'm sure ill be sorry for this mistake. I went to update my AOKP ROM, and while doing so i read there was a new recommended kernel (Underwear-kernel). Assuming because they were on the same thread they were compatible i youtubed how to flash a new kernel and decided to do so. After doing so when i proceeded to reboot the phone did not "boot-loop" however it did go dark screen "black" but still lit up by LEDs. Anywho my bottom buttons on my Samsung Galaxy S3 (SGH-i1747) were lighting up however they aren't anymore. After i frantically started panicing because it wasn't booting at all i attempted to manually get into rom control to install my backup. Im not sure if im supposed to hold "down volume, power, and home" at the same time but it's not letting me back into the rom control. Im not sure if im soft bricked or whether im hard bricked, or just ****ed in general. If anyone could explain to me what the hell ive done and how to fix that would be amazing!
I have windows 7, 32bit and im not sure if ODIN will work on this type of operating system. Please help!
Thanks!
I would say if you have a back up and you can get into rexovery mode I would say re flash your recovery.. and say it again but most kernels you just add the zip to your sd card and flash it

Recovery is power+vol up+menu
Download mode powet +vol down + menu
Odin does work on your os.
Get your carrier stock rom and flash odin while in download mode

Yes you can Odin. Booting to recovery is vol UP + power + home, then let go of everything when you see the Samsung logo. The recovery method is what I would try first, and it'd probably be the quickest. Good luck!
You could also get into download mode and let Samsung Kies do the rest. That is, if you can get into download mode and Kies recognizes your phone. Easier then Odin, but you will lose root and start from scratch.
Here is a tutorial :

Alright, so I have an i-747 (AT&T GS3) running AOKP Jellybean (8.28 build) with the KT747 kernel. I just tried to install Chainfire 3D using the automated installer, and when the phone rebooted, it stuck at the Samsung Galaxy S3 logo until I pulled battery. So I tried rebooting into CWM - same problem. And again with download mode. Even after pulling the battery for a good 5 minutes, nothing works. Am I bricked, or is there some fix for this?
If you can get into CWM your not bricked. If you haven't backed up your phone there is a good chance you will have to start fresh. Its always a wise decision to do a nandroid backup via cwm before doing anything major. Including installing chainfire.
Have you tried wipe/factory reset in CWM?

Yeah, I made a nandroid just this afternoon, but I can't actually boot into CWM at all. As in, I turn on the phone (power+home+volume up), it gets to the Galaxy S3 logo and just hangs there. If I could get into CWM (or download mode) this would be about a 10 minute fix, but I'm kind of out of luck here.
Huh. After another battery pull, it let me boot into download mode. I'm gonna try to reflash to stock and hope for the best.
HELP I have the same issue
Hey, Im stuck in the same situation and was wondering if you were able to get it into CWM mode?

I doubt it's bricked if he got it into download mode. I'm sure he's flashed it and even got his wallpaper back up by now. Please let us know of you've managed to solve this or not MrPhantom.

Curious?
I know its technically "Solved" but does anyone have any idea why this is happening? I have a Verizon GS3 and it's happening to me. I try to boot and it vibrates once and doesn't turn on. Recovery does the same thing. But going into Download mode works. Odin back to stock as we speak but I'm just curious what went wrong. I just did a clean install of a rom, set it all up (working at the time), set it down for the night and woke up to it like this.

Same thing happned to me but your not bricked. You can get into bolth download and boot mode easy
Here is how you do it.
RECOVERY MODE
Unplug the USB cable.
Shut down the phone.
Hold down the 'HOME' + 'VOLUME UP' buttons and press the 'POWER' button for about 5 seconds to enter Recovery Mode.
[edit]Download Mode
Save that somewhere. Make sure do it right. I got stuck also and thought I couldn't get into recovery but I had to do it right (it hit recovery mode first try) I have learned that most people do it slightly wrong. Make sure follow directions
Download mode
Unplug the USB cable.
Shut down the phone.
Hold down the 'HOME' + 'VOLUME DOWN' buttons and press the 'POWER' button for about 2 seconds until a WARNING! Screen appears. Press the 'VOLUME UP' button to enter Download Mode.
To get out of Download Mode, simply press and hold the power button until the phone restarts
if helps hit thanks.
Just save that to a text file somewhere
I have also soft bricked when I deleted my rom once on accident. I dunno how I did it but I would get stuck at the TWRP screen. It wouldn't go to download or anything however when I plugged it into odin it saw it .... I even had a soft brick when screen went black from a bad boot animation and same thing.. and I had one bad soft brick where it took about 100 trys to get it into download mode (black screen) but odin detected it. I spent like 4 hours working on it.
I think
1. People don't follow directions correct (they do it a little wrong) which is enough if your phones messed up for it not to work.
when your phones normal it can get into recovery or download easy but when its sick you got to do it perfect.
2. I think something wrong with the phones (my s2 never had any issues in 2 years of owning it) S3 has tons of issues from usb, to bluetooth, to these soft bricks I have had)
3. Roms play a big part
4. I also think the way storage works in this new phone causes lots issues I dunno why just what I think
anyway Like I said now when I have a isssue I open text and read it and make sure I do it right and 95 percent of the time it was my fault I wasn't doing it right. K just my thoughts
when i try this on my verzion s3 it wont load back into the CWM after installed to finish rooting. it just goes back into the android system recovery. tried it about 10 times and nothing different

Hello! So I'm very new to rooting and roms but I'm very tech savvy.
So here's the situation... I buy a 1 month old s3 from someone and he had a AOKB ROM installed on it. It worked perfectly when I got it but then I decided to revert it to stock and factory settings. I don't know much about aokb ROM but I guess it wouldn't matter since I was just gonna flash the stock ROM on it with Odin. So I turned off the phone and try the recovery boot button combination and it didn't work, it just started normally, I did it several times and suddenly it wouldn't boot anymore. I then try to go into download mode but it wouldn't either, it would just restart and freeze in booting splash screen.
I'm panicking and don't know what to do. How can it possibly brick from resetting and why wouldn't it let me access the recovery/download menu I thought that was standard on all androids no matter what ROM you have installed in it.

Is it dead? No you can't brick from button combo. I'm guessing the battery died. When you charge it you can then try the button combo or boot it up and go into adb and type adb reboot download

The button combo is holding volume down and the home button while powering on for recovery, or Volume up and home for download.
hey im in panic mode guys, i just got my brand new phone, instaleld the OTA update to JB, then i odin the preroot version everythign worked perfectly.
Then i tried a custom rom with CWM, the marshmellow perfection one. It flashed and worked, but I wanted to go back to stock
So I odin flashed back to the preroot JB rom i had used before, and now it it hangs at the Samsung boot logo after reboot.
Odin says Pass and everything.
I also cannot get into any sort of recovery other than download mode.
What can i do to fix this???
Try this....plug charger in....when it completely shutdown you'll see battery charging icon on screen.....press volume up, home and power.....release power when you feel it viberate..... release everything else right after you notice blue text in upper left corner...

Recovery= Press power and both vol up and down immediately after pressing power. Let go of power when you see the samsung logo. Keep vol up and down pressed in a few seconds recovery should pop up.

its alive
so i got it back with stock rom already rooted now i have android version 4.0.4 can i flash any custom rom? or i have to update it to 4.1.2? how do i do that?
If you're right back to stock, just pick which custom ROM you want and check for the install guides.
Android version upgrades are generally packaged in with the custom ROMs. Exactly which version of Android you end up with depends on exactly which ROM you go with, but the general rule of thumb is you'll get later versions faster than waiting for your carrier to roll something out.
When I turn my phone on, goes straight to downloading mode.
I was currently running jellybomb, plugged the phone in via usb. I transferred Illusion rom to my external SD card. Held the power button, pressed reboot into recovery. Phone restarted and went directly into download mode.
Even when I pull the battery, whether I do vol up home pwr or normal phone turn on it goes directly to downloading mode.
I see the Galaxy Note 2 logo for a split second.
Not sure what the heck happened but I'm freaking the heck out. I hope someone can help me and give me good news?
Let it go to download and flash a stock rom maybe? Not sure why its doing it. Soounds like system and recovery were wiped. Giving it no where to load into. As long as you have download you should be fine. Just find a one click. Flash it from your computer. Then try recovery. Or you can just odin the twrp recovery and not odin the rom. Then try booting into recovery. Either way goodluck. One clicks can be found in the development forums. Twrp can be found at goo.im

I have this problem often. In fact since I cant odin my phone anywhere but home I dont flash roms at all. The only saving grace is no new tw roms getting released lately. I thought it was recovery dependent but it happens on both types for me.

To go Into recovery mode hold Home +Volumen up and Power button , when you see Samsung Logo hold only Home and Vulome up for the next around 20 sec that you See the recovery menu.
Please help me !
I have the same problem, I've took the steps to aquire recovery but nothing happens
On my 8.0 recovery is power+volume up, no home button. Don't know if that makes a difference or not.
Try downloading an app like " rebooter" from the play store. See if that will get u into it.
Also I use power/vol up to get into recovery.

dude where can I get the recovery? please do share tge link ... I'm having the same problem!!
Hello,
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Kids version (SM-T2105). It is only a Wifi tablet. I never rooted and USB debugging is not enabled (Keep this in mind). It is pure stock firmware. My 9yr old daughter has locked herself out. The Lock Screen password does not work. Because I can not gain access, I do not know exactly what firmware version it has or enable USB debugging (again - keep this in mind). The tablet will not boot to recovery mode, no matter what button combination I use. It only boots back to the Lock Screen. I tried in Regular Mode and Safe Mode. The only other mode that works is Download Mode (for Odin).
I am trying to do a Factory Reset, but I can not get into Recovery Mode. I tried flashing the stock firmware using Odin, but that does not work even after everthing PASSED with green lights (Odin 3.10.7). The tablet just reboots back to the same Lock Screen. Also, because the tablet is not enabled with USB debugging I can not do anything with ADB.
So basically I am stuck on the Lock Screen, and cant get into Recovery Mode in order to do a Factory Reset. Also, Odin flash is not working, even though everything says completed successfully. I have read in another post that other people are experiancing the same issue not being able to get into Recovery Mode (even when the tablet is not locked out and working fine). See this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-3/help/samsung-galaxy-tab-3-7-kids-t2105-t-t3294954
Can anyone help me. I beleive the tablet is stock in a soft brick that doesn't allow access to Recovery Mode. And the Locked Screen password is preventing me from getting into the table OS.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. And my 9yr old daughter will be happy again...
Thanks,
ggee
Hello,
I'm not sure which one of these did the trick for me, but I was able to get into recovery mode. I'm not sure if your three tables are rooted or not, but I don't think it matters. Try these two methods:
Method #1:
Technically, I think I just stumbled on to this one after successfully completing Method #2 (below). But it's worth trying it first before moving on to Method #2.
-Hold the Home + Volume Up + Power buttons together at the same time (just like the normal process).
-Now, you will probably need to try this next step a couple of time before you get it right. This is because it happens pretty fast and you need to time it perfectly.
-Notice that when the screen turns on, the actual first thing that happens is that the the screen backlight turns on and glows first. This happens first and a split second later the first Samsung logo flashes.
-You need to let go of all three buttons at the same time as soon as you see the backlight turn on, but before the Samsung logo flashes.
This is the sweet spot, and it happens pretty fast. But once you do it at the right time, the tablet will go black again and then the recovey mode will show up. It works for me every time.
Method #2:
I thought somehow the recovey mode portion of the firmware had become corrupter somehow. So I decided to flash a custom recovery using Odin (since at that time I hadn't stumbled onto Method #1 yet). Make sure to download and flash the CWM or TWRP .tar file for Odin (I personally have always liked CWM over TWRP).
-Make sure you have all the correct USB drivers for the tablet installed on your computer.
-Open Odin and load the .tar file that you downloaded into the PDA or AP slot (depending on your Odin version).
-Let Odin check the m5d verification for successful authorization.
-Once Odin is ready, then boot the tablet into Download Mode (Home + Volume Down + Power button)
-Connect the table to a USB cable that is attached to your computer's main USB port.
-Odin should now recognize that the table it connected to a valid COM port.
-Click <Start> button on Odin and it should flash the costum recovey .tar file pretty quickly.
-The tablet will simultaneously flash a progress bar and start to automatically reboot (also pretty quickly).
-Disconnect the tablet from the USB cable now.
If the tablet does not automatically reboot to the new custom recovery screen, then just power off the tablet completely. Wait 30 seconds, and then boot the table to recovery mode use the Method #1 shown above. You should now be able to go into the new custom recovery mode you flashed with Odin (CMW or TWRP). It should all work now.
From this point you can download and install SuperSU to add root (if you want to).
Let me know if this works for you.
ggee
