Hi, Can you help me to find out what this weird icon appeared on my galaxy note2. pls see attach picture. thanks
Settings/Display/Smart Stay
Basically it uses the front camera to detect your eyes and keep the screen on as long as you are looking at it
Hi,
All icons are normal. Don't worry.
Cheers!!!
Lol ... wow really Blahhhhhhhhhh

Hum I guess it's the icon that tells you that north Korea are spying on you...be careful watch over your shoulder lol

All normal
Nothing is weird, everything is normal
Smart Rotation
You enabled Smart Rotation.
Instead of using gyroscopes to determine position of the screen, it uses the front camera and position itself
according to your eyes.
You can enable/disable it in Settings/Display/ Smart Rotation.
The icon itself is Android telling you that it is reading your face at that precise moment to determine the correct screen orientation.

Hey guys so whenever I capture a new picture from the stock messaging app and put it in the text box it always rotates, is there a fix for that? I want it to show the way it looks on the camera.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I had this problem as well. In my case it was because the camera was rotating automatically when i was taking the picture and didn't notice. unfortunately the auto rotate lock doesn't fix this so you just have to manually rotate it.
Yeah I have that problem too. I read on a forum that it has to do with the way Samsung handles their MetaData. So there isn't really anything we can do to fix it.

This is simply a joke, what is up with the camera app?? It is literally slower then my old nokia brick!
It takes 4(!) seconds for the camera to open when sliding to it from the lockscreen or opening via the icon, and it takes 2 damn seconds to rotate from horizontal to portrait and vice versa, that is insane and I cannot believe Google hadn't fixed this yet. Are you guys furious about it as I am?
P.s I wanna stay stock, and I don't think I'm asking too much..
Edit: one more thing: if my camera is set to auto flash and I will snap a picture without first tapping to focus about 60% of the time I will get a blue tinted photo. If I tap to focus first the photo will come out normal, I think they've made it that way so we'll get faster capturing but what they did was basically making the camera take a picture before it identifies the correct white balance, giving a blueish resault. Basically the whole camera app is broken in my opinion.
I wish they would fix it, its really slow, I don't use it often.

You have been very slight. It takes at least 4 seconds.
The new camera sucks, not only is it super slow but it takes forever to focus if it focuses at all before taking a picture. And when the shot is taken you dont see the result on the display as in the old camera and one has to go into gallery first to see how the photo turned out.
And this stupid new menu.... It may look fancy but half the time the control is out of the display or covered by the finger. Worst menu ever and should have been done properly or not at all.
In short i hate the new camera.

R: What is up with 4.2.1 camera?!
I really like the new UI but the app it's really bad optimized, it really sucks. It's been a while now since the release of 4.2 and still there's no fix. I, personally, excepted more from Google.
I don't even like the new interface. The pop up menus suck, some of the options are always hidden behind my finger.
Hmm did Google ever revert something like this in the past or do you think they will stick with this crap no matter what?

I actually trusted Google to sort these kind of things pretty quickly as the community is very aware of minor glitches and such, but this camera app is above all glitches, and they're doing nothing..
I also miss the HDR mode in the app. The only reason why I don't change to a different camera app is the integration with the OS.
I have to say I only have one problem with the camera app and that's the ~1 sec freeze when changing orientation.
It does open a tad slow from the lock screen (~3 sec for me) but I think it's bearable. Opening from the icon seems to be about a second. Focus hasn't been an issue for me yet. The new menu can be operated by taps if you don't like having your finger in the way - or - you can just tap and hold to open the menu then slide your finger out past the icons and operate it with your finger out of the way. Finally, not having the little picture preview for the last is a bit annoying but it is far out-shined by being able to swipe to the right and see a large version of that picture (plus previous pictures) while still keeping the camera active and not having to open the gallery app.
Just sharing my opinion - I prefer this version over the previous app.
EDIT: For what it's worth I'm on Purity v4.2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2108705)
I'm in total agreement! The UI is fine but the length of time it takes to change orientation and even snap a picture is ridiculous.

Hmm... there is a delay when you try and take a picture? I don't see that on mine unless it is still focusing or using the flash, of course.
I was taking a picture yesterday and my phone freez and restart

i tried that tap operation for the menu, but the only way to get the menu open and staying open is to keep the finger on the screen.
is that maybe a rom option?

Tap the circle in the bottom right corner then tap to choose options only works with a finger on the screen? I don't know if my camera apk was modified to do this... it's just the one that came on Purity ROM.
Cant we just pull the 4.1.2 camera and gallery app ?
Or is it that 4.2.1 camera is hardcoded in Android due to photophere?

No, that does work on stock. Thanks, I never payed any attention to the circle in the corner. That does make the camera a little more usable.
Just tossing out there toroplus 4.2.1 ....my camera is great, perfectly fine, the rotation delay isnt a delay at all, its exactly the same delay is if i were on homescreen and rotating. Strange that such problems are noted ...

Sounds like maybe you are a new Android user. It's true, the rotation delay is the same as the delay seen when rotation other apps. This would not seem to be a problem to a new user, but if you were used to the old camera app where there was no delay at all when rotating then it clearly sucks.
Hi
There is an option on the camera menu to improve the visibility of the screen when taking pictures outside.
1. is there a way to force the setting to on always ?
2. can this option being used for other applications beside camera ?
regards,
Filip
Did you mean that the screen is too dim when you're in sunlight?
Double check that power saving is off as that dims the screen and also that brightness is set to max. Sadly though it will still be a falling of the phone. It's just not quite bright enough.

I bought my phone from an online store in Romania on February 22.I have warranty and other things, it was brand new. I kept the screen on full brightness, and Dynamic color mode. That's how I like it. I was aware of burn in so I switched colors with a display tester every 3 days or so. Yesterday I noticed that the spot where status bar is used to be in portrait mode is brighter than the rest of the screen when displaying blue, white and grey colors. Brighter not Darker. I searched on Google images and that doesn't look like burn in. It wasn't here until yesterday when I spotted it. It's barely visible with display tester but in Games videos photos and multi colored things it can't be finded, You need to look with max attention. I used Nova launcher to hide the status bar. I also heard that there are 2 different things, image retention which is fixable and permanent burn in. I searched for something like this but I don't seemed to find something good. I don't know what it is,I never browsed the Web without changing the pixels where the status bar is for more than 20 minutes. I heard burn in occurs in extreme cases. I don't know how this happened so that's why I'm asking you guys. I don't know even what to do it bothers me only in display tester, but otherwise the screen is perfect. Please give me an advice because I don't want to have a faulty screen.. Can it even be repaired under warranty for that?
No one knows what's the problem?
Maybe you could post a photo ?
Look at the top of the screen...That's actually what I'm seeing when looking on a blue test background. This kind of discoloration/brightness where the notification bar usually is when in portrait mode. This is not a screenshot or photo ,it's just a blue image that i modified to show about i'm talking about. It also happens on grey and white and cyan .I couldn't take a photo because i have a crap 7 MP shooter ,and one crapper 2 MP shooter on my old Galaxy Y.I tried them both but noone of them can catch thatstrange discoloration/burn-in/brightness
Xda don't let me to post links..That's the link without the X'es so delete X from this link to go to the image hXttp://i4XX4.tinypic.coXXm/2w4g39j.jpgX
I really don't know what this can be.
I have the same problem! I noticed it a few weeks ago. The bar on top, when in full screen mode, is slightly brighter/lighter compared to the rest of the screen. I can see it the most when using the browser. The screen looks slightly more yellow compared to the grayer (or something like that) bar. Remember the bar is not actually there, just the discoloration in its place. I have no idea what is causing this and I'm hoping it's not hardware related.
It ain't hardware if it shows up in a screenshot. Looks like the exact dimensions of the status bar, almost as if it's compositing it or it's shadow placeholder where it expects it to be. Try a different ROM, or install the Simplistic Framework and try changing the status bar's colour and transparency setting, see if it makes any difference.

I wrote that.It doesn't show up in screenshots.I edited a blue picture to look exactly like my phone screen. The problem I think it's the screen itself. And the reason for why I edited a picture is that as I said my shooters can't spot it.Any ideas? Also I use the stock ROM ,un-rooted..Everything stock ,including the notification bar.I just have a custom launcher wallpaper and widgets...
It shows up when you turn the phone in landscape mode as well. It remains on the side as a vertical discoloration where the notification bar resides when in portrait mode. I'm not pleased to say the least.

Exactly what's happening to me.
Made in china phones r crap..made in korea by samsung is gud quality
If you have the warranty the warranty, why not use it? Since the problem is from the phone itself.

My phone was on Dynamic and Full Brightness all the time.I love oversaturated and bright screens.LOVE AMOLED <3
Well I found a solution to the problem. It takes time to pull off and is still a work in progress for me but it's working.
I created an image that matched the resolution of the phone screen. I then made a rectangle at the top of this image that presents the exact size of the status bar and colored it white. The rest of the image was colored black.
I installed an app that keeps the screen on without dimming when plugged into the charger. Overnight I display the image I created with the screen set to stay awake and don't dim at full brightness. So what you see is a black screen with a full brightness white strip where the status bar is supposed to be.
This process quickly "ages" the status bar area and it slowly starts to match the rest of the screen. I've been doing it for almost a week and the difference between the two sections of the screen is starting to diminish. I bet a couple more weeks of this and the difference between the two sections will be gone.
I got the problem as well. And I'm telling as many people as I can because I'm annoying like that. Seriously, I hate the fact that I spent such money on faulty phone...Samsung galaxy note 2. <blech>
Unfortunately, Camera has stopped.
When i open the camera, the screen turns sideways, but the image from the aplication stand upright. why is that?

If when in camera mode you rotate the screen and the icons twist?, it means they are just positioned that way, giving the impression that the app has actually changed from landscape to portrait or vice versa but its always taking pictures right side up.

Correct but i think it may have to do with your screencap app. or just basic method to keep aspect ratio at its max regardless of device angle?
looking at the screen captured, although the notification bar is landscape, the writing is portrait(right side up according to ). if by some chance the camera app was made for landscape mode and having portrait as a rotation feature it still takes pictures right side up, even if taken from the 270 degree rotation of the screen. so my question is where is the camera problems? what besides your screencap of your camera app ready to take a picture showing a rotated notification bar. how about this? when you enter camera is phone rotated? and also what of this screencap app? who makes it?
