Putting music on the SD Card.. - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Is the only way through Samsung Kies? Whenever I try to drag and drop music on my SD Card it doesn't allow me to do when it is normally connected via USB. I would use Samsung Kies but I don't like the syncing and interface in general. With my Vibrant I was able to freely drag and drop music without any problems. Is there anyway to that on the S III? Thanks!

that's weird, I could easily drag and drop with no problems

Really? Hmm..I can drag it to the internal space, but for some reason it won't let me drag it onto my SD Card. It worked perfectly fine on my Vibrant though.

You can always use FTPServer app to connect your computer to your phone and transfer music that way.

I used windows explorer... make sure your phone isn't locked? (Screen on)

Use a SD card adapter. Or, you can try the app EasyUMS which allows your SD card to run as USB Mass Storage for quick transferring instead of the regular MTP connection.

Yeah I guess the SD Card Adapter is the best way to access my external storage. Anyone know how to make it work on internal storage though like editing files? It won't let me edit the like the properties of my music, lol.

You stock or custom rom?

I am on the stock ROM.

usb? connecting an android to a pc with physical cables? *sputter
in the immortal words of Scotty in IV, "a keyboard! how quaint"
use networking man!
on the pc ... "share" the drives/folders you usually access
download an app like ES File Explorer on your phone
access your pc files over your wifi in ES file explorer LAN section .. edit to login as if logging into your windoze
I am using the 5GHz band of My WiFi router.. which means I am transferring files between My pc and phone at speeds between 80-150Mbps :good:

I use poweramp and only set up the one folder on my external card.

What exactly happens when you try to drag-and-drop?
I am also using the stock ROM and it works for me, just tried it again to make sure. Do you have other things on the external card already ? Could the format be a possible issue ?

It all depends of what you want to do and what files. Some files CAN'T be move to SDCard, some programs have the options to be moved to SDCard.
You can do that under settings -> Application -> Manage Applications...click on applications and see if it gives you the option to move to SDCard.
I have lot's of applications install on SDCard.

[Q] Q: SD Card as Application Storage

I have a 16GB Galaxy Note II, and put a 32GB card into the unit. How do I use the SD Card for application storage, like my HTC EVO allowed me to do. I can't even use the Move To SD Card option in the Applications function under Settings.
Thank you.

You cant as of right now. Jelly Bean wont allow it. I dont know if this works for the sprint version but on the international version they were rooting and then putting directory bind on to allow them to do apps2sd. I believe directory bind is found on xda only. I dont know where it is. I was thinking of using it myself.
yet another complaint I have with this phone! I wont lie for the price tag im running into a lot of things my old EVo 3D could do with ease that I am banging my head against the wall trying to figure out on this device.
SO the best work around that I have done is use a program called Directory bind. However you will need to root your device in order for this program to work right. So... I dont know how you feel about doing that or how savy you are in rooting and all that good stuff.
I will say that it only takes about 20 minutes to root the device and install Directory Bind now I have a lot of my programs stored on the SD card instead of in the phones internal memory still though there should be a cleaner way to do this than have to use a program to work around it..
Do you have a link to directory bind?
I'll leave this right here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410262

sdcard0 to extsdcard
I found a scripts the tricks ICS to use your external sdcard as your internal storage. So when apps write data to sdcard0 it is actually writting to your external sd. I tried it and it works!
I dont have permission to post outside links but you can find it at galaxynote2root in the tutorials section.
Im not even worried about apps and their data moving to sdcard as much as I want a fix for the internal memory being labeled as sdcard..
On my past htc devices this wasnt the case... Its an issue having the Real sd card labeles as extSDcard because apps such as taparalk and my browser select the default term sdcard and dont allow the option to change the path to my real sdcard.
So anytime I save an image or a file it goea straight to internal storage instead of the sdcard. Again I could care less about apps2sd but I need to keep apps separated from files I download to the device. Dont want my phones 16 gigs being eaten up by my photos and music and roms and such..
Is there anyway to rename the sdcard without messing up the system any?

Ok, try ICS SD Binder in the app store. It will provide I link inside your sdcard0 directory that will give you the option to save your images to your extsdcard. So in what ever app your using if it has the options in the settings to choose your save directory, ICS SD Binder will provide the link to your extsdcard.

in the first box "original mount point" do i need to select /mnt/sdcard or /mnt/extSdCard ?
and New mount point should just be labeled external_sd. Do i need to check any of the boxes below?
Excuse the noobness with this app, never had to do this before with my other devices, it just worked as it should and didnt have internal memory lableled as sdcard when it wasnt.
Thanks in advance.
Just check bind sd to new mount point, you don't have to change anything else.

Link2SD does not work on the Note2. You need to use ICS SD BINDER. I tried it my self on my rooted GN2. But this will not let you run your apps from the sdcard. It only provides a link or a shortcut if you will in your sdcard0 directory that targets your external sdcard. So if you have an app that saves data and it lets you browse a location for the data in your sdcard0 directory, this gives you the opportunity to point that in your external sdcard directory. Ex, I use a app to hide my pic on my phone. the hidden encrypted pic are stored in the sdcard0 dir, and it does not give me now option to browse my external sdcard and save the files there, this app solves that problem.

There is an app out there called directory bind that people use on the S3, I will try it out and post my results

There's also a script you can run using script manager. Much simpler in my opinion. Makes the phone think the external sd is the internal memory. I haven't hqd any problems other than much more free space

extSdCard Read-Only issue, please help. = (

Hey folks, I have this read-only issue with my mounted extSdCard when trying to download as well as save files directly onto the extSdCard drive under ANY folder.
You see, I often use the android apps "uTorrent Pro" and the "YouTube Downloader" but they don't let me save directly to the extSdCard in ANY folder. How do I fix this without re-formatting my card or using a computer with a regular sized SD Card slot to input an SD Card adapter and micro card to have the computer read that card so I can flip the adapter into the unlock position? My reason for fixing this issue specifically without a computer is because I do not own a computer of any kind, so any fix using one is useless to me.
Also, I have the ES File Explorer app but it only allows me to view the "Permissions" settings but not change them. Is it possible to change the settings for just the entire extSdCard directory? Am I missing something here or do the updated versions of these apps just not allow one to save directly to the extSdCard??
In addition, I remember this never happening about 6+ months ago when I had my SanDisk 64 GB micro SD Card in my phone. I noticed that nothing saved directly to the micro card without having to manually transfer files from the internal to the external card when I upgraded to the SanDisk 45 mb/s R-Rw speed 128 GB card a few months ago. I'm tired of having to save things to the internal memory then transfer what was downloaded to my Micro SD Card.
Thanks.
Whenever you save stuffs, most apps give you an option on where/which folder to save to. You just have to find out where that option is. Others just save to int download folder and then you have to manually transfer. In ES file explorer, click the button in the top left-tools-root explorer, turn it on and then click it again to change the permissions.
Oh, almost forgot.... my S4 is NOT rooted and I don't have the capability of doing so as I do not own a computer. Any other fix beside choosing to turn on the Root Explorer option because it doesn't work for me?

Root your phone lol. You will only trip the Knox counter if you flash a custom recovery and/or different kernel
You can still root without a computer. What bootloader is your phone on?
If there's a way to root my phone without having to use a computer/tablet at all, please let me know!? Oh, and I just updated to the latest version of android released by TMobile just last week so TowelRoot does not work either... I tried already.

I couldn't find a way for anything higher than 4.3. Your best bet would be to see if you can borrow/use a friend or family members PC
Ok, thanks anyways for checking.

I think you should put all your files on the computer and then format the SD card. and then try it again with your phone. If it then still not works it's a phone problem and not a SD card problem
Thank me if I helped you!
