If adb is working you can unlock the bootloader and try to flash the rom. Also you can look at this giude

If you are S-ON, you need to flash the ROM's boot.img in fastboot each time you flash a ROM.

From fastboot, not ADB. Detailed instructions are in post #7 of the Ace Think Tank thread in my signature.

Did you unlock the bootloader?? If not flashing the boot.img won't work either. you need to try unlocking the bootloader from fastboot first, then when you have working phone you decide what to do.

hi
last night i tried to install android revolution HD 14.1 jellybean on my one x.
i unlocked the bootloader and put clockwork recovery on. I then created a backup through cwr just in case anything went wrong.
I then followed the guide on here to install the rom.
long story short it got stuck in a boot loop. I obviously didn't put the right boot.img file.
i still had access to recovery etc and continued to search online for solutions.
I decided to try and install the rom again.
so i relocked the bootloader and rebooted. i opened command prompt and typed in " fastboot oem rebootRUU" but i get (bootloader) (ERR) command error !!!
what do i do?
Did you update your HBOOT before you unlocked your bootloader?
What is your current HBOOT version?
Have you flashed the correct boot.img for ARHD 14.1?
We need a little more info on what you have done and/or not done.

You need to update your HBOOT to the latest one using this tool,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1924003
You need to put your unlock tiken and Boot.img in the same unzipped file as the firmware flasher stuff. Boot your phone into fastboot, start the .bat file and let it do it's thing, it will talk you through each step as it's doing it. Then you just need to flash the rom in recovery. Make sure your CID is on the list in the first page

ok, so i've updated hboot to 1.31. and unlocked the bootloader again. but now i can't flash recovery, i get FAILED Commaned write failed, unknown error.
what do i do now?
Probably best to flash the recovery and boot.img through fastboot manually and then Rom through recovery.

Hi all , hope someone can help , I can only get into fastboot on it , it does a bootloop thats all , is it easy to reinstall RUU
tmobile uk htc one x
I done fastboot getvar version-main and it came up - 2.17.110.5 if that helps
many thanks
what did you do before it bootloop?
If you've tried to install a custom rom, you have probably forgotten to flash the boot.img separately.
Otherwise. To flash the RUU, you need to RElock your bootloader "fastboot oem lock" and then run the .exe RUU file as administrator.

Hi all,
I've tried to install newer InsertCoin ROM, during HBOOT update, the phone booted to his current ROM with no Wi-Fi or Mobile access, recovery stuck with red triangle, Trying to install some custom recovery using fastboot v1.2 - got "writing recovery - failed not allowed" message. What is the fastest way to get phone back to work?
Did you re-unlock the bootloader after updating the hboot?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Not allowed error is when the bootloader is locked or relocked. Unlock it via the htcdev site and flash a custom rexovery. Then flash the boot img from the new rom, make a FULL wipe in the recovery and install the new rom !

The phone os S-ON , is it ok? Should I flash new image using flashboot or other interface? Thanks In Advance
I'm not talking about S-On ....I'm talking about a locked or relocked bootloader.
Is it unlocked ?
When you succesfully updated your hboot with a firmware flash you MUST unlock the bootloader, flash a new custom recovery, install a new JB rom and flash its boot.img
A custom gets broken when you update the hboot because locking/unlocking will set the phone to factory state. So it will delete the current custom rom.
Also could you, guys, elaborate why my original ROM started to act spooky - no Wi-FI and so on.
Probably because you updated the hboot. You have to start from scratch after that. It gets messed up
I did as you proposed, unlocked bootloader, installed CWM recovery, wiped data, dalvik cache and installed the InsertCoin ROM, the issue - that I got same problems - Wi -Fi displayed error and not started, SIM is not recognized, no network. Could you please advise what to do now?
Flash the boot.img from the insertcoin rom !

Inside the insertcoin rom there will be a a boot.img.
you will need to write this in fast boot.
erase cache
flash boot boot.img

If your bootloader is S-On unlocked, you need to flash the boot.img from fastboot each time you flash a ROM.

Yes you can flash any ROM while S-On. S-Off is not needed for that.
And yes, you can get to recovery via your bootloader. But once you have a custom ROM, the option to boot to recovery will be available when you long press power.
S-OFF only really comes handy as you can flash different FW packages that aren't signed by HTC, or downgrade to an older FW package if required/wanted
