its on the todo list... will do it asap. as of now its crashing @240dpi right?
yep crashes outright and nasty it really don't like 240dpi I will have screen shots up shortly.
OK 240dpi is the way the Note II should have been shipped. you folks running Note II's no your not. your not running a Note II till you goto 240dpi and see the amazing difference in makes (unless you have soso eyesight then you might want to stay at 320 dpi but com eon 5.5" display !!!)
but alas some of the SAMSUNG specific phone apps are designed FOR this phone so there is no reason for samsung to make them "scalable" (lazy bums
so Bala_Gamer figured out how to "alter" them to display properly at 240dpi (which makes them prettier more usable and in some cases usable at all since some apps crash outright) these mods "fix" them so they work right and look right.
I am LOVING it.
Ok Screenies of everything but the dialer (I seem to have misplaced my dialer since installing exdialer .... using the S3 Dialer pics for now (its identical)

Yup, like nerys71 said, it just FCs over and over again. It would be a huge win if you got that working -- it's the only way to use handwriting input.

I went to 240 and didn't like that I had to use swype so I went back.

I'd do it but how do I get it to show the folders? I'm using 7-zip and it's not showing the folders inside
winrar opens the zip fine. there are two root folders. META-INF and mode
there is a zipalign file in the mode folder
I have ZERO skill at this so DO NOT apply this without a backup I may have done it wrong and may screw your phone !!! remember its a $700 phone
I unzipped it replaced the zipalign file and then zipped it back up again. I am assuming its that simple? (bala?)
try it and see what happens in twrp
All you have to do is replace the zipalign. I have been doing this to flash gsm note 2 mods constantly.

now does modding this for twrp "break" it for CWM or any others ?

First of all:
DO NOT EVEN DARE COMPLAIN ABOUT ANYTHING NOT WORKING OR IT FORCE CLOSING IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THIS POST
Second (ye olde cyanogen's mega awesome disclaimer):
I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards, thermonuclear war, or the current economic crisis. Please do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this system app before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modificiations, and if you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
Ok, now that's over and done with
Description:
This is the GS3 touchwiz launcher, rescaled to work with the Nexus' stock density/resolution, and with an extra homescreen row added to take advantage of the 720p display. It's pretty smooth, Samsung have done a pretty good job
I'm going to be away for a while, moving to Europe to hopefully find a job in my field (if you guys know anyone looking for game artists, please foward them on to my portfolio ) So I probably won't be able to continue work on this until I get settled somewhere. I know Madphone will continue working on it for his TW addon pack, if people are interested in getting the widgets working etc.
Thanks everyone for your support and everything, has been much appreciated
Installation Instructions:
Flash TW5launcher.zip in recovery. Tested in CWM, experiences may vary in other recoveries.
Download Link:
http://multiupload.biz/0rjhd04oyh7i/TW5launcher_MultiUpload.biz.zip.html
Known Bugs:
- Wallpaper picker options don't work properly. This is because most of the options rely on the more system side components of touchwiz - for now, just use the "set wallpaper for homescreen option"
-Bottom Icon Row is cut off in landscape mode
-Wallpaper doesn't scroll (looking into it - It's meant to not scroll by stock, but I don't think it would be a bad feature to have, depending on performance impact.) Decided to keep it unscrolling for performance reasons.
Do i need to flash it? Or can i just push in to system/app ??

This!
But he does have a good point, you can push to system/app, but you will probably still have to install the app over the top of it to get it to work. I just listed the most foolproof way I could think of in order to decrease the likelyhood of people complaining about having problems by not doing it properly (ie. pushing to system/app, but not setting the correct permissions).
I'll update the OP in a second.

It worked fine by pushing it + setting the permissions. Thanks...
Since I have a stock recovery I tried the "copy to system/app, mess with permissions and clear stock launcher defaults" method and it works as well as can be expected since we are missing some of the SGS3 framework.
The Lightflow bug that makes Google books read aloud makes changing desktops talk to you which is kind of funny.
Love ya work as this seems to be good enough to use everyday. Touchwiz was never that bad but it's nice to have the choice on a Nexus device.
Edit: Just noticed in landscape it chops the bottom line of icons off. Not a complaint but if it's an easy fix?...please?

Thx for this. An excellent performing launcher as smooth as I've seen ever on the GN. I can't get it to work though through a reboot. Using the instructions verbatim or not. Still super cool to play with!

I was just looking for a dark and good looking JB Keyboard,
but I couldn't find a simple dark keyboard as I had found for my ICS.
So I just copied the conted of the drawable-xhdpi folder from my
ICS-Dark-Keyboard to the drawable-xhdpi folder of the JB-Stock-Keyboard and the AOSP/AOKP Stock Keyboard.
So the theming-credit goes to someone else I don't know by name, but I realy love this stock looking dark keyboard.
My contribution is only the idea to put it into a 4.2 Keyboard APK and make the flashable ZIP
hope you like it, have fun guys!
in some cases it can cause Keyboard FCs so Backup before!
if you've played with your DPI it could happen that you will not see any changes because this Keyboard is JUST for XHDPI (320DPI)
Check your Keyboard APK Name and ROM-Type before you download and flash!
Download flashable ZIP
(pick your fitting version from my Google Drive )
Outdated 4.1 Version:
LatinIME.apk for AOSP Androids
LatinImeGoogle.apk for Stock Androids
Do it yourself way for every ROM and everyone who can use a ZIP Tool:
Code:
- Download res.zip from my Googledrive
- extract your ROMs Keyboard file (LatinIME.apk, LatinImeGoogle.apk, no matter wich one you have) using a Root Explorer
- copy your keyboard file to a PC
- open your Keyboard file with 7-zip (open Source)
- go to res/drawable-xhdpi and drag&drop all the files from the res.zip's drawable-xhdpi folder you've downloaded
- put back the changed keyboard APK to your phone, copy it to system/app and don't forget to change the permissions to what it was before
Thats all, no magic required!
Thanks !
No problem!
if someone is going to use this keyboard in his ROM or THEME feel free to do, I don't care. :victory:
have fun guys
This looks great thanks.

Black key's on black ground? I don't think so, I like it dark, but I like it visible
Background is pure black and the key's just slightly visible.
I've seen some other dark keyboards in some themes here, maybe you find something suitable for you there
I don't want that this thread will be forgotten in the nowhere of the Themes Forum
I just tried this on ParanoidAndroid 1.8 and it didn't take, is it the same for anyone else?
Edit: ok I just noticed that it actually just added a second android keyboard to the system instead of skinning it, so now I have both the regular and dark skinned keyboard, it also shows two keyboard icons in the notification bar which is kind of annoying lol

Seems that your ROM uses another Keyboard APK Name. So this ZIP doesn't replace it, it just add the skinned Keyboard to your System/App folder.
If you want to have just the skinned keyboard you simply take a look to system/app and find out what the old name of your Keyboard apk was.
Then delete the Old one and change the name of the LatinIMEgoogle.apk to the name of the old one.
Works perfectly fine on Xenon HD ROM.
Love the dark keyboard

The title says it all.
I have tried numerous S-memo and S-note apks on my S2 using ICS and JB. I tried different DPI versions. I never got it working. The closest I could get was:
- The S-Note app would open but force-close when I'd create a new note.
- The 240dpi S-Memo app would never fit the SGS2 screen(God knows why?).
- Everything install, opens but wrong size and no input.
I'm NOT asking to port S-Pen features! I just want the Doodle(Finger-drawn) input and Text input... It's really nice and the only thing that need on my GS2.
I've heard several rumors about a fully functional S-Memo port... but even after searching for more than a month, I'm not able to find a functional one... I have tried at lease 14-15 different apks. (Including some that I pulled off system dumps myself)
So, its pretty straightforward---> Is there a working S-Memo/S-Note apk for the S2(with fixed PNGs) ?
[It doesn't matter if it works only on GB/ICS/JB.. I'll re-flash my phone for this beautiful app!)
Thanks! I hope for a reply!

I have been making some mods to scale all samsung apps @240 dpi for a while on international s3. Now with requests from sprint s3 users im posting these mods here which are made separately for sprint s3 users. All these mods are universal , so you can flash it over almost all deodexed roms.
A big thanks to @nerys71, its because of him i started working for sprint s3 dpi mods
Apps included in the package(based on lj7 rom)

Killer mod! finally full 240dpi is realized! if/until he gets the keyboard fixed trust me just install the 4.2 keyboard its far superior anyway
Some screenies of the finished results
If you have messed with DPI you will have noticed some apps (notably the stock OEM apps) don't "scale" they are fixed size so they either FC or they display out of scale. Like the dialer

4.2 APPS
First these are NOT APPS. these are ... bala what do you call them?.... they "MODIFY" an existing file. only certain built in S3 "samsung" apps don't scale. These files "edit" those files so they scale and display properly at 240dpi. This is why you need to be on a STOCK Deodexed LJ7 S3 Sprint Rom. (or a rom based on that)
NO NEED so far all 4.2 apps I have tried all "scale" so they function PROPERLY at either DPI
Here are the Pop Up Browser (if anyone can find where I got this and provide a link for credit to whoever made it available??) I can't find it but this is the version that works with the S3 Sprint and Bala's mod.
and here is the 4.2 keyboard (don't even mess with the samsung keyboard it blows chunks next to the 4.2 keyboard and it scales properly at 240dpi
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/53179796/LatinImeGoogle_signed.apk
the POP UP flash from CWM the keyboard you can simply install like any other apk directly. then goto menu settings language and "enable" it and it will then be selectable as a keyboard.
the swype keyboard built into the S3 also works at 240dpi but it does not enter spaces in the web browser for some reason ??
OK so you only use this if you previously tinkered with the dpi ?and this fixes it?

if you switch your S3 to 240dpi everything gets smaller. its like upping the resolution on your computer but in this case we are "scaling down" the size of the UI.
if you wish to STAY at 240dpi you will note some apps don't DISPLAY properly. this "fixed" those apps so they display properly at 240dpi.
if you plan to stay at 320 DPI (stock) do NOT install this
Great Work!
Good Work!!!
Im working on doing something similar for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.
Cwm? Seriously
Samsung Galaxy S III
I installed this mod on the Jelleybomb rom which is based in LJ7 and the camera force closes, anybody?

Are you running at 240DPI?
《Samsung rom》
Bala_gamer can probably answer better but for whatever reason TWRP refuses to "flash" these files. it goes through the motions but does not actually "do" anything.
other recoveries might work. TRY IT and report back if it works. if it don't work odin CWM and try it. when done odin back your preferred recovery or however you install it.
I am using this plus the keyboard and launcher from your international thread and been working fine. There are several apps that I would like to rework and have no idea what you are doing to fix these apps. If it is one or two lobe changes in the apks to make them work I would be glad to do it myself otherwise I need your help. This list is apps I noticed that need adjusting and I am sure it will take a lot of time and effort but I think it will pay off if we can keep using this psych method so when the Roms are updated we can just run the zips... hopefully
Photo Editor - almost unusable as the changes you make aren't aligned with what it appears.
Video Editor - black extra space
MMS app - chat bubbles don't get wide enough
Google Now - Card and search width not wide enough
Navigation - narrow here and top icons cut off. Maps part is fine, just the initial screen is off.
Within apps like Talk and MMS when you click a contact icon the Contact pop-up is too small. Is this a global setting?
My goal is to have 100% 240dpi support but I know that will take a lot of time. If you can explain what to look for and a tutorial how to port stuff to 240dpi, I would be glad to do what I could myself. Thanks to you I did manage to fix the talk bug on the Sprint variant. Thanks again

Thank You X1000000000000000 for this! Seriously, this is awesome. Everything finally looks like it should in 240!
Most definitely worth the flash to CWM!
Guys to make life simple; to get CWM just go to the play store, search for and install ROM Manager. Open it, click flash CWM select the SIII and done! No Odin needed! Takes around 2 minutes. Painless and it is worth it.
Thank you again!

Does this work for LJ7? Which is 4.1.1 or not
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
YES Lj7 is what I am running.
Whoops I was sleepy, I was thinking multiview not the pop up browser... lol
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
we don't have multiview working on the sprint S3 yet (I think they got it ported on the International S3's but it will not work on the sprint S3) it has to be ported sprint to sprint AFAIK.
if you have multi view working on the S3 please provide the link for where you got the files and how you installed it if its not clear.
do you guys want 240 dpi clockpackage?
Hey, guys! Firefox Beta is currently my browser of choice, but due to the DPI settings of our beloved Nexus 7, the app uses the Phone UI. Just look at it!

Now, let's take a look at it's layout when it sees a proper tablet DPI.
Fabulous! Now let's figure out how we can achieve this...
First of all, we need to install a framework called Xposed. This handy app can modify your ROM without touching an APK or having to flash anything. If your interested, read more about it in its OP. Speaking of the OP, you'll be downloading the APK at the bottom under attachments
You'll find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401
Open the app and touch the 'Install/Update' button. It should install successfully and request that you reboot your device. Do so now.
Now, we need to grab the app that will allow us to change the DPI settings per app. The app will also allow you to deny permissions to apps, but that's not why we are here.
You'll find the app in the attachment section of the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2072081
Install it and then open the previously installed Xposed Installer. Switch over to the Modules tab and checkmark the Xposed App Settings. Reboot.
Almost done!
After you've rebooted, open up the Xposed App Settings app. Scroll down to the app you would like to modify. In this case, we'll be changing Firefox Beta to tablet mode. Select Firefox Beta when you find it and enable it. Once enabled, you'll be greeted with the following screen:
Yours won't look exactly like that, but you'll need to make yours look like that also. Your DPI can be anything between 160 and 177. Once you've applied those, touch the wrench icon on the top right and force stop the app. go back to the app and touch the icon to the left of the |> icon. It'll ask you if you want to kill the application, do it again for good measure.
Success! Touch the |> icon to start the app and it should be laid out in all its tablet glory!
Bonus: You can also get the tablet, dual pane version of the Settings app by setting the resolution to 1000x1600 in Xposed App Settings.
In closing, take a look at some before and after pictures for some apps that don't have tablet lay outs by default.

As you can see, most of the text is squeezed together in an undesirable fashion. I switched it back. I also believe Pulse has a tablet layout, but I'm not sure.
If you know of any more apps that do this, let me know.
Tried and followed instruction, was able to change the UI but i think changing the dpi doest work thanks for sharing
Hmmm xposed wouldn't let me install the files it just froze

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm no developer, so I can't be of much help with issues like that. Your best betis to ask the developer of xposed in his thread, or trying again.
This worked for me... thanks!
I was thinking about flashing paranoid but now I can keep my stock rom

Except it's no longer stock; you've modified the framework. Keep that in mind when you get an OTA.
So how do you know if xposed installed the files correctly does it auto reboot?
Edit: nvm it worked! Time to get modding thanks Larry!

Looks like CM doesn't like this or you're having unrelated issues. :/
Well soft reboot worked, good enough for me

Good guide thanks. I already did this with chrome to make it work with a site I use.
...
Not sure I see how Firefox looks any better though. Looks horrible both ways. Truly a terrible browser imo. No redeeming features for me since I am not interested in flash.
Thanks for the guide. The setting app just fc. Can't help anything even I fixed permission already

I've since ditched the browser for Lightning Browser. Tablet may look the same, but the tab system feels much better in tablet mode.
Flash also works fine on Lightning Browser.
EDIT: OP updated with info for dual pane Settings app. Too lazy to check it? Well, it's simple. Select 1000x1600 resolution for the Settings app.
