I have a bit of a strange question, and I hope it fits here in this forum. In S Note, I am able to insert various shapes, hand writing to text, and formulas. After having them inserted, I am able to easily tap and hold these items, then I can move and resize them any way I want.
My question comes with text mode, where you type with a keyboard. When I tap on text mode, it places on giant text box over the entire page. The cursor starts on the top left corner and you can type as normal. But I have not been able to figure out how I can select the entire box created by text mode. I would love to type something out with my keyboard, then move it to a different part of the page. How can I select the giant box created by text mode?
Right now the only work arounds I have found are to either make a screen clipping of the text I typed, or to use spaces and enters to move my text to the proper spot on my page.
Thanks for your help.
Are you talking about cutting and pasting? If not, you lost me.
Rather than just starting to type, you need to insert a text box first with the insert icon (second from right in the toolbar) and type some text in it. After taping away, you can long press on the text and the box will appear for resizing/moving.

Can someone tell me if this is normal please?
I can't highlight text to cut, copy or delete like I used to be able to on my kaiser
For example, if I go to google and search "one two three", am I supposed to be able to tap at the end of a previous word (one or two) and be able to drag the stylus to highlight it to delete, cut or whatever?
I can't do this is my txt msgs either. If I want to delete a word or part of a sentence, I have to tap behind the last letter and press delete on the onscreen or physical keyboard. A bit annoying because it deletes letter by letter
I can however highlight text to delete, cut or copy in contacts, the url bar, my calendar (only in appointments, not in notes), word.
I can't highlight text to delete, copy, or cut in tasks, internet explorer, messaging, msn.
is this normal or is just my phone? I just got it on thursday so if this isn't supposed to happen then I will take it back to the store.
Please help!
On any screen, press down on the screen and hold until the menu pops up, and there's an option to turn on text selection. Since the OS now scrolls with finger flicks, copying text is hard to distinguish from scrolling so this is why it works this way now.
I have my text settings set to be threaded but instead of putting my text's in a nice orderly thread (like the original TP did) I get all the messages from whoever is sending them at the bottome and everything I sent at the top. Has anyone else noticed this? If so has anyone discovered a fix for this? PLease? it makes it hard to track where my discussions are going and/or where we've been (like when some references a previous text from me I have to search through all the texts from me that are slammed at the top).
The other problem I have is on my touch pro it had the time of the text for every text not just mine, can we fix that too?
Thanks ahead of time. I tried searching but came up with nothing close to what I am having.
Are you on the stock build?
Yes, just got it last night, I like everything about it except this...well, not everything. the start menu takes time to get used to as well...
I forgot to mention that the keyboard doesn't have a CTRL button...who would design a keyboard without a CTRL button? How am I supposed to copy things? especially now that touchflo doesn't wanna let me press and hold and select copy (or what have you)?
most text fields you should be able to straight highlight and copy. For other text you may have to go into menu and set it to "Make text copyable", or something along those lines I don't quite remember the exact words.
As for your SMS, I haven't run across this issue and am unable to find anything via searches. Have you tried disabling and re-enabling? Soft Reset? Hard reset?

You can find an app in these forums called "Rhodium Key Remapper" that will allow you to assign one of the other keys to the "CTRL" function
Hello people,
I have a problem when texting with my desire and it's this annoying i think of selling it if no-one has a solution for this.
The problem is when typing a textmessage to someone. When i have like a bigger conversation (in the way that you have to scroll up to see the first textmessage of the conversation) and i'm busy typing the message, the phone would suddenly jump up to the very top of the conversation. The keyboard dissappears and i have to manually scroll down the whole conversation again to be back at the screen where i was writing the message in to continue typing.
It's very annoying and sometime's it happens like 3 times typing one textmessage.
If the conversation is rather big (take 200 textmessages) i'm more busy scrolling than typing. Quite silly for a highend phone.
I flashed, flashed, flashed, full wiped everything over again and the problem just doesn't disappear.
Someone noticed this too?
I also suffer from this annoying issue from time to time. It would be great if somebody could help us!

Since Froyo/Android 2.2;
Sometimes when writing SMS, the typing window can disappear and the display zooms all the way up to the very first message to that contact.
You could scroll back down endlessly of course, but instead just turn the phone to change the screen orientation and you'll get straight back to the text entry window.
SOMEtimes even that doesn't work, in which case menu/add subject. That'll get you back to the text entry window for sure. (Obviously don't actually enter a subject or it'll change the message to an MMS)

Also you can just hold down the Menu button and it will open the keyboard and go back to the bottom of the messages

How do you use the phone pad after making a call? I dial a number and then need to input a password but can't get back to the key pad?
Thanks..
Which ROM are you on? I am currently able to do so with AOKP and was able to do so on Evervolv Preview 7.
EDIT: I misread your post. When the call is active, press the icon with a 3x3 grid of squares and one square below the grid. Picture is worth a thousand words:
http://www.androidpolice.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/10-18-2011-7-53-15-PM1.png
Very bottom left icon in that screenshot.
Thanks, but I don't see any thing in your png file.
I have tried both Evervolv Preview 7 and aokp_inc_build-23
I see accross the top
a phone, call log , and contacts
across the bottom
search, phone, delete key
when I enter a number and dial I see
a back key and speaker.
That is curious.. I have the exact screen you see in Android Central's screenshot on both ROMs (just updated to build 23 this afternoon, it still works). I'm not sure why it's not working for you...
Is there a setting that I could be missing?
I looked all over in the phone app and didn't see anything there at all; even tried using "Menu" whilst in call, that didn't do anything at all.
...or maybe I'm too much of a noob to know how to do it in Android.
I'm on NardRom 0.2...
ALL NOTIFICATIONS: The BB had this screen which gave you a full history of every action, whether its an SMS you've received, an email you've sent, an app you've installed. It's a one page with everything (and its not threaded). In the Android notification screen, you see that you've gotten 6 emails, but it does not show them separately. Also, it does not show emails that you have sent.
MAGNIFYING GLASS: In the iOS when you have typed a word, you can hold down the screen and wait for the magnifying glass that helps you move exactly to the letter you want to change.
RECONFIGURE BUTTONS: The hard buttons (capacative I think they're called). I want to configure them for when I press them once as well as holding them down.
CLEAR FIELD: In the BB, you can just click on a field and then clear it all out.
LOCK: The screen locks itself and you have to do a bit of a drag to unlock. This can get tedious. I get the need for the pattern security feature but its probably not necessary to drag unlock every time I switch on the phone.
TAP TO TOP: On the iPhone, you can click the time status bar on the top and it scrolls all the way to the top of the page.
If you now of an alternate way to do this, it would be really great to know!

Instead of the magnifying glass, we have a little blue handle. Tap roughly where you want the cursor and it should show up below the text, and you can drag it wherever you want it. I attached a pic to clarify. To clear a text field, you can always long-press it and cut the text, though that's not the best solution it certainly beats holding backspace.
You can change the lock screen to be a simple slide to unlock, similar to the iphone, or even no unlock screen, where tapping the power button unlocks the device. It's in settings > security > screen lock. Additionally, if you're using the phone and the screen turns off while your reading something, if you tap the power button relatively quickly, it will unlock without any unlock screen.
You do realize that the little magnifying glass and tap to top would certainly cause moar patent trolling from apple, right?
Also, I'm pretty sure you can get detailed notifications on Android too, but there must be a reason no one has come up with it just yet. My guess: it's because we're OK with our notifications as they are.
On ics I see my emails separately on the notification screen.

I miss having to ssh files onto my iPhone because I couldn't mount it as a drive
I miss having to trick my iPhone into accepting custom notification tones
I miss having to bend over backwards to hack a single neutered widget onto my homescreen
I miss having to spawn a billion blank icons to arrange my icons the way I wanted them (I.e. not upper left justified)
I miss having to go to a centralized settings app to change app settings
There's probably more. I just miss my iPhone 3G so darn much.

Assuming you're using the gmail app, open it up, click menu > settings. Go to your account, Ringtone & Vibrate, and uncheck the notify once box. Back out one menu, go to Manage labels. Click on each label you want to receive individual email notifications for, and uncheck the notify once box there as well. You'll now have individual notifications for every email, instead of just a counter when you have more than one.
You can also set Sent mails to sync here, however it won't show them as notifications as sent mails are automatically marked as read. Still, this means if you don't have a data connection you can browse through all of your recent sent mails. If you're frequently without data and need to view previous mails, change the number of days to sync to something larger than the default, which I believe is 3 day. I use 30 days, personally.
I don't use the other email app for non-gmail, but I'd assume it would have a similar setting for notifications. It's not a complete notification history, but sounds like it's one step closer to what you want for your email.
