Hi!
I recently rooted my Desire with unrevoked 3 and I installed the ReflexS rom. Everything worked perfectly!
I was curious for Cyanogenmod and I downloaded version 7.0.3 directly through Rom Manager. When the download was completed it suggested to install which I agreed. I think clear Dalvik cache was marked, but clear data cache was not. I agreed... maybe my first mistake.
After this Cyanogenmod was installed, but my Desire stayed on the boot screen (sakteboarding android with running arrow) for over 30min so I took out the battery. I restarted and it goes well until the android setup screen "tap the android to begin". I can tap and it gets glowing, but it does not continue! I can not go any further than this. The only thing I can do is choose a language or shutdown.
To overcome this issue I thought of recovering/reinstalling my previous ROM. I also have a Titanium backup.
Now here's the problem: when start up into recovery, my volume buttons won't work so I can not enter into the recovery menu.
What should I do?
I'm getting desperate, because my phone is down at the moment!
Thanks for your help!
you mean volume buttons dont work in recovery or in bootloader ?
in recovery you can navigate using trackpad, in bootloader you must wait around 10-15 seconds until you can use volume buttons to navigate.
and yes it was a BIG mistake not to make a wipe before the flashing of cyanogenmod....
you should have done a full wipe
Ok will firstly, go to the Cyanogenmod stable topic to read how to install out. Secondly, avoid rom manager. Thirdly, to boot into recovery, boot your phone like normal and plug your phone into your pc. After about 20 second the usb will kick in. This is where you use the adb reboot recovery command in command prompt or terminal. Enjoy.

You can alwys get into recovery through the adb shell.
Hi.
I know this tread is old but the issue is relevant because this is still a persistant problem.First of all thanks for the tip and second i have great, great news !!! you dont even have to deassemble the phone to put the up down button to work.Just insert the alcool UNDER the volume button with a seringe with a needle and click the button for a minute or two...wait until the alcool evaporates and VOILÁ !! problem fixem !! Not need todeassemble or using adb.Just do this and you will be fine.
I have a Tmobile G2 rooted running Gingervillian (gingerbread 2.3.1) and I tried to install the Desire z hboot to get the Sense ui.
I followed the steps here, "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogZfSWLlvPg"
HERES THE PROCEDURE OF WHAT I DID:
After updating the PC10IMG.zip (Desire Z hboot) folder to the root of my G2, I was stuck on the HTC logo screen after updating. So I followed what the guy said in the video, deleted the PC10IMG file in my SD card then rebooted my phone.
After rebooting my phone, I was booted back same rom. So I flash/recovery my phone through Rom Manager and tried rebooting my phone to clockwork mod recovery mode.
After rebooting, I didn't go to Clockwork Mod but to FASTBOOT screen? I select "bootloader" and it goes to a quick load that says something like "SD loading, no image or wrong image". I select "Recovery" then it goes to the HTC logo for a split second then I'm back to FASTBOOT screen again.
This is the info on the fasboot screen? don't know if that'll help:
Vision pvt eng S-off
Hboot-0.84.2000 (pc1010000)
Microp-0425
Radio-26.02.15_m2
eMMC-boot
Sep 8 2010, 15:65:38
So now, I don't know what to do and my questions are:
1.) Is there a way to go back to the G2 hboot?
2. Can I still fix this and procedure on and install new roms on recovery clockwork mode, using Desire Z hboot? (as the video did)
Please help a brother out I'm still a noob and still learning. If this is in the wrong place, please move it to the correct place.
Anyone? if it seems confusing, please ask questions or if I need to provide more information. I really need help with this. Any suggestions will help.

would any PP99IMG.zip file work? And do I basically put it in the SD's root and put it into the boot menu to update the file?
Thanks
by the way, is this compatible with G2s?
don´t put the pp99img.zip on your sd !
do something different:
download a recovery.img (3.0.2.4 for vision):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...sion#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD
be sure to remove any pc10img.zip or so from your sdcard. then put your phone in fastboot mode (power & tp-wake) connect it to pc and flash the recovery through fastboot by typing: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
after that you should be able to enter recovery. be sure to wipe before installing a new rom...

Yes, you can run adb on a Mac. See the link to my adb guide in my signature (assuming you're not viewing from the XDA app, which doesn't show the full sig).
Sent from my Desire Z running CM7.
Okay, just to make it clear (I am a "step by step" guy when it comes to technical computer/phone stuff.), from my understanding:
1. Download the recovery.img (3.0.2.4 for vision) and put it in the root of my SD card.
2. Delete any pc10img.zip files from SD card.
3. Turn phone off and then turn phone onto FASTBOOT mode by holding power/volume down/camera or power and tp-wake? (Btw what's tp-wake? and during this process, is the phone in fastboot screen mode while I'm about to type the "flashboot flash recovery recovery.img"?
4. Connect to computer, open up terminal (Mac) and do the ADB process and type in "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
5. Wipe clean and install new rom in recovery mode? (Clockwork Mod recovery mode?)
PLEASE correct my steps or add in any steps that I'm missing. I bought my phone rooted so I never went through these steps before. Anyways please correct me, I don't want to ruin my phone anymore than it is already.
anyone can review my steps?
good morning
ad step 1: don´t put it onto your sd; put it into the adb tool folder on your pc !
ad step 3: tp-wake = the square button at the bottom of your phone (the one that acts like a mouse); to enter fastboot mode press power & tp-wake
...the phone should be in fastboot mode while typing the command.
before you type "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" type "fastboot devices" and look if your phone shows up... if so go ahead with flashig the recovery (by the way, you may have to rename the recovery file)
step 4 and 5 look fine...
good luck
okay, I will try it in a little bit here.
In FASTBOOT USB mode, it wont recognize my device but when my device is fully on, adb works.
I get when I type "flashboot devices" (while the phone is on FASTBOOT) in terminal and get:
"-bash: fastboot: command not found"
By the way, I renamed the downloaded flash to "recovery.img" and put that file in the "platform-tools". Don't know if that'll work.
The "fastboot" command should be on your PC in the same folder as the "adb" command. Where did you get adb from, did you install the SDK and platform tools, or something cut-down ?
Sent from my Desire Z running CM7.
hm... that means that you do not have fastboot installed. maybe google for fastboot on mac, because i have a linux system... so i can´t help you in that point.
other thing you could do is following this guide (it´s a pc10img.zip with dz hboot and clockwork recovery):
http://www.virtuousrom.com/2011/06/t-mobile-g2-users-migrating-to-desirez.html
but first i would try the fastboot method - it´s safer.
Okay, I got the fastboot devices to read my phone. But it cannot load my recovery.img?
This is what got when I typed in "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" :
error: cannot load 'recovery.img'
rename it to recovery and try again...
It's not loading the img file for some reason..

update_package=sd card update.zip

same
Same thing here (or at least very similar). Hoping there's a simple solution like the "Odin back to stock" I can do on my SGS phone.
are you sure that the bootloader say "unlock mode"?
If so, then try this.
try this
Install the USB drivers on your PC if you haven't done it already. ( http://global-download.acer.com/GDF...A TAB&Step3=A100&OS=a08&LC=en&BC=Acer&SC=PA_6 )
install android SDK. ( http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html )
copy the update.zip file to your SD card root.
download TWRP recovery ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1608152 ) and place it in the platform-tools dir where the SDK was installed ( ex. C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools )
Once all that is done follow these steps
1) boot the tablet to fastboot mode
2) run command prompt on PC (cmd.exe)
3) cd to the platorm-tools dir
4) type the following lines one at a time.
adb.exe
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery NAMEOFRECOVERY.img (ex. recovery-A100ICS-TWRP.img)
5) hold the vol down button on the tablet
6) type fastboot reboot.
The tablet should now reboot to the recovery program. Goto settings and mount the external SD card, then flash the update.zip by going to install.
Hope this helps

Did you rename/delete /etc/install-recovery.sh ?
I think you're not. Try to make hard reset, then boot normaly rename/delete this file and after that flash recovery again, it should work.
All it's explained here.

That's awesome news!!!
Number 1 is the correct command.
Just making sure you are actually in fastboot (bootloader) mode. On the command-promt type "fastboot devices", if you see the result below, then you're good
? fastboot (yes that's a question mark)
Now be sure you are in the directory with the recovery image and issue number 1 command (fastboot flash recovery whatever-recovery.img). If you get some errors, be sure to check the MD5 hash of the recovery image cuz it could be a corrupted download.
Of course, you can't flash the custom recovery if you still have a locked bootloader.
you guys rock..even closer
Thank-you everyone ..I am soooo close. I did get the recovery image to load (I accidently had it in android-sdk and not platform-tools...oooops my bad). Now I can reboot to recovery and install the update.zip off my external sd card. However after I install the update.zip and reboot, I still get stuck on the acer screen (bootloader version 0.03.06-ICS (Unlock Mode) at top with acer logo in green at bottom.
Which update.zip am I suppose to be using? Currently I am trying to install one of the stock ROMS from the developer section of this forum. Am I suppose to be using a specific one?
Thanks again, I know I'm close. My tablet has been brick'd for weeks and I'm dedicated to getting it back now that I have time.

Power down the unit. Set screen lock in the up position. Hold volume down and power. When powered on keep holding the vol down button. Then toggle the screen lock to down.
That should do a factory reset.
Then put a stock rom in the root of SD Card. Volume up then power until let the tablet recover.
This worked for me.
did u install the drivers from an earlier post? Also when you power up you your tablet you need to boot into fastboot mode? You're certain you have done both of these things?

if you plug in your phone to your computer:
1. do you have LED on? as in charging.
2. it is recognized by PC?
don't worry it is not bricked. the thing is, you flashed the kernel and the phone does a reboot after that automatically.
do you have a custom recovery installed? cwm, twrp... it was one of the steps from the tutorial.
if you do, head over to the developer section, take Hasoon all in one tool. connect your phone to your pc, open the tool, at the bottom 2nd box, you should see "Reboot in Recovery". select that and press the button.
now your phone will reboot in recovery.
here, you should wipe:
cache
dalvik-cache
system
factory settings
now select to flash a rom (in twrp recovery it is called install in cwm i guess is flash a custom rom or something like that).
select the cm9 rom that is sitting on your sdcard.
after this is finished, reboot.
you must do these steps after you did the first two questions above. if your phone gets led, it is not bricked.

fastboot flash boot boot.img
Step 4. Now, my phone loads up saying . Let me tell you step by step what I did...
Step 1. Unlocked bootloader with the help of www.htcdev.com
Step 2. Boot into recovery mode. Status now say *Unlocked*
Step 3. Flashed by putting the boot.img in one folder with fastboot.exe. Ran following commands in command prompt after navigating to that particular folder:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Step 4. Now, my phone loads up saying . "This build is for htc use and blah blah" on booting screen below HTC logo... it stucks up on HTC ONE V screen. after sometime I tried restarting by connecting it to PC and Clicking on boot into recovery from HTC ONE V ALL IN ONE TOOL I got from this forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1676686)
Step 5. Boom. Its wont reboot. No response at all.

I don't know whether you really bricked your phone. What I can see here is your phone is out of battery. Plug it to a wall charger and leave it there for atleast 4 hours or the best 8 hours.
Now back to step you taken:
1. Correct
2. Correct (but that is not recovery mode, that is bootloader/hboot mode).
3. Wrong... you should flash a recovery first.
4. Correct ... now your device run out of battery
5. No battery.
So the correct way... after you fully charge your device.
1. Download the rom.zip
2. Take out the sdcard, connect PC and put the rom.zip onto sdcard, put back the sdcard to your device.
3. Download a recovery (either CWM or TWRP).
4. Press Power On (assuming your device is fully charge and not bricked).
5. It will get stuck at ""This build is for htc use and blah blah", press power button and hold it and you will see the three button blinking and your device shutdown.
6. Release the power button, hold the volume button, the device will boot to hboot. Press power once, it go to fastboot
7. connect to PC, flash the recovery. Same way like you flash boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
8. once done, press power once, it will go to hboot, select recovery
9. do a nandroid backup as you still have a stock rom as I don't see anywhere you said you already flash a ROM (or am I missing that?)
10. Select the rom.zip and install your desired rom.
11. Once complete, reboot run setup and you are done.

DUDE!
Your phone has nothing. It is not bricked. It is in perfect shape. Its just, that you need to do some steps in order to make it work. I'm sorry that no one was able to answer you but it was an easy one.
What you need to do is following:
SEE HERE FOR DOWNLOAD THE CWM RECOVERY
Steps:
download the zip file and extract (From the link above) (you will get recovery.img file)
Download and install the Android Standard Developer Kit, I placed the folder at C://
I think fastboot.exe have to be downloaded seperately because it is not available in the latest android SDK Link
Place the recovery.img where the fastboot.exe is located (bundled with the SDK)
Now open command prompt and navigate to your Android SDK folder by pressing cd
Now type:
fastboot flash recovery name_of_the_recovery.img (the name will be recovery with the extension .img)
after that just boot into bootloader and from that menu, using your up and down volume buttons, use RECOVERY.
Now assuming that you've installed only the kernel, what you need to do is, find the menu for mounting your SDCARD under the CWM recovery (it should be in advance menu or something)..
Mount the sd card and place the CM9 rom on the sdcard.
after it is finished loading your rom onto the sdcard, unmount it.
now:
Wipe everything! This include: Cache, Dalvik Cache, and most importantly System.
Now go ahead and install CM9 after and ONLY after you've wiped those. You can double wipe if you are in doubts. After you install the rom, reboot.
Now it should boot ok!
Keep me posted if you managed to do it!
I unlocked my HTC One X using the HTC software, no problems.
Installed Cyanogenmod using the wiki install. It worked, but once it was installed, no computer would recognise my phone any more. I've tried installing several drivers using the Android SDK and the guides here (Latest HTC Drivers), here (How to solve ADB : 'Device Not Found' error in Android), and here ([HOWTO] Installing HTC Drivers for adb/fastboot on Windows 8). Nothing worked.
Stupidly, I thought it wouldn't matter much and left it. But yesterday I tried updating Cyanogenmod to the latest stable 10.2.1. It caused my phone to simply show the "HTC quietly brilliant" logo and the restart constantly.
I've tried doing a restore, which didn't work. I've tried doing a factory reset, but all it does is load Clockworkmod recovery. And I can't simply "push" a rom onto the phone using cmd because no computers recognise my phone.
The phone turns on and charges just fine, but it repeatedly tries to start up and restarts. I CAN use HBOOT, Fastboot, and recovery though.
Any suggestions? Would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Thanks for your response. How can I install the recovery? I can't boot the phone and it won't register as connected on any of my computers.

you said you can use fastboot, so put the phone in hboot and enter fastboot mode, download the recoveery and flash it via fastboot using this command:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
(adapt your command to the recovery name )

Okay sweet, I managed to flash PhilZ recovery on. But when I try to mount the sd card, still nothing happens. I can flash stuff but I can't access the sd card from my pc.
I tried doing a factory reset using PhilZ but now the phone just sits on "HTC quietly brilliant" and doesn't start up, even after attempting to flash a new rom.

you have to mount the sdcard, you will find the option in "mounts and storage" menu... after you do this, wait some mins... maybe it'll take a little time, but sdcard will get mounted
have you flashed boot.img via fastboot? if you don't do that, phone won't boot even if you flash rom zip...

Thank you again for responding so quickly
I did find it and tried to mount it but it didn't work. I can wait for a while but it shouldn't take that long?
I have tried flashing a few different ROMs (boot.img) via fastboot but none of them work, still stuck on "HTC quietly brilliant".
Is there a way to force install a kernel and rom using fastboot or recovery, without mounting the sd card?

yes, it might take 3-4 minutes to mount... anyway you don't have to mount sdcard to install a rom, only to copy it on sd to flash it later.... do the following steps in that order:
1) put the rom zip in sd if you don't have it yet (skip if you do)
2) enter fastboot and flash boot.img taken from zip
2a) fastboot flash boot boot.img
2b) fastboot erase cache
3) enter the recovery and choose "wipe to install a new rom"
4) select install zip from sdcard and install it (follow instructions)
5) first boot may take up to 10 mins, so be patient...
if you still have problems with that specfic rom, try another one and check if it boots... if you choose to install ViperX 4.0.6, search in th rom thread becuse some users have issues in flashing and you need to follow a particular procedure (i mean only wipe cache in recovery and full install in aroma)

Okay, FIXED now. I managed to restore the phone using some RUU and stock firmware packages. After that, I managed to flash ClockwordMod recovery - which actually allowed me to mount the sd card, which actually worked! So then it was an easy flash of kernel and install of CyanogenMod (for now).
Thank you so much for your help ! Didn't even know I'd be able to mount from recovery until you mentioned it several posts above.
