A friend of mine told me about some hidden menu he accessed on his Galaxy S3 - decided to give this a go on my new note and voila it worked.
Open the phone keypad and dial *#0* #
You now should have in front of you a screen with a 5 X 3 grid of options.
You can test out all the sensors, screen colors, camera etc
If you get stuck in any of the screens tapping the back button a few times will get you back to the main menu. I guess this would be useful if you're having trouble with any aspect of the phone after rooting, flashing a ROM etc.
Kinda weird but when you go into the sensor test for accelerometer click on image test and theres a picture of some random dog...
Thanks for sharing

I often find myself wanting to show someone a picture or current screen display, but when I hand them my phone either touching the screen or one of the buttons or making that gesture suddenly changes the screen, or moves the picture. Is there some way to freeze the screen on purpose so it can be passed around safely?
I know about screen capture programs (Screenshot, Shootme) and the screen capture built into some ROMs Power Menu, but those don't keep the resulting scene on the screen (one needs to use a file program to find the graphic, which is clumsy and time consuming).
I agree, i always give my phone to my relatives or friends and they always press the back or home button somehow -.-!
One solution , would be to use a transparent lock screen with a very small unlock toggle ...
Lock it , hand it to them ...
Screenshot would do

This sounds just right, but is there such a lock screen available?

I have that program, and it works well, but after taking the shot one needs to recall the complex name and directory, and once found the viewing program has all the buttons active. I have a shortcut to Astro opening in the directory, but even with a half dozen thumbnails, it isn't clear sometimes which one I want to show. I don't see any option to freeze the view.

I don't have the link, but search around , there are some threads on transparent lockscreens ...
Not sure but you may be able to do it with just a transparent .png and setting that as your lockscreen background, but that is just a guess ....
There is a swype like option in the default HTC keyboard settings by enabling tracing. Can even change colour of the tracer.
The HTC note application is able to sync to evernote server.
Able to grp sms on sense ics
Please continue to add to this thread to be useful.
Thanks!
- turn off fastboot at settings/power uncheck it and reboot.
- turn off 3 fingers swipe at display
apparently these solved most of the screen glitches problem with camera and browser.
Most people may know this but I will put my part in. You can change colour of lock ring based on which scene you choose. Ands there's a pointless feature where when you touch or drag something there's a circle cursor on screen... Can be found in settings - developer options

Its not pointless. I assume its main purpose is to allow you to monitor how accurate the display is in regards to your touches (in fact I can see that my typing is slightly to the left of each button) and I know many use it to show video demos (I.e. they use it to show where they touched the screen... watch an angry birds tutorial and you'll see what I mean)

been lurking for a while and registered to add this...
As well as the taking photos while videoing, you can take (extract) photos while playing back the video. Had a dig in the manual - couldn't find this mentioned.

go to personalize and than the second entry in the list (i dont know what its called in english) there you have 6 different "scenes" and in some of them, the lock ring color(is it color or colour?) is changed
US - color
all the other countries - colour
Here is a cool feature that I found out the other day. I'm not sure if its new or not though.
If you use google voice and recieve text messages via google voice. The HTC messaging client will bring those texts in and unify all your texts in one area. If you continue the conversation it uses the google voice number in that message.
There is an app on the phone which is called in Dutch "Laat zien" which had a lot of info about features of the One X.
I guess its called something like show me in english

I found a unique feature where if you take your phone out in front of iphone users, they look at their device in despair and start crying!!!
Found this and might be of use..
Did you know you can use the icon that pops up when you click a volume key?
Quickly cycle through silent, vibrate etc. !)

Howdy, gentlemen (and gentleladies) I have quite a few questions regarding the note 2. I know my way around android, these are about the device itself. As questions are answered, I will update the OP with the solutions / answers for reference, so others might learn from my ignorance
I bought a flip cover case, not the genuine samsung case, but one off ebay. It doesnt have an indentation for the home button so it is constantly being turned on. Is there a fix, preferably without rooting, for this? Maybe using the proximity sensor?
With the same flip case, I would like to know if it is at all possible to have the devices screen automatically turn on when it is opened, and turn off when it is shut? (Think "iPad with its magnetic cover") Possibly through the use of NFC tags or proximity sensor? The proximity sensor would have obvious issues with other things interfering. SOLUTION FOUND: DOWNLOAD "SIMPLE COVER LOCK" FROM PLAY STORE.
Are there mods that allow selecting something using the S-Pen's button, while it is in the air? Maybe using it to highlight text while in the air or click the button to register an input? I do a lot of copy and pasting and a feature like this can greatly improve productivity.
Is it possible to get the S-Pen to be able to push the soft keys? I absolutely hate having to continually change my hand posture whenever I need to access the back key or open a menu. Maybe, building on my previous question, have some sort of air gesture with the S-Pen button depressed that performs the actions of the soft buttons? WORK-AROUND, NO TRUE SOLUTION YET: GESTURE < AND ^ WITH S-PEN BUTTON DEPRESSED FOR BACK AND MENU ACTIONS, RESPECTIVELY
My last question is simple. Is the LED indicator an RGB LED? Like the one on the galaxy nexus that can be changed to any color? It would be cool to have different notification colors per app, blue for facebook, green for messaging and so on. ANSWER: YES
I appreciate the help, normally I would use my Google-fu but I much prefer answers from other users.

I can somewhat answer the first question. There are apps that allow you to use the proximity sensor to turn off and on the screen. A couple that I've personally tried are Intellicover and Auto Screen on. There's also Screen Lock and Off that allows you to turn off your screen by tapping a button. These work well, but if your flip cover is constantly bumping the home button, using these apps won't do anything different as your home button will still get bumped and then the screen will constantly turn on.
the best app to use for turning on the screen automatically is "simple cover lock" its a small free app that does just what it says it was created for the note 2 and does what it needs to really good
For the menu & back button question, hold the button on your s pen & draw a < on the screen to go back & a ^ for the menu
Edit: Also, Light Flow from the play store let's you control the LED lights

Thanks, seems to work fine for a beta, although it does show my homescreen for a second after the flip cover opens before going to the lock screen, even if it was already on the lockscreen when I shut it. I've never seen that happen with any lockscreen alternative, must be a bug. also, it gets kind of annoying if I accidentally move my hand over the proximity sensor and it shuts the display off, but the note is so big that this occurs rarely. Nonetheless, thanks

Thanks a lot, I feel like I should have known this one, but I can't recall there ever being any tips on this when the TouchWiz motion and gesture guides ran when I first booted my device. Thanks!

to fix the screen turning off when you move your hand over you would need to change the "turn off screen after" time to 5 so it would take longer to turn off when you closed the cover, i dont have the lockscreen bug on my rooted note 2 running a 4.1.2 samsung rom
I see, ill do that! I dont plan on rooting anytime soon, so I guess I have to live with it.

Hello, very often when I see interesting things, I take out my phone, enter the four digit passcodes, then go to different screens to find the camera icon. Then, I finally found and waited long enough for the camera app to be active, interesting things have already been passed. What is the fastest way to launch the Camera app? Thanks.

i use an app called home2shortcut, which allows you to set the home button and the soft key presses and combination of presses to whatever you want. I have the home button set that one click brings me home, 2 clicks opens a voice dialer. home and then menu opens a app called rotation locker which brings up a small window and i can choose portrait or landscape and finally home and then back brings up camera. so no matter where i am i can always bring up camera quick. In addition do what the other guy said above and add the camera app to the lockscreen so you can slide up from it and it will open camera.

hold down the capture button for burst mode
Remove your lock; with swype lockscreen there is an option to where if you hold the lockscreen and then turn your phone to landscape it automatically unlocks the phone and opens the camera

I love you. More than you shall ever know.
my bad, misunderstood, there is also a camera shortcut on the N2 lockscreen that launches straight into the camera. and many other app lockscreens that provide similar functions; widgetlocker, active s lock screen.
On Android 4.2, you can set the camera as a lock screen widget. Wake up the screen with the power or home key, and swipe to the camera. Takes less than 5 seconds from pressing a button to taking a photo. Any photos previously taken are cannot be viewed unless the pin/password is entered, so security is maintained, even with a camera widget.
Any ROM running 4.2 will work, or you can wait a little longer until the official 4.2 build from Samsung comes out. Should be soon.
There is some app called 'quick camera' it's quite fast but it all really depends on your phone rom version and the software and hardware of your phone

I don't have any mods or ROM's or not even rooted or unlocked but since day 1 I have not had my screen rotation lock icon or cant find it AT ALL in settings on my Samsung Galaxy 6 Edge. All previous Android phones I have had there has been no problem locating this setting. It is usually just in the swipe-down from top settings menu.
Please see attached picture. I found this picture on the web. My phone does not have that icon at all and cant even find it anywhere in settings to turn it on.
My goal is to have this icon or find the setting so I can LOCK my auto-screen rotation when I want to such as when I am in the grocery store using my Google Keep to check off my grocery list. It becomes a major issue.
If my phone is just buggin out and for whatever reason doesn't have it in its OS install for whatever reason is there a third party app for screen orientation lock?
Thanks!

I wish it was that easy. That is no a screen shot of my phone. I am attaching pictures of my phone now.
OK when you have your phone on the home screen you remember how you would swipe down the top and you would get some icons look for the one that says portraits and you should see it has a little lock on it touch that button and your auto rotate should appear hopefully this helps it did on my galaxys7 lmk if it did
