I can't seem to find any threads that address my issue. I just recently used "triangle away" to reset my binary count... successful. Next I attempted to flash back to stock via ODIN and it didn't pass. Now... my phone will not boot into download or recovery mode. It will only display this message: "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again"
Does anyone know what I can do to get passed this??
If u can use the 3 finger salute.. push volume up, home and power.. Then flash this in recovery.. I had the same issue but I could get into recovery this way.. Hope this helps..

That's also part of my problem.... as soon as I put the battery in the warning pops up... not giving me a chance to boot into recovery. Thanks for the quick response by the way.
I'm doing some research for u.. I had this problem awhile back and figured out how to fix.. Give me a few..

Awesome! Thanks... Believe me I'm searching too!
I just read on another thread to plug it in on that warning screen and run Odin again.. That answer was actually posted by billard, same who created the flashable back to stock I posted earlier. Good luck bud.. This happened to me on day 2 with my note ii.. It's scary, but the developers here at xda are amazing..

Grrrrrrr! It isn't working.... I've also tried 2 stock firmwares, 3 different cables, and even went as far as uninstalling Kies....
I wish I could remember exactly what I did to fix it.. I think if u leave the battery out for a bit.. Like 10 seconds maybe u will be able to boot into recovery from a power off state.. It's been months since I've had this issue.. Sorry I can't be of more assistance.. Best of luck to u..

i have the same problem, "firmware update incountered an issue"did you get your`s fixed? if so, how? if you dont mind.
Ok so here is whats going on. There is this guy that goes to church with me that wants me to root his phone and his wifes phone so they can both use the WiFi Tether app. I tried to root them both on another computer because i did not have my laptop with me and i used this guide -->
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1726088
After i got done with Odin and the phone rebooted, i powered it down and went into CWM Recovery and the stock recovery showed up with the android man and the red triangle. No CWM whatsoever. i tried to root his wife's phone and the same thing happened and i did both of them on my laptop this time. But when i go into download mode on both of the phones it says their custom binary count is 2 and that the phone is rooted. Root Checker Basic says otherwise. They said they got these phones in December at the exact same time i got mine and i rooted mine fine with the instructions i followed in that link. does anyone know what could be the problem? i followed all the instruction carefully as well. Like i said, i got my phone at the same exact time as they did and i rooted mine no problem with the guide i used on here. Thank you for your help
Have you tried skips toolbox, pretty simple to use. Pretty much flashes what you ask it too.

After flashing the recovery in Odin are you pulling the battery while the phone is still in download mode, then booting into recovery? The S3 detests custom recoveries and you can't let it boot into its os after flashing the custom recovery or it won't stick. Also make sure both boxes in Odin are unchecked so the phone doesn't auto reboot after flashing.
Edit: I read that method you posted just now and it is very out dated, the newer s3 updates made it so the custom recoveries do not stick and the phone defaults to stock recovery, unless the battery is pulled while the phone is still in download mode, and then booted into recovery. Make sure auto reboot and f. reset time are UNCHECKED
Also, might I suggest this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2011491. You don't need to use TWRP you can still flash your cwm recovery
Make sure your friends' phones are on Sprint as well

Ok thanks you. I have heard of the toolkit but I never used it because I don't want to soft/hard brick his phone especially since its not mine and I have read about people bricking their phones that way but that probably because they didn't follow any if the instructions or the did something stupid. I will give it a try but before I do that I will do what you told me to do and uncheck f. Reset and auto boot and see if that works. Thanks a lot man and I will get back to you and tell you if it worked or not

Yeah your mistake was allowing the phone to reboot after the odin flash. Make sure you remove the check mark from the reboot option in odin.

Yes. In step 12 on the post you linked, the "power down" needs to be done by pulling the battery. The thread you posted is good, but I prefer the method in this post, as it both explains what's going on and it the formatting is more clear.
Hope you get it rooted for your friend!
Thanks for the tip
...about pulling the battery out and not letting Odin reboot for you. I found that *after* I already did it and now my wifi won't turn on.

Alright thanks everyone for your help! i will tell you if it works. i just unrooted my phone and returned to stock and im going to use the other guide you guys told me to use on my phone first just to make sure nothing bad happens like a hard brick. I would rather brick my phone than someone elses phone any day:fingers-crossed:
will any of these guides root 4.1.2? thats what is keeping their phone from rooting i just found out because i just got my replacement SIII from Sprint and it has android 4.1.1 and i rooted it fine with the guide i used on theirs so it has to be the 4.1.2 update

You have to pull the battery excuse you need the phone to shut off so that you can boot into recovery.

If you are rooted with stock rom and recovery and its not working which is my situation all you have to do is install twrp recovery. I used goomanager from market and installed from that. Then I downloaded the all in one zip from this link:

Then I ran twrp and flashed the all in one .zip file and it worked like a charm.
HELP!! I think i bricked my AT&T Canadian Note 2 with 16gb rooted with stock rom and stock kernel
SO i was playing dead trigger and wanted to gave tegra 3 optimizations so i downloaded Chainfire 3D from the play store and i installed the drivers and it rebooted my note 2, but it's stuck at the Galaxy Note 2 logo!! I can still use vol up+home+power and vol down+home+power, i tried factory reset in CWM, still stuck, tried flashing new rom (CM, AOKP) still stuck, so now i just want my phone back up and running again. Anyone know how to fix it problem? I don't need any apps or data back or root back, just back up and running again. Oh and charging still shows the battery picture, and i can still turn off my phone.

I tried using CWM recovery but it says error
Why do so many people on xda have such a hard time understanding what "bricked" means.
If you can easily fix it, then it isn't "bricked"
It's bricked if it has to go for jtag
If you read the description for chainfire 3d, it distinctly says "not compatible with ICS/Jellybean" so theres your problem why u have troubles... a factory reset might not be the fix. ODIN may be the only way.

Yeah it's because they can't get the phone to come back on. So that's why they think it's bricked. Plus it's the only word they know and heard of. There's also soft brick, stuck in a loop, etc. But most of the time when the phone stops working correctly, most thinks it's bricked! Lol

For me, even "soft brick" is a stupid term..
A phone is either bricked or not bricked. If it is bricked, there is no fixing it imo (other than jtag)
Odin will fix this, this happened to my S2 while I'm on JB. Just download the latest odin, and the stock rom of your Note 2, probably you can find the rom on sammobile, google will help you out, PM me if you need any assistance. Just relax, it's not broken.

Ok so I need 4.1.2 of Jellybean, I still don't know what Odin is though
Anyways, i tried factory reset too and it seems like nothing happened
Hey guys,
It's been a while.. so long I forgot my actual account password and no longer have access to the email address I used to create it. I've been on iOS for the last... 4-5 years now.
Anyway, I'm finally back now, got a Galaxy Note 3, and I've rooted it, and upgraded to 4.4.2 KitKat. I've tried to install CWM, and Odin says it passed (I've done this like 6 times now, trying different fixes I've found online, and none worked). Every time I try to boot into recovery, I get the following at the top of the screen:
1. RECOVERY BOOTING
2. RECOVERY IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING
3. Set Warranty Bit: recovery
After this, the phone reboots, and takes me to the OS, which is different than most people, apparently it won't let them even boot so I suppose I'm lucky.
But if I didn't want a custom Rom on my Note, I wouldn't be here, someone please help.
that's weird, usually that blue 'recovery booting' means you are gonna get there.
a few things just for clarification: are you letting go of all the buttons as soon as you see that screen? and you do have the Tmo Note 3, yeah?
i hope you figure this out... it's gotta be something simple, i would think..

Yeah, tried both Odin v1.85 and v3.09 as administrator.
have you tried TWRP? that's what i'm using, version 2.7.0.0. perhaps you have an outdated version of CWM? you can grab a TWRP Odin file here if you wanna try: http://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/hltetmo

I thought TOP didn't work on KitKat? I had it initially but it threw the same error so I thought it was the problem and switched to CWM.
Also. After a while these word captchas are horrible. I keep trying to answer them and it refuses to work. I didn't remember xda having them before.
Verify that you gave it the CWM for 4.4.x, not the CWM for 4.3. If it is the wrong version just give it the correct one.
