Hello, guys!
I managed to mod an application to have a transparent background and it worked just fine, so I decided to share it with you.
This is the new News and Weather Widget from Google that works on Froyo and above on every ROM and every device. It has some new features such as displaying more information on the weather by clicking on the weather icon within the app (as you can see in the first picture) and a cool cerulean highlight effect when pressing on the widget.
Since 1.3.11 from Jelly Bean, it was updated to improve freshness and power consumption.
*UPDATE*
Updated GenieWidget to 1.3.11 from Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Now you can choose between 2 glow colors when pressing on the widget on the home screen: ORIGINAL BLUE or MIUI ORANGE!
Thanks to c3k for providing the Jelly Bean apk and to YOU FOR DOWNLOADING IT MORE THAN 10000 TIMES! I started sharing it just for fun, how could I've ever expected it? Thanks! :fingers-crossed:
*INSTRUCTIONS*
Uninstall any previous version, if any (if it's a system apk, remove it using Root Explorer or any equivalent apk);
Download the version you desire (BLUE glow or MIUI glow);
Push it to /system/app with adb, or just copy it to your sdcard and install it as a regular apk;
Enjoy!
*TROUBLESHOOTING*
Having troubles or force closes? Please, remember that this is just a mod, I'm not the author of the original apk, so make sure your problems are coming from my mods *only* before asking! If you can't see anything wrong with an original GenieWidget version, please uninstall GenieWidget, reboot to recovery, clear caches, reboot and try installing it again.
*CHANGELOG*
11-15-2011: Initial mod from ICS 4.0.0;
02-07-2012: Updated mod to 1.3.04, from ICS 4.0.3 which now includes ICS themed tabs and minor graphical changes overall. It also supports HD resolutions (e.g. Galaxy Nexus);
07-23-2012: Updated to 1.3.11 from JB 4.1; added MIUI variant; removed ICS versions.
06-15-2016: Discontinuing project since Google stopped supporting GenieWidget.

Did you have a previous GenieWidget? Uninstall it and install it again, it should work!
Works great for me! He he, Thanks.

I made this, but result isn't change. Widget works, and app when starts - crash.
UPD: This isn't bug of this app, this is bug of cyanogemod. Because the same error in some another app, that connect to internet (Beautifull Widget - when search theme, etc)
thanks! looks great.
Hi im running onecosmic's port of ics on my i9000.
I couldnt find any options to set my widgets to transparent.
So im wondering if its ok for me to install this apk, assuming this apk was meant for froyo and gingerbread.
Edit:
Ive mistaken this for an ability to make all the widgets in ics to go transparent.
Is there a way to do this??

Never mind. Im using go launchrr with transparent widgets.

me too! thanks, though!
. 1 thing tho. This go launcher ex is a bit slower than regular ics launcher, zeam and adw launcher.
It would be awesome if i could edit the ics launcher to have all transparent widgets.

I'm really sorry, but there is no easy way. Happy news is you can get many transparent apps/widgets mods in this thread.
Sorry, I saw this too late!

That would simplify everyone's life, but backgrounds are built-in in the apks and need to be edited and 9patched, or decompiled, edited, recompiled and signed again. That's no job for a launcher, unfortunately.
*sigh*
But thanks for the link and comments

If that's a system apk, you can't just uninstall it. You have to remove it manually: use Root Explorer or any equivalent app and make sure /system is set as R/W. You'll find that in /system/app.
It is a system App.
Sounds like I need to root first, install root explorer, find and remove it and then install the transparent APK?

Look in the i9000 forum for a modified tw launcher. Or if you like themes and are rooted, install the heinz 57 theme.

You don't install it. You push it to system/app directory with root explorer. Then reboot and then you will have that launcher as an option unless you already set one as a default. Then go into that launcher in manage applications and clear defaults.
My choices of launcher :
-ADWLauncher EX
-Zeam Launcher
-LauncherPro Plus
Anybody knows how to make any of these as default one instead of TouchWiz? I mean that to uninstall the TouchWiz and replace it with the above launchers, totally.

Download Home Switcher from the Market, start it and set whatever launcher you want as default (I suggest Zeam because it's extremely lightweight).
Download Titanium Backup from the Market (requires root access), start it and uninstall TwLauncher.apk
each launcher will ''ask'' if it can be the default ...

When you press home button a dialog box does appear and ask you which you want.
Try out Nemus Launcher, its the fastest among others.

See, only thing you have to make sure is, when you delete TWlauncher, you have to have atleast one Launcher installed. Otherwise your phone might end in a bootloop or other problems occure.
You don't need necessarily a HomeSwitcher. Just go to Settings->Application->Manage Applications->All->select your current default launcher->clear defaults
Now if you hit the Home-Button it will ask you to choose the default launcher for the home-button. It will ask you once again if you restart which launcher to choose.

Alright thanks man!
Btw, to make any launcher my default launcher, i DO NOT have to put the .apk of the specific launcher into /system/app and change the permissions etc, right?

Hi..if u want a hardcore way, using a root explorer, just replace that touchwiz.apk(delete touchwiz) at /system/app..u can find ur user app in /data/app..in there,u will find ur installed launcher from market..before that, mount system to read/write instead of read/only..and after that reboot..
Or u also can do this.before u want to flash a particular rom..unzip the rom,do what I say with above way..re-zip and flash.
With This way,it give u more experience about how ur system works and lets u know more..and it teaching u...but don't be too optimistic for what u doing...it can mess up ur device if u don't know what are u doing..always be aware..
Its just my suggestions...
I'm not guarantee ur phone will not crash..follow the-e and irishpankke advice If u want a safe-mode way

my suggestion is you can download any home launcher switcher/manager app from the Market, that way, it will be easy for you to switch to a different launcher if you grew tired of you default one.
first time you install a new launcher and you pressed the home button, it will ask you what default launcher you prefer.

So what is more reliable and safest? Method 1 or Method 2 eh?
I have tried Method 1 actually and screen blanks after rebooting except there is time, battery and signal level.

Can I just ask what you are trying to achieve here??
Is it just the Launcher?
or is it the TW integration in the ROM, as I don't think we have a ROM yet yet which entirely strips out the TW integration.......perhaps you are working on one??
If it is just the Launcher, you can just make whatever launcher you require default, by any of the methods explained above, my manual method, or the home launcher switcher.....
but TW Launcher is not stripped out here, you could freeze it with TB or Gemini.
I just think it is safer to wait for CM 7, which will not have any trace of TW!!!
Just a quote from Stack exchange:
http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...ove-touchwiz-and-revert-to-a-stock-ui-android
It's impossible to root out TouchWiz without modifying the Samsung source code to remove and replace it; it's heavily embedded in the OS. This would be a massive effort and I don't believe anyone's done it. The only alternative is a ROM built from stock in the first place, such as Cyanogen as Ryan mentioned.

I just wanna achieve the launcher actually. Hehe. I just don't like the TouchWiz, that's it. So i thought anyone knows how to remove it totally and integrate other launchers like Zeam, LauncherPro and more. But i think i just need to do the easiest way which is when i press home button, i'll set it as default and done. Thanks anyways! Sorry for my continuous questions, i just need confirmations.
Guys, i have done it. I used LauncherPro before. I went to 'manage applications' and selected LauncherPro and clicked 'clear defaults. Then i installed Launcher 7 and pressed 'set as default'. Then i uninstalled LauncherPro and reboot my phone. Voila! My launcher is now and ever the Launcher 7. Thanks guys for the superb tips with the details! Good day!

Hey guys!
I just flashed CyanogenMod 7 on my Ace, but I'm missing some stock Samsung apps, like recorder and notes. Can someone point me where I can get them, or how can I extract them from an Odin-compatible files? (I have them here, just in case)
Thanks!
First of all u should have posted this in the general section [ I think ]..a moderator will move this thread to general section soon....
Coming to ur question ..its not possible to install Samsung apps (the app store) or any other app downloaded from it..I think its bcoz of the framework ...cm7 has a diff framework ...u can find some replacements for stock Samsung apps in the Android market aka Google Play store...cheers

Yeah, just copying and installing the apks don't work. It doesn't even install. Gives me an nice "App not installed" message.
Anyway, all that I most miss is the Notes app. I've searched for some others in the Store, but none were as minimalistic as the stock app was. Can someone point me to some app that will be as closest as possible to the stock app?
And, one more thing, no way that I'll go back to the stock rom, CM7 is WAY better!
Did you try do put into /system/app? Also, I think you need the tw framework.

Installed using Android Commander as System App, but didn't worked. And, sorry for the noob question, but, wth is tw framework?
It's the touchwiz's framework, needed by some stock apps.
Oh yeah, now I get it - tw and touchwizz.
How do I "install" the tw framework?
You need to push it from /system/framework and put on your CM7 and set the permissions.
It will not mess with CM framework? And what permissions do I need to set?

Yes you need a root even to use titanium backup app.
iCS will not allow you to resize widgets unless they are on system launcher.
Open titanium backup ; on backup and restore find tribuchet and long press it to open option dialouge box and then press on make it system app.
You can do from root explorer also but idk how to do that .

I'll be more than happy just by having the Trebuchet launcher along with the stock ICS battery icon... Btw what trebuchet version did you used is there a specific one.
I'd also be curious in how to replace Touchwiz with Trebuchet. I looked in Titanium Backup and was able to find TwLauncher 4.0.3-TLLE4 but I'm unsure as to where to download Trebuchet from. Can anyone help out?

yes . Dont remove touch wiz all samsung roms are based on that , if you remove it you might get system problems . You can keep both and use trebuchet as default. I am using version 0.1

DL the CM9 ROM,extract it.
Go to system/app,the find trebuchet and install it.However, you still will end up rebooting if trying to add a widget. For me,golauncher is working well with stock, and widgets.
I also installed the desk clock, mms apk,the launcher from the cm9.
As well as gallery2.just simple as installing apk's.
