[ROOT][TUTORIAL] Easy Root & ADB Driver

Due to concerns about the security of a previously shared program, I've pulled the link and info. Please use the following that was shared out from jcase (for some reason it won't let me mention).
If you need to root your stock ROM, please use the method that was posted by in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2539930

Install the app that's attached (also from jcase's thread).
Run the apk, then wait a minute.
Go to the Play Store and download SuperSU.
Go into SuperSU and make sure you have root permissions. Test an app or two.
Remove the app from your phone when you get a chance.
Use the adb command "adb uninstall com.qualcomm.privinit" without the quotes.
You can use also remove it manually a few ways without adb.

You can also flash a ROM (even stock ROM) with TWRP and it will ask you if you want to root it. You can select to root with it and then you'll be fine without any need for installation yourself. When I used that method on my last install, I had to reboot my phone to get root to show up. It told me that I wasn't rooted on first boot. Just a simple reboot fixed the problem.

If you haven't installed ADB drivers for your N1, you can find them here:

Download, extract the folder, and then point your drivers to the android_winusb.inf. Then you should be setup for ADB.
** I will update this as needed. Please let me know if I forgot/missed anything, or if you have anything to add. This requires very little knowledge of Android, and you don't even need the Android SDK installed.

Feel free to use other methods if you don't trust this one. I wouldn't share it if it was unsafe.
Also, with a custom recovery you could just flash a different ROM or SuperSU directly.

it just seems like kingoroot too much, main suspicion

jcase posted an apk that provides root without needing a computer that is probably much safer than this. The stock recovery provides a rooted shell out of the box. It would be easy to use that to install SuperSU or something. You can also flash & boot TWRP then hit reboot system and let TWRP install SuperSU & root your device. No need for installing a somewhat suspect root application like this.

I agree, and it seems to much like kingoroot

I've updated the OP and pulled the information about the suspicious app. I personally think that it's fine, but if there is suspicion, I would rather be safe and remove it.
I've used the information the @jcase posted instead. The adb drivers are still there though. :good:

I should have backed up the stock recovery image, I didn't. Anyone happen to have it?

I do have the stock recovery image, and I'm also about to post a how-to for installing CM on TWRP. :good:

Make sure the SuperSU file is already on your phone.
Flash TWRP Recovery through Fastboot (vol up + power) with
Code:
fastboot flash recovery your_recovery_filename.img
after it flashes reboot
Code:
fastboot reboot
from there turn off your phone and boot into recovery (vol down + power)
Navigate to where you put the SuperSU.zip file and flash it. Once you do that. Wipe Dalvik Cache and Cache before you reboot the phone into the OS.
After it loads up go to the SuperSU app. Locate the setting where it preserves CM root and uncheck that.
You should have root access now.
Oppown doesn't work on CM.

I am rooted OK.. On omnirom. But when i attach my phone my computer cannot see the file system.. Is there a better adb driver somewhere? Thanks giuliano rigon

The computer should only show the storage (onboard sdcard) part, or do you mean your adb isn't working properly?
Can you please explain what is showing what, and what you want to see?

I want to see files and copy them to my PC using the inner memory ad external storage.. I thought that adb might nave some problems.. I can flash the phone so communication is working.. Bit i do not see the fila system of the phone.. Help..

Are you able to see the sdcard portion? That should be all that you can see when you mount the phone to your PC.

So how do i access files on my phone.. I am copying them with dropbox bit it is getting stale

[Q] 5.0.1 Rooted to 5.0.2 Without Data Loss

For some reason I'm just not able to Google this answer or find it here on XDA.
I'm on 5.0.1 (LRX22C) and want to go to 5.0.2 (LRX22G). I have downloaded an OTA update capture and tried to adb sideload it.
It failed. After a sec I thought, "duh. I'm rooted with franco kernel installed." I then did the following:
* Used SuperSU to unroot
* Booted to bootloader
* Flashed stock recovery and kernel
* Rebooted to recovery
* Attempted adb sideload again
This still gave a failure message.
The only other post I've seen where anyone is attempting the same suggests to use Nexus Root Tookit. I'm running Xubuntu. I've loaded it through wine but all the files it downloads are failing hash checks (though the app).
Can anyone post how to go from rooted 5.0.1 to 5.0.2 (LRX22G from LRX22C) without loosing user land data? I'd really do not want to flash the recovery image.
Notes: When trying to sideload with latest CWM recovery the script says that I'm on 4.0.4 (I think) and with TWRP it says I'm on 4.3. With stock recovery it gives me an error about the recovery script (7) or something similar.

Make sure you have downloaded the proper OTA for Nexus 7(2013).
Hashcheck fails in Nexus Root Toolkit is common.After Hashfails,there will be a dialog box which contains the steps to do it manually with the Link to the files.Download it & follow the instruction.

I'm having the exact same problem. I'm attaching what's appearing on TWRP.

All you need to do is flash the boot and system.img
Then flash su from twrp. It's that easy. No data loss.

I just used wugfresh's toolbox to do it. A piece of cake. I enjoyed a cup of coffee while I watched being updated.

You can also use TWRP and dirty flash the stock, rooted rom by Scrolser found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex.../rom-factory-stock-rooted-rom-lrx22g-t3004110 . Simple and fast with no data loss.

So I can just ”fastboot flash system system.img" from the 5.0.2 image and not loose data?
That seems like it would be the easiest. I prefer the adb/fastboot commands as NRT hides what it is doing and I like to know what's going on when I "do something" liken push a button.

^Yes. It's a good idea to flash boot as well just to get in the habit of it, it didn't change this time I don't think but I could later. Only flash the bootloader if it's a new version no need otherwise.
I simply ran:
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot format cache
Done, flash su through twrp to get root back.
You probably don't need to format cache but theres no reason not to and it could save you some trouble.

NRT opens a terminal window (a real-time log) and tells you exactly what it's doing while it does its work.

All you need to do is flash the boot and system.img
Then flash su from twrp. It's that easy. No data loss.

I have a n7 2013 I have already rooted and installed twrp and SuperSU. I'm currently running 4.4.2 and to update to 5.02. Currently I'm getting the ota update msg for 4.4.3 which I've continued to ignore. With google not messaging me to update to 5.02 makes me think it's required to go to 4.4.3,4.4.4,5,5.02 is that correct? Or can one jump directly to 5.02? I want to keep root and twrp and my existing data I see mentioning of restoring stock recovery first. Why would one do that? What's the point of installing a custom recovery in the first place?
Long time ago I read that ota will work when rooted, but you'll lose root which then can be restored with twrp without losing data. Is that no longer true? Or is it only true of KitKat but not lollipop?

How do I backup my stock recovery?

I want to be able to flash my stock recovery when I no longer want TWRP or CWM. How would I go about doing this?

This is not possible to backup your stock recovery. When you need that you can download it simply (base on your phone's build number). Also you can extract stock recovery frome your ota zip update(the file with img format inside of firmware folder)

This has to be done before flashing custom recovery. Unlock bootloader, then fastboot boot recovery.img
With "recovery.img" being a TWRP file located in your fasboot folder. This will boot into TWRP without actually flashing it. From there, you can pick recovery in the backup options, to backup stock recovery.
But yes, I agree that stock recovery images are pretty easy to obtain from these forums, or extracting from a OTA or ROM.zip.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but I'm not seeing an option to backup the Recovery in TWRP 2.8.7.0... Just Boot, Cache, System, Data and Android Secure are available (see attached screenshot). I remote booted TWRP from my laptop, as I did when I rooted Marshmallow around a fortnight ago, in order to keep the stock recovery intact.
It would certainly be useful to be able to backup the stock recovery via TWRP... I just haven't found a way of accomplishing it .

But a possible option to backup the stock recovery would be to use the Flashify app...
Remote boot TWRP from your PC, acquire root, and then run Flashify...

This app uses <dd=if/of> commands to backup and potentially restore the boot and/or recovery images.
Although it does require root to work.
I've used Flashify on my Nexus 7 and Nexus 9 in the past, but never on my M8, except to backup... never to restore, so I cannot personally vouch for it's safety on the M8.

And would it be safe to do so?
I know that TWRP uses <dd=if/of> commands, having looked through TWRPs logs... but I'm not quite sure how fastboot works when it comes to flashing stuff, and I'm very wary about doing it myself or recommending it for others.
Normally, you'd just use the Flashify app to restore any recovery/boot.img backups you've previously made...
But Flashify requires root to work, and with an unrooted system, this is isn't viable. So could one use fastboot in the normal way to flash such a previously made backup of the stock recovery?

I would recommend anybody reading this seeking to root their Marshmallow M8 to just remote boot TWRP from their PC with fastboot boot twrp.img (ie., don't actually flash it), perform an unrooted Nandroid backup first...
...and then flash Chainfire in the usual way.
This leaves the stock recovery intact, which will be required for future OTAs.
And there still might be some...
My Nexus 9 receives monthly security patches from Google (probably after the StageFright debacle of last year), and it may well be that the M8 will also continue to receive security patches, despite it being nearly two years old.
So you need to be ready... with an unrooted/untouched Nandroid of your own creation and the stock recovery.
I know that Chainfires systemless root method is supposed to address this issue, but if you're going to mess with system, you should have a Nandroid backup anyway...
...just in case.

Requirements:
-Unlocked Bootloader (Moto G5 Plus with offers from Amazon won't have unlockable bootloaders but if you buy the standard model from them then you'll be fine)
-Vanche's Modified TWRP from here (http://cloud.vache-android.com/Moto/potter/TWRP/twrp-3.1.0-0-potter.img)
- Vanche's Modified Boot Kernel from here (http://cloud.vache-android.com/Moto/potter/root/potter_boot_test7.img)
- Vanche's Wifi Patch because wifi will stop working after flashing the modified boot kernel (http://cloud.vache-android.com/Moto/potter/root/wlan_custom.zip)
- Chainfires Root http://download.chainfire.eu/1021/SuperSU/SR3-SuperSU-v2.79-SR3-20170114223742.zip
--- If you already have TWRP on your phone, the one by Santosh, you must flash the one made by Vanche or it wont work and you can just download the recovery image and flash it via twrp by toggling the flash zip button on the twrp recovery install menu.
1.. Download all the three files then boot your phone into bootloader mode by holding Volume Down + Power
2. Connect your phone to your PC and then open the adb terminal wherever adb is located open command prompt at that folder
3. Place the recovery image and boot image where the adb terminal folder is located
4. Fastboot flash recovery first and then boot into recovery at least once then reboot into bootloader fastboot flash boot the modified boot image.
5. Boot into the system (May take a while for the first time after flashing the boot image).
6. Place the wlan_custom.zip into your phones internal storage
7. Boot back into recovery and then flash the zip this time
8. Then download and flash the SR3 Super Su from above using recovery and you should have root!!
Safety net may break so if you wanna use Snapchat or any other apps that use safety net make sure you login first then root. You can't logout or else you'll have to unroot and log back in.

It shouldnt, But if you cant boot then you need to flash the no-verity crypt zip once

Did you correctly flash vanche TWRP and boot image? Because you're supposed to do that first and then flash the wifi zip..

The phone will wipe as soon as you unlock the bootloader so best to back up first.

Sorry but what's the differences beetwen this method and magisk?

Only the 'Prime Exclusive - With Offers and Ads' Amazon models don't have an unlockable bootloader, while the 'Standard Version' models can definitely be unlocked. You probably should clarify that or some will think that they can't buy from Amazon and unlock/root the phone.

The "Magisk method" didn't give me privileges on /system, there are some things I can do and others do not, this method gave me full root access like in the other MotoG devices? And the safetynet check fails too?

I don't know why but you have to flash WLAN in order to get it to work

Twrp backup can't worked
I successfully rooted my moto g5 plus mobile. And TWRP INSTALL Latest supersu via. But sdcard card backup can't worked. Why can't work sdcard in twrp? I think this twrp unofficial so not supported sdcard process. Please help me. How to work sdcard backup twrp. I try mount sdcard. But can't mount sdcard. Totally I'm very tired. Please help me.

Do you think that will be fixed soon with a newer version of SuperSU, or some "root hider" apps? The idea of running a phone without root is absurd/offensive/rediculous IMO, but I don't want to be denied the ability to run certain apps because the developers have the rediculous idea that running without root should be "OK" to ordinary users? This idea is extremely offensive to me!!!

Guys, I wonder why the OP is "Account currently disabled"? I hate running without root, but, it seems a bit early and not all the problems have been worked out yet, such as TWRP not accessing SDCARD yet - I think I was a little premature buying my Moto G5 Plus as we don't really have "stable" release custom ROMs or fully functioniong TWRP and to even root we have to rely on some not well known sources for kluged files to make SU work?

Install Magisk without PC and root

Hello everyone,
Since I'm facing difficulties connecting my Nexus 5X to my PC (believe me, I have tried nearly everything), I was wondering if it is possible to flash Magisk to my phone without the use of a PC. The bootloader is still unlocked because i've rooted my phone previously (when it still could connect to my PC). All the possibilities I ran into require either root or a PC.
I hope one of you guys knows a way how to handle this without losing all my data.

To install magisk you need a custom recovery. And to install a custom recovery you need a pc.

You're right. You can flash a boot image with fastboot. Is there a boot image that has magisk as party of it?

Well, I have installed Magisk Manager, and it gives me the option to patch a boot image-file. When I choose this option it askes me to select te original boot image-dump (.img or .img.tar). Since I'm no expert and I don't know where to find this and what this does, I'm afraid of losing my data or bricking my phone.

You would use the boot.img from the factory image that your rom is based on. Find your device below and download the 1 GB zip. Inside this zip is another zip you'll need to open to find the boot image (boot.img). Flashing boot images doesn't wipe internal storage, but it does remove root if you had it installed.

There's not really a collection of stock boot images besides what's included in the factory image.

There's not really a collection of stock boot images besides what's included in the factory image.

My pixel 2 xl non rooted with unlocked bootloader.
So, Is it possible to flash latest OTA update directly through the phone via stock recovery?
As you aware that with the known and common pixel 2 xl issue which you can't get it connected to PC.
I'm stuck on October update and I'd be glad if someone could help me out on this matter.

Hi I'm new to rooting. I have a ZTE n9137 tempo x looking to root .I can't get this done.no recovery no boot.img no custom recovery none what so ever .the olny I keep reading is that I have to have a PC I don't like I said I'm new to root but I'm trying anything to get this done I unlocked the oem but I don't thing that it is enabled.?.?and I don't think that the phone can do this ota so now what ?? If I'm wrong plzz tell me where at I'm wrong and how to gain root thanks for all the help

hi everybody i wanted to root a samsung a3 2018(idk what version it is because it is still my grandma's phone) and as i know there isn't any twrp version for that phone
